Hello everyone,
I just bought nexus s here in canada unlocked from craiglist. The phone came rooted. I am complete noob with android and just starting learn the whole game. So i wanted to set this phone factory setting and learn everything from scratch. (i.e. rooting it myself and all that). Also my auto-rotate feature does not work at the moment, and up on reading through google, I figured that resetting to factory setting will solve it. Anyway, the phone is running android 2.3.4, baseband is I9020XXKD1 and kernel is 2.6.35.7-ge382d80 and build is GRJ22. I found the following guide here on XDA. I want to make sure if my specs are okay to use the following guide. Like i said i am complete new to android and still trying to hang of things and I donno how the phone was orignially rooted. Maybe this might help. my phone has application Reboot tool, ROM Manager, Superuser.. So i want someone to confirm that following guide would be okay to use to reset to factory setting or please hint me something.. I am finding it hard to follow a guide since I don't know how the phone was originally rooted. Sorry for making this insanely long and thanks in advance.
UNROOTING.........
Get files (can't post the link since i am new user but its 4shared links found in this forum)
-download and extract files, we will be using odin, the 3 tar files.
-extract tar files to desktop along with odin.
-run odin and in the files section select the boxes bootloader, pda, phone.
-click the buttons next to each and direct it to the .tar files we extracted to desktop, so....
click the bootloader box, direct it to sph-d720-bootloader.tar ...then..
click the pda button direct it toward the sph-d720-pda.tar....then..
click the phone button and direct it toward sph-d720-phone.tar....
-now turn off your phone, when off hold volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously, then quickly press the power button....a huge yellow triangle will pop up and say "downloading'.......
plug your phone via usb to computer....odin should automatically see it.....click the start button in odin and let it do its thing and bam...all set.
If you want stock recovery too place the recovery.img in tools folder, open command prompt..type the following command..
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Done.

Hi all,
Here is my sad saga.
Today, I decided I wanted to move up to ICS. I had 2.3.4 on a Koodoo phone that I decided was ready for the brave new world of ICS (bought it off Kijiji, now running it on Rogers which means I have no option of bringing it into a shop).
Ran into some issues but some good folks saved my butt in a number of tough spots. However, my grave seems to have been dug deeper by the minute. Essentially, I have managed to upgrade to 4.0.3. but am stuck with no 3G connection, hence no phone signal. This is a HUGE issue since I require my phone for work (foolish move #1 of the night).
Here are things I have tried and the challenges I have faced thus far:
1) CWM. Have not been able to access it or install it successfully. However have somehow managed to root the device. I did it through a one-click root/CWM tool I found online but have never been able to access CWM from the recovery screen, only stock recovery.
2) Changing the radio baseband version. Fail, since I have no CWM. Or Root Explorer because...
3) I can't access the google Market as I have no data connection. And did I mention no wireless? I live out in a rural area (sad story #1). It's ethernet only, sadly
4) Also, I have very limited access to a PC. I do have one at work, but I have my own macbook. Although I could use the PC at work to try some stuff out, I can't be spending my entire day Googling for help. Seems like employers would frown greatly on it. I've already spent a solid 4 hours on the forums and Internet tonight trying to find something that works. Absolutely no dice.
5) Attempted to get back to 2.3.6. No joy. Phone won't budge from 4.0.3. and I think it has to do a huge part with no CWM.
6) Factory reset a number of times. Still stuck on 4.0.3. with no 3G connection.
7) Reset APNs to default. Still no luck. Perhaps it isn't the radio baseband after all?
8) Also tried entering and leaving airplane mode a number of times. Zero luck.
9) I have a pretty low comfort level with PCs to be honest. I am open to all instructions, as long as they are detailed and written For Dummies.
Please help. I really, truly do not know what else to do or where else to turn but the forums. I've tried everything I could think of and I'm afraid this will impact my job since I need to be in constant phone contact for work. I'm exhausted from stress and worry. I swear this will be the last time I experiment with my phone (I know I've said it before, but this time I MEAN it!)
Thank you all you kind-hearted folk out there for anything you can do to help.
first cell phone model you have and that you had changed baseband before all ... You can also try a new version of CMW in case, can also be kernel problem that uses TO in the mobile ...
So you have a nexus with barely PC access running ics minus a recovery. Good news is your in luck. You need proper tools to do the job. Easiest method is either on that Mac or at work, install the phones drivers. search Google for the fastboot binary for the operating system your using. Once the drivers are installed boot to fast boot not recovery but the screen where you choose recovery. Open a terminal on the PC and type fastboot devices. No period. Should return a serial number on the screen. Your good to go. When you download the fastboot program, put it in a folder on the PC. Also put cwm for your phone in a .img format not a .zip. That should give you a name like cwm-2.5.5.0.img. When you open the terminal, navigate to the folder with both files. After typing fastboot devices and seeing the number type fastboot flash recovery cwm-and-whatever.img
That should give you cwm.
Also you got root have you tried downloading rommanager apk from the net putting it on the sd then installing. Once it installs try to flash recovery from the app

You have to relax first lol. When you're panicky nothing gets done so calm down. Do what the guy above says. Install cwm with fast boot. First install the android sdk then get the drivers. Get fast boot file down as well. Remember that the command fastboot flash whatever varies from operating systems.
With cwm installed, do a test. Backup your efs folder , which is essentially extremely important. You would better do a nandroud backup. Then, try various radios. See if that's your issue. If not change to trying out new roms . Worse case scenario go back to your 2.3.6 rom by flashing with cwm or install cyanogen mod 7.
Best of luck

Follow dreamsforgotten's instructions should get you out of the problem.
And yeah, relax.
You flashed the wrong ROM. the i9020a never got 4.0.3, it went straight from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4. you flashed a ROM for the i9020/i9023. This means that you have a US modem, a problem with those in the gingerbread days is that if you toggled 3G off, you lost it.
Now, I'm not 100% sure this will fix your issue, it *will* bring you back to proper stock image for your phone. Also, keep in mind, that you are responsible for anything you do to your phone, I in no way take any responsibility.
Instructions are for windows
Start by downloading the factory image:
Factory image for your phone
(ref) https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Uncompress this file, you will need the following files:
Image-sojua-imm76d.zip
bootloader-crespo-i9020xxkl1.img
radio-crespo-i9020uckj1.img
Put these all in a folder, you'll need them shortly
Now you need to connect your phone to the computer. follow this guide, part 1 ONLY:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007782
You should still be in the bootloader when you do the following steps, (turn phone off, press and hold the volume down, power up the phone)
Grab a copy of fastboot.exe and put it in the folder with the IMG files (PM me if you can't find one)
Now, test to make sure your phone is seen by fastboot:
Open a cmd prompt and go to the folder where the img files and fastboot are stored.
Type: fastboot devices
you should get a response like this:
C:\temp\nexus image files>fastboot devices
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx fastboot
(x's will be alphanumeric)
This means that fastboot can now see your device. if you get nothing, something went wrong above.. troubleshoot that.
If everything is good, start flashing:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-crespo-i9020xxkl1.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-crespo-i9020uckj1.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w update image-sojua-imm76d.zip
Reboot your phone and be *Very* patient with the first boot.
You should now be good.
Thanks all so very much for all the help! It was extremely helpful and really helped to get my head around things.
What I ended up doing was (for those who might be stuck in the same situation as me):
1) Wipe everything. EVERYTHING. Used fastboot into CWM to help me do that.
2) Put in Kustom Kream found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399956
3) CM9 from here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=crespo
* Not super stable to be honest; I've had at least three times where my entire phone randomly shut down and went into the CM9 boot screen and was stuck there until I did a battery pull. Reinstalled each time through CWM. Hope this gets fixed soon!
I found that Kustom Kream put CWM AND rooted my phone AND had everything working in terms of radio bands, sending SMS, etc. I originally had major issues with radios but now I have KB3 although the signal is kind of weak. Maybe because I live in a relatively far out suburban area?
But this solved my problems. Good luck to anyone out there stuck where I am, I feel your pain!
I would recommend that you at least flash a radio that is designed to work with your model - ucjk. That way you won't have any issues if you toggle to 2G.

New here, don't bite so hard. I have the Samsung Galaxy S 4G. A while back I read that in order to root this device I have to upgrade from stock firmware to GB 2.3.6. Maybe I used a bad Kernel or something, but I have tried everything to root this thing. So I figured if I can go back to stock firmware to a new kernel for 2.3.6, maybe I can get this thing rooted... Sorry guys

Follow the bottom link. (All steps are provided)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470716
What you need: A Windows 7 system computer or laptop. NO windows 8(connecting issue) or Mac Please.
Install Java first into your computer!!
1. Put your device into "Download Mode". (Shut off your phone, pressing the up/down volume button and connect your phone to Windows 7 systems computer, NEVER Windows 8(CAUTION) at the same time.)
2. Launch Heimdall One-Click
3. Verify that the package is intended for your device, then click flash.
4. If the device will not boot, check the "flash bootloaders" checkbox and click flash again
After Finish flashing,
Download Superoneclick and check USB debugging on your phone in Settings->development.
Then, Press Root on the top right corner.
If you want to flash rom or kernels, You will need CMW 5.x.x or above.
Now go this Link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610528
Download SGS Kernel flasher in Google play.
And follow the rest steps.
Whenever you want to flash a rom, just shut off your phone.
Turn on your phone again but pressing the volume up/down button (let go the power button) and keep pressing it until you see CMW(ClockWorkMod).
Then, select "install from sd card" and choose the rom that you wish to install.
Thanks to lumin30 who once saved my life from disaster. (Flashing a Vibrant rom when I first got this phone in 2011).
And thanks to Antox. (started my life as a superb rom flasher and for my friends.)
Okay so I've been at it for days and i mean like months.... when I first bought my 8 gb white Samsung galaxy tab 3 Kernel 3.4.5, android 4.1.2, model JZ054K.T210RUEAMK1 and all i have been running into is problems, like jittery display issues, or flickering display, I tried every method but none has worked but i finally found one and got it all working and running, First of all i would like to thank gr8nole for this method, and all who have helped him. So first let me explain the most easiest explanation for dummies like me, or noobs
Just and example video for visual learners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XolmtyvS3Yk&feature=youtu.be, but you want to click on the files i suggested on the bottom lol not what he has on his screen xD
Must Have: KIES, make sure you have fully updated rom from samsung themself which can be found on kies when you plug it in and update firmware, which your android should be on 4.1.2 and version because that's what i have
1. First lets Get all the files we need, First go download SM-T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip at his xda post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433853, after you have download that you will a friend name odin, which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539 (With odin you only want to use v3.07) and nothing else , Last but not least you want this file from gr8ole android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip and save that to your sd card or ext while click on usb debugging or w.e you wanna store in on tablet
so you should have odin 3.07
T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip
android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip
2. Use the same method as g8nole and minor adjustments
Instructions:
1. Download ODIN on your computer (just do a google search to find it...version 3.07 will work fine). http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2189539
2. Power off the device.
3. Restart in "Download Mode" by holding the "HOME" button, "Volume Down" and "Power" all at the same time (for about 5 seconds).
4. Hit the "Volume Up" to enter download mode.
5. Start the ODIN exe program using admin rights which means right click run as admin. I recommend un-checking Auto Reboot. DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION LEAVE UNCHECKED YOU BEEN WARNED (which it already should be). See notes about ODIN below.
6. Connect the device via USB to your computer. Verify the device shows as "Added" in the Message box. If it doesn't show then you need the Samsung USB drivers (just install KIES to get them) which can be found here http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/.
7. Select "PDA" then choose the T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip.
8. Hit "START"
9. Wait for device to restart. Which means wait til odin says OKAY in the white box and the Picture ask you to reset, When the download icon under download updates is full bar, and odin says reset!, just unplug it. then restart by holding the power button down, with vol up, and home, once the samsung picture shows, only hold the up vol button, recovery mode should now be on. Select install zip, and locate the android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip)navigate with the up down volume button and power button to select) file, whichever you placed in sd, or exsd,
10. When all is done reboot device, then it will update your android once you turn it on, Now the anoying part, It will be rooted but what google play won't connect?, easy fix , first lets just update all the binaries since its already rooted in supersu app,
Google Store Fix, now first you have to delete your some things, your apps wont dissapear or nothing as long as you dont uinstall them, go to settings<application manager<all<google play store<clear data/cache w.e<force stop<uninstall updates<it will then ask you it will be factory installed<yes, next step, delete your gmail account if you haven't done so, now go to your time settings (Date and Time) and change it to recent date whichever today is , then open play store and it will ask you to sign in again, blah blah google needs sign up and it should be up and running
ALL DONE, remember this is for people who have run into flicker display problems, which is caused by kernal issue with our model, but with stock rom itself we can universally root it through odin with just that simple method which took me like 3 mins lol to do
Grats guys! you have root and cwm now who doesn't want that enjoy and thanks to developers hard work! and my ambition!
this worked for my SM-T210 also. Thanks heaps for this how-to!
Ok my device is already rooted but I would like to install CWM Recovery on it. So I can make a backup. Or does anyone have the stock kernel for it

But you can also use Odin 3.09.
I'm portant is that you flash always the newest CWM / TWRP or PhilzTouch Version about the new updater scripts.

Your best option is to get CWM sknce it will be your original backup instead of a Rom created from another device.
SM-T2105?
Hello,
I came here beacause of a shorcut link given by @gr8nole and another member (I forgot sorry).
But my English must be to bad, i read and re-read, still don't find the answer...
I have the G Tab 3 kids model, SM-T2105.
@bierma32 says: "Important is that you flash always the newest CWM / TWRP or PhilzTouch Version"
Could you tell me wich one is the best, CMW or TWRP, plz? (the last I can find for T210 is CMW-6.0.4.9 and/or TWRP-2.8.2.0)
More important, do you know where I can find the zip of a rooted stock rom, including that 'kids' stuff? (SM-T2105). Or will I not loose the stock rom? Is there no wipe? Sorry, I don't understand.
I want to root, because of lack of space, and the rest.. but I don't want to loose that..
And the most important, "last but not least", I could not find the zip " android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip", so can you help me please, putting a mirror or so? Or could it work only with flashing a SuperSU zip? Not so easy, right?
As you maybe can read, I am a newbie in Android rooting. Or is there another way to do?
Thanks for reply.
Hello everyone,
I got Atrix 2 from my friend. I really like the phone except few things:
1. I can't arrange the icons manually.
2. Mine is Indian version mobile & it doesn't support any Call Recorder. I can install the recording app, but it is not working.
3. There is no bubble type notification for any app like - WhatsApp, Gmail, Facebook etc.
4. There is no quick access Icons in notification area for Bluetooth, Mobile Data, Wi-Fi etc like Samsung.
This is my first Android phone so I don't know anything about CFW & how to install in my phone.
Anyone please help me to install CFW step by step
I'm Running Android 4.0.4 Official Firmware.
When I Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons, a black screen appears says:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
0A.73
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
When I Press and hold both Volume Up & Down + Power, a black screen appears says:
Boot Mode Selection Menu (0A.73)
Vol Up Selects, Vol Down Scrolls
Available Boot Modes:
Normal Powerup
Recovery
AP Fastboot
BP Tools
When I select Recovery, First show the Moto Emblem & then stuck with logo with triangle exclamation .
When I select Fastboot & BP Tools, my boot as normal.
1. What is Recovery Mode? How to install this?
2. What is ROOT? How to ROOT?
3. Which one do first - Install Recovery Mode or ROOT?
4. If I need to install CFW, do I need to copy all the files in Memory card or use RSD (I seen one video in youtube)?
SEEN LOTS OF POSTS SAYING 'HOW TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS' & I MORE CONFUSED WITH Recovery Mode, ROOT, RDS.
IF THERE IS A DOWNLOAD LINK, IT'S OK. BUT PLEASE DON'T GIVE LINK TO 'FOLLOW THIS'!!!

If this is your first android then you're going about it all wrong. It is highly recommended that you take the time to read about what you're doing and what you need to do to get to where you want to be with this phone. I'm strongly opposed to reiterating step by step directions because I feel it leads to trouble for new users that, too quickly, get in over their heads without the necessary knowledge to get themselves out of trouble but I'll help you with some general info to get you started.
The very first thing you should do is find out which FXZ (stock firmware) is the correct one for your specific phone. Then you'll need to download RSD lite and familiarize yourself with how to use it for flashing the stock firmware. If/when it becomes necessary to use these tools you'll be glad that you took the time to learn rather than searching and posting frantically to figure out how to recover a soft brick.
Stock recovery is useless for what you're trying to accomplish.
There are multiple root methods available and can be found in both the general section as well as the development section. After you get rooted you'll need to download and install Boot Menu Manager (aka BMM) in order to install custom ROMs. There are tutorials on how to install and use BMM in the general section.
The most important tool you can have at this stage is patience. Take the time to educate yourself and you won't be sorry. Good luck and welcome to the community.
Thank you 1BadWolf.
I don't know which FXZ (stock firmware) is the correct for my phone.

Can u tell me which FW is that & download link?

At the top of your screenshot you'll see the system version as
672.1.18.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
Go to this page:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=17
And find the corresponding firmware that will say
Blur_Version.672.1.18.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
That's the one you need.
I'd say that once you download that and RSD lite then familiarize yourself with what to do with it via:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909319
then you be safe to go ahead and root it. You'll need root to get a good backup of everything anyway. The main thing is learning to recover from a soft brick before it happens. That thread has all the info you need for that.

That's it. Just root and install BMM then you'll be ready to go. After that comes the hard part.... deciding which of the awesome ROMs to install, hahaha. :sly:

I had a problem where my Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M) was stuck in a boot loop because of the Lollipop 5.0.1 update. I tried everything from going into recovery mode and factory resetting it to doing the smack method on it. Then I found this way by flashing the Android Kitkat 4.4.2 ROM back into my phone via Odin. Here are the steps to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.2:
NOTE: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. please proceed if you know what you are doing.
Before you start:
Turn on USB debugging by going to Settings>More>Developer Options. (If you don't have developer options, go to Settings>More>About device and press the build number 5-10 times and developer mode will be enabled)
Make sure battery is charged at least 50%
Backup everything if you can or make sure you have a backup already done.
Have your phone plugged into the computer
After you done those things, you ready to begin. Here is what to do:
1. Download Odin v3.09. You can download it by copy and pasting the link. odindownload.com/
2. Download the firmware for your phone. Go to sammobile.com (You will have to create a free account first) and look up your model. (For Example: you will search SGH-I337M if you have a Canadian Galaxy S4). The Model info should be behind the battery. If you don’t know or can’t find it, comment below and I will find it for you. Make sure you have the right carrier as well if it says so.
NOTE: Downloading the firmware may take a while if you have a slow internet connection. If you have a slow internet connection, make sure your computer doesn't sleep overnight while its downloading.
3. Extract both files to your computer.
4. Open Odin v3.09
5. On your Galaxy S4, Turn off your device. When its shut off, press the Power>Hone, and VOLUME DOWN key at the same time. You will see this pop up. (Image called 5-custom-os-warning.jpg. Click file for picture if you don't understand)
You will press volume up. Then you will see this. (Image called 4-downloading.jpg . Click file for picture if you don't understand)
DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE WHEN THIS SHOWS UP!
5. Open Odin v3.09. Click the AP Button.
(Image called Odin-3.09.jpg . Click file for picture if you don't understand)
6. Look for the firmware you downloaded and click open. You will have to wait a bit until the firmware is in Odin. You will know when its finished when you see the file name in the AP box.
7. Click START. You will have to wait as the process takes 5-10 minutes. The phone will reboot once or twice. then the welcome screen should pop up. and you are DONE. You have successful downloaded Android KitKat 4.4.2.
Enjoy!

Does this same procedure work for downgrading to JellyBean MDJ firmware? Or can Lollipop only be downgraded to Kitkat?
Thanks.
Brother my 9505 have custom lollipop now.can I this process for back to kk?or its for only stock lollipop to kk?
yes, it can also be downgraded to MDJ firmware... I just tried yesterday. However, WiFi and phone call are not working. I then flashed to 4.4.2 and works perfectly since then.
HI, is not neccesary to install BL and PDA? Only AP? Thanks !!!
Is this working on SHV-E330L?
