I love my TF, even with its tiny blotch in the middle of the screen, even with the built-in email app not allowing you to select all deleted email to remove them, but what I really hate is the lack of functionanlity with the camera app. No touch to focus, not much options for lighting and effects, no low light setting. Is their something i'm missing? Is there an app that actually does this? I cant even tell if the camera is autofocusing!
Maybe some of the third party apps in the market could do what you want?
it shows auto-focus when you press the button to take pics.

I did several searches and have become numbed at the prospect of finding my actual problem here (though I cannot imagine I am the only one). Basically it is the camera, it is...sluggish, what I mean is it refreshes very poorly, and I cannot figure out how to set it to flash, ccording to the link below it has this ability. Anyhow, when I take pictures if the item/person do not stay absolutely still all I get is blur, and even if they do stay still if I breath I get the same results, anyone know how I can fix this?

Much Thanks :>)
Unfortunately, the camera in the Touch Pro is not very sensitive to light, so in low-light situations the exposure will be long, leading to blurry photos. The flash isn't very bright, so it doesn't help much except at pretty close range, but I can tell you how to turn it on.
When you are in the camera application, touch the screen and you will see a "gear" icon at the lower right of the screen. Touch it and the menu opens. The icon in the upper left of the menu that looks like a lightning bolt turns on and off the flash.
Hey all,
When I first got my phone and was caught up in the bliss of downloading more camera (and other) apps than I would ever use, I found one camera app that allowed me to touch the screen of the phone, and whatever colour was in the position that I touched, that's the only colour that would be shown in the photo, everything else would be grey scaled. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure pressing the screen actually took the photo, so there wasn't any 'real time' colour filtering.
I've tried going through the apps like FxCamera and Camera 360, but I can't seem to find that function in those..
Can anyone help? Does it make sense what I'm talking about?
Cheers

hello.
haven't been on this site for quite some time, but i am familiar with using custom roms.
i'm using an htc desire s with android 4.0.4, stock rom from htc site.
there are certain things i like about ICS, and other things that simply boggle me.
i've been considering using a custom rom again, but i was hoping someone could shed some light on specific features/functions.
in other words, i would be changing to a custom rom if one is available that has these features, otherwise i'll just leave it alone.
firstly: the camera.
when trying to take up-close photos (macro), the camera will attempt to focus, will succeed, then quickly snap back to being blurry. this happens less with "auto focus" turned off, but it's still frustrating (i can see the hardware moving the camera focus to where i want it, but i can't keep it there). turning on the Scene called "close up" will allow the hardware to stay in the focused range, where i want it, but it overrides the white balance, such that i can't adjust the white balance any more, and the colour is always -always- different from the colour settings in the "auto" Scene setting. very frustrating indeed.
that's problem one.
but the bigger problem (with the camera) is:
when taking a photo where a flash is required/desired (in low lighting), i have to take many -many- photos before i happen to roll the dice and get one in focus. basically, holding up the camera to the darkened scene, the screen is mostly dark. i can take a photo with the flash, but the camera uses the same moment of flash to implement the focus, which is essentially entirely useless. in other words: dark scene, dark screen, flash ready, click to take a photo, flashtrytofocustakepicture = blurry picture. the picture only turns out well if the focus happens to catch in just the right way at the right time.
in contrast, while the stock camera app behaves this way, when i use google goggles, the camera behaves differently. there is a simple button which turns the led light on and off BEFORE taking a picture, which means the focus can function normally on a fully lit scene and then a picture can be taken, in focus. funny thing about that: the photo result that shows as a preview (immediately after snapping a photo in google goggles) is the desired photo, however it is not the photo that the app recognises nor which is saved on the sd card. anyhow, that's a different issue.
the point is: it seems clear to me that the hardware is capable, and the software is capable, but they have not been married correctly in 4.0.4.
would anyone be able to confirm whether another rom or camera app has the macro and light-before-focus capabilities described above?
i have some other questions about the way text copy and paste is implimented, but i'll just stick with the camera question for now.
thanks in advance for any information.
Recently got the Mi Mix 3 and having some quality of life issues with the camera.
Firstly it doesnt seem to play well with Snapchat, in that if Snapchat is set to currently use the front camera the notification "Push the screen down to open camera" does not go away, so even if I am just chatting or something, that is there. Any ideas how to remove it?
I am also wanting to leave the slider gestures on so that when I slide the phone down it will open the front camera in the camera app. However again this does not play ball with snapchat or whats app, it will automatically open the camera app even if another app is trying to take a photo.
Any ideas how to fix either issues?
For me the notification goes away after a few seconds if I don't touch the phone
I keep the camera orientation on the back camera for those kind of apps. Then it won't bother me until I need to use it. But if you want to keep it on the front ig it's something we just have to deal with. At least it goes away though.
I also have my slider settings to open the camera and it works fine when I have other camera apps open. Just need to make sure you've turned to front camera in app before you slide.

Yeah I have got used to it. Do you have your slider options set to "Take a selfie"? When I do that even if Whatsapp is on front camera and slide down, it opens the camera app itself.

Is there actually a method (with root or flashing ofcourse) to get rid of it altogether?

Yeah they're on 'Take a selfie ". And I just checked that out on my Whatsapp and it opens the camera within the app. I don't know why your device seems to be doing that.
Hello,
So when you take a selfie with the original camera app, the camera unit doesn't close when you view the photo, until u actually press the button or close the app, but when you take a selfie, let's say in Instagram, the camera closes immediately after the picture i took is displayed on the screen. And that's pretty annoying because usually on this apps, you take multiple photos one after another, and I'd prefer if the the camera stayed open, it would preserve the motor life, and it would just be more convenient. Is there a way to actually make it stay open? Also I noticed a higher then usual decrease in photo/video quality on this apps, maybe it's since the last update, I'll check if it gets better in the future.
Thanks.
