BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN FLASHING OR MODIFYING THE RADIO.IMG AS THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO BRICK YOUR PHONE
All of the update.zips work 100% of the time. There has been no report of brick and i have used all of them at least once. if you dont like a new radio flash the old one. Good luck!
the stock radio.img is from the 1.56 RUU for the SPRINT CDMA HERO
There are three Radios here. stock, 2.41.04.02.03, and 2.42.00.03.10. they are in order from release date. high number=newer. radios are risky so i suggest sticking with one. they almost never cause worse performance. if you TRULY feel your signal has degraded i put the stock in here for you to return to.
Update!2 ok so with the new release of 2.42.01.04.27 i was kinda on the ehhh bar with it. i never like new releases because they will always take something from you.
so in this case they have taken the ability to use data with a .27 kernel. so if you flash this radio, you will not get data with any rom that has .27. including the fresh toast 1.1 and all 1.5's. so its up to you. i didnt gain one thing from this radio. battery life and signal stay 100% the same. i did lose data though.
so personally i would stick with 2.42.00.03.10

Just to be sure ... I am only asking this as a precaution as I do not want to brick my phone. These are for the SPRINT CDMA HERO correct? And when you say STOCK you mean the Radio that was originally installed on the SPRINT CDMA HERO like "out of box" so to speak?... Again I'm asking to clear up assumptions. a.k.a. (Click happy readers)
Is this for 1.5 as well or is this to be used only on fresh 2.0b

I updated the radio to 2.41.04.02.02 earlier today and saw my download speeds decrease by about 50%. So I finally tried to flash back the Stock radio posted here. The good news it didn't brick my phone but it also didn't work. My phone still shows version 2.41.04.02.02. When I did the flash of the Stock radio file I never saw any error message and I didn't see the message about extracting radio file. Any ideas? Thanks

well i just retried it with the attached signed stock radio.img and it worked correctly. you may want to double check that in nandroid you are selecting the stock one not the 2.41.04.02.03-signed.zip one

ok i think i know what caused this. although it says its still 2.blahblah its rlly the stock. the manifest isnt right so i guess it didnt apply. ill have a fix up but for right now your set with the stock radio.
It was the Stock img because is was the last one in the list to select. Are you using the instructions from geekforme to do the flash. That is what I was following.

yes you did it right. it should have worked although it still shows the old baseband. you now have the old radio. its not updating that for some reason i will fix once i find out why
Can anyone else confirm decreased data speeds?

Are you saying that my phone is now using the stock radio ver 1? If you are, I don't think it is because my download speeds are still way slower then before I did the ver 2 update.
Speedtest.net app available in market:
Phone was reset, then ATK was run killing all open apps. Test run at 12:30am so shouldn't be too much tower traffic, although my speeds never fall below 1000kbps
FACTORY RADIO

2239kbps down 671kbps up 285ms ping
Test 2 (5/6 bars):
1716kbps down 766kbps up 326ms ping
Test 3 (5/6 bars):

Test 2 (5/6 bars):
1671kbps down 715kbps up 183ms ping
Test 3 (5/6 bars):

The decreased ping time is very obvious. Web sites start loading just a hair bit faster. The results are obvious ping times were cut in half!

No. this won't work. These are .sbf files so they have to be flashed via rsdlite. They CANNOT be flashed with clockwork and will probably screw up your phone more if you do. Boot your phone into bootloader, connect to your pc, and use rsdlite to use these files.
Before you do that, though, try a battery pull. Do that a few times and it might get you into clockwork.

Sorry dude but you'll lose your Metro flash. It will have to be reflashed. If you don't want to pay to have it flashed, I would start reading some online flashing manuals.
On the other hand, does anyone know where I can get the 2.2.1 files?

okay. so i flashed my droid with the 2.01, not knowing which version it was on before it got bricked.
the backlight turns on, but NOTHING ELSE shows up.
when i flashed the SBF to the droid with RSDLITE, the bootloader shows the SW UPDATE in progress, but it still boots to NOTHING...and when i try to go to the bootloader, all that is shown is the blank backlit screen..same when starting the droid.
i'm confused as to what exactly is missing here...the stock SBF is flashed, yet it still won't boot??
edit: tried 2.1, same problem!! currently trying 2.2...i'll update when it's done.
2.2 same problem.

As long as you can get into the bootloader, yes.
I downloaded each one of these and tried to do this with RSD Lite but it keeps telling me it fails.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Would someone be able to assist me?
No data
Ok, my droid lost data connection ( no 3g or 1x icon) it has just the phone´s signal strength bars, wifi works fine, and the icon only appears momentarly when I turn of data connection in wireless settings or turn on airplane mode. So I read some place that I had to run sbf files to reset radio or change radio, actually my phone has Steel Droid v.10.2 (gingerbread 2.3.7) on it.
So my question is if it´s ok to run any of these sbf files on my droid, and will it get stock radio?

That should work. It's also possible to flash the radio on its own through ROM Manager.
Anyone have a mirror for the 2.0 SBF?
Couldn't find this anywhere so I thought I would ask....
I've had the White Nexus S w/ AT&T 3G Bands for a week or so now and it's been great. Running CM7 with custom kernel and all is good. For what ever reason it started giving me the "No SIM" error. I have no idea why this just happened all of the sudden like this. Anyways, AT&T was kind enough to give me a new SIM and this issue just will not go away.
I'm out of ideas on this...
Any suggestions?

I'm a Vibrant user, so I have no idea how you would do this (least I won't until Wednesday, when I get the Nexus S 4G from Sprint), but try that, may fix your problem.

It even shows the carrier info to be ATT
What should the APN settings be for AT&T?
Borrowed the APN settings off of a Bravo here inside the store and and when I save the settings it doesn't list the APN like it should. I am saving the settings but it doesn't show after its saved.

Yeah I have. I received a brand new one from AT&T when this first started.
I've given up on fixing this device. I contacted Negri Electronics and asked for an RMA. This unit has to be a lemon. This will make the first time I've ever had to send a phone back. Hopefully the replacement will be a better unit.
this has gotton significantly worse....is there any fix to this? Im currently stock. Does rooting fix? plz help
This is due to the radio on your phone, it's really bad in up here in Canada from what I have read, if you root your phone and use KB3 it will quit doing that, at lease it has stopped on both of my phones, seems it only happens in bad service areas.
What search button bug?
I got my Nexus from Canada and had the same problem.
Like the other dude said, rooting and flashing a ROM is the only way around it. You won't have any problems after that.

Can't disable that button, the radio is fairly safe to flash on this phone. I do it lots, best thing to do is download the radio, and get the md5 hash and if that matches you're golden.

You will unlock it with adb, install clockwork mod, then su to root it, then yes, just put the radio on your sdcard and flash it through clockwork mod. Make sure you know the model of your phone to, it's under battery.
This is the md5 hash I get for the KB3 radio under the "Radio for I9020a/I9020T/I9023" heading.

Read the stickies.
Quick primer:
After you get root, you can replace the recovery partition of your phone with clockworkmod. That's the "flash recovery" part. This gives you a pre-boot working environment that lets you flash ZIP files (ROMs, kernels, boot animations, radio images, etc), make backups, wipe data, etc. Using clockwork recovery you can flash a new radio firmware which apparently fixes the problem.

Clockwork Mod is the recovery you will install when you go to root your device, the numbers is the md5 hash, when you download a file you can check the md5 to see if it is corrupt in any way.
umm ok i rooted via one click root mechanism....how do i apply zip from sd card now? i dl'd rom manager and flashed clockwork mod. Now what
Shut down your phone, hold up volume and press and hold power button until you see a screen with your phone info, then use volume key to select recovery and hit power button to select it. You should be in clock work then, go to install zip from sd card

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but rooting and/or flashing a radio will not solve this issue.
What you are describing is a known issue and it is a hardware defect. The touch buttons sometimes incorrectly register a long-press and execute long-press behavior. It affects different buttons on different phones. On phones where the search button is affected, you see long-press behavior of voice search opening. On my phone, back button is affected, so I see long-press of back button behavior. It seems to stop after ten seconds. And sometimes home button is affected, and I see the "recent apps" screen appear.
You can read about the issue here:

radio flashed and problem solved thanks for ur help guys
So I've updated my i9020A to 4.0.4 (official) downloaded on XDA and flashed over 2.3.6 stock. Worked fine and everything but I'm always getting low signal bars (none or one, two).

Is there another radio I should use or anyone with same device and similar issues?
Thanks!

It happens cause the stock rom restores the recovery every time you reboot the phone.
If you want to stick with stock flash for example Brainmaster's stock ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569796
1 - Flash CWM from Fastboot
2 - Mount SD card from Recovery
3 - Put the rom in the SD card
4 - Flash it
If you don't mind about stock, you can use AOKP/CM9, etc with the same procedure:
1 - Flash CWM from Fastboot
2 - Mount SD card from Recovery
3 - Put the rom in the SD card
4 - Flash it
About the radio, you should search in the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Search for opinions about the best radio for your area, or try to see if you get better signal with one of them.
Rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to something else, or delete it. When you flash recovery one more time it will stick.
As for your radio issue, i'm unsure as i don't have the 850Mhz band on mine.
