Hi Community,
I want to make phone calls with my Transformer TF101G. Can any crack tell me what is needed to make this possible ?

Impossible, unless you use VOIP like Google Voice, and many other VOIP services.
No gsm hardware on board.
I use GrooveIP to make calls over wifi with the TF. It use a Google voice number
The only way I know to make calls with the transformer is to get a google voice account and GrooveIP from the market. It will allow you to make call but over WiFi.
I wish I could pair my Android phone to my Transformer and receive calls and text messages like I now can with my HP Touchpad.

There is an app its calld Autotether its the best app ive downloaded sice fooling with android. it allows you to use your mobiles data wirelessly with your transformer. When the transformer screen is on your data will turn on on your phone automatically. when you turn the transformer seen of the data disconnects and turns itself off on your phone. you never have to take it out or touch it once you set it up!!!!! totally worth a look
Thanks a lot for the answers. What a pitty. The best pad on earth and no gsm phone calls possible because google voice isn't available in all countrys (ex: Germany).

Trying out GrooveIP.
chevyrida,
May look at that option as well.
Really appreciate the info on all.
I want to be able to do the same thing. Have you had any luck with this? I can send and receive messages via GSM with the TF101G.

I think that it's pretty clear you need to actually pay attention to what you're reading rather than trying to talk down to people. Cuz in doing so, you've made yourself look like a right knob mate.
Sorry wrote in the wrong area looking for something else

On TF101 there is no GSM BUT on TF101G there is. I can send SMS MMS with no problem. I tries to get the ICS phone apk from galaxy nexus but I have an error during installation on the TF101G. The error is telling me that the app is already installed but with another pattern. I wonder what is the meaning of this and how I can see and/or uninstall the app that is on the TF101G and that I can't use as it is kind of hidden by default.
Is there someone with an idea for this issue that may solve this thread?
i found Phone.apk on \system\app directory, tapped on it but i receive this message: "system application. Overwrite anyway?"
thats because the partition where that file is in, is read-only.
i tried to unmount it and remount it as writeable, so i would be able to overwrite the phone.apk thingie with the one that seems to allow SMS and calls. but no luck yet. maybe not even possible at all.
I have recently disconnected my Evo from Sprint and have been searching for alternative methods of calling...via wifi.
I have found a great program called grooove IP, it utalizes Google voice. To place outgoing calls and intergrates prefectly with the stock android dialler, and voice itself is prefect for sending and receiving SMS messages, are there any apps out there that that can allow free incoming calls via wifi, not Skype or anything like that, but where anyone can call me, even landlines where the 3rd party would only need a number and no apps to call me. I have searched but can't find anything on it.

Solved usind sipdroid from the market and a few sip websites as well as google voice. with a quick bit of research on google it was a fairly simple fix
Just got my Play today. White international version.
Im having terrible luck with google voice. I can't get to forward my calls through voice. I can't set it to receive texts through voice only. All I can do is revives calls when people call me. This is a bad issue. Does anyone else have any luck with Google voice? This could factor into a speedy return

"I can't get to forward my calls through voice." I'm not sure what you mean. You can't get it to take incoming calls to your Google Voice number and forward to your native number or you can't get it to take incoming calls top your native number and forward to Google Voice for voicemail? Mine pops up a dialog saying that it failed to forward native calls to GV voicemail but it actually works. Even if it didn't there's still a code I can dial in to do the same thing. Some carriers do not support it though. My boss could not use GV to forward his MetroPCS voicemail to. If you are saying that you want calls made to your native number to ring your GV number, that would not be a feature of GV. That would require you to set up forwarding through your carrier.
"I can't set it to receive texts through voice only." Uhh, it can't block texts sent to your native number. Block texting with your provider and tell people to forget your old non-GV number, then use the GV app to receive texts (setting it to also receive via native Messaging app will forward them to your mobile number as regular billable text messages despite the wording of the option). Forwarding native texts to GV is also something your carrier would have to do unless you could find some app to do it. It's not a GV function.
I should have been a bit more clear. Was in a flurry last night.
I've got most of it fixed. I ported my phone number to voice when I changed carriers. So everyone still calls that, then voice routes the call to any phone you want. When I call out from my Nexus, it goes through Google voice and on the other persons end it shows my Voice number instead of my "real" phone number.
My Xperia recieves calls fine now, but I cant get it to call out through Google voice. So people are seeing my "real" number instead of my voice number.
First world problems.

In the options for th GV app I set it to use GV for all outgoing calls. If I have a poor signal or weak WiFi, it causes it to hang on some intermediary screen before the dialer pops up so it is using Internet data for that step. If you can't enable the option, I'd check your cellular data settings.
Oh yeah. Ive got that set up. Been using voice for over a year now. Play just doesn't seem to like it as much.
In a completely unrelated note, this phone has amazing battery life

The only issue I have on my PLAY is the error saying that I can't enable voicemail forwarding even though it does enable it and forward just fine (the setting still shows that my carrier is handling VM). Even then, I think it's a problem with AT&T still having something configured wrong from my iPhone plan with VVM. Also, my battery would die in 8 hours of leaving the device locked on the stock AT&T ROM but, luckily, you never had to deal with that.
Got it all figured out.
Rooted the phone and removed a bunch of bloat. Phone is amazing now! I love you XDA.
Ok so Im not trying to change the subject, but does anyone get googles video chat to work without huge lag? I bought my girlfriend a Xperia play right after I got mines & installed video talk (via Video Talk Installer) & also the GTalkEnabler (to enable "Talk" over mobile data) & attempted both video & voice chat. My voice chat worked well over wifi & mobile, but the video chat was almost impossible due to lag on AT&Ts HSPA/Almost kinda 4g & not much better on wifi. With both XPlay's on wifi the video jumped frames and had green or pink pixel boxes & voice was lagged over 5 seconds. This makes the front cam & video chat useless. Whats the deal with this??
I have had both for a while. With Skype I am paying for Skype out and Have a Skype number. No doubt Google voice is cheaper. I find that the call quality is better with Skype and Google Voice more often then not has a longer delay which some times is annoying. I use both over 3G and Wifi, mostly on 3G because I am only using a data plan and use Skype for my phone calls.
What is your preference and why. Yes I know Skype has that annoying speaker phone toggle issue on GB but thankfully not on ICS.
If you use something else for voip please post about it.
I use sipdroid with GV.

I'm using google voice/Groove Ip for calls too. It's great for international calls to Africa which is so much cheaper compared to Skype. It's good to hear that call quality is great on Skype. It's fine on Groove Ip but the delay is annoying as hell.
Ok I'm going to Mexico soon and since we get charged for texting over there I would like to know if we can text using google voice via WiFi to avoid being charged or does google voice say where I'm at and I get charged? I have my tv linked up with sprint so sprint does know when I text using tv

Google Voice uses the internet to send text. Just make sure you use the Google Voice App and it should work over wifi not mobile network.
Have you ever tried it while ur not in the USA?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I have not, but I know I cant receive or send text messages when I dont have internet on phone. Therefore, it only works when connected to 3g/4g OR wifi. When sending text message through 3g/4g it goes through the internet not the carriers text messaging system. It should work the same if there is wifi in Mexico.
