I accidentally regged the same account in both Facebook and 'FB for Sense" (it felt logical at the time, but I have a secondary acc for work). Is it possible to replace one of the two accounts with the correct one, without losing the now synced contacts? They are now part of my merged contacts and I don't want it to touch them, if possible.
I'm actually asking two different things, but so closely related that I figured I'd only post a single thread.
1. Can I have two separate FB accounts on the phone?
2. Can I replace one currently active account, without losing the synced contacts? Losing only the "connection info" linked to the old FB account isn't a problem, as long as I don't lose the actual person from my contacts.
As a follow-up on Q2, if that is possible, which FB-app should I use to replace the acc, FB or 'FB for Sense'? Will either of them affect my contacts less?
Seriously, nobody knows?
I can understand nobody really having the need for several FB accounts, but not so much that nobody actually knows if it's possible or not, or which (if any) of the two standard clients would be best to use to setup the secondary account.
I'm struggling to get ONE facebook account to work and sync properly.
I only have about 20 phone contacts, close friends and family, but I have about 300 facebook friends.
Every time I try adding my facebook account, all 300 of my facebook friends appear when I press the PHONE button to make a call.
Is there any way of linking my 20 phone contacts to their facebook accounts, without all the other fb friends appearing in the phonebook?

there are two ways to do it. first would be to go under your contacts, hit the menu button on your phone, view and uncheck everything that links to facebook.. another way is go to your facebook app, go to main page by clicking the back button once, then hit the menu button on your phone, settings and go to the bottom where it says other settings facebook sync contacts and select "remove facebook data anc hit ok.

Neither of those work, they either leave loads of FB contacts in the phonebook, or remove all the facebook data including the links to my phone contacts.
I just want the 20 people in my phonebook to be linked to their facebook profiles.

I searched for an answer a few days ago, and didn't find one. I kind of figured out how to do it so I'd figure I'd share with others who didn't know.
I've read how everyone seemed to be pretty frustrated with the groups tab in our contacts and I shared the same frustration because I like to send mass text messages to my employees...
The groups tab only allowed you to add people from your phone memory, and won't let you pull from synced accounts like fb Gmail myspace corporate accts etc.
Like most people on here.... Most of your contacts were synced to your phones... Meaning... You had no contacts in the phone's memory.
so.... Fooling around with my phone tonight, I tried to find a solution...
I found one! Kind of...
When in your contacts.... Hit the menu key, and click on export contacts (to sd).
Once exported to the sd card, click on menu again and click import contacts (from sd).
Be careful not to interrupt the phone as is imports your contacts, or you'll do what I did and stop it halfway and have to do it all over again, causing duplicate phone entries (lots of clutter).
The phone automatically linked most (probably 90%) of the imported contacts with the existing ones.
Now go back to the groups tab, add a group, and add members to the group (now that all of your contacts are now in the phone's memory).
Now for the "kind of" part of my post....
When in the messaging app... When sending a new Group text mssg, Click on groups.... It takes about 8 seconds (seemed like forever, I thought my phone froze) to load the groups... Then when you select the group, you have to individually select the contacts within the group....
Talk about time consuming!
I was hoping that when I clicked on the group, that it would at least automatically select everyone within that group.
So.... Now I gotta figure out how to send a group text with not so many clicks and in a timely manner...
Hey this is great but unfortunately I had my import interrupted part way through also and not all contacts came through. What did you do to clean up after you imported a 2nd time??
You can also use Samsung Kies.i had a100 or so contacts synced with Exchange. I installed Kies. I then synced my contacts to Outlook and back to my phone (errr, something like that). Anyways, it did as you said and linked my contacts, but I went one step further. I then removed my Exchange account to clearall the duplicate contacts, and then setup my Exchange account again without syncing contacts. I hardly every add contacts via Outlook. Usually always done straight to the phone so this works for me as long as I sync every few months.

i shared the same fustration...
hahaha... all i did was... do the import process all over again
thus creating about 500 duplicates! what a pain!
luckily, the phone automatically links duplicate names...
it just gets really cluttered when you have gmail, fb, myspace, corporate, and phone entries...
the worst part is... the max each person can be linked is w/ 5 accounts...
so when i imported 1 and a half times, i had a few duplicate entries because it exceeded the 5 links/contact.
what a pain... i went through one by one to clean it up... im dooing a letter a day...
When I go to my Pictures hub, I do not see any of the albums that I have from my facebook like in other WP7s (it should have an album titled "from facebook"). It's been synced and everything else works fine, anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is?
Did you ever work this out? I have exactly the same issue, and really do not want to hard reset if I can avoid it. I have tried removing and re adding the facebook settings. What else can I try?
Just to add, I have now hard reset the device and entered my login info from scratch, and I still do not get my facebook photos showing in the pictures hub. I have not changed any settings in facebook. Can anyone suggest anything else I can try?
I had my facebook albums show up in picture hub. One day they just vanished. So I deleted my facebook account in 'email and accounts' in Settings menu and then re added it again in Contacts and the albums came back. So far they are still there.
Thanks. I've deleted and added the account quite a few times now both from 'email and accounts' and the applications -> people menu with no joy. All my contacts, my news feeds and the 'what's new' pictures work fine. What else could be the problem?
I never had my Facebook pictures showed up in the picture hub.. Didn't even know that could happen... I don't know how to make it work..
My question:
If I add facebook account, will it ask me to add or not to add FB contacts to my contacts? I just don't want any of my FB contacts to be in my contacts hub...
How does it work?
if you add facebook, it automatically pulls everyone to contacts and tries to tie as many to your current contacts stored in windows live. you can hide ones it didn't tie, but that's it. you can't choose what to sync.
I really wish that I could help you guys with the facebook pictures things (Though for me the only pictures that showed up are the ones the I uploaded... not ones that others did, and I know if you go the the pictures you want you can save them to your phone,) but if you don't want your contacts to be synced with FB go to Settings>Applications>people and hit the option that says "only add facebook info to existing contacts"
Hope that helps!
Just an update on this. I hard reset again, and it's working as it should. Bit of a hassle, but happy now
So, this is my dilemma.
1. I have a SIM Card. It has contacts on it. Android automatically recognizes them.
2. I have my contacts saved to Google. Android also automatically recognizes them.
If I go to enter in a name to send a text, it brings a pull-down menu, with duplicates of everyone. One is for SIM, and one is for Google Contacts.
The Contact list IS slow with Google instead of it being saved directly to my phone. I want to save them directly to my phone. If I do so, the "send a text to" list triples, so each name appears three times.
The contact list, I can exclude everything but phone contacts. Is this something I can do in Messaging? Should I give up on Messaging and its many issues and move to Handcent and deal with its own issues?
I check before I go to bed and it is bumped off the main page?? Where are the people who can help at XDA anymore? It seems every topic I post gets pushed away
So... anyone?

Why don't you just go to your contacts page from Gmail on your PC, sort them all out how you want them and then let them automatically sync to your phone?

this is the easiest method!
Go into your contacts, for every contact that has a duplicate, do this:
1. Press Menu Button and select "Edit Contact"
2. When in the edit contact area, press the menu button again
3. Select "Join" and pick the associated duplicate contact.
This worked great for me with all my duplicate Facebook and Google contacts.
Hope that helps.
Somehow my new Inspire synced with facebook, google, outlook (I guess) I have five or six entries for everyone. I linked some of them, but is there an easier way to get rid of the duplicates?

Faced with the same issue, I deleted all my phone contacts, removed the contacts sync on all my accounts, and then restored my previously exported up phone contacts backup.
And since the google contacts where all synced earlier, when I compose any email, it still prompts for emails from the previously synced contacts.
Best for u could be to take off the linking. Linking contacts messed up big time for me changing the display names, and not reverting to the one already on phone.
Go into your People app and touch Menu, choose View. Now remove checks from any account which you don't want your contacts displayed. I only have my Google contacts displayed (and have Facebook for HTC Sense only syncing with contacts in my address book for contact pictures). All other accounts (2 exchange, phone, sim, ect) are unchecked so i don't see these duplicates
I spent about two hours linking them all.
Now they only show up as one contact. It seems to be working ok so far. Will this slow down the phone, having so many duplicate, linked contacts?
I had exact same problem as you. What I did:
1. Made every contact show up (google sync, facebook, etc.)
2. Deleted ALL duplicates.
3. Saved to SD Card.
I never had a problem afterwards. I use google as a backup just in case though
I also believe that the duplicates are unnecessary, so I delete them, because I had like 4-5 duplicates for each contact.
Get GO contacts from market. Good app to manage contacts. I had 3000 "contacts" ... Came down to actual value of 200 using the app.

Hello,
New android user here after 4 years with an iPhone. I am extremely happy with my skyrocket and have no plans on going anywhere
Slight problem I could use some help with. I am a gmail user and keep 'my contacts' pretty organized and updated since this was the contact list that i synced with my iPhone. I would have thought moving to an android would be even easier, however I have a slight problem that I cannot seem to figure out.
I synced my main google account and chose 'contacts' as one of the items to sync. My contact list was imported just fine, however, upon composing of a new message, when I type a few characters, rather than attempting to match those characters with one of 'my contacts', the system seems to pull suggestions from every single email address i've ever used in my gmail account (over 1400). Obviously I would only rather the system pull from 'my contacts', but I have no idea how to fix this. I've deleted the contact syncing and restarted the phone, verified that there were no contacts in my contact list, but still got the same results when attempting to compose a text message.
Is there a way to delete those contact suggestions for good?
Much appreciation
under groups in the contacts app select your account and arrow down. I believe u can then select exactly ehat syncs. You will have to delete all, and I mean. ALL the contacts on your phone, becuz all 1400 emails on there. Then resync with mew settings. That's should work.

Thanks, I will try that. Do you know of a way to bulk delete contacts?
