Ok, so I've been reading a lot about how people are experiencing battery drain on their TF tablet and TF dock. I wasn't experiencing any battery drain overnight until I installed a bunch of apps and played with many settings. So recently, I would see my tablet go from 80% battery to ~60% battery while I slept (around 10 hours of being turned off).
I checked on the Asus Weather widget and it was set to refresh every 4 hours. I turned that off and set it to refresh only manually. Now my battery goes from 91% to 91% (after 10 hours). I've tested this two nights in a row now so I think I've fixed my battery drain issues. Anyone else experience these results?
Other settings I have:
Wi-Fi sleep policy set to turn off when screen turns off.
Does no one have this issue with the Asus Weather Widget? Does no one care about battery drain?

I have such query also, last night 95% before standby with the wifi sleeping, however, when I woke up and checked only left 72% within 9 hours.
So, I untick the Asus weather auto update and changed to manual also.
I will actually switch off the wifi before sleep tonight to test.
I upgraded to 3.2 just two days before, so I don't know much about the wifi problem and battery problem.
But I am quite sure only wifi could cause such battery draining.
It may be not the Asus weather causing the problem, maybe the setting of "screen off with wifi sleeping" actually doesn't sleep the wifi.
I have heard a lot 3.2 with a lot wifi and battery problems...hope Asus finds out and solve the problems.
I still think it's the Asus Weather Widget because as soon as I turned off the refresh setting and changed it to Manual refresh, I stopped seeing the battery drain.
Let me know if you see your battery do better after switching to manual.
I saw a similar improvement when switching from the 4 hr default to manual. I tested it last night and saw 10% drop in dock battery in ~10hrs, where before it was about 2-3% / hour.

I now have to agree with you. I've tested the Asus Weather Widget (still on manual refresh) with Wi-Fi sleep policy set to turn off when the screen turns off, and I have around 3% battery drain per hour. Apparently I have had Airplane mode on for a while so WiFi was not activated while I was sleeping.
This is not good.
So why the heck is the Wi-Fi not sleeping when it is supposed to??

When I switch my Tablet screen off and set the WiFi as turn off when screen off, my battery still drains extremely fast. From the pic you can see, my battery is running out from full to 10% in only 1day and 6 hours without any use. My GPS and bluetooth are also turned off in this period. From the pic you can also see my CPU load is over 30% at most of the time.
From the second pic, I can see the process "System" uses the CPU very hard
Can some one figure it out and I will appriciate it very much!

I am seeing the exact same problem, not sure what the cause is either. I read somewhere about "wakelocks" where some app will try to keep the CPU awake when you try to go into standby and it results in high system usage.
Thank you for this thread, I am also having this problem. I think the problem for me may be because of Google Maps.
Basically, I'm running some tests now. I had massive battery drain overnight while I slept. The tablet would go from 90% down to 50% in an 10 hour period (4%/hr). It didn't matter if it was docked or not docked. I was running Google Maps v5.8.0 and saw some people post that the new version is eating up the battery. So I removed the updates for Google Maps and tried again.
Now I'm running v5.6.1 of Google Maps and the battery went from 100% to 42% in a 17 hour period with absolutely no use (3.5%/hr). I checked battery usage, and Google Maps is at the top and it's taking up 41% of what was used. That's ridiculous.
So now I'm going to install the latest Google Maps and see if this helps at all. I've also attached some screen shots of my latest tests.
Other details:
Wi-Fi is set to sleep when the screen turns off.
MobileDock Battery saving mode is checked.
Use location for Google Search is unchecked.

Try turning off all location services (WIFI/GPS) and see if the problem goes away. I did something similar and the sleep mode CPU utilization dropped back to 1% or so. I haven't yet enabled the settings one by one to see which one cis causing the issue.

You are correct. I am able to turn the Airplane mode on and see virtually no battery drain at night. But this is rather annoying to have to turn on airplane mode every time you are done using the tablet and turn it back off whenever you want to use the tablet.
The best option would be to locate the source of this issue and fix that. Tonight I'll be testing Google Latitude turned off to see if this fixes anything.
As a test I turned back on location services (GPS/Google) but unchecked the use WiFi for location and found the problem went away overnight. Only a few % CPU use. Not quite as good as leaving in Airplane mode but close. Lost about 2-3% CPU over 7 hours. WiFi use setting is to disable with screen turned off.
So after my test last night, I still had massive battery drain.
I turned off Latitude as best I could last night and still same result. Google Maps is chewing up my battery like no other: from 100% to 52% in 15 hours with zero usage by me. Anyone have any other ideas? Any other apps that might be causing this?

I had previously logged out of latitude and saw the same high drain result as you, so don't think it is that. When I disabled the WiFi location the drain stopped (leaving gps on). I agree it may be Google maps related since it uses the WiFi location services (since maps uses that service to locate the tablet along with gps).
I have a similar issue, but my problem is not with Google Maps. Instead, the main battery drain is "Android System." I usually leave my Transformer on standby 24/7 and used to only have to charge once a week. This problem appeared out of the blue a few days ago.
Google mail is the only thing on auto-sync, and this setting has never caused any issues in the past. Thus, I'm not sure why Android System is now suddenly waking up at random when asleep. You can see in the plot that System constantly requires 30% CPU usage once it happens, until I actually turn the device back on.
In addition, my wi-fi sleep policy is set to turn off when the screen is off. Recently, it seems it is always on, even when the device is asleep.
EDIT: The graphs from the OP suggest that our issue might be related, but the problem appears to manifest much more frequently for the OP. Crossing my fingers that next week's update somehow fixes this problem.

The system process was the same issue on my system as well (didn't show up as google maps). I confirmed that turning off the "Use Wireless Networks" under Location and Security stopped the constant 30% cpu usage when in standby.
After freezing Maps, which is the biggest culprit for me....i noticed, System Process' was way high now.

Google Maps battery drain Solved!
For me, I figured out the issue was Latitude.
I was getting bad battery drain overnight and Google Maps was the largest user by far. I finally signed out of Latitude completely. Battery drain dropped to around 2% (total) overnight! This is acceptable!
As it turns out, Latitude wakes up my device while it should be sleeping in order to update my location and therefore draining massive battery overnight. I'm going to post this as a bug with Latitude/Google Maps because this is causing waaaay too much battery drain.
So it looks like I won't be able to leave Latitude signed in. Once I'm done using it, I will have to sign out of Latitude. This way I can leave Wi-Fi on and set to turn off when the screen turns off. Thereby I get really good battery life again.
On a side note, my phone has the same behaviour, but I never noticed it because I'm usually charging my phone at night. So Latitude...basically...sucks (battery).
Hi guys. The idle battery drain is ridiculous in my transformer. I charged it over night and left it home idle for 12 hours. And there's only 52% battery left. I checked the battery usage and it says 34% are from wifi, but I setted it to wifi off when screen is off. Beautiful Widgets consume 15%, tablet idle 11%, android os 10%, screen 10%. My tablet is almost a week old and I'm running prime v 1.7 with default settings. And is there any free Widgets that lets you toggle wifi,bt, auto sync, and etc....?

I'm running the same rom and i don't have that kinda drain. May be some app running in the background? May be wipe and start with clean slate?
Beautifulwidgets come with all the toggle widgets you need.
Turn of background sync and put in airplane mode and see if this helps, i turn mine off when i am not using it for a extended time.

Obviously something is taking wakelock. That's the only way you can get drain like that. Start uninstalling apps and widgets until it goes away. I would start with Beautiful Widgets, because it's on the Consuming Power list. Widgetsoid is free, and has alot more function.

Basically, for me I had the tablet charged to 100% and it would drop to ~50% after 15 hours of being idle and not touching the thing once. I had WiFi set to turn off when the screen turns off, and all other settings adjusted to try and save battery life. Google Maps was the biggest user of battery while the tablet should have been sleeping.
For me, the problem turned out to be Latitude. Latitude was waking my tablet, turning on WiFI and updating the location while the tablet should have been sleeping. I had to sign out of Latitude completely. This fixed all the battery issues I was having. Now if I need to use Latitude, I will sign back it, update, then sign back out. Kind of annoying, but it is what it is.

Hi guy, my wifi won't turn off when my Xoom is on sleep. I have set the settings of 'keep wifi on during sleep' both to 'NEVER' and 'ONLY WHEN PLUGGED' but nothing happens. Wifi stays on and keeps draining my battery life. I am running rooted with the latest version of nightly 62 and I've been having this issue since 55. I have reinstalled, flashed, factory reset, wiped my Xoom.
Is anyone else having this issue? What should I do?
From my experience, wifi stays on for a little while longer after device sleeps. However, some apps in background may trigger wifi back on again. So I turn off wifi when i go to bed. Actually i notice wifi itself will not drain much battery, 1-2% for 10hr. It's the host apps sucking the juice.
I am not an expert though.
OK i've also checked it out and as you said wifi turns off after some time. My main problem now is that my battery life won't last more than 3-4 hours on wifi.
I have posted my battery stats with use of web browsing and watching pictures on gallery...

What do you mean "no more than 3-4 hours"? In your battery chart, you can get more than that even starting from 75% battery.
What I wanted to say is that I think my battery won't last more than 4 hours with wifi on and some serious usage.. from my stats as I can see I've been using it 5 hours but I only had screen on and browsing the web. I think there will be a huge difference if I am watching a movie or playing a game.. I don't have the time to check it now but I will post my results in some days..
According to my previous battery graph do you see any problem or something less from what your Xoom battery holds? Does this battery drain seems normal to you?

I think you'll find it will stay on for about 15 minutes. There is some setting in a system database (using a sqlite editor) that can be changed to bring this down. I doubt Wifi is what's draining your battery. Are you synching email via activesync or running other stuff in the background?
I am only using my yahoo mail from the EMail app. I don't know if it uses activesync. I have set it to check emails every 30minutes.

What option to set if i want Wifi to turn of after some time of when phone sleeps. Previously i had set the option to 15 minutes but that option is not available in ICS and i m having a hard time understanding how these options work on my sensation.
Can anyone explain what each of these options do ?

My guess:
1) Always: WIFI always on no matter awake or asleep
2) Only when plugged in: WIFI always on only when plugged to power
3) Never: WIFI will be off if asleep (my current setting)

For an app to change wifi sleep policy, it needs the WRITE_SETTINGS permission.
Executive summary = You always want "Keep Wifi on During Sleep" set to "Always" if you care about your battery life.
In post #17 in the "P6210 - Huge Battery Drain on ICS" thread iosandroid found that setting "Settings->Wifi->Menu->Advanced->Keep Wifi on During Sleep" to "Never" caused battery drain. Since I feel this is big bug and my mom told me I'm special I thought I'd start a new thread with some more details on this problem, a more descriptive thread title to highlight this issue and a few questions of my own.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (aka GT-P6210) WiFi only tablet that had HC (Honeycomb) when I first got it. To save battery I changed "Settings->Wifi->Menu->Advanced->Keep Wifi on During Sleep" to "Never" (actually think the wording was a little different back in the HC days, but you get the idea). I'm not sure if/how much this helped, but it didn't hurt my battery life.
Shortly after upgrading to ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) I noticed my battery life was worse. Apparently I wasn't alone since "iosandroid" (see above) had the same problem and solution. That is, if you set Settings->Wifi->Menu->Advanced->Keep Wifi on During Sleep" to "Never" or "Only when plugged in" your better drains much faster when you're tablet is idle. How much faster? In my tests setting this to "Never" drained my battery by 3.10%/hour. If I leave this at its ICS default of "Always" my battery only drains at 0.27%/hour, OVER 10 TIMES BETTER (idle) BATTERY LIFE! See the bottom of this post for a listing of my battery drain tests.
By using "CPU Spy" I could see that with "Keep Wifi on During Sleep" set to "Never" my tablet would never go into deep sleep, but with it set to "Always" my tablet would spend almost all of its time in deep sleep. GSam Battery Monitor showed that "Kernel (Android OS)" was using up most of my battery when this problem is occurring.
This problem isn't limited to ICS, I also got the same results with JB (Jelly Bean). Specifically I used "AOKP Jelly Bean Milestone 1". With stock ICS the default setting is "Always", so only people that mess with their advanced settings will be affected by this. Note that I believe that an OTA upgrade from HC to ICS will retain your previous settings for this. In JB (at least AOKP JB), this problem will have a much wider reach since "Keep Wifi on During Sleep" defaults to "Never".
Now on to my questions:
-Does anyone know the scope of this bug? Does it only affect the P6210, or Samsung devices, or every Android device? iosandroid reported having the same problem with his phone.
-Do I have to open a tech support case with Samsung to report this bug, or is there a better way?

All I can say or add to this my tenderloin HP touch pad running cm is the same keep wifi on always drains the battery slower than never.
IMO, it would be because of 3G activating when the wifi turn off during sleep.
Try doing your test in Airplane mode to isolate the activation of the Phone radio and stick only to WIFI during your comparison test.
EDIT: ooops! sorry, it just occured to me that you've got a P6210 and not a P6200. My bad.

This is still worse than the 0.27%/hour you lose when you just leave WiFi on (Keep Wifi on During Sleep? set to Always). This airplane mode battery drain was also unexpected to me, but in googling it seems like this is a common problem.
One last test I did was to manually turn the WiFi off. When I did that the battery only drained at a rate of 0.11%/hour (lost 1% total over 9.5 hours). I should test that longer to get a more precise number, but my short test was good enough to show that manually turning WiFi off does actually save power (it's about time something worked as I expected it to .
My next planned test it to use something like AutomateIt to automatically turn off the WiFi after the screen turns off to see if I can automate the WiFi battery savings.
My GT-P6210 also has the same issue after installing Elements HD rom. I never had this issue even after upgrading from honeycomb to ICS stock.i

If you know how, try looking into the build.prop. you'll find that stock wifi. supplicant_scan_interval=15. try a higher number like 90 or 180. this basically lengthens the time for wifi network searches from 15 secs to 90 or 180 seconds respectively.

I could probably figure out how to change that, but I've decided that just leaving WiFi on all the time gives me good enough battery life. I enjoy troubleshooting these types of technical problems, but unfortunately I must return to debugging my three year old daughter's Dravet Syndrome. Her cognition is deteriorating, so I'm hoping to find a solution or workaround soon. I've got this issue on a Chinese Tablet running JB 4.1.1. After some investigation the conclusion I've reached is that the settings are mislabled on the GUI. "Always" results in disconnection from the SSID 15 minutes into sleep (although WIFI is still 'ON'). "Never" keeps WIFI on and connected indefinitely, and if autosync is also on you'll get lots of wake-locks and reduced standby battery life, particularly if you have location reporting on and google maps installed.

Interesting results, but that wasn't my experience. For example with WiFi always on my tablet does stay connected to the network all the time. All of these weird issues is about enough to make you want to buy an iPad.
This topic has been up a couple of times before, perhaps most interestingly discussed in this thread.
It appears the problem still exists (asusdec_wake kernel wake), and I'm experiencing extreme battery drain during sleep with the dock attached. Currently running Cromi-X 5.4, and I have tried hunds 3.4.4, and _that 8 and 9 kernels.
It appears to behave as following: The tablet enters deep sleep with low battery drain (0.3% per hr with wifi off), and after a while (have seen it happen after a range of 1 - 5 hours) it starts draining quickly as asusdec_wake wakes the tablet up. It only occurs when the tablet is docked, it can occur at both high charge levels and when the dock is empty (mine always drains to 0%). It does not seem to matter whether wifi is on or off. I monitor the battery with better battery stats.
It's a real pity, since I have to turn the tablet off whenever I want to keep the dock attached.
Is anyone else experiencing this drain? Any suggestions for fixes?

How do you know that it first enters deep sleep and that it's woken up later?
asusdec_wake is a wake lock which only keeps the tablet awake, so the question is what causes the wake up and keeps the wake lock?

It might be a strong assumption, but it's based on the battery drain patterns I've seen. I've tried to monitor this a bit the last few days. Usually the battery drain is as expected during sleep for a while (whenever I check during this period, the asusdec_wake has not been active and the entire period the tablet has been in deep sleep), before it increases and stays high. I attach some screen shots where this can be seen. The change in slope in the battery graph is after about 7 hours. In those screen shots the deep sleep time reported by bbs was 6h24m. I'm not sure the reason for suspend_backoff, but I assume something is forcing the tablet to stay out of deep sleep. If I disconnected the tablet, there are no issues with suspend_backoff (and naturally not with asusdec_wake either).

Try turning location services off completely for me in settings.
Does that help? Give it a reboot as well.

Yes it did, thank you! 21 hours, only 3% down and asusdec_wake inactive. I will report back if things change.
Will add always turning this off when tablet screen is off to Tasker. Interesting that it caused this huge battery drain, given that gps and wifi was off anyways. Wakeups from com.google.android.gms decreased from many to nearly none when turning off location access, perhaps it is sufficient to turn of google apps location access in settings.

It's Google now constantly polling for your location as far as I can tell.
