google voice guided navigation problem - HTC Sensation

I found this on a htc sensation forum and am having the EXACT same problem : "I have a problem with my Google Maps. Each time I try to use Driving Navigation function, I receive the following error: "For voice-guided navigation, you need to install text-to-speech support from the Android Market." Then, when I click on "Install," I'm taken to the Market and I receive another message saying: "There are no matches in Android Market for the search: pname:com.svox.langpack.installer." Has anyone experienced similar issue? Any advice how to solve this?
However, if I skip the installation, it seems that there is already basic speech navigation installed because I hear "in half a mile, turn left"-- the GPS voice however is not saying the street name or highway name like my mytouch did" haven't been able to find any explanation and its driving me nuts because i use the voice guided nav a lot.. i have the 5.8 version of maps as well. im going to try uninstalling the updates and see if the previous version works but PLEASE HELP ME OUT

Go to Settings, Voice input and output. Select Pico TTS, but u must have it downloaded from the Market. This is what I had to do and I was having the same exact problem. Hope this helps.

OK, so it might be me but what does installing this to my HTC Desire do?
Also, I've got google maps installed and have downloaded "Nav Launcher" for it to try and get the spoken nav working, but it's greyed out... I've seen the video of the guy speaking an address and google maps then navigates to it... I'm all confused
It's the engine for converting text to speech.
I installed this from the market and now my navigation voice isn't working.

Apps requiring a microphone?

Now that we see that an external microphone will work on the Fire, we can start testing apps that require a mic. I'm not a Google Voice or Skype user, so someone with those accounts needs to try them on the Fire.
I did install Vlingo, a speech-to-text app, and tried it. When I speak into it, I get the message "An unexpected server error occurred. Please try again." I'm connecting through the same wifi network that my smartphone is, and Vlingo is working fine on the phone. I can't see why it doesnt work on the Fire...
Now I just installed a speech-to-text app called (appropriately) Speech To Text. When I try it, I get "Runtime Error - No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.speech.action.RECOGNIZE_SPEECH (has extras)}", with a button to End Application.
Both probally need google search and voice search to work. voice search is the backbone for most of the speech recognition apps out there, hence the no activity error.

I'm sure you're right. Up to now I haven't seen the need to root because I could live without the Google apps on it, but now I may want to.
Google Voice Search (com.google.android.voicesearch-1.apk) installed for me but gives an Audio Problem error and Google Search (GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk) doesn't want to install. Looks like there's a little more work to be done so you might not want to root just yet if this is all you were going to do.

Thanks for the heads up. At this point, that would be the only reason I would root, but if it won't work, I'll wait.

[Q] [Solved] Voice guidance problem in Google Maps Navigation

I have problem with voice guidance of Google navigation. I have tested it with 2 different text-to-speech outputs. First is Google Text-to-speech Engine(English) and second is SVOX TTS(Finnish). Navigation works normally when TTS output and phone's default language are different. Of course voice guidance in this case is not working. When both languages are same(like they should) I can heard guidance, but then applicaton stops immediately after voice guidance starts.
Error message says: "Unfortunately, Maps has stopped."
Does anyone have same problem? Solution for this problem?
I am using HTC Sensation stock ICS (4.0.3) and Sense 3.6
Google maps version 6.4.0 (6.3.0 had same problem)

Ok here is szihs version ported to non_rooted phone. The application seems to have been changed a bit since the previous version. I didn't test it much, but it seems to work correctly. If you have ownhere's version installed you need to uninstall it first.

ICS, or Maps, hates TTS?

I've tried several different TTS apps, and they either don't work at all in Google Navigation, or it's just repeating, "Make a U-turn at Goldenrod Court" at every turn. This happens on both my Amaze and A200 with ICS. I realize some apps are incompatible with ICS, but SVOX, Pico, Ivona, Google TTS... All of them do this. Is it just me?

I am trying to build a TTS wrapper for my app as a way to get TTS request into the app, then I send them to the chosen "real" engine. I've noticed that when getting directions from Google Nav, I get ALL the directions for the whole trip at one time...one after another.
Normally it gives one instruction, then you drive a while and it will give another instruction at an important part of the trip. Instead, I get instruction 1 through the end all at the beginning!
u can use SYGIC maps in place of google maps , then have voice turn by turn support n are also offline maps , one time download .... but yea they are paid ..

Uninstall google now? Reinstall ICS voice recognizer? Eva voice assistant issue

Running latest synergy at the moment but same problem happened with beans 9 and prior. Basically eva voice assistant works for a while and then it never responds to any command, even though i can see it here me it never proccesses what I say. Only way to get it working is uninstall, delete eva folder, then reinstall. I am in contact with developer but i suspect google now may be causing it, even tho google now voice search hears me fine and responds. Is there a way to uninstall google now and go back to ICS voice search and voice recignizer?

Have you figured this out any further? I'm on Synergy but I think it's definitely the Google Search engine and perhaps changes with Jelly Bean. I really wanted to explore voice assistants more, but I don't think I'd be willing to give up Google Now and restored local search etc
I am currently using cm10 but did this on cleanrom and synergy. The fix i am using is to search the market for voice search app to install the pre jellybean voice search. Then in language and input I select voice recognizer, which shows google twice. I select the 2nd one. I then choose voice search to confirm the background is black, which means ics voice search is selected. Using the market voice search eva has been working fine. Peter, the author of eva, said he released an update today that should have eva work with jellybean voice search, but it didnt work for me, so i am continuing with ics voice search from market.
With my workaround if you want to use google now and eva i assume you would have to switch the voice recognizer each time you wanna use one or the other. If you use eva or wanna try it the new version is 2.34, free 30 day trial version called eva intern. The author said it should work so try it with yours and see.
Thanks, I'll give the new build a try. I see what you're saying with the workaround but I'd rather just use Google Now and S Voice without fussing with it. Nice of the developers to work with the issue.
