I have not seen this touched in entirety so far, if it is please direct me there. But I wanted to upgrade to the fresh baseband and then go back to Trigger2X w/ Faux Kernel. I assume just revert back to stock in it's entirety, upgrade using OTA or update tool, then NVflash CWR back on and go from there? Seems simple enough but really just wanted to see if anyone had issues with returning back to CWR and restoring a Nandroid. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
I did this and no problems at all

I've tried more than twice now, and I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't recover my backup. Last night for example, wanted to try another rom, a 2.3.4, I was quite happy with my mosaic setup, as usual, and I was running xcal's 2.0 kernel without issue so I backed up through cwm 3. Flash got me into a bootloop so I tried to recover the nandroid but it wasn't the right one. I chose the right date but the b/u was the rom that failed, the bootup screen. So I had to start from scratch to get the setup I liked. Of course when I tried to flash the new rom there were different kernels etc. But that shouldn't matter should it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks ahead of time.

Do you're trying to restore a 2.3.3 backup (Mosaic) to a 2.3.4 rom?
*phone sig* If you're not on Gingerbread you should be flogged! *
Uh, no. you misunderstood.

Those back ups are not to use to recover with. Those are to restore your set up and stuff, you flash the rom it was backed up from THEN restore and its like you never flashed the the other rom.

Thanks studacris, yeah, tried that and got an error message and couldn't restore. Sorry I didn't take the message down, I'll try again if it happens again, thanks.

Okay So I saw rom manager mentioned alot here so I figured it was something I Should have so I went and got it. Now I have figured out some of it on my own it looks like it is a interface to CWM wich is cool. The first option is flash clockwork recovery so is that the stock gingerbread or froyo so I can send the phone back to TMO? also I downloaded CM7 and Am going to try it out but right now I have stock GB with root from xboarders I backed that one up so I now have my original from before I touched the phone and my current one. So if I dont like cm7 event though I am sure Iwill do I just restore my current backup and that will put me back on xboarders with the addons that I downloaded like green signal fix and the others? or do I have to reflash it and start over? Also if I restore my original from before I rooted thr phone with xboarders will that unroot? Sorry for all the questions but I need to know what I am doing so I dont brick the phone. thanks alot

I flashed the Octane ROM and now have the rainbow screen. I am told I need to flash a Gingerbread bootloader but I cant figure out a 100% sure way of doing this. I have read I also need some sort of kernel just not sure what one. All I did to the phone so far was get clockwork recovery working and flash the Octane ROM. Sorry for the noobish question but I am completely new to these Samsungs and theyre a little more involved than the HTC's I have previously worked with.

I'm guessing you're coming from Froyo. You should check out the SGS 4G Bible here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554. Look under ODIN ROMs and install Chadster's KG4 ROM (last one listed). That's the first GB ROM to have the bootloaders on it. After that, you should be able to drop whatever other GB ROM you want on it.

Excellent thank you! Could I backup the current ROM in clockwork recovery, flash Chadster's KG4 then just restore my backup? Or would that also restore my old bootloader? The phone is my girlfriends and she just got it setup the way she likes and I would hate for her to have to do it all over again. Shes not as patient as I am when it comes to this kinda stuff.
I believe that would be ok

No worries. Glad to help. Did it all work?
If you're coming from Froyo, DO NOT advanced restore your data on a GB ROM!
That will cause multiple issues on your phone. One of them being no incoming phone calls.
In order to move from Froyo to GB, your only option is to use Titanium Backup. Backup all user apps and data and restore them when you're on GB.
GB to GB is fine, but you must flash the Bali kernel (yes, it is a Froyo kernel) to perform an advanced data restore. You must be sure to flash the kernel back to a GB kernel afterwards. If not, you will be in a boot loop.
As for keeping HOMESCREEN settings and such, unless if your girlfriend has a custom launcher on, like ADW or LauncherPro, you will have to manually set up everything again.
In terms of PHONE settings, you'll have to set up everything again.
I hope you see this post before flashing, or else you'll have to reflash everything for your girlfriend!

I assume by advanced restore you mean some sort of restoring through Clockwork Recovery?
I only use Titanium Backup for backup and restore of apps. So backing up the apps on Froyo and restoring them on the GB ROM through Titanium is fine correct? I hope so cause I have already done this once lol.
She does use ADW EX so restoring that wont be an issue.
So If I just backup all the apps with Titanium, then flash the ROM+Bootloader mentioned above, then restore the apps with Titanium Backup it should be fine?
I assume doing this would not have changed the kernel at all. Should I flash some sort of GB kernel while im at it?
I really appreciate all your guys help on this one. Im more nervous about doing this stuff cause the phone isnt mine lol. If it were mine I would be flashing all day long! But in this case I want to get it right the first time.
Just an update. I did the above and it fixed up the rainbow screen. Thank you all for your help. I couldnt have done it without you guys. GF is now happy with her newly updated Octane rom

That's great! Glad to hear we could help. Best of luck!
My maps gps lock got totally f*cked by synergy 1.7 so it was suggested to go back to stock and reroot since flashing new rom from clean wipe did not work.
A lot of links and methods are out of date, so I was wondering what the best way to get back to stock at this point.
I have the latest odin on my computer, I guess I'm looking for the most recent or most reliable stock image to flash.
Thanks

I think a lot of people recommend the root66 stock..... But I'd try noSympathy's image

I'm rooting immediately after so whatever is a proven version will make me happy

They're both rooted so no need to do after. Both are tried and true, noSympathy's is based off the last OTA but some people like to start from scratch so that would be root66.

My main reason to flash stock was I was told that would be the only way to restore my faulty gps lock.
Do you think flashing a stock rooted image would do the same for me? Or should I flash unrooted image then start fresh? Time is not a concern, im patient

Flash back to stock then root. Click link in sig.
i tried this......still having the same issue, switched from CM10 back to stock and had issues with my GPS being way off, like by 3300 meters off haha.....so flashed back to stock, still had the issue, so i used the rooted stock image and flashed that and i'm still off by about over 2k meters.....don't use my navigation or maps all that much but when i do need it i'll have a bit of an issue lol
I had issues with my gps for a few days. If was real flaky but got better with synergy 1.5. I have since move to 1.6 with a fresh install and am still okay. Check out a app called gps status. See if you can see any gps satellites. Maybe in that app clear your agps state in tools. Then if that doesn't work try to download gps assistance with the same app in the same settings. Make sure your out side for this stuff with your gps. It's probably not gonna hit ya sitting on the couch.

I used the stock image from here:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SCH-I535
and used this method for rooting:

my gps doesnt work at all
After Odin back to stock, non rooted image my GPS is fixed.
Now on CM10, loving it. Not sure if I'll ever try synergy again bc of that nightmare situation.
I use my gps pretty much all day. I needz it

New AOKP JB issue with radio
Well I am trying to get something fixed and I am going through a complete restore to do this.
But just so you are aware the new AOKP JB release will kill your data. I learned a hard lesson with this when trying to recover and nandroid back to my previous rom. It killed my data completely and would not allow me to do anything with data in any rom. I used the root66 stock rom in hopes it would work, and that didnt even solve the issue.
Right now I am restoring a factory image through kies and seeing if that will do what I need. If it does, I am sticking with stock roms for awhile until AOSP roms have more time to develope with less bugs.

Well it turns out I still had my imei present on my phone and even after a factory reset like I did wit kies it still didnt work. Initially I wasnt able to get past the activation screen on the root66 rom, but I was able to with the stock factory image from kies in which case this allowed me to follow the steps in this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838791
Once I did that my phone rebooted and everything came back as it was never gone, well except for all of my data on the internal sd card, but that is to be expected.
After 2 hours of going through numerous steps I finally found a fix, mind you not the most simple of fixes, but a fix none the less.
I think I am just going to stay stock for awhile like I mentioned and wait for the OTA that comes out in 2014 lol, unless in review of AOSP roms the issues present now are gone after sometime.
Tks
Nice. Tks
Gps works like a champ on beans!
Gps seems to work substantially better on cm10 than on stock....ran the GPS test and i locked onto 14/19 satellites.
Beamed via NFC through the local store to the internet from my SGS3.
So here's the deal, I'm trying to restore my stock rooted 2.3.4 GB ROM. Eaglesblood is cool and all, but as of yesterday it started doing a bunch of sketchy stuff. I can't even connect to my t-mobile wireless network anymore. Just doesn't work. I also need wi-fi calling and video recording, so it's time for me to leave ICS (after a week or so lol). So I did a full wipe, formatted the system, cache and data. Went to backup/restore chose restore and chose the backup I made the very first day that I rooted my phone. It starts checking the MD5 sums....after about a minute I get an error saying "MD5 SUM MISMATCH." How do I fix this? I'm trapped in ICS and want back to GB please someone help free me. So after all of that I had no choice but to reflash eaglesblood and now I'm at where I started.
There's an option in cwm under advanced to toggle off md5 check, I think. That may work. But if the md5 is different than before it means something changed in your backup so it may not work.
If you're transferring stuff over usb a lot it gets messed up, I always have issues with that. I use airdroid to transfer files between pc and phone.
You gotta be kidding me......I transferred the back up to my PC to save room on my phone. I put it back into my phone yesterday because I knew I was probably going to use it today. So you're telling me there is no way for me to get back to my 2.3.4 stock rooted ROM because I transferred the file over a USB cable?

Just flash Burom or kewes 2.3.4 rooted stock.
Ive had issues with backups getting corrupted with CWM, not sure why, and has never happened with TWRP.

I don't get it...this ROM was working GREAT the first week I had it. I was warned about all the errors that ICS/JB roms have on this device but during the first week of application I thought everybody was nuts......now everything screwed more than ever. I've always wanted to try hellfire CM7...might just flash that instead what the hell
