[Q] Facebook Apk Question - Android Apps and Games

I like most people refuse to upgrade the facebook app for android as they seem to only make it worse everytime but now if your using a old version it always shows "there is a update available" at the top of your news feed and there is no way to turn it off or remove it. My question is is there any way to tweak the app to prevent this from showing up. If it helps I use the 1.5.4 Version of the app as thats the last decent update I find. I swear they have monkey designing it

Go to market settings and choose do not notify if update available and see if that helps.

Facebook 1.4: A non-crap update!

Get it while it's hot! Looks like they're finally stepping it up.
Edit: Also improved Facebook API so hopefully Facebook-integrated apps won't be so bad now!
so far it seems to be a good upgrade

How does having a Sense ROM make this useless? Other than contact integration and image uploading, what the hell does Facebook for HTC Sense do?
The notifications don't work for comments. That sucks. There is a app called f-plus that will give you notifications and Go Chat will take care of the fb chat.
I am sick of having 3 apps on my phone for the job that one app should be able to do.
On top of all that my post through the "official app" are not posting on the news feed. If anyone can chime in on that it would be very helpful.
still no chat and still can't poke! Among other things..The bottom line is If I have to open my browser to do anything then its a FAIL! Why have an app if I just need to open my browser at some point..
I just can't believe how they keep dropping the ball on this!
i can view comments from notification in the app so i am confused to as what is not working besides chat
Yes but it does not notify me on the notification bar if some one post on my wall

This to me is so stupid it's unfathomable. I would think this would be the absolute first thing this app would do...

I tried downloading from the app store. It downloads completely and while installing it fails. It gives me an error saying it was unable to perform the install. I tried to uninstall the present version but the uninstall option is grayed out.
And also sometimes , the appstore takes a while to download. Sometimes I have to restart my fone in order for the phone to start downloading the apps.
Any help is appreciated.
I get notifications on cm6.

I just wish you could tag photos with the app, my gf's iPhone can ... they just need to make the app on par to what the iPhone has already been able to do...

im ok with no chat since i dont use it, love that i dont have to use browser to reply to notifications, now if i could only edit uploaded photos(rotate) i would be satisfied.
Hmmm I don't like the single-sign-on feature because now all apps will have access to my account by just using FB API? not so good...
Still needs small improvement but they're stepping it up.

It will be listed in the app's permissions. Don't go downloading apps that you don't want to access your Facebook account.

If you're rooted, use Titanium Backup to uninstall the system copy of Facebook, reboot, then download the Market version.

[Q] new market app

I'm having a problem with the new market app. It sends me notifications for some dating app.
If I go into settings and untick google admob ads it doesn't make any difference.
Any thoughts how I can stop these?
Thanks

Are you sure its the market? How do you know its the market? I noticed ads in the notification bar from a mp3 downloader, but not from the market itself.
No, not certain, but if I click on the notification it opens the market at an app for the dating people. So just a guess
Sounds like you have some kind of rougue app on your phone...Market isn't the problem...you installed another app that has this extra crap in there that tries to get you to install the dating app.
Check the apps youve installed recently and remove them until you find the one causing it

I've been using the apk that was posted here since yesterday with no issues.
Im having a problem with ICS Market. Or 3.2.0. It wont let me purchase any apps. Tried clearing data. Uninstall/reinstall. I can download free apps but get an unmarked error(no info just error) when trying to purchase anything.

(fingers crossed) I think I may have solved it by deleting the Air Hockey app I had downloaded from the market. I think it may have had a little 'extra' item included.
Once I know it's stopped for sure I'll name and shame the app on here... otherwise I'm still looking!
There are a few apps out there that do that, one of them is or was the free
version of a '3' network usage checker. Kept getting push adverts until I
uninstalled the thing.
OK, no more notification pop up adverts, so I'm saying avoid - Glow Hockey 2 -
Thanks for the help guys,

List of Apps that Push Ads to Notification Bar

Hey guys, I recently downloaded or updated an app that has started pushing ads to my notification bar. This is abso-****ing-lutely unacceptable. I was wondering if anyone knows of any apps that are confirmed guilty of this? I can't figure out which app is guilty, and i uninstalled over 100MB of apps trying to find the culprit, but there it was again in my notification bar after work today. Also, is there a way to figure out which app is doing it? I have a very very nasty email waiting for the dev who thought this was a good idea once I figure out who it was.
Any confirmed apps I'll list below and try to keep up to date from here out if there's community interest.
Damn you Swype!
I have an app called Addons Detector on my phone that can search for apps with Push Notifications; haven't had a need to install it on my KF, but you might give it a shot. It's free on the Android Market, but I don't see it in the Amazon App Store.
Worked perfectly, thanks. Turns out it was the updated version of Extdate Widget. Reverted back to the previous version and no more ads.
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
There's an app called AirPush Detector that work great.
I tried using
AdFree
Addons Detector
AirPush Detector
Airblocker
Every time I would restart my phone, I would get the add in the notification bar (try tanks vs. wizards).
The first 3 didnt do anything, neither of them found and push notificiations.
But Airblocker found and blocked the add....but it also says that it is not a push notification app.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I want to delete the app, but have no idea which one is doing it....
It is blocked now, but I want to delete the app!
Just go to this site and you can manually opt out of all airpush ads. I did this a while ago and forgot all about it.

Thanks, but where can I find the information that the website asks for?

Ignoring Play Store Updates

Is there a way to ignore updates of certain apps?
There's 4 apps that I absolutely do not want to update because the updates suck. But everytime I open the Play Store there the updates are there begging me to install them. It annoys me. Is there a way to tell Play Store not to remind me about these updates?
do you mean notification if so you are running jellybean right when a notification pops up long press it that should take you to info for app that sends the notification and from there you can tell the app not to send notifications

Hi,
I can see nothing in the settings to change that.
It could be an annoying bug like the fact that you cannot get rid of old apps in your "My Apps" list that you no longer use...

No not so much apps I no longer use. But apps I use regularly but don't want to update.
For example I use Go Keyboard. I love it. Use it everyday. But the last update changed something I don't like so I don't want to update it. I'm happy with the version I have.
It just annoys me that everytime I go to the Play Store and look for updates to other apps, the Go Keyboard is begging me to download it.

How to get messages in the latest default Facebook app

Hey everyone I figured out a workaround for the whole Facebook forcing you to use Messenger app. This is for Android only so sorry iOS...
Go to Settings > Security and check Unknown Sources.
This is important because you need to download the apps from the web.
**BTW in case something bad happens to your devices which I'm almost positive nothing will I'm not responsible.**
Okay now delete your Facebook app.
Then go here: http://facebook.en.uptodown.com/android/old
And go all the way down to the bottom of the screen and download the oldest version of Facebook. Install it and sign in.
Now keep installing every version of Facebook from the bottom up and make sure just to click on the messages tab to make sure it works on every version of Facebook. This will let you keep the messaging option in the default app for the newest version! When an update is available I recommend you update from the website rather than the Play Store. Haven't tried it yet because there isn't an update and I don't know if it will still work.
Hope this is useful! Good luck

thanks. Im gonna try that because it really bugs me when they do that. Right now Im focusing on figuring out how to keep my sync settings for my google account from changing on their own all the time. Its driving me mad.
Thanks! I'm sure my friends will be glad to hear this!

I just use Messenger. I've been using it for as long as I've had a smartphone. I'm not afraid of the permissions. Samsung's stock SMS app requires all the same permissions as Messenger and more.
