Hi Everyone,
Quick background: I have a rooted HTC Sensation, currently running Leedroid 1.1 (since two days ago), Titanium Backup Pro ver. 3.9.0.1.
Earlier today I was looking at the traffic usage per app using the RadioOPT Traffic Monitor widget, and suspiciously enough, I noticed that Titanium Backup has utilized 32MB of data over wifi the past month (16MB upload, 15.9MB download). Even more surprisingly, for the current month it has a total of 25MB and it has just been three days in this new month. Since obviously the app itself has root rights and is basically used for backing up very sensitive data, I must admit I am a bit paranoid and upset.
I have the Dropbox sync stuff disabled (never even tried it), I checked the options and could not find anything which can somehow explain that traffic.
Before I get knee deep in stuff, setting up network sniffers on my router, has anyone seen such behavior or has any sort of reasonable explanation?
Thanks.
It's fine nothing to worry about, it always opens in the background for some reason.

That is not very comforting.
Why the hell does it need 30mb per month?

I am not sure, but it can't be helped.

I'm curious if there's an app that'll track\report data usage, and break it down between wifi and gprs\cellular data. I'm using my Inspire 4G on a network that doesn't provide me usage reporting, so I'm curious if "there's an app for that" hehe
Thanks!
PS - I'm rooted so if it's a root-needing app that's fine too.
This works great for me

Not an app, but if you want to know where your at for your data usage dial, *3282# and you will be sent a message with how much you have used.

If I was on ATT I would do that or just login to my online account... I have an unmetered data provider, who doesn't report back usage, so I just want a way to know for my own curiosity.
Thanks
Data counter widget by Roy Solberg is pretty cool.
keeps up with daily, weekly, and monthly data usage for wifi vs cellular.

Yeah I just got it... works great thanks!
Via XDA for Inspire "4G"
3g watchdog works great too
I've been using DroidStats for a couple days now. Seems to work well but I may try some others to compare.
I have the APk from my old Samsung galaxy tab. Its a widget that shows your live data usage. I'm not sure about the legality of posting the apk here if anyone wants it shoot me a pm. Seems to work well on any system I've tried it on.

The free "Traffic Monitor" widget from the market isn't bad. It shows wi-fi vs OTA traffic with upstream, downstream, and total data used. It also breaks the data down by individual apps and does have a built-in speedtest.

There is a monitor application that comes on the MIUI rom that does this. You could probably pull the apk from the rom if you don't want to use MIUI. Or it could be a market app for all I know.

Data counter widget.
Just got a question. Does anyone notice an unusual amount of data being used by the phone? I checked my verizon account and it said I have used 8.5 gigs of data. I still have 10 days left in my cycle. I can't see where its all coming from. I do stream music but there have been plenty of days I didn't stream anything. I have used it as a hotspot occasionally but didn't download anything. Just wondering if data is sent/received differently since its using LTE.

I used 5gigs this month when before I would average about 2-3gigs. Then again, I have also wiped my phone twice and let it reinstall everything. So that's like 4-500mb there. I definitely use this phone more than I did my other one.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
If you tethered a lot of data is used. You have to realize most computers use a lot of data. If you track your computer usage per month you'd be surprised on how much data it has used.

I'm only half way through this cycle and I've used 482MB. I'm almost always on WiFi. That's probably all slacker.
I used almost double what I averaged on my OG Droid. Good to see it wasn't just me.

faster does usually mean more when talking about internet I'm probably at 9 gigs with the number of phone wipes this month
Edit 10.2 gb with 4 days left
this is a lot more than my og droid because I used wifi a lot back then now with 4g using wifi is the slow way.
this is not a signature I type it in every time maybe sent from my phone or my computer
Are you using IMAP ? If you set up an IMAP email account, that can lead to heavy data usage.
On my Incredible I average about 4 - 6 GB a month. With 3 gmail accounts, htc facebook, peep, Htc linkedin, flickr, weather, and heavy browsing, no imap. Right now I am at 4.5 with 7 days left. I suppose faster refresh times would have more data.
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible using XDA App
I tether but only occassionally and probally for about 30 min to 1 hr. I have installed about 4 roms but didn't think that would take up that much data. Only imap I have is my gmail account. When I had an iphone, atrix, and Nokia n8 I had to really put in work to use 3-4 gigs of data. I did a lot more streaming and tethering on those. This phone tp me seems to just eat data. When I switched to verizon on launch day of the tbolt, I think I had 3 days of service and it said I used almost 1 gig of data. If I get throttled think I would have any recourse?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
With the amount of use I get from my ISP I was amazed when I kept track of my usage. I can easily pull 100GB a week of usage. If I break it down to 30 minute increments at times I can do 5-6GB. If I tethered that and my phone usage it may be in the 7-8GB range at times.

Man I'm at 42GB with a week left into the cycle. Nothing unusual with LTE speeds.
I wonder what VZW will do to all of us using more then 5GB of data on the LTE network. If they start to throttle I will probally leave after my contract is up depending on what the other carries offer. Glad I got in the 1 yr contract before they canned it!!!
The wording Verizon has. The cap fluctuates by users. Only the top 5% will be throttled.

Hit two gigs in one week on my sensation. Turned all syncs off. Hopefully it doesn't go as fast now. Fuuuuuuk

I normally use about 2-3 GN a month, lol my plan really is unlimited without the clause as i have had it for nearly two years. i never worry about how much i have used
Download an app that monitors what's eating all of your bandwidth. Odds are that it's some rogue app that you installed that just constantly trying to sync data. Are you watching a ton of youtube videos in HD or netflix movies? Both for long periods of time will zap your data.
Only one I've heard of is 3g watchdog. What ones tell you exactly what uses data? That would be awesome!

I think that's it. It should also show you real quick what's hogging your data. FB and twitter feeds, as well as news widgets, weather widgets, and other widgets that need a live feed will all zap your data pretty fast. If you're using a ton of widgets you may want to change their sync settings to see if that makes a difference.
Only see total amount of data....leme know how to see what apps are using data if possible. Thanks

I think you have to get the paid version of 3g watchdog to break down usage by program/service.

I don't understand the change in my bill...I just saw it when I logged in to my.t-mbile.com which I rarely ever do. And yes the Sensation pushes a lot of data so this kind of concerns me...

What is the difference between ANDRD UNL Web vs this Unlimited data - 5 GB of high-speed data included??? Does that mean I only get 5GB of internet usage max per month as opposed to not having a cap before? Why would they have to change this if this phone is also an android?

WTF? 2gb in a WEEK? Don't know what you are doing but sensation on its own is not capable of doing it even if you turn sync on every minute.

Agreed! I use about 2.5 Gb a week but that's with lots of Netflix/Youtube HQ streaming and downloading games via 4g.
-edit-
And that is with wifi NEVER on.
I have the same issue, Watchdog tells me its HTC using up the data as in Friends, calendar email etc

You can always call t-mo and ask for your old plan back.
If you couldn't get Watchdog for free

'Track your 3G' seems to do the same thing, but is free.
4G to 3G isnt that much of a big drop.
I used 40GB from my 2GB usage. Never noticed a difference when it dropped to 3G
I usually connect to WiFi whenever it is available. Haven't had an issue since.
Get bandwidth monitor from the market, it splits wifi/3g use and also lists individual apps usage.
For as long as T-mobile has allowed it, I've always had issues with it randomly disappearing then appearing regardless of what I do. Just to confirm modifying wasn't the cause, I completely restored my device to its out-of-box state to no avail. I've cleared the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled, installed different versions of the market, etc but still nothing
Then one day out of the blue, there it was. The very next day, gone. Not sure if this has been address before, and it's not a major issue, it simply annoys the hell out of me not knowing the cause! Anybody know why?
HTC Sensation
Very annoying!
Now as far as I know this happens if the app you are trying to purchase has to be paid to an account outside of the USA, but it seems like you were trying to purchase 4ext which I was easily able to pay with tmobile account

htc sensation safe mode
Hi everyone.I am new here and it's my first post.I bought htc sensation 4g from a relative who is a t mobile customer. I s-off it and installed a new os called RC MIX 3D,hoping it will boost my Internet connection speed and etc.but it didn't help that much.recently,I installed a lot of applications and today when I started my phone,It didn't start normally.finally my phone entered in to a safe mode.what shall I do.I appreciate any help. Thanks!
I noticed in ICS on my HP TouchPad in the settings there is a menu that allows you to track your data usage per app through a month cycle that you can set to match your cell phone plan cycle. This 2GB cap comes up quick some months and I'd like to track down any rogue data hogs.
Anyone using anything from the market to get this feature in GB? Found Onavo that looks solid, but though I'd solicit you guys for recommendations... that don't involve an ICS rom, tried recently but too many glitches in things I use often.
Thanks!
Pretty sure watchdog can get the job done if I remember right.,
