icons goes away because the apk is installed on the sd card, you must reboot phone in order to view it again, or install apks directly in phone's memory...

Are they widgets or icons? It's well known not to install widgets to the sd card as this is what can happen. Check they haven't and if they have move them back to internal memory.

I have the same problem. But I have to say the icons only are replaced by default icons on startscreens. In All Apps the icons are OK.
I asked HTC Support an got the answer I should try another microSD, which I did before asking. The support thinks maybe my card is not compatible or it can be damaged. As a result I would say answer not so helpful.
So I fixed the problem for me in moving all apps to phone.
@cjm1979: I only had it with icons, don't use many widgets

Are they installed to sd card? If so move them to phone

Problems With My Infuse

So I'm loving my Infuse, but I'm having a problem. Whenever I turn it off and then back on (which so far has only been when it dies) my home screen always gets screwed up. My Pandora widget disappears, and I am not able to add it back unless I reinstall the app. Also I have a firefox icon in the app tray at the bottom, and that disappears too.
What can I do to fix this?
by any chance does you live wallpaper change too?
i haven't noticed icons or widgets disappearing but i noticed my wallpaper goes back to stock after a reboot.
I've had the stock wallpaper all along so I have no idea, ill try it out and see what happens.
You need to install apps on phone not external SD card that will fix it. At least the live wallpaper.

I put on a live wallpaper and it stayed there after reboot, but my Pandora widget still disappeared, and I had Dolphin browser instead of Firefox in the app tray, but that disappears too.
How do I choose to install apps to the phone?
Go to settings, application, ext SD card in the top right, find application you want to move click it it will say move to phone click it. It will install on phone

I forgot its settings, applications, manage application, then SD card.

I don't even get an option to add the Pandora widget after I move the app to the phone.
Did you reboot the phone?

eroracing, thanks for your posts about this issue - I already exchanged my infuse once, but am too chicken to reboot this new one yet. I followed your instructions about the SD card; my phone came with an external SD card and there's also an internal card listed in the "SD card and phone storage" menu, as well as the phone storage itself. I'm hoping the 'sd card' on the far right in the Applications menu is referring to the external card.
I moved what I could to the phone, but I'm still too chicken to reboot!

Yes the one all the way to the right. And I'm not sure what you mean you don't want to reboot your phone. Just power off and back on again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
Ok, I finally screwed up the courage to power my infuse off and back on, and all is ok. Whew! Because of course once you get this large a screen, you just can't go back to something smaller!

You downloaded your icons and themes to your SD card.. go into settings applications manage applications and move them back to phone and that will solve your problem

Are you sure it is on the phone not sd card? You can go to settings/applications/manage applications and check each one is on phone or download app2sd and see which apps are on sd card and which are on the phone. Can't think of anything else it could be.

Icons turning to default after reboot?

Everytime I reboot my icons change to the green uploading icons and not to the normal ones. I have to manually remove them and add them again. Another thing i've notices is once in a while distorted horizontal lines appear across some apps. They will not go away most of the time unless I reboot.?
Sometimes my widgets get colored lines in it and i have to reboot to. My.contacts app disappear and turn into to people app all on its on til i reboot. Hope they fix these issues but no updates in site tmobile and phone companies have bad service.

I have the same problem but it only happens with a few specific games every time. It's annoying but I've just stopped fixing it and leave them as the android icon.
Mine was doing this for SD installed apps... Solved in the last update however...
Change the theme and back to restore the icons... marginally better than deleting and re-adding
You could also change the language, go to the main page, change the language back to what is was and it'll solve the problem.
move the apps that are loosing it's icons from sd to internal memory.
few of my games were doing this on reboot.
soon as I moved them to internal, no more problems.
kinda sucks that we can't take advantage of app2sd feature that comes with some of apps but until we get an update that fixes this bug, this is the only sure way I've found.

Yep, that fixed it after a restart. Why do some games install on the phone and some on SD? There doesn't seem to be any consistency.

I don't think apps install on the SD unless specified. As for the icons changing on reboot. This has been a problem on Android since apps to SD was implemented.

I'm having the same problem as well with my game icons.
That worked, Thanks!
My Facebook app on my main screen does the same thing -- I do have it moved to the SD card. Randomly the correct icon/logo appears on it, but most of the time it's the generic Android icon. I've learned to live with it -- maybe they'll fix it someday.
My icons return after a reboot, when I turn the phone off/on.
Got a 5 min wait for new user to post...

I tried this and it didn't work, until I realized that there were two Sense applications running and I killed the wrong one...D'oh!
I tried to force stop HTC sense and dashboard.... none of this worked.
So I tried changing the theme and IT WORKED!!!! When I restored my previous theme, all the icons went back to normal.
This the easiest non-frustrating method. From time to time, my phone crashes and restarts by itself and all my icons would change.
Has anyone tried using Rom Manager and run "fix permissions" with any luck?

It is not a permissions issue. It is quite simple.. the desktop icons are loaded before the sd card is mounted and accessible so it can't load the icons and won't retry later. Causing sense to reload in any way after the SD card is mounted will reload the icons. Changing themes works. Killing sense to force a reload works. Using titanium backup to freeze/unfreeze any of the sense Widgets works. I'm sure there are plenty more ways of making sense reload

missing app icon

i wonder if anyone has this problem. Android creates a shortcut whenever I move the app from app drawer to the desktop. however, for some reasons, some of the app shortcuts are gone! they are replaced with default android icons...
I can fix this problem by deleting this default icon and drag the app from app drawer to the desktop again. but the same problem comes back after i restart the phone... what's going on?
Are you using stock sense or an alternative launcher?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Hello, I have the very same problem (on top of the touch screen issues and rainbow artifacts on some widgets...).
What I do is that after reboot I switch the scene to an empty one, load it and then come back to the sense scene where all my icons are (personalize, scene, apply). It works for me.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
yeah it's a sense problem. It tries to load the icons when the SD card is not mounted yet and doesn't retry later.
You have to make sense reload. Changing the theme does that. Dis- or enabling any htc widget with titanium backup causes a sense reload as well.
Thanks for the solution.I was also having the same problem...
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Yep. I got it with Desktop Visualizer (use it for renaming apps with long names e.g Dolphin Browser HD). I found out it's because the app is installed on SD.

Can I safely uninstall htc widgets?

I want to uninstall all the widgets that I know for a fact that I don't use. I don't want to freeze them as I rather completely removed them.
Pretty much anything related to
Stocks
Twitter
Music
News
Etc.

I have and it works. Just go to system/apps and remove what you don't want. Make a backup of ur Rom first in case mistakes are made
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
In case I do happen mess up, is fixing the problem as simple so flashing a new rom?
Also, I might use titanium backup to remove them rather than root. Explorer.

I wouldn't delete - copy them to your sd card... then if all else fails, you copy them back to /system/apps, change permissions to 644 ("busybox chmod -R 644 /system/apps/*"), and reboot... 9 times out of 10 you'll be good to go again.
But any filename that has "widget" in it, you should be ok, as that only affects the actual widget, not the app itself. So as long as you don't want any widgets, it shouldn't hurt anything.
And I wouldn't mess with the lockscreen stuff if you start feeling tempted!

What does that mean if the filename has widget in it?? Then he might as well delete the Widgets on the home screen!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I basically just meant that any .apk or odex file in /system/apps that has "widget" in the name is tied strictly to a widget. So removing them won't hurt anything at all... unless, that is, you want to use one of the widgets...
Are you rooted running cwm? If so download rom cleaner it is a flashable script to eliminate sense bloat... But keeps sense launcher and lock screen
