Update:
Stock update.zip needed!!
or, does those mod update.zip helps too ?
I've had trouble connecting this SGS4G to my PC.
I got it used, the previous owner fomated the SD card.
Is there any files comes with the stock SD card that affects the connection?
I tried hard and soft reset, still the PC said can't recognize it.
I even hand pick the USB driver in update driver option.
It says "Device cannot start (code 10)" something like that
Any advise will be appreicated!
Look for drivers only maybe different bit than your pc
Try just the sd.card in your.computer

Did you install the drivers found on the "how to root galaxy s4g and deleting fota files" thread in the development forum?

One thing you might try, if you haven't yet is a different (original) usb cable. I had this problem and realized I was using a moto usb cable. Just a thought.

+2 I had this issue before.
Thankyou for all the answers, I've used 3 different drivers, 1 from Kies, 1 from that Noob root guide, and one from somewhere i forgot.
I also used 3 different micro usb cable, HTC, MOTO, and samsung.
I went to Tmobile, plug in one of their sgs4g in my laptop, works perfectly, so not my laptop and not my cable.
Then i tested, my phone is not rooted yet with root checker, when I install superuser, it gave me an error msg saying that su binary file has a problem, It disappear before i write it down. and it said it copied that su binary on my sd card and tell me to reboot into recovery mode and install it.
I dont know how, and i guess that means a hard reset? I used that vol up+down and power buttom. Then I clicked reinstall packages, big discovery!
I found out that "E;/fail to open.mnt/internal_d/update.zip(No such file or direstory)
Man.... somehow that update.zip isn't there!!!
Anyone could point me to a place to download it? or simple upload me or send one to me email [email protected]
Again thank you for all the comments!

Have you installed the driver's from Samsung yet?
Additionally, when you plug the USB cord in, what happens on your phone? Do icon's show up, up top? Nothing happens?
Have you tried to go into Settings>Applications>Development and made sure USB Debugging is on?
Now if you have tried a standard SGS4G from the TMO Store on your laptop and it worked, you might have gotten a bad deal buying that one used. Something might be jacked up on it.
Additionally, if it's unmodified which it sounds like it is,
Just go to Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset.
That will put you back to the original state.

No icon show up.
Something is missing from the phone, i did the factory reset both soft and reinstall package in Recovery/ delete all user data, still no help.
When i use root checker, it tells me there is no su binary in system/bin
Superuser created one for me to the SD card, but es file explorer wont copy it into system/bin for me, and in recovery mode, it just say no update.zip exist in internal SD

I'm not sure what would have been deleted off the phone to prevent the USB from working on your computer. Either way, you're kinda out of luck if it won't even connect to the computer.
Only other solution would be to download the stock ROM in the form of update.zip from your phones web browser, save to SD, then reboot into recovery and choose the second option.
The reason why update.zip is missing is because you haven't put it on your SD card. You typically download any zipped ROM, rename it to update.zip and then put it in the root of your SD.
Since you can't connect to the computer you'd have to download from a browser.

Very usefull Info!!
I'm downloading that Stock DEODEXED KC1 now. But it's in Mc5
So, i just zip it right?
Luckily I could still take the sd card out and use a card reader to load stuff on it.
Mainly i want the connection to the pc for rooting.
Moreover, the Root checker says i already have Busybox installed, does it mean, the previous owner might have tried to or did rooted, but unroot it ?
That one doesnt work, so I tried another one which it states its completely stock (T959VUVKC1-REV00-ALL-low-CL933594.tar)
But still both turns out "E: signature verification failed"
any idea?
So the USB mass storage functionality has stopped working. I've owned the same G2x since it came out. I tried in both stock Android (2.3.3) and CM7 build 152. I've tried attaching the phone to two different computers running two different OSs (Win7 x64 at work and OSX Lion at home) and using two different cables. `adb devices` doesn't show any devices attached, either, and I have "USB debugging" enabled. The G2x shows it's charging, so I know the cable's connected and receiving power from the USB bus. I'm gonna call T-Mobile (and/or LG) about it. Has anyone had the same issue? Does anyone know of anything I should try?
Did you install the LG drivers?
Download from LG here:
http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp
Yup, LG drivers are installed on Win7. No drivers needed for OSX.
Have you altered the mountpoints of your sdcard? I've noticed that in stock roms if I change the mount points of my sdcards then I can't mount them to my computer as mass storage.
Nope. But I guess I could format the SD card and internal memory. Only problem is that I have data I need to keep on it.

Hmm I'm not sure what else to suggest then. Do you have clockworkmod recovery? Try booting into clockworkmod and go to Mounts & storage. Select to mount USB storage there and see if it mounts to your computer that way. If it mounts there then at least its not a hardware issue.

Doesn't work that way, either. I put in a new sd card and formatted the internal sd (emmc). I think I'll be making a trip to the T-Mobile store tomorrow. I'll probably need to put it completely back to stock, heh. I should be okay just to reflash the 2.3.3 update right from the LG tool, I think.
Happens to me from time to time. All I do is turn the USB debugging mode on and off and plug it in until it works.
I tried cycling usb debugging, too. Didn't work.
So I'm making a little bit of progress. I installed adbWireless and plugged in the USB cable. This is what `dmesg | tail` gives me:
Code:
<4>[ 2528.279492] -->> MUIC : Set_MAX14526_Usb_Mode_Detect
<4>[ 2537.679262] Dumb charger detected
I'm backing up my sd card through wireless adb by using `adb pull /sdcard/ sdcard`. I'll hit up t-mobile tomorrow and see what they can do for me. I'm hoping that I can still use the LG tool to flash 2.3.3 so I can be fully back to stock (uninstall clockworkmod). I'll keep you all updated in this thread. Meanwhile, if anyone has any more suggestions, I'd love to try them out.

Do you have an external sdcard in your phone? Just use a file explorer to copy all your data from the internal SD to the external one and then take it out and use a microsd adapter put it in your computer to get your files from it.
To return to stock you can also download the stock nandroid backup posted in the dev section. Its here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196019
Download it to your computer, unzip it and copy the unzipped v21e folder to your external microsd card to the ./clockworkmod/backup directory (using an adapter since USB mass storage doesn't work). Put the sdcard back in your phone and use clockworkmod recovery to restore that nandroid to your phone. It's stock unrooted 2.3.3. Then use the one-click nvflash tool from the dev section to flash stock recovery back to your phone. Now you're back to factory condition.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have a v21e nandroid backup. I just tried connecting the phone for nvflash, but that doesn't work, either. It doesn't show up in the LG Updater tool, either, when I plug it in. I think it's just plain broke. It'll charge, but won't do anything else.
I stayed up just about all night last night backing up my internal and external sd cards. I zipped the internal, placed the zip file on the external, then used an adapter to copy all the files on the external over. My biggest concern was the $50 in music I just bought that was residing on the internal sd and the keepass file I use for work.
Anyways, T-Mobile opens up in an hour. I'll head over after restoring the v21e nandroid backup I have. Hopefully they won't notice the ClockWorkMod recovery, heh.
Talked with T-Mobile. Apparently, I told them a few months ago that I rooted my phone and put cm7 on it. D'oh! They told me to contact LG, who could probably ship me out a new/refurbished device. If I did that, I'd be without a phone for multiple weeks. LG would see that I have ClockWorkMod recovery installed and could still reject my refurb request. I'd be out the cost of shipping and without my beloved phone for a few weeks.
I think I'll wait to see what Google has up their sleeves for their October 11th event. I might use this as an excuse to devour an Ice Cream Sandwich.
Thanks for all the replies and the help. If anything else comes to mind, let me know. I've loved this phone and would hate to part ways with it.
This happened to me 4 months ago. I tried everything with no luck. You'll have to get a replacement, I couldn't unroot it obviously but I installed a stock ROM and deleted everything custom. Only way they would have known it was rooted was if they powered it off and held down volume and power button. I've had my newphone since then goodluck

Thanks, this worked for me. I have been trying to figure out how to get it working for a few weeks now.
How common of a bug is it for the G2X? I Have not heard of it before.
----------------------------------------------
Probably a rare glich with CM7 stable, pulling out the battery did not make it go away, but toggling the usb did.
Make sure you don't have the usb charge only option check. If you do it will only charge and not connect the mass storage. Should be under settings, sdcard, first option.

After the root procedure I don't seem to have any ability to use USB Mass storage.
Windows reports it as an empty drive, linux will show the device as connecting and assigns it a /dev/sdx device, but when you attempt to mount or fdisk, it reports no medium.
Any one else having similar issues?
I could always try a reset to factory defaults after unrooting, but I really don't see what rooting could have done.
I used the manual method and had to run zerg several times, however beyond that no other files where modified.
I've already reverted /data/local.prop to stock, no help.
Any one have any other insights?
I had to uninstall motohelper to get USB mass storage working.

When you take a picture, does it save to your sdcard? Sounds completely unrelated huh? Well, this phone seems to have an issue with the sdcard randomly becoming read only. I have had that issue multiple times now and usually it's solved by restarting the phone. Well, I seen your issue today and didn't remember if I had tried to use it as mass storage since rooting it so I tried....no luck. Took a pic, it looked like it saved, didn't get any error, but could not find the pic in my gallery. Then I tried to take a screenshot and got the read only error. So I just took my sdcard out and made a copy of it to my pc, put it back in and rebooted my phone, it's all good now, imagine that. Needless to say, i'm backing up all my apps right now before doing anything else. Then gonna backup my contacts too.
motohelper... Sounds like a stock app...
did you just rm the apk?

I had to reinstall all the drivers through motohelper to get it to work as well =/
No problems now though~
I was able to get my sdcard recognized again but still could not use it as mass storage device, never had a problem with this before root. Did factory reset and all is well.
There is no possible way root caused the issue at all. It stopped working for me once I installed moto drivers, but shows the device with mass storage under it in usb portal mode.

Well then it's one hell of a coincidence! Before root, w/motodrivers, worked fine, after root w/motodrivers, didn't work, after unrooting, w/motordrivers, works again.
Same thing happened with my phone. Actually now returned because of all the issues I kept having hardware wise and wound up going and getting the HTC Vivid. So if any of yall switch I will see you when a Forum is made for this device.

I have until the 24th of this month to decide if I want to keep this phone or not. I unrooted yesterday, will see how it goes this week. I'm not trying to pay big money for a phone right now so we'll see how it plays out.
OK I give up. The problem is intermittent. I'm going to do a log cat next time cause I'm getting about irritated. SOme times it works fine some times not. I've not unrooted or changed anything since the initial problem.
The only thing I can possibly thing is that some of the commands installed by busybox is screwing up the works.
Short of that nothing REALLY changes that could affect the operation of the phone.
What doesn't bare that idea out however is the fact that it EVER works.
**STUMPED**
It does the exact same thing on a completely unmodified phone. Therefore, it's nothing you did to it that's cause the problem.
I have the same thing on mine but it was something with the format of the card.
I flipped it to windows media sync mode then backed up the card and after the backup I unmounted the card and let the atrix format it.
I had the card in a atrix 1 before I put it in the atrix 2 so I do not know if this is the case or not.
This has now been working with out a problem for 4 days now
Same thing happened to my phone, I never rooted it.
Confirmed user error.

Thank you seraphielx! Shortly before finding this thead, I'd noticed that I had a rather large number of files in the LOST.DIR on my SDcard. Which coincided with the seemingly random disappearance of some of the apps I'd moved there. And when I pulled the SDcard to back it up on my PC, there were nearly 600mb worth of files in the LOST.DIR. Most of which were photos, plus (I think) some apps. Thank God I make regular backups!
I believe the problem, at least in my case, has to do with the fact that I could pull the SDcard without first pulling the battery; which I did when I swapped the stock 2gb card for my 32gb card right after I bought the phone. Thus corrupting many files, and probably the file system on the card as well.
After backing up what remained of my storage files, I tried to format the SDcard in the Atrix2, but It wouldn't let me select the option to format, and neither could I unmount the SDcard. So I powered down the phone, pulled the card and formatted it from my PC. Poped it back in the phone, powered up, and was then able to format it with the Atrix2. Since then I've had no issues with accessing usb mass storage, nor with disappearing apps and photos.
Thanx again for the assistance!
For me sometimes it takes a few minutes before I can access sdcard from PC.
Usually it works instantly after phone reboot while not plugged in pc, then it takes ages...

Update: OK, I can't unmount my SDcard, again. Which, of course, means I can't access usb mass storage anymore. The only I've changes made since my last post were to install some apps and change some status bar icons via Rom Toolbox, and I can't believe that has anything with the issue.
If I do a factory reset, will I need to root again?
If you have any apps installed on your SD card you will continue to have problems.

Have you check on Storage Setting ( Settings > Storage > SD card) either the SDCard already mounted (if mounted it will show Unmount SD card if not it will state mount SD card).
If it mounted and you have Custom Recovery try boot to Recovery and try mount and see if it working on Recovery. If not it maybe your cable/micro SD card/computer have problem.
If it not working check the ROM page either they have support this feature or not, or maybe you have to reflash the ROM again.
I think it was the shizilon v41 I flashed and maybe picked something wrong. Because a reinstalled the from and it back working. Kinda strange. I don't know what happened really. But I fixed it. Thanks
No diskdrive
I have the same problem.
I am on Android Revolution 6.6.3. and have been for quiet some time. Never had any problems. Until a few days ago all of a sudden:
1. The pop up option for charge or diskdrive dissappeared when plugging in the cable
2. The icon in the drop down menu has also dissappeared
The strange thing is:
- The phone however IS charging.
- I tried a different cable; same result
- I tried 3 different computers (winx64, winx32 and apple) same result
- I did the total disassemble (remove battery and sd card) and reassemble
- I can acces my SD card in my phone; it is working ok
- Settings are set for automatic connect as diskdrive
- I did not install any app that has to do with performance of SD card or stuff like that
Don't know what to do anymore: anobody got a clue???
For the first time something like that happened to me the other day... What I did was change ports, then I wiggled the USB connections, mine were not connecting as they should, once I did that it finally recognised it, but I think it's in the cable..... So after I reconnected and wiggled port connections it poped up. Tells me I need a new USB.again........this is my second USB I'm a short time. Sometimes they go bad. Perhaps this is your problem too? Fiddle with it and see if connection is the problem. Hope this helps in some way
Good luck

I got a Xoom for free a couple days ago, I decided I wanted to put KitKat on it, I didn't really like how 4.1 looked. I installed ClockworkMod Recovery on it to, but I can't push any files to it using 'adb push 'filename'', this is because adb does not recognize my device. I believe this is because there is no driver installed. In Device Manager it shows up as "Xoom" in the "Other Devices" dropdown. I've downloaded and installed the drivers previously from this link (can't post links because I'm new, the name of the program is Motorola Device Manager ), but while in recovery, they don't seem to work. When I try to run the driver installer while in recovery, it does not install any drivers, and Windows cannot find any drivers. So, any suggestions?
Edit: I booted back to the factory OS and tried installing the driver there through Motorola Device Manager, but it says to switch the device into "Media Device" mode (MTP), which it is already in.

Are you using the correct cable? Have you tried using another USB port?
I'm assuming you have a memory card. So if you had a custom recovery already installed why not pull the SD card out of the xoom and move the files required for custom os onto that directly from computer.

No. If you have recovery already loaded, then place the rom of choice on the card insert in xoom and install from SD card. No formatting required on card.
