I have the Steel Blue theme for CM7 based roms installed. I would like to change the battery indicator pngs. Nothing will change except for the color of each png, which I have already prepared.
The steel blue theme doesn't install anything in /system/app...upon downloading from Market, it installs an apk in /data/app....then you normall go into Theme Chooser, and select the theme.
So I pulled that file (com.teamcarbon.steelblue-1.apk), and used apk manager to decompile it...then I swapped out the png's and recompiled it, and then created a signed apk.
When I pushed it back into /data/app, it won't install, and it doesn't appear in Theme Chooser. However, then I pushed it into /system/app instead. It still wouldn't install by clicking on it, but it did appear in Theme Chooser. And upon applying it in Theme Chooser, everythign works.
Can someone explain this to me? Why did it work when I put it in /system/app instead of where I pulled it from in the first place, which was /data/app?
I'm happy that I got it to work somehow, but I'm curious what happened.
edit: I was also successful swappign out the settings icons, as well as the wi-fi calling notification icons

well, ive downloaded ninjamorph and tried doing that transparent background on notification bar.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7597467&postcount=1
did this and other forums i could find.
first i did ninjamorph and uploaded the transparent background i made, finish the project and it force closes as soon as it gets done and it doesn't reboot automatically. so i manually reboot and background changes to black and not transparent. i've done services.jar script change, adb push etc. did clockwork reboot no look. i've done and search everywhere and im exhausted and can't find the answer and oh yea i've also done
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/47283-release-xultimate.html
this......
well, not i can't revert back to the original background color. i've downloaded the stock framework and service jar and nothing changes. hard reset, wipe, everything i could think of but nothing seems to freaking change the service jar or back to stock.
kinda dig my own hole and need help thx in advance
I can upload the transparent wallpaper mod when I get home for you.
In this thread ill show you how to make that notification bar transparent.
1. take the png's ive attached to this post and place them on your SD card in the folder entitled "android themes"
take note of these file names.
2.open ninjamorph select new project
navigate through: system/framework/framework-res.apk. it will then extract all the files.
then navigate through res/drawable-hdpi.
scroll down to "status_bar_background.png" click it and change it out with the "status_bar_background.png" you placed on your SD card that has the exact same file name....then continue to replace the other 6 png's the same way.
If one of the existing png's in your framework does not match the one Ive provided (for example the existing file on your phone ends in " .9 " ) then rename it to match...not all themes are exactly the same.
3. when your done replacing all 7 png's press the blue back button in ninjamorph, select finish project, select the one that says "framework-resapk"
then just keep clicking "yes" ("yes/yes/ok/yes") then ninjamorph will tell you "ALL DONE!" and your phone will automatically reboot.
this will work fine with "launcher 2" and will most likley work with whatever default launcher that came with whatever ROM you mught be using. BUT...
...!!! when using this mod with ADW launcher, launcher pro
or any home replacement app you will need to use a live wallpaper (I use "shake em all" and then just set my own wallpaper) if you want the notification bar to stay transparent. the pulldown will allways be transparent though. (you can also use a live wallpaper called "multiple wallpapers" )

Do you have to root? Stock launchers work? Very nice work.

it does look good.
Will this work with gummyjar 2.5?
Root is required to run ninjamorph. This will work on any ROM. Be sure to put pngs in Android Theme folder (imperative). Works best with stock launchers.
update: tried my LWP again and this time it worked. will update after a few re-boots if it changes back to black, but otherwise it worked this time.
been trying to get this to work but the best I can get is my lock screen to work, but when I unlock to any other home screen or if I go to my app drawer, just a black status bar.
I am running Apex 1.3.1, and additionally have changed out my status bar icons. so not sure if that has anything to do with it, does anyone have any thought on that?
thanks for any thoughts/responses.

ps. a lot of my .png's in framwork-res.apk are 9.png's if that matters, and to get to at least where I am (running and clear status bar in lock screen only) I have replaced those with the new ones. When I finish the project in ninja and reboot, it force closes once, I pull the battery and it reboots. Like I say, after that I reboot after the fc and it loads without an error, but does not give me a full transparent status bar.
thanks again for looking and any help.

I was able to navigate to the folder irregardless of location. Metamorph forces you to use Android Theme folder.
I was able to get this to work but as stated in op you must have a lwp for it to work. I thought this would be acceptable but can't find a lwp that doesn't suck battery, and look decent. I purchased the light grid pro and am ok with it. Shakem up wouldnt display my wallpapers right.
Is there no way to get it to work with a static wallpaper? And in the browser its white. Though it could be transparent and white behind it.
Edit: the browser notification bar is white. Where to change? Is possible?

UPDATED.....
some people brought to my attention that, on other themes, some of the png's end in " .9 " so if you run in to a png on your existing framework that does not match the one ive attched to the OP just rename it to match (usually you will just need to add/remove " .9 ")
so i updated the attached files and added a read me to both zips.
Enjoy!

I'm aware of the "grayish white" when in certain apps....to tell you the truth I havent even tried to fix it. sounds like a good thing to try out right now.
shake em all loads my wallpapers just fine.....hmmm,,,you can try "multiple wallpapers"...and see if you like that..i was thinking about making my own live wallpaper that is just blank as can be and doesnt use up memory/battery..and you bet ill post it up in here if i can ever get that accomplished.

you need to rename the png's i provided to match your " .9 " png's..
if you didnt do this im willing to bet thats why ninjamorph force closed and your having issues....try renaming them and going back through to replace.
btw i updated the attached files in the OP.
there are now 2 versions and i added more png's
if you cant remember wich ones were " .9 " then.....
go into...sdcard/android themes/backup/ and youll see a backup of your framework, you can load this backup and start over if necessary.
This will only work on stock launcher and launcher2 with static wallpaper. It seems others have had success using Zeam launcher as well.
I have launcher pro. I've tried both live wallpapers...no success.
How do I change the notifications text to white? I am using a black/glass status bar background and the text isn't readable (black on black)
Hey,
But can you back up it with out the back up of the rom?
I meant if i want to reverse it - can i reverse only what i have done and not to restore the whole ROM?
so ive attempted to do this exactly as your instructions show something like 6 times... nothing is working for me except the transparent drop down menu. also, ive noticed in my /drawable-hdpi folder, i dont have a status_bar_close_on.png to replace your image with in the first place. im running 2.3.3 and im not running a downloaded rom or anything ( i think?) im still using stock everything as far as theming goes.
help!?!??!?!
I just installed the MIUI Gingerbread ROM and have been playing around with it. It started out that the Signal and 3g icons were white and the all of a sudden changed to green. Green does not go with the theme I am trying to create and can't figure out what changed to make them go green. Any know how I can get them blue or back to white.
They change green when you have a direct connection to Google's servers. It's a Gingerbread feature.
If you're creating a theme, I assume you're familiar with the MIUI theme system. The icons you need to change are in the SystemUI apk (com.android.systemui). You need to change the stat_sys_data_ files, the stat_sys_signal_ files and the stat_sys_wifi_signal_ files to whatever colors will match your theme.
If you just want the stock icons to be a different color, either use photoshop or gimp to adjust the colors.
If you want them to stay white, just copy over all the "fully" pngs with the corresponding file without "fully" in the file name.
Thanks a lot I finally was able to get them to blue to match everything else!
Quick question:
I just installed the Blue Steel theme for CM7 on my N1. Everything looks awesome except that all my transparent metamorphed widgets are no longer transparent. When I try to re metamorph them, they seem to work, as metamorph spits back no errors, but when I restart, they didn't take. Any suggestions?
Push/overwrite the widget apks overwriting whatever you have with modded versions.
OK but...
Ok, but my theme has blue in the music widget. If I push my old transparent music apk I won't have the blue theme. I guess my metamorphs just aren't compatible with the themed apks?
Here is my Dark X2 theme. The theme is integrated into my KangVIP rom and also included in Simply International but I thought I'd share it with you so you can use it even if you're on stock. Enjoy!

Changelogs:
7-30-16: Fixed text not visible in Settings--->Brightness. Reverted back to stock framework-res for better compatibility. Added semi-transparent bubbles for stock messaging app instead of squares
8-02-16: Fixed white on white text in Apps
I have problems with text not visible in Settings with this theme in your Kangvip 211 build 7/2716.
How do I update this theme please?
I tried putting your latest hwt file into internal/HWTheme folder but I dont see the theme in the theme app to apply. Any ideas?
the theme works great for me.maybe you need to reboot
Thanks. Had rebooted, but theme still not visible in Theme app.

Because there is already the original theme in system/theme. Remove the Dark X2 in system/theme and replace it with the new one. Change the permissions (0755) then open up theme manager and apply it.
Thank you for your assistance. Moved new Dark X2.hwt into system/themes, but I dont see Dark X2 in theme manager. Rebooting made no difference.
I see Dark X2.hwt and 19 other hwt files in system/themes but only 7 appear in theme manager (mine).
Progress of sorts...
I run my X2 strictly landscape.
Switching to portrait, your theme is listed in theme app - applying it, everything looks good.
Switching into landscape, theme dissappears from theme app - settings are white on white.
Explains difficulties I had trying to configure 7/27/16 ROM dirty install (in landscape).
Is your theme designed to run landscape?
In theme manager I have dark x2 and a dark x2 metal..
