Voodoo sound has to be added to the kernel. So unless we see a rom update that supports voodoo sound, it isn't coming.

The paid version (Voodoo Control Plus) supports stock kernels actually

I have the beta he emailed me.. works flawlessly. Still waiting on am email back for a release time.

Paid version can inject a module. Free version requires kernel support.
We're fairly close to kernel support I think. bedwa reimplemented the Froyo patches but there's some stuff in the commits that just looks a little... funky to LinuxBozo and I. (Not a problem Bedwa created, but actually indications that Voodoo Sound may not have been fully working in Froyo either...)
I'm testing it now, unfortunately I used that feature so rarely that other than the app indicating it's presence I don't know how well it's actually working.

Voodoo sound was only partially working on our original froyo port.... can't remember who did it, but compare to the Voodoo sound code in my froyo kernel source. Supercurio did the port himself and that one was fully working I think.

I'm 90% certain bedwa's commits were based on your v9 commit and bozo's v10 update commit.
And the "funkiness" LinuxBozo pointed out to me does exist in your tree - see https://github.com/gtg465x/linux_sgh-i997-hacked/blob/master/sound/soc/codecs/wm8994_voodoo.h - note that the #if defined stuff that causes NEXUS_S to get defined won't catch anything on our device - we're not sure if this is problematic or not.
I just tested it and it seems to be working, other than the "hack volume keys to change analog gain" thing seems a little funky, but this would be a userspace thing anyway.
At this point it seems as good as it was on the Froyo Defuse kernels which were based off of yours, so I've pushed it as a branch to the reference repo.

They volume keys hack seems a bit glitchy like you said. Other than that, I haven't had any issues. The beta version I got was from supercurio and seems to work fairly well... again I haven't written any sort of coding in years so I don't know about the details under the hood

[Q] Voodoo Stock Kernel

Hello all
I have tried netarchys new kernels, all versions and I appear to be one of the poor unfortunates who's NS will just not be rushed (overclocked).
I had netarchys 1.1 running for a bit, before the usual freezes and reboots and the sound quality was awesome.
Is there a stock rom for the Nexus S with the voodoo tweaks?

Supercurio tweeted something about it yesterday or the day before, but I believe it was about one with his new sound improvements.
You're not looking for the original kind of voodoo fixes (aka lag-fix) are you? There is zero lag on this phone, and the filesystem is already ext4 and yaffs2...no RFS (the original reason for voodoo) on this baby.

Voodoo sound driver
Currently there is no stock Kernel with Voodoo sound. Morfic from Team Whiskey says he's working on adding Voodoo sound to some of his Trinity kernels so you might want to keep your eye on that thread. I believe he currently has an UV1ghz with Voodoo but it's for CM. What rom are you running? You may also want to try Netarchy Nexus - 1.2.1 instead. My phone didn't like 1.1 very much either but seems to work great on 1.2.1.

Ah, there it is. Voodoo's too big an umbrella now...too many things going on with it and confusion over what is and isn't voodoo any more unless people say like "voodoo sound".
I skimmed over that netarchy post, but missed the sound tweaks part. I'm not interested in overclocking this phone, it's fast enough without the risks/issues, but the voodoo sound will be exciting if it's as good as supercurio says it is. I should probably try one of the i9000 kernels with it on my i9000.

I get better battery life out of the LorDmod UE kernel but the Tiamat kernel is much more responsive so that leads me to believe it's related to the CPU governor. I'm using the PUV script/PUV voltages with both and while LorDmod's kernel gets better battery life, I'm still over 60% with Tiamat at the end of the day.
I'm still torn between the two and think I'll use Tiamat for a few more days to get a better feel for it; it's definitely left a good first impression.

SBC and the concept behind in is particular to the way the evo/inc battery driver works. Other devices use a different driver so it does not port. Really, you're better off for having a driver that doesn't 'need' it.

Lord Clockan incorporated SBC support in to his UE kernel for a while and basically found that it doesn't work on the Desire HD/Inspire. He's using a different "overcharge" feature now but I'll be damned if I can remember the name off the top of my head.
With MIUI and perfect match!!!
I installed in my inspire with 1.7.22 and the battery drain stop, i did remove setcpu too. Happy and pleased!!! Keep the good work!!!
Using Tiamat 1.0.3 with CM7 nightly #134, runs like butter at 1113mhz, battery life is better as well. Great work!
Giving this a try with Miui 1.7.22, using "No-frills";
Max; 1.574
Min; 192
Gov; smartass
I/O; sio
max clock 2.035?

My Inspire would freeze on anything over 1305mhz, I found 1113mhz to be the most smooth and stable for me. Very well could be an issue with your ROM, the OP or one of the devs on the MIUI site may have a more insight.

Well time for an update. I found out that the camera does not work with gingerbeast. I tried to reflash to make sure it was the kern and it was.
Figured I'd chime in after testing with 1.04 for a while. Battery life is pretty much the same for me with Tiamat and LordMoDUE, just about everything else is very close as well. I give the clear edge in overall snappiness to Tiamat, with even better performance after screen unlock - pretty much no noticeable delay with smartass governor. I'll definitely recommend this kernel to anyone reading.

[KERNEL] Cyanogenmod Skyrocket Kernel 0.43pre v4

Hi!
This is a CM7 kernel built for skyrocket, based on my 0.43pre kernel, orientation etc. should be hunky-dory under CM7 now, and overclocking should be good
Give 'er a shot if you use CM7!
AT&T CM7 v4
Rogers CM7 v4
v4 - fixed usb storage mounting, optimizations, added Android USB Accessory support to match CM7 ROM, adjusted init scripts to allow 192MHz
Further notes re: overclocking etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20438625&postcount=28
Please leave any CM7-specific feedback here, anything that applies to the general kernel stuff in my other thread if you would
BTW, if you found BLN (Backlight Notification) was not activating for enough notifications with ROMs using touchwiz framework, this one should activate BLN for all notifications, making it much nicer and useful!
Muchos thanks to XAviierG for kicking my butt on IRC to get this out the door after much procrastination

Does ICS youtube/widget work with these cyanogenmod builds? I read theres some framework from icecream sandwich in them. Does this kernel fix call audio without gps on issue?
Still tracking NFC problem, it is on my to-do, took it out for a jaunt and bluetooth/wifi/cell data/rotation/etc. are working great - did seem to get a little hotter than TPC v3 ROM when overclocked though, possibly due to the OS using more GPU resources?
I have not run CM7 ROM at all before a few hours ago, so am not familiar with the call-audio-gps-bug. But I just turned GPS off and called my voicemail a bunch, seems fine!
Did you guys flash the cyanogenmod build in this forum or is the Tmobile version updated more than the build here? Thats my last question!! Thanks alot for the progress here. I miss all the development in the Captivate forum but I know we'll get there soon.

A warning about the default voltages for OC freqs:
Some people have told me that the voltages I have set for the OC frequencies are too high.
It should be noted that I agree, they are too high, they are above manufacturer spec for our CPUs!
But, they seem to be in widespread use in most other galaxy s (gen one) devices (I can supply reference links if desired).
Those OC freqs are not enabled by default, and that is for a reason.
Since you must use an app to enable those OC freqs, it is then your responsibility to adjust the voltages to fit your phone / needs!
Most apps that support enabling and disabling frequencies (VoltageControll/SetCPU) also allow adjustment of the voltage, use it.
While I have tested the OC freqs and they seem stable, I do not personally use the OC freqs on my daily use phone!
You have been warned.

It's in there, just forgot to include it in the featurelist...
Also a note... sio and ondemand are the defaults.

I did a quick test, and the initramfs must be too different cuz it was a non-booting kind of situation...
I figure if there is a demand I can whip up a miui build...

There will be demand as soon as the next miui gb build drops which I heard is in the works.

When it drops, I'll snag it's initramfs and whip up a build for it..

Proton kernal q&a

So is this new kernal a true JB kernal or is it a modified GB kernal like ICS? Also if is a true JB kernal is this replacing the Aries kernal or is is still in development, thanks and flame away

I'm pretty sure its a modified GB kernel. Aries would still be better, it would offer better battery life and would probably be a more stable kernel. I think all that's left now is the sleep of death issue.
I don't know if the Aries kernel is still in development, team acid said that they will give eriks JB kernel "some love"

My reading of the TA attention is that they'll try to get Proton closer to the other Herring kernels' levels... as in, wifi works, 4G doesn't reboot, etc. Not that they're looking at it as the replacement for Aries.
Note that this is my interpretation though, and is not official in any way.

the aries kernel is still in development as, if I know bryan and how stubborn he can be, it would be an essential asset for our phone.

this is true. each kernel has it's own flavor just like roms. by us helping out and getting it fully functional, that would just add another flavor for people to taste. since it was not started by us, we will not claim it as our own. we just hope that whoever we helped would credit where it's due.
