[Q] question about bubby's guide - HTC Inspire 4G

Is the second post that has the download for bubby's program the one i need to get if i am trying to root? I do have the new gingerbread official leak installed, but i decided it wasnt fast enough so decided to root.
thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
If not, do i need to use another tool, and where can i find it?
Please and thanks! (i would've posted this in the above thread, but im still under 10 posts so cant post in the development forum)

I used it to root. His program runs you through everything, including the gold card stuff. Once you're finished, just flash whatever you want.

kk, well i just downloaded it just to see if my antivirus would quarantine rage like people said it would (i use avast internet security), but i checked the virus chest and all it has in it is some stuff from awhile back. Does this mean rage didnt get quarantined, or did avast just not even let me see the rage quarantine?

Wait, you have the AT&T (Cingular 2.47.502.7) GB ROM Installed as-is stock on a non-rooted Inspire? If so, then currently no rooting methods will work for you. You'll need to do it by hand with fre3vo instead of rage or psneuter.

ah kk, thank you. From what i have read Fr3vo is only a temp root, is that true? cause im going for full root so i can get a kingdom rom (it seems the fastest from what ive seen, and it has sense 3.0, which is a + for me)

Yeah its for temp root but you need temp root first in order to trick your phone into a downgrade then achieve full soff

ah kk, i think i will just wait a bit until bubby's is updated to be able to root my phone cause i dont wanna brick it on my first root ever. I'd probably ask someone here just to guide me through it through IM or something, but i tend to not be on at times when most would probably be on.

ATTN1 might update his method...he's around from time to time, and it's a better method than Bubby's anyway. But yeah I'm sure anybody who comes up with a scripted solution will be welcome with open arms .

I just heard from ATTN1 that he's tested Fre3vo and it works on Inspire and will be part of the next revision to the hack kit.
Meanwhile, I'm nearly finished with my all-in-one factory S-ON complete factory reset tool.

I don't see why it should matter. A gold card is a gold card.

Ok, so i had gotten the exception error message, and i found it out. the adb.exe from my first time of opening the program was still running, and stopping the CID process from running.

I dont want to install a rom, i just want

I just want to root and enable non market apps. That would be fine with me. Id also like the speeds to be fixed, but thats ok if they are not.
I tried this gold card tool, but it doesnt work. And im not going with the crazy version in the video. I dont care for all that stuff. Just want to root and install non market apps without having to need a pc to sideload. If i download an apk on the phone, i want to install it like a human
As far as i can tell, gold cards are for sim unlocking .... i dont need all that extra stuff
frustrated with this phone, but im still going to buy another one to replace the one i just got and gave to the wife.
I'm in the same boat. Just want to root and be able to install non market apps. I wish we don't had to downgrade. I heard people having issues with sound and WiFi. I already exchanged one inspire and would hate to have to exchange another one.

I know it doesn't sound pretty in the beginning but now that the HTC Inspire 4G Simple One Click tool is out you can get sideloading, remove the bloatware, and fix your UDPA in one fell swoop. (2 swoops really but it works and doesn't take all day to figure it out
You will need to make a gold card. It's all part of the same hack. I used the ace hack kit after i was rooted I just flashed the att1 stock rooted rom. It has everything you want on a stock rom.
I believe the one click method has a easy gold card maker.
Q: Do I need a goldcard for this?
A: Yes. This still downgrades your rom to achieve S-OFF.
Put the gold card in before starting the one click.
There lies part of the problem.

go to the unlockr.com and search make gold card. There video makes it really easy to follow. This method works. I used it for two inspires.
Don't be afraid and take a shot at it. If you follow the direction carefully, it's very easy. There is also a video tutorial (there may be some very slight differences, but it is still helpful when you have trouble with text directions. If you can see it done on video, you'll understand the next step better).

[Q] post root questions

I'm looking to root my inspire for 2 simple reasons. To be able to uninstall the bloatware and have access to the amazon app store. As far as I can tell bubby's 1 click root seems to be the easiest method so far.
I just have a few questions on what to do after or if I'm successful in gaining root.
I'm planning on sticking with the stock rom and not doing anything extra then what bubby's instructions say. (using his rc2)
The gold card....Can I still use it as a SD card in my phone? Do I have to format the card again to restore my backed up files on it or can I just simply add them to the card? Or do I have to get a new SD card?
I've already gotten the OTA update that was released a couple days ago...will the stock rom have HSUPA enabled? Can I still use the OTA update to install updates as they come out or will I have search online for custom updates and install them manually?
Lastly...will I run in to any other problems or glitches? Sound working? Increase/decrease in battery life? Increase/decrease in speed? Baseically will all the apps and functions of my phone still work as well as they did before root?
I feel like I have searched everywhere for answers to these questions but no luck....So any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am new to this too, but I did run across the answer to your SD Card question. Yes, you can use it again as normal without formatting it. At least that is SOME answer to get you started...lol :0)

It should but AT&T's definition of HSUPA varies from device to device and region to region. You may get OTA updates, but keep in mind the update may clear your ability to sideload apps and may clear the root access once applied. So yes it might be better to search for custom updates

In regards to the goldcard...
You may want to consider holding on to it for future possible use (in case you somehow need to root another inspire, you won't have to make another one).
Either buy a 4gb for the goldcard if you want to use the 8gb that came with the phone, or take the opportunity to get a bigger one for daily use in your phone, and use that 8gb for the goldcard.
In regards to OTA updates...
The one on your phone will be lost in the rooting process. After its done, though, you can reflash the same thing back onto your phone... The same Rom is available over in the dev section. Future OTA updates will have to be manually updated by way of this forum. Fear not, they'll be here.
In regards to glitches...
You'll only be left with no sound if you don't finish the process fully. In order to gain root, a temporary downgraded Rom (that has no sound) has to be flashed first. Then, the functioning stock Rom is flashed back on.
People complain they "lost sound after rooting" because they don't follow the process through to completion... Putting a working Rom back on.

I have made myself an expert with this stuff LOL...rooted my HTC last week with the simple one click one.......Number 1 is don't change your ROM at all...at least don't go to CM7....you will have major problems with it...........GPS will not work, trust me.
Also, if you change your radio, your also screwed because your UP and DOWNLOAD will be messed up and your GPS won't work as well...i myself am tyring to find a root solution that won't touch my radio.....only push an exploit that will give me unknown sources to be installed and for WIFI tether...that's it for me.
Now I'm curious.
Now that this is out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Couldn't someone download this and rename it PD98IMG.zip, boot into hboot and bypass the whole OneClick/Hack kit?

Rooting and back to stock.

I am new to this rooting stuff and been spent most of yesterday learning and asking questions. Here is what I did and some questions I got from it.
1. I rooted using the guide from ace hack it, took me a few tries but got it working.
2. Noticed I went from GB 2.3 to 2.2 after it. So is there a way to get to 2.3. This will lead to another question a few.
3. I loaded my first Rom off the SD and it was Leedriod. That gave GB 2.3 but was having difficulty with gps. But I was happy to know the rooting and Rom laps worked for me.
4. So I tried the offical ATT RUU through usb and HTC sense. It worked but also put me back to stock. Is this a way of putting your phone back to stock? I do have ace hack it on the phone because when I reboot I can get into it but if I select recovery from the menu it seems to lockup my phone.
5. Is the term Rom and RUU interchangeable? I see people using both or am I reading it wrong?
Thanks for any help. I have been reading pages of this stuff and its making my head spin. I just wanted to ask some questions to help understand this better, since I'm new to it.

Ruu=Radio Update Utility
Rom=the OS you see/use on the phone.
When you ran the Ruu, you unrooted your phone. You'll have to rerun the Hack Kit to regain root but not S-off and to be able to flash a different (preferably custom) rom.
Do you have a preference for Sense or AOSP?
I figured that I had to rerun which is ok with me.
I don't really use sense because there aren't many options to it. So I would try asop but o don't know what is

If you ran the RUU, it will return you to a stock ROM, but you are still S-OFF which is the biggest hurdle in rooting your phone. If you want to root after running the RUU, just flash ClockWorkMod recovery via HBOOT and then install a rooted ROM.
That's dang good info. From what I knew, you had to rerun part of the hack kit to reboot. How does flashing CWM root the stock rom?

Easy enough to get the real answer. When I first saw you call it Radio Update Utility it didn't sound right. So I googled it. I saw about 4 names that people gave it including Radio Unit Upgrade but then I thought where did I see it before. Oh yes, right from the upgrade utility.
So I tried recovery again. And my phone keeps getting locked up. The device appears with a red triangle with a red exclamation mark. So i tried the downgrade from the hack it kit. It worked but i still get the same thing. So i tried reverse gold card and i got a error. The same that i got before i reformatted the SD to get the root to work.
So later today, I will reformat and run the hack kit again. I am probably going to try Coredroid ROM.

[Q] Just another root question - 2.3.6

There's so much out there I have to ask it directly. I know it's got to be in the forum somewhere but I've read probably half dozen ways to do this and it's confusing.
I have a TMob Galaxy S 4g T959VUVKJ6 running T959VUVKJ6-CL694130 kernel (hope that means something to someone!) with 2.3.6 firmware that came with the phone.
How can I get rid of bloatware?
If I have to root first is there an ez way to do that, like SOC that works on my phone?
I rooted a previous phone but with an older firmware and used SOC. Looking for the same process if I can. Thanks in advance.
SOC V2.3.3 will work on GB. If you just want to root and keep the stock ROM that's your best bet.

SOC is one way, but given that you need to have CWM installed I would suggest using the third link in bhndven's [Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011].
After that, install [KERNEL]Subtly Modified Stock with CWM5 + Voodoo Lagfix [02/24] to get on the latest beta kernel. It has the latest CWM which resolves an issue with CWM 3 not being able to mount /system on Gingerbread.

SOC will work, just make sure you have the latest version. However, to debloat you need CWM so I would forgo SOC & install the stuff above.
Nope. I downloaded SOC 2.3.3, checked USB debugging, plugged in my phone, it didn't ask my anything about my card, turned on SOC, clicked Root, it went through Killing ADB Server, daemon not running, daemon started successfully, and sat there at Starting ADB Server. Tried several times but no joy. Is it me?
It said Not Responding.
I haven't used it to root in a really long time personally. I know others have gotten it to work recently. Maybe try a different usb port. Here's a guide with some info on it. You need to try a USB that you haven't used on your phone before. Follow the first link in my signature and go to the part about rooting. If fresh USB port doesn't work after following the guide it will probably be your USB cable.

Still no joy. I think this is just too hard to do, which brings me back to my original question. I'm sure some wizard will come up with a way to do this soon - just not now I guess. Thanks for the help though! I appreciate it. I guess I'll stay stock for awhile yet.
How could you have done what I said in that short of time? I think you aren't reading thoroughly and are waiting for a specific answer you want to hear.
Just follow the second link in my signature. You will be on rooted stock with CWM and the guide is DUMMY proof.
I think your right lumin....outside of the vibrant....this is the easiest phone to root.

Another simple way to get rid of bloatware is to use titanium backup or root explorer.
Because I am sitting at my computer working on this so it wasn't that hard to do. I had SOC open, had already downloaded file manager, etc. I never got a USB port to work but I'm going to try it again. Once I get a moment to take a deep breath. I really do appreciate the help but I don't want to do alot to do that. I got spoiled with SOC.

OK, I think it worked this time. The trick was to use IE and not Chrome apparently. It didn't go like the directions said but I ended up with a rebooted phone, lost all my apps and stuff, but with superuser on it so I assume I'm rooted and this won't start launching nuclear missiles or something. Thanks, Lumin! I appreciate your patience with me.
Hi. I have posted in another thread regarding problems with my Wind Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959W), which seems to be similar to rogerperk's issues, although the phone is a different model. lumin30 responded to the post saying that my phone is not supported by XDA. Being a noob, I don't understand why my phone is not supported. It is still a Galaxy S 4G, is it not; albeit with different baseband.

Is there anyone out there that may be able to help? stephen_w, lumin30, FBis251? My main goal is to root it so I can use Titanium Backup and fix the random shut-down problems.
thanks,
Billy

Billy even tho your phone is a SGS4G it is different from the T-Mobile phone. So our methods wont work. We dont know anything about your phone or even how to root it. You are probably stuck with a locked up phone.
Super One Click is not specific to our model phone. I will post a link to the website for you to read up on and determine if you want to try using it to root. I haven't read anybody messing their phone up with SOC - however, keep in mind you will not have a way to fix your phone if you do mess it up.

yes, currently software version 1.85 is rootable. i would strongly recommend staying away from any ONE-CLICK rooting methods, as you may inadvertently OTA yourself. one click asks you to check for updates, but back then there wasn't an update to be found. if you do one click, and you do begin to update, quickly run a factory reset to get out of the OTA
once you OTA, you can never root or unlock your phone. (that's what happened to me)

Well does anyone know a current good root method to unlock bootloader and gain root?

Use this one click:

I disagree with the other poster. Sure, you're going to check for updates, and if the one-click root does not work, it will start to download the update. The update is 100's of mb, so you have plenty of time to go and manually change the date in your settings. Just add two days. This will immediately confuse the server, and it corrupts the download and stops right away. Then try the root process again. It took me many tries of adding two days (got somewhere near the end of August), but low and behold, it finally was successfully.
Also, at any point feel free to do a factory reset and start again. All of the people's recent experiences are near the end of the thread I posted above.
FYI, I did this 3 days ago on my phone.

i, unfortunately, was not bright enough to realize all of this, and it was not spelled out clearly, so i ended up OTA'ing. if you are competent enough to do what is quoted here, then it works.
Got mine 3 weeks ago. ONE CLICKS not working at all for 1.85
SUPERCID is the one that worked for me.

Here is the link.
I couldn't get CWM recovery to work. Flashed TWRP and very happy with that.

Well, you're competent enough to be getting 2x better fuel economy than me!
How about reading a little and using the manual method? You should have no problem with that one.

Given the fact that this thread started with a question that has been answered tens, if not hundreds of times, I suspect that "reading a little" is not an option for the OP

Yeah.. CWM isn't supported by the One X, TWRP is.
So if anyone new is reading this, please avoid CWM. It'll be of benefit for you.
