I recently changed to launcher pro, and got rid of most of my apps. I am on the 200mb a month plan, so I have to watch my data usage. Lately I've noticed that my 3g/g/edge icon is pretty steadily on and showing up and downstreams active.
So when I launch task killer, I notice that certain apps that I never use (nor do I have it on as a widget) such as samsungs "daily briefing" widget are always running. This didn't use to happen, but today alone i've used 8mb, despite making sure I didn't once actually use any data on purpose.
anyone have any ideas?
I actually use Daily Briefing for the weather updates, but it only updates when I hit the refresh button. Not sure why yours would be running all the time, especially without the widget.
To get rid of it entirely, you could uninstall the bloatware using Titanium Backup. That's what I did for most of the AT&T stuff on my phone.
The other possibility is to use a program like Autostarts (it costs money, but it's worth it IMO) to disable apps that run in response to events, like phone startup. You can deny just about any process or app you want.
yeah, it's really strange. I can't figure it out.
I keep thinking about removing it with titanium (I've already done that with a lot of the rest of the bloatware), but I'm afraid of making further changes to the stock as I'd like to install the official 2.2 update when it comes out without problems. Although I guess if I've already done it to a lot of the bloatware, at this point it doesn't matter.
I know I could just use odin, but I'm a bit scared due to all the problems people have had.
Just a general thing to check, is Background data and Auto-sync turned off under Settings > Accounts and sync?
I personally use a widget called GTWidget Data to toggle off data altogether when I'm not using it to make sure nothing running in the background uses data.
Hi. I have a rooted Samsung Captivate 2.2. I installed one-click-lag-fix, titanium, rom-manager, busybox, tegrak-overclock, task manager and my phone had lightning fast browser speed, and worked great. Then I installed Fastmod, and thats when the trouble began. I accidentally installed the wrong rom. I installed the rom for Galaxy GT-19000 instead of the rom for Captivate i897. I know this because my phone says GT-19000 when I turn it on.
Now, the phone is very unstable, freezes every few minutes, has forced closes for titanium, vlingo, messaging, etc. The phone even freezes when I make calls.
I set the phone to reset to factory- It is still rooted with 2.2, but the problems are still there. What can I do to get back my Captivate i897? Arnele
Hi!
I just got my SK4G the other week, and migrated over from a Motorola Milestone. I was using the brilliant 'Tasker' App on my Milestone, and when it came to getting the SK4G, I backed up my tasks and profiles, and am using the same SD card with the Sidekick.
My problem is that while all of the profiles I had set up are working fine, I am unable to create new ones because of the app continuously force closing. Whenever I try to set up a task, as soon as I get to the dialog to choose what actions to run, I get a short vibration, a pause, and then three quick vibrations followed by a force close. The rest of the app functions fine, and the tasks I'd already set up work perfectly.
I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app,
Removing my backed up preferences and creating tasks on default settings,
Using a task killer to free up RAM,
Rebooting,
Waiting a few days and trying again,
although nothing is working. I am still unable to use the app, as this unexplainable force closes prevent me from doing anything.
I know what you're thinking, "Go ask the Tasker forums!" but I just thought I would try here, seeing as it's a fairly popular app and the phone is only new I think I would have better chance finding someone who also uses the app on SK4G and might be able to enlighten me or tell me they have the same problem.
So, anyone got any ideas? Anyone using Tasker without problems on SK4G?
When you tried to install it on your SK4g, did you download it from the Market or did you just install the APK from your old phone?
I downloaded it from the market again, although its not impossible that there could have been some app files left behind on the sd card. Do you know what they would look like?
Thanks for helping!
Also, I'm just headed to bed, so don't expect another reply immediately
I've got Tasker working just fine here, that might just be some part of having the old files on your phone. Can you pull off everything that you copied over and try to redownload it from Market to see if that works without an FC?
I'm cleaning out my SD card now, getting rid of any extra Tasker files, and going to try that, although I can't actually uninstall the app. I do it via the market and it still shows up and I can still open it... This is with the SD card mounted and unavailable...
why can't you uninstall it? you should be able to just click uninstall in the applications list? it isn't a system app so there shouldn't be a problem there. also, why is your sdcard mounted but unavailable? that's just confusing. maybe that's why it can't uninstall? if it's installed to your sdcard, maybe it can't get to the application to uninstall it?
Sorry, by 'mounted' I meant to say that I was using the usb mass storage so the SD card was unavailable.
I ended up working out that I had given Tasker some kind of permissions in security settings, and had to disable that to uninstall.
Went through with uninstall, formatted my SD card and tried from scratch with Tasker again. No luck. Have now restored my profiles so I can keep using them until I sort it out.
huh. that's weird. and you reinstalled from market, not from an apk?
Yep! nothing makes sense!
Have you been able to completely uninstall it from your phone through settings?
I did completely uninstall, yes. I then re-downloaded from the market and I'm getting the same thing.
and what exactly are you doing in tasker when it force closes?
I get FC whenever I try to click the + button to add an action to a task.
I also asked the Tasker forums/google groups thing, and they told me to install a beta version, and I have and it fixed everything
So if anyone else has been having these problems just grab the latest beta of Tasker from here:
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/beta.html
The reson it fc is cuz u r stopping processes which are need to run for the device to work.......Well I will be honest with you,if ur talking about a task killer....ITS POINT LESS....unless u are a dev and plane to us ur phone for deving....because no matter how much ur stop things well they will just start runing againg and well the appes are waste of space if u want to spot app, go to mune, then apps, manage apps and stop the ones u don't want....
No, Tasker is something completely different - it lets you automate lots of Android things
Ok, so I have had issues with a game called The Country. It seems as though it doesn't get enough ram, that's why it just freezes the phone. So the question is
do these apps always need to be running? How do I close them permanently and have them run only when I need them.
1)Skype - always runs, even when you are logged off.
2)Google Services
3)Android keyboard
4)DSPManager
Weird but why is Settings running?
Maybe someone can explain why some of these need to run all the time. I'm sure it's probably for the quickness of using them, but come on.
Also, why does it say it has 512 ram, but in the Task Manager shows only 300? I take it the OS uses 200?
I don't know what kind of phone you have so i can't answer the ram question for you.
1) Skype keeps running alot on my phone too, i usually just force it to stop and it will go away. No idea why it keeps running though.
2) Wouldn't touch that one, probably needed for syncing
3) Keyboard will always run
4) You should be able to stop this one too especially when not listening to music

Click to collapse
Skype keeps coming back.
And the DSPManager also keeps coming back.
I've been having some major crashing with my tab lately I'll just be either watching a video, surfing the Web, or checking my email and all of a sudden the tab freezes and I have to hold the power button to restart. Its been doing this at least once a day for the last week. it's been fine since I bought it, this just recently started happening. Any one have any ideas or had any one else had this problem? It has not been rooted nor have I done any mods or anything. I've had the tab since february this year, will samsung still replace it if it decides to crash and not restart?

must be an application you recently installed that is causing the crashes, try uninstalling back to the point where your tablet runs perfectly or you could do a factory reset to start out clean.
It's probably a badly built application on your phone or a virus(which I doubt because this is quite rare) from an apk you installed from the net. Try going to settings > Applications and see what application seems to be a battery hog or running in background without your permission.
Nothing buggy running in the background and the only apps I install is from the market

Try using security apps like TrustGO or Avast or whatever. They might probably tell you what's causing such things to happen. Personally, I used TrustGO and was pleased but deleted it after I've dealt with all the bad apps. Or of course, you could do the good old factory reset.
