Thanks, their menus is a little different than other applications. It makes sense after the fact if you have more than one account. Thanks again for the response.

for the stock email app:
Settings>Personalize>Notification Sound>Email
for gmail:
(inside gmail app) Menu>More>Settings>Set Ringtone

Well that would be the general notification...by if u want to turn it on for email u go to Ur email, like the widget, open the inbox then hit menu, more, settings then u can turn on notification there..
Edit: xnifex u beat me to it, I was replying then got distracted before I posted

if I take this way I can only use the standard sounds. how can I use personal sounds?
e.g. "you've got mail" sound from AOL for email-notification?
Anyone else have issues with zedge notification tones not sticking? I have one I downloaded selected but when I get an email or text a default system one plays. Any ideas?

You have to manually set those by going into each and apply it in their settings. Like for the text, open up messages, click menu and go into settings and change the tone all the way at the bottom of the menu. Same applies for the email

That worked, thanks man.

That's odd. My boss has an infuse and he doesn't have to set them each manually. He's able to just set his notification tone in either sedge or in settings and it works for texts and email.

Happened to me too. I set the one in settings, but it only worked for general notifications, not text. That one I had to go the setting in the message app itself, which I thought was weird.
But then I thought about it and it makes sense. If you want to have multiple sounds for different types of notifications.
i just started using handcent sms...and i love it...bit when.i get a text...and a notification...i get it twice...one thru handcent and one through messages that comes with the phone...how can i turn messages off so only handcent will get texts...and stop all these double texts...please help me...thanks in advance...

When in Handicent, click menu and choose settings, > Application Settings and Defaul Messaging.
This supresses the native Android notification.
Good luck
I did that...i selected disable...and when i get texts...i still get both notifications ...weird...?

I use handcent also (Great App btw) and always uninstall the stock mms app. No sense in having two and it frees up space..just saying
Is anyone still receiving Gmail notifications? I haven't for the longest even though I have it selected in the settings.

I still get them.
I'm using Enhanced Email App.
But the notifications are still in the status
I have the same problem with Gmail. Not only I don't get the notifications but it doesn't auto synchronize.
The same thing on my Note 2.
I added the gmail account to AquaMail, witch I am using for my business mail, and its OK now.
Ok so I seem to have fixed my notifications issue. Here is what I did
Settings > select your Gmail account > Sound & Vibrate
Then make sure that Inbox has notifications enabled as well as Inbox under the "Recent Lables"
In my case under the Recent Labels I did not have notifications enabled.
