[Q] Ringtone maker app that includes fading? - Verizon Droid Charge

Subject says it all. Looking for a ringtone maker app that includes fading in and out. I like my tones to start low and get louder. It's just my thing

That might be outside the scope of a simple app and you may need to move up to an actual ringtone maker program

I'm not sure what's out there for the phone, but I use Audacity on my computer to create all of my ringtones. It works great at trimming my songs/sounds down to ringtone length, and also has many effects that can be used (including fade in). Best of all, it's free.

Yep. Audacity w/ LAME codec. You can just pop your finalized ringtone into a certain folder in your SD card and it will show up in your tones in the next reboot. Sdcard/media/Ringtones or sdcard/media/Notifications

[Resolved] A decent ringtone app!

Ok so I use ringdroid and create my own tones no problem.. it saves them to the correct media folder so they won't show up in my music app.. however my girl doesn't want to go that route and would rather just download premade tones.. problem is I haven't found an app that'll save the tones in the proper folder therefore mixing her full tracks music with her ringtones.. any ideas?

Just find a audio ripping program to make them.
Zedge is a pretty good app for this.
Only problem with zedge is the way the categories are set up.. she's likes the top 100 for each genre feature that other apps have.. I guess its time I look into developing my own app.. lol

Question about possibility of new ringtones.

Would it be possible to have a ringtone or even a start up sound that says Droid? Like a robotic type?

Of course. Any mp3 can be used as a ringtone or startup sound.
Ringtone is especially easy as you can simply select it to be your ringtone from your music player.
Just copy the mp3 into the music folder on your sd card.
Startup sound is easy too, but you need to either edit a ROM zip file or use ADB commands to get it to the right place.
Is this something I could do? Or ask someone with more knowledge than I? If so please point me in the right direction.

To change the startup tone you'll need to be S-OFF/rooted as you have to change the android_audio.mp3 in /system/customize/resource to something else (but keeping the file name the same)
Okay sounds easy enough now the next step is producing the sound to say Drrroooid.. Is there a program i can do this with?
Here ya go. How about the startup sound, and boot animation.
http://androidcommunity.com/download-the-droid-razr-boot-animation-and-sound-files-now-20111103/
They are easy to instal, I have both working on my Sensation, Google Droid live wallpaper for the full experience, there are also clearer instructions on how to get it working, I recommend using Root Explorer.

Miui ringtone problem work around found

Ok been messing around trying to get a ringtone to work for a while know and I found a rather odd way to get one working. Ok so first you will need to go to settings - programs - calls and then turn off third party. Not sure why off and not on but whatever. Now download full screen caller Id from market. You need to go into settings - text to speech and make sure you select for it to be used when in silent and vibrate. I then setup to have a video ringtone. Now you need to press down on volume till ringer is off and then if done right you should now have a ringtone when you get a call. I know its not the best work around but figured I would share till someone has something better.
You should have posted this in the general section.

Crap sorry man wasn't sure were to put it but I guess that makes the most sense now lol.
Actually you should have posted this in the MIUI thread in Q&A but who cares. Thanks for the workaround. Hopefully will see a working kernel for this bad boy to make workarounds absolete.
I mean absolutely no offense to OP but can anyone using the miui rom confirm this? Got sweet child of mine set up to my liking and am reluctant to flash another rom for an unconfirmed work around. Been wanting miui for awhile but, really don't want to bother with flashing it just to have to flash back. Been there, done that already. Thanks.

I agree with booboo773, last time someone said they found a work around I flashed back to MIUI and it didn't work. I would like some additional confirmation on this before flashing back from Sweet Child Of Mine, so if anyone else can confirm this please let us know. Thanks!
I just flashed miui last night to try to find a workaround as well.. will post feedback in a bit
Edit
ok well i used your idea and found an easier way. Theres an app called Video Caller ID (free).
its much easier to set up. and your right about the Third Party option in call settings.
Also, i think the video should be in .mp4 format. i only have .3gp and .mp4 to test, and .3gp didnt work so..
Another thing is setting volumes in Settings-Personal-Sound-All Volume.
I turned Call volume all the way down, and the Media all the way up.
I can stop missing calls now and enjoy a stupid fast ROM!

My phone is not on silent mode. I just turn the call volume down, everything else up. Most importantly the media volume, as Video Caller ID uses the Media volume.

I'm using mp4. An easy way to make a tone is to download with tubemate and you can trim with vidtrim both apps are free in the market.
Weird, video caller id won't load any video, it sees them in mp4 format but when I click on the "make default" slider and go to select a video the app won't load it as a default. ....I do get other text to speech caller id aps to work.

[Q] Calendar notification sound reverts to default

Just like the title says, I set a custom sound for calendar notifications, but it reverts back to default as soon as I leave the calenar app. I go back, and the sound for notifications is not the one I previously set. Is it just my phone or is it like that for everybody?

A little more info may help, are you stock, roooted, custom ROM?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Stock, never been rooted. I placed sounds in "notification" folder on the phone, not on SD card. I can see them when I set the sound for calendar, and I can hear them of course. But if I choose any of my own sounds, as soon as I leave the app and go back, it shows the default sound again.
I can, however, change to one of the Samsung sounds successfully.
My sounds are fine, they worked on my Rezound, and work on my Galaxy Tab.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Seems like irs a problem with your tones, or the storage location since you can use the stock tones. I would just use zedge from Google play and download a new tone and see if it works.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
See, that's why I specifically said the tones are fine. They worked on Rezound, they work on my Tab now. I just specifically checked again, I can set them for text message notifications, alarms, ringtone, anything, but calendar. Same tones. It's a problem with the calendar app. Same tone set fot txt works like a charm. But not for calendar.

Same issue here, it's the same thing with the timer in the clock app. Definitely a bug that has not been addressed. Pretty annoying.
Sent from my VZW GS3 running Synergy/Trinity/Dark Horse Rises
I knew they were good on your other phones, but maybe the s3 didn't like then. But if they can be used as other times that's not the case. I would really try zedge not sure were it saved then but mine stick just tested it.

I'd rather not install another app that that I don't really need. Maybe there's a fix to this problem some other way?

I think the point is to test with an app that is known to work - for all we know, it might be a permissions issue with the files you copied, for example. Without direct knowledge of why the problem is happening, testing with a known quantity might help eliminate one set of possibilities and hone in on the problem-causing element.
The app can always be uninstalled, as well.
Another test might be to place your tones on a SD card (if you have one), which should have no access issues for any stock app.

That's actually my point, test the apps download. Then look at were they are saved and the permissions. Then simply put your files in there with the same permissions.

Yeah, it does smack of a permissions issue on its face, doesn't it?
Could be a different bug in the app, but maybe the background process is having an access problem so reverts back to the default tone.
- ooofest
Ok, I'll test them on SD card and report back. However, if I can set the same tone for txt, for example, it doesn't seem to me like a permission issue.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I just tested and checked permissions (which differ in a manner that shouldn't matter from the ICS notification files, I believe), among other things. I wasn't able to see where I could select a custom ringtone for the new event, though had copied them over to various directories, but did select a custom sound for all calendar events. It defaulted to the standard tone.
Then, I saw this thread that explains the issue and offers a potential workaround/fix:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ncluded-ringtones-anyone-using-their-own.html
- ooofest
Ok, I knew it wasn't a permission or a tone issue. It's a glitch with this thing. Very annoying. I guess all we can do is deal with it, huh? Calendar like that is pretty useless. I never hear any reminders. :banghead:
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I use the On Time notification sound, which has been good for me. I have rather sensitive hearing, admittedly.
The link I offered explained that a paid app in Play can provide different ringtone options, repeating notifications, popups, etc. for the Calendar:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...Zvb2JhcnNvZnQuY2FsZW5kYXJldmVudHJlbWluZGVyIl0
- ooofest
Yes, yes, I've read that. But couldn't it just work like every other phone (I assume)? Paying for some tiny feature like this, because it's a stupid bug, just doesn't sound very nice.
On second thought, if there's an app that can do that without root permission, shouldn't we be able to accomplish the same without that app?

Well, this whole thing is making me consider re-rooting my phone, so that I can copy the custom tones to the proper directory, update their permissions to match the other tone files and see if that makes a difference. Maybe the Calendar app is hardcoded to use tones in that subdirectory only, but the selection UI screen is coded differently, allowing any tones to be selected.
I feel that if I select a tone in Notifications or a similar location, the Calendar app goes back to its default of the "On Time" tone, that is a clue to where it might be looking for a tone file when an event goes off. Or not, we'll see.
- ooofest
Well, sure it will work if you root it. But I still think we can make it work without root, if some app can get it done for unrooted phones.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I'm guessing that app hooks into calendar events, but that involves writing code.
This works for me:
1. Root your phone. The easiest way I've found is located here.
2. Using Root Explorer (or similar file management app that has been granted SuperUser privileges after rooting) Move or Copy your notification sound file(s) to:
/system/media/audio/notifications/
I changed the permissions to rw-r--r-- for the moved files, but it turns out their default permissions also worked fine.
3. Back in the Calendar app, select your moved/copied notification ringtone from the list.
4. Unroot your phone, if desired.
Doing the above allowed me to use custom tones for the Calendar notifications - I tested with .ogg files, but perhaps .mp3 or others may also work.
(At first, it seemed a side-effect caused loss of system sounds, but it turned out I somehow turned the System sound volume to 0 through some fumble fingering.)
So, no side-effects and I'm back to being stock, unrooted. Whole process took less than 10 minutes with testing.

Ringtone help

I've given myself a headache over this. I have a custom ringtone I want to use as a notification tone. Easy enough, put it in the folder media/ringtone/notifications. Don't show up. I do a reboot, still no dice. There is no + like in phone call ringtones to add a new one. I'm lost haha. Any help? Seems so simple, just a new ringtone!!
Sent from the best d*** phone I've ever used
Create a folder in Memory SD card with ES File Manager.
Open File manager go to the SD card, and create new folder named as “media“(without quotes).
And open the media folder, and create another new folder named as “audio“.
Then open the audio folder and again create 2 new folders. One is “notifications” and another one is “ringtones“.
It must be in this path- SDcard> media> audio> notifications
Move the tone that you want to set as notification ringtone to the notifications folder.
You can also use the ringtones folder to set the ringtones.
After that, go to Settings> Sound> Notification Ringtone.
Now you can see the custom tone that you moved earlier to the notifications folder.
If the moved tone is not there, then restart your phone. Then check the ringtones settings. It might work. Has for me.

Viper will not let me change it. Even tried renaming it to notification already there. I think it is a size issue. Maybe someone can shed some light on this because I have become very curious but do not have the time at the moment to investigate further.

I tried it with Zedge and Ring Droid on Viper. As long as you download tone it will show up. But if you put it in folder manually, it will not show. Uninstalled because Viper doesn't like android apps. No problem on Chameleon.
