Im using Simple root,I get as far as checking for p98img.zip part.It seems like it can find the img..zip file.i made a gold card 2 times.
Make sure its named exactly PD98IMG.zip
The capitols are important. Also make sure you don't have. Zip.zip at the end. Its a simple common mistake
Personally recommend the ace hack kit.. way way easier
No Hay de Queso No Mas de Papa
are you sure the PD98IMG.zip file is on there ?
make sure you have the phone set to (charge only) after you make the gold card and that you have fast boot unchecked and usb debugging checked this way the program can push the zip file onto your sd card
I have to check and see if its named correctly its all in caps.I tried the ace hack kit but everytime I open the cmd prompt its says cannot open cause I'm not administrator.
Im pretty sure its on the SD card I connect my phone and I see it on there

the last thing it says is echo off then i get device is offline then the red triangle
Do you have HTC sync installed? Make sure its turned off in this step. I have to relook at the manual haven't rooted in a while

3 S-OFF, SuperCID and More
This will:
Once again temproot the phone. (Type exit and enter at the # prompt.)
Set Radio S-OFF
Set SuperCID
Remove Carrier SIMLOCK
Install Clockworkmod Recovery
Root the phone
Install RomManager
Install Superuser
Fix sound
NOTE: This is still the downgrade ROM, and not the latest and greatest,
but it will be fully functional at this point.
can you boot into hboot and see if you have son still?
also is udb debugging on?
still says son
ok not sure why its not working but you can try to finishing it manually.

Visionary can not perform S-OFF. People tried to come up with 1-click app to do that but it's not possible, at least right now.
Follow this guide to make it happen. It's not as hard as it looks.

I've tried all methods and nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions? If you need more info just ask, but like i said, i've tried like three different ways and none work. I'll edit this post soon and add what common errors im getting
I couldnt get it done with Visionary r14, instead of getting the option screen when I opened it, it went straight to the rooting phone screen and just didnt work
I found r11 and used it instead and that solved my problem, the rest of the process went easy

I had the same problem. I used one way to turn S-off when I had the myTouch 4g with the radio 0.85.xxxx. When I had my phone swapped since I made up an excuse to get the good screen, the radio was 0.86.xxxx. I tried to follow the same steps as I did with 0.85.xxxx, but wouldn't work. So I ended up trying the ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ROOT and it worked. I put everything unlocked even SIM. THen I used VISIONary r14 to have it root then perm root.

Seriously people, don't you read threads? The rooting method is very easy and does not require ADB or the SDK. I've rooted *5 PHONES* on the first try by reading and just following the damn directions.
You temproot, run a couple of commands in terminal, reboot, temproot, permroot, and go on your merry way.
If this doesn't work follow the guide for gfree and that will do it.
Here, I made a SUPER-STEP-BY-STEP guide. If this is still too complicated for you then you really shouldn't be rooting at all, as it requires some basic knowledge of how to use a computer and the phone. And I mean BASIC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834225
This one is pretty damn easy, takes all of 10 minutes. Use the Terminal Emulator method.
Read the first post all the way through before you start to make sure you understand the entire process. In a nutshell, here's what happens:
*Download root.rar and extract to be a folder called ROOT on your sdcard. The ROOT folder should not be inside any other folders, so it will be sdcard/root.
*Download a file manager from the Market. Linda File Manager is my favorite.
*Download Terminal Emulator from the Market.
*Download the Visionary.apk file from the link in thread.
*from home screen - MENU, SETTINGS, APPLICATIONS, ALLOW INSTALL OF NON-MARKET APPS. Make sure the box is checked. ALSO UNCHECK FAST BOOT.
*Open linda file manager, navigate to visionary and click on it to install.
*Reboot. This will take a minute.
*Open visionary, check the box for SET SYSTEM R/W AFTER ROOT.
*Hit button for TEMP ROOT. Give it a minute.
*Open Terminal Emulator and type THE ITALIC COMMANDS, pressing ENTER after each.
su
*You should get a prompt for SUPERUSER PERMISSIONS. Click ALLOW. Back in Terminal, continue with these commands, typing them EXACTLY as they appear and pressing ENTER after each line.
cd sdcard/root
sh root.sh
*Now just wait a few minutes.
*When it's done, shut down the phone.
*Hold volume down + power until you get to a white screen. If it says S-OFF near the top then you're almost done. If not, repeat the previous steps until you do see S-OFF.
*Reboot.
*Open visionary, make sure SET SYSTEM R/W AFTER ROOT is checked.
*Click TEMP ROOT.
*When done, click ATTEMPT PERM ROOT. This might take a few minutes. Your phone will reboot itself when done. (I think)
When you boot back up you should be permanently rooted and you are ready to install a custom ROM if you like.
*To verify that you are rooted, open Terminal Emulator and type su. If you get the # sign and a notice that superuser permissions were granted, then you have succeeded in rooting your phone. Congrats!
Installing a custom ROM is another procedure so do a search for the guides on those procedures.

Assuming you're doing it correctly, some phones have trouble. Look for the guide titled ULTIMATE S-OFF, CHECK OUT EVEN IF ALREADY ROOTED.

The gfree method should do the trick.

Well, today I converted from iP4 to Android. Very nice. My rooting experience went without a hiccup.
Phone is showing Wifi connected, and in settings says connected under my network name. I wan't to install the ATT radio, and did it through the hack kit v11 under options, but no go. My understanding is I download ROMS from the phones browser and move them to the SD and flash. This is all done from the phone, from my understanding after hours of reading. BUT, I can't get on the internet, so how can I repair?
Thanks
Ray
Try turning on airplane mode for 20 seconds if not check out the radio thread on the dev forum..
And download the files for whatever radio you desire.

Forgot to mention that I did try Airplane mode as well as a reboot. Also, no cellular service on the device until I get a sim adapter so I can pop my iP4 sim in. Until then, only Wifi, which you already know is not working.
Download the files on your computer then transfer them to the SD card on your phone then flash the radio.

Thanks! I checked the Dev radio thread and found this info:
AT&T Stock Radio - Released with the phone
Radio OS Base: FroYo
Radio: 12.39.60.19x_26.06.04.06_M
My radio is: 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M
I'm a bit confused how it doesn't work then.
NOW, excuse my ignorance but I do not have a micro-sd adapter for my computer. Can I place the file on the card through mount as disk drive? Which folder do I put the file in?
You can transfer the file when using the disk drive option. Place the file in the root of the card.
Sent from my Inspire using the power of the dark side.
Alright, not to be a pain in the ass, but could someone please direct me to a write up on flashing the radio, with the file placed on the sd via disk drive file transfer?
When plugged in the the computer and opening the disk, this is what I got..

ROManager IS on my device. I can not find how to navigate to root to place the radio file in. Hopefully once I get through this, it was in fact the problem and does fix it.
Are you still on the downgraded rom from the root process? I have seen a few people have wifi issues with it. Once they flashed to something else their issues went away. Maybe your in the same situation. You should flash attn1 stock rooted rom, unless you already have a custom rom in mine then try that and see it your wifi issues persist

What you show is the root of your SD. Just drag it over and make sure that it is not in a folder. Also verify the md5 sum with either astro file manager or android file verifier from the market. Make sure that they match from what was posted in the radio thread

The problem is this phone has no way to access data. Wifi is broken, and no cell service until I get a SIM adapter. Maybe if I flash a different ROM it will fix my problem? I am on the downgraded ROM after rooting.
Sorry had a blonde moment. You can verify the md5 sum from your Mac. Theirs a way using terminal . Open terminal type md5 hit space then drag n drop your file into terminal then enter/return. Flashing a rom "should" solve your problem but like I said I've only seen this issue arise a few times

I'm downloading clear droid right now. Hopefully this works..flashing radio's sounds very risky.
Well the risk is that if you flash a corrupted radio it has the potential to brick your phone. But that's what the md5check is for. This will allow you to verify that its not corrupted when you downloaded the file. Sometimes for whatever reason it might have not downloaded correctly or completely, this gives you a way to check
No hay de queso no mas de papa
I was reading here in the Dev section that you will brick your phone if the radio file didn't match a seperate file? Do you only install one, or two files when flashing radio? Also, reading the ClearDroid rom info as it is downloading, it says to flash radio through hboot.
Boy, Android is more fun..but a LOT more complicated than my iP4.
EDIT: Placed ROM in root folder and tried "install rom from sd card" in rom manager. It said I must install clockworkmod recovery first. CANT install it because I have NO way to connect to the internet!
If the md5 sum doesn't match then theirs potential for a problem.
For for radios their are two files. Theirs the radio and them ril. Its generally recommended that you flash corresponding files for better results. In the radio thread they have the radio followed by the corresponding ril.
I have seen people use different radios with different rils but only a small handful. Radios are a little finicky what works for me doesn't necessarily work for you.
At first all this android rooting is alot to take in. I too came from an iPhone. But once you get the basics and terminalogy it gets much easier

Your going to have to manually going.to recovery. Power down your device. Press volume down and the power button. Then scroll down to recovery. Make sure you don't have a file named pd98img.
Then wipe data. Go into advanced wipe dalvik. Now go to install from SD card and flash

You can flash the Rom from hboot but it needs to be named pd98img.zip. If you go into Bubby's faq, you can download a stock rooted rom that includes CWM recovery. It should give you enough functionality to load any Rom you choose.

What is this doing if I do this? Is there a way to install the ClearDroid ROM folder (not zip) from here? I'm in the menu right now..
You should do as previously suggested. Go to the dev forum and get attn1's stock rom. Look for ACE_Cingular_US. This is a rom and radio, the latest with both, that can be flashed thru bootloader. It fixes everything, so you will have wifi. Then you can download what you need if you want to flash a custom rom.

This tutorial is for noob people like me who needs a clean, simple and secure way to achieve something more from their stock ROM phones.
No doubt the devs are doing magics with their images but probably there are many conservative people who want to stay with their original firmwares.
So here we go:
My phone was runnig RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.1_Radio_20.28b.30.080 5U_38.03.02.11_M_release out of the box first. It was S-ON. I S-OFFed it using Alpharevx and then I rooted it with Gingerbreak 1.20. Then I decided to update the phone with the stock RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.47.401.4_Radio_20.28I.30.085 AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199410_signed and I lost my root but the phone was still showing S-OFF. Rooting with Gingerbreak is not working on 1.47.xxx ROMs. I rooted it using 4EXTRecovery v2.1.0 FINAL and this file from http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
To install 4EXTRecovery v2.1.0 FINAL on a non rooted phone(thanks to madmaxx82 and .sh4d0w.):
1. Download and unzip on your PC the attached 4EXTRecovery v2.1.0 FINAL.zip file
2.Copy all 5 files to the C:\ directory of your PC.
3.Connect your phone to the PC(debug usb option activated) charge only
4.Run cmd to open console, point to the directory where you copied the files and type: adb reboot bootloader - device will boot into the bootloader
5.Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Done
After reboot you should have 4EXTRecovery installed available from recovery option on your hboot menu.
6. Copy to the root of your SD Card the file su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip which you can download from here
7.Go to the 4EXTRecovery > install from sd card and choose su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
8.Done. After reboot you should have SUPERUSER installed and your phone is rooted again
To get Ad hoc wifi support:
9.Download and unzip the attached Ad hoc.zip file to your PC.
10. Install from 4EXTRecovery ADHOC.v2.zip file and reboot.
11.Copy and replace wpa_supplicant file to: /system/bin
(you can use file expert apk from the market to do that)
Done. You have an Ad hoc wi-fi support.
YOUR PHONE MUST BE S-OFF BEFORE TO START THIS PROCEDURE!!!
DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK!
Good luck!
You can have a look here for double check: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16171869&postcount=184
Just to be sure: does installing 4EXTRecovery or su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed wipe any data from you phone?
NO it didn't !
I did it last night and worked !
Phone remains untached. Just rooted

If I have ClockworkMod Recovery installed already then can I install 4EXTRecovery on top of that?
I don't think so. You better don't. But why do you need 4EXT once you have already CWM installed? I just shared one option to root 1.47.xx ROM which was not possible to do with Gingerbreak. If I have to remove CWM I would flash stock RUU. You will keep your S-OFF but will loose root. Then install 4EXTRecovery and proceed to root with the su-file. But maybe there is more elegant and time-saving way to do it. Just surch around the forum.

But you have SuperUser installed so your phone is already rooted. What actually are you trying to do?
When I was installing the stock ROM I was using the drivers provided from the official HTC website. Before to succeed with flashing the RUU it gave me couple of times connection error and waiting for device. I tried with sync option and with charge option and it worked at the end. You can try that too. As far as I remember flashing the RUU was with USB debug OFF.

What is the problem with your wifi? Install the file expert apk from market. Open it and go to the place on your SD Card where you put the file wpa_supplicant. Copy the file and navigate to /system/bin and paste it - it will ask you to overwrite the existing file. Press ok and that's it. Make sure that you have installed the ADHOC.v2.zip file from recovery too.

Just boot in to recovery and choose install zip from sd card
Navigate to ADHOC.v2.zip(the file should be on the root of your SD Card) and install it. Reboot.

im a noob so let me tell you how i d/l it. D/L it was winrar file and i extracted but i can not get run admin when i right click also on vista.
The hack kit should just be a zip file, which you could double click on it and extract all. Once extracted you will see the hack ace command script file and the effen manual. Open the effen manual and read it a few times. It is very easy but you will familiarize yourself with the procedure. You can uninstall HTC sync after you have installed it. You just need the USB drivers. The manual will explain this. You should be able to right click on the hack ace command script and select run as administrator. Then follow along with the manual and the on screen prompts.

thanks for the help now for some reason cant get a gold card
Try formatting your card, fat32. You will lose all data so back up first. There should be information in the manual.
if after you format to fat32 like wolf said and you still cant make your goldcard, use bubby's guide to make the goldcard and then use the hackkit to do the root.
I tried to go to psas.revskills.de site to make my goldcard but cannot access from firefox or I/E did anybody have the same problem. Is there something ive done wrong firewalls are turned off but still no go.

antivirus is off as in disabled, or totally uninstalled? cause if you download the program even when the antivirus is only disabled weird **** happens, you have to have AV totally off the comp.

Finally, I have managed to achieve root on this device. Below is the instructions on how I managed to root. The below steps worked for me, but there is a possibility that they won't work for you, Im not 100% sure. They should though. This is for the SM-S550TL only. Also, this will void your warranty. Only Follow the below tutorial if you are comfortable with it, READ VERY CAREFULLY! I assume no responsibility for your actions, in any way, shape, or form. You try this at your own risk, That being said, here are the instructions:
SIDE NOTE: YOU CANNOT FLASH TWRP, IT WILL LOCK YOUR DEVICE WITH "THIS DEVICE HAS BEEN FLASHED WITH UNAUTHORIZED SOFTWARE" MESSAGE. DO NOT ATTEMPT! BE VERY CAREFUL AS WELL WITH WHAT YOU DO WITH THE ROOT ACCESS, UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE THE STOCK FIRMWARE FROM ANOTHER SOURCE AND CAN RESTORE WITH ODIN!
1. Flash the boot.tar with the lastest odin (download for odin not included). from the following link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-KfJE4M0My6VnFJNTBKZmJMdlE
It will change your SElinux mode to permissive.
2. You will need to find a way to disable or block all knox packages, (I had to use the paid samsung package disabler off google play). Another alternative is use the debloater tool, (google is your friend on how to find it). although you need to be careful if going this route on what you block, unless you have the stock firmware for flashing with odin.
3. Download The latest version of Kingroot and make sure your device is either plugged in or has a 50% or higher charge.
4. Run kingroot, If your device freezes, or goes to the "kernel panic upload mode", during the root process, DONT PANIC, Pull battery and reboot into the android os, It may take anywhere from 1-5 tries to get root, (at least this was my experience).
5. Again, I assume no responsibility for you actions, you try the above at your own risk. Enjoy being a root user if the above works for you!
it is working
thank you for your instruction, finally kicked the ass of tracfone
root verified.
Device rooted, used SuperSu-Me Pro to switch from KingRoot to SuperSu, all thanks go to hydroman202
Worked for me too. Thanks. So theres no way to install cfw yet right?

Worked for me! Thanks a million @hydroman202 and @daryl2347!!!
Now that it's rooted has anybody tried flashing anything with FlashFire or Flashify? I'd be most interested in any method to get a Stock OpenGapps package on there to replace the Samsung/TouchWiz crap.
Man, I hate TracFone! De-Bloating, de-SIMlocking and de-TouchWizzing this baby ain't gonna be easy....
SM-S550TL Step-by-Step Rooting Instructions for N00bs
Building off the excellent work of @hydroman202 and @daryl2347, I have compiled these full, step-by-step SM-S550TL rooting instructions in plain English for n00bs.
00 If you have already experimented or pranked with your device and screwed something up, you need to reflash the stock firmware via Odin (read through these educational points whether you need them already or not!!!):
00.A Create a new folder on your Windows desktop and name it "SM-S550TL". This is where you will put all the files you download and use with this device.
00.B Download Odin3 v. v3.12.3 here. Unzip the folder inside into your SM-S550TL folder.
00.C Download the firmware here and unzip ALL_TFN_S550TLUDU1APG1_S550TLTFN1APG1_CL8482018_QB10267860_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 into your SM-S550TL folder.
00.D Run Odin AS ADMINISTRATOR (right-click > Run As Administrator).
00.E Start your SM-S550TL in Download Mode by simultaneously holding Volume-Down, Home, and Power buttons. When you get to the next screen, press Volume-Up. Now that you're in DL mode, plug your SM-S550TL into a USB port on the computer.
00.F When you see the device is connected (under ID:COM there will be a block that turns baby blue and say 0:[COMx] inside), press the AP button and navigate to your ALL_TFN_S550TLUDU1APG1_S550TLTFN1APG1_CL8482018_QB10267860_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5.
00.G Wait for the package to verify. When it's done, it will say "Leave CS" in the log. Press start. Wait for Odin to say "PASS!" The device will reboot. Exit Odin.
00.H Go through the device setup procedure: When signing into your Google account, do it slowly, waiting after each step. A pop-up will appear asking if you want Google to check for security threats, I strongly suggest you press Decline. (If you miss the pop-up during setup, you can turn this setting off in Settings>Google>Security>Scan device for security settings.) Skip setting up a Samsung account (unless you want loads of bloatware). Do not set up anything related to Knox, it will give you trouble later.
00.I Go into your device settings. Here take the following steps: Under Display, set the screen timeout to 10 minutes. Under Lockscreen and Security, enable Unknown Sources, then scroll down and go into Other Security Settings. Click Device Administrators, and disable (i.e. deactivate) Android Device Manager. Go back to your main Settings and scroll down to About Device, here find Build Number and tap it repeatedly until it says you have enabled Developer Options. Go back to the main Settings menu and under Developer Options, enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging.
01 Download the the boot.tar file provided here, and save it in your SM-S550TL folder. Using Odin as per the procedure above, click AP and flash the boot.tar file. This will set your SElinux mode to permissive.
02 Download and install the Debloater Tool for Android by @gatesjunior from here on your Windows PC. Before doing anything, watch the video on that page. Run the program and I recommend you disable all the following before proceeding with the root procedure below:
ContainerAgent2.apk (com.sec.knox.containeragent2)
KLMSAgent.apk (com.samsung.klmsagent)
KnoxAppsUpdateAgent.apk (com.samsung.knox.appsupdateagent)
KnoxAttestationAgent.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation)
KnoxBBCProvider.apk (com.samsung.android.bbc.fileprovider)
KnoxBluetooth.apk (com.sec.knox.bluetooth)
KnoxFolderContainer.apk (com.sec.knox.foldercontainer)
KnoxKeyguard.apk (com.samsung.knox.kss)
KnoxSetupWizardClient.apk (com.sec.knox.knoxsetupwizardclient)
KnoxShortcuts.apk (com.sec.knox.shortcutsms)
KnoxSwitcher.apk (com.sec.knox.switcher)
KnoxTrustAgent.apk (com.Samsung.knox.knoxtrustagent)
MyKNOXSetupWizard.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.myknoxsetupwizard)
RCPComponents.apk (com.samsung.knox.rep.components)
SecurityLogAgent.apk (com.samsung.android.securitylogagent)
SharedDeviceKeyguard.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.shareddevice.keyguard)
UniversalMDMClient.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.cloudmdm.smdms)
03 Download the latest KingRoot apk from here to your SM-S550TL device. Install it. Make sure your device is either plugged in or has a 50% or higher charge. Make sure you are connected to the internet through WiFi or mobile data. Run KingRoot and follow the instructions to do the root procedure. Be patient. If the device freezes, DON'T PANIC! Simply pull the battery and start KingRoot again. It may take several tries, but you'll eventually conquer it.
04 Once KingRoot says it has achieved root, go to Google Play and install Root Check by @jrummy16 here. Run it, grant supersu permission, and it should say the device is rooted and the superuser is KingRoot.
05 Cool, so far so good. Now go back to Google Play and install Super-Sume Pro by @gatesjunior from here. Run it, read carefully and follow the instructions. Once complete you will have installed SuperSu by Chainfire and uninstalled KingRoot (thanks, KingRoot, it's been good to know ya!).
06 Run Root Check by JRummy again. Now it should confirm that you have root via SuperSu. It might ask if you want to install BusyBox. It's up to you, JRummy is a reliable developer. But I recommend you go to optional step 07 below.
07 Optional: Go back to Google Play and install BusyBox by @Stericson (free or pro) and install the latest BusyBox.
08 If you follow these instructions perfectly, you'll be in business.... But it's your responsibility and yours alone if you mess it up. Don't blame us. :good:

All was well until I got to this point, I installed Super-Sume Pro and it just keeps saying "processing please wait". I then installed SuperSu from the playstore and was unable to get it to remove KingRoot. First time go with rooting, not sure what the hangup is. I've been able to do what I need to do, but I'd like to remove KingRoot if possible. Any thoughts?
Also, SuperSu won't update the binaries. I don't know if it's because KingRoot is still installed or not. RootCheck shows SuperSu as the primary root application. Again, kind of a noob with android.
Edit: noob figured it out...

How did you manage to solve it? I've done exactly the same as you but when trying to run Sumer-Sume for the first time, the window opens and closes not even after a second. It just don't stay open, automatically closes without letting me do anything.
Can someone help me out on this one?

Uninstall Super-Sume Pro. Re-download and install from the Play Store. Try again. If you didn't install it from the Play Store it won't work. Spend the 4 bucks.
