Just as the title says really, interested to know if any of you have dropped your iPhone4 in favour of the Nexus S and if so are you happy with your choice?
I have a reason for asking this and it's for neither iPhone or Nexus bashing purposes
My brother did. He is loving the NS.
Sent from my Nexus S
I did. Reasons: tmobile promo data plan 1500 min, unl texts and data for 80.00 month.
Also love android. That being said, I miss media features and games of iOS. Also things I hate about att is the fact that you can't download a file bigger than 10 mb olvia 3g or the fact that youtube quality suck on 3g. And all of that after fork out 30 dollars a month. On t mobile you don't have any of those restrictions and you pay the same.
I decided to vote with my wallet ant give my money to tmobile ans google/ samsung.
Like I said, I really miss ios media features but I'm trying to live without ios. I understand that my reqsoning has more to do with carrier itslef rather than iphone 4, but all those things I mentioned above as a whole made me switch to nexus s and tmobile.

One reason I almost did is I really liked the TV tube effect when you press the sleep button. Instead I ported it to the iPhone ;-) Watch here:

I did. Between the plan price and gingerbread I can say I'm totally satisfied.

I switched over from iPhone 4 and Rogers (kinda like ATT even in terms of pricing) to the Nexus S on Mobilicity (40$ unlimited everything plan) but I kinda wish I hadn't now. Main reason is that I used to use FaceTime ALL THE TIME on my iPhone 4 and expected Google to back the Nexus S up with some kinda of video chat but they didnt and Tango is lacking...
may not be the same thing, but a friend of mine has an iPhone4 and i let him play around with my phone for a lil and he loves it, wishes he could switch
Thanks all, reason I ask is that I was considering going the other way! IPhone as stock would be a definite no but a jailbroken iPhone is another ball game.
Carrier aside, I'm buying sim free so its the £430 Nexus S I currently have or return and buy the £500 iPhone 4.
Really can't make up my mind!
why do you need to ask other people to give you an oppinon, im sure you can formulate your own.

Please don't get defensive just because I mentioned I MAY prefer the iPhone 4.
I'm not asking for anyone's opinion on whether I should switch, I'm asking those that HAVE switched (albeit the other way) if they are happy with their decisions.

Im not getting offended, ive owned iPhones in the past, but what im saying is that, your asking people if they have switched and what reasons, everyone has there own opinion on the devices, why not formulate your own,
there reasons/opinions may not reflect how you feel. Chances are if your debating on switching thats enough of a reason to go and get yourself a iPhone
I did and love it. I was expecting to miss the fluidity of iOS, but Gingerbread has surprised me despite the improvements I knew it had made in this area.

No, I am asking people if they have switched and if they are happy that they did so, I'm not asking for (or interested in) reasons and I am not asking specifically for opinions of either device.
Most people who have replied to this thread so far have understood my question, thankfully.
The Nexus S is a great device and I have barely touched my laptop in the time I have had it. The iPhone also has its merits and like anything its all swings and roundabouts!

Fascinating. Obviously, you have friends and family with Mac's but you are the first person I've read that uses FT all the time. You came to rely on it that much?
I switched from iphone 3g to ns, and am living it.theres nothing major that I could on iphone that I can't do on ns. internationalization support (japanese) ime sucks on android, you have to rely on 3rd party support, but otherwise I'm very happy. love the notifications and tight google integration.

I just got the NS as my first smartphone after reading about various devices for a while (and not having a new phone in like 4 years), and so far I'm just stunned by the transition from my old dumbphone. My final choice was between the iPhone and the NS, as I see both as being comparatively high end phones for the two OS's. A buddy of mine has the iPhone 4, which I played around with for a while, but I ultimately went with the NS because the general user experience doesn't feel so controlled. That said, as a smartphone newbie, I think they're both really impressive devices.
Also, my old carrier was ATT, and they were starting to annoy me for various reasons.

Didn't ditch the iPhone, but ditched ATT for T-Mobile's more reasonably priced plans.

first of all. its nice to have people feedback. thats why these forum exists. sure everyone can formulate on his own. we are not stupid. try to get that. and try to understand that its a actually a smart thing to do to ask for people feedback before making your own. thats why its called feedback. maybe you can provide X Y points why you didnt or why you did switch etc. and the user find it valuable information where he agrees with you. dont act like a smart ass who knows everything.
to stay on topic. no i didnt . i had galaxy S and i sold it for iphone 4. simply because i think the ios is more polished device out of the box. with cydia its amazing phone. i play like a 2 hours at least of games on mobile these days so that was a plus for the iphone. plus the device it self as hardware look sexier in my eyes than galaxy S or nexus S " just personal, other people might not agree"
what i miss tho is the bigger screen of android 4 inch compared to 3.5.
also. i am waiting for CES, its in few days. many of the new phones are going to be annouced in that show. it will be intresting to see.
and on the another hand. this month the LG optimus 2x coming out. while i know its an LG device. it also has much superior hardware than nexus S. aka dual core processor. tegra 2 gpu from nvidia and 1080p video recording.
my advise is to you or to anyone who didnt buy the nexus S. is to wait. see whats coming, then decide. the only reason you would want a nexus S is if u want pure google experiance. and to get updates as soon as they come out " even tho this is bull****. nexus 1 was said to be also pure google experiance to get updates as soon google get them out. and yet, they still didnt get 2.3 . i assume the same thing will happen when google partner up with new company for another nexus phone and new OS. and nexus S owners have to wait for the OS to be released on their system much like what the nexus 1 users are doing. "
its nothing but a marketing crap. yay. i got 2.3....1 yay before anyone else... :/
Why does the Nexus S seem to create such strong opinions that people feel the need to come on here and put it down and bore the pants off us about dual *yawn* core and the latest handsets? Is it misplaced inadequacy or are Nexus S really that bad?
First off, the Nexus S is a great device. I think the polarization factor comes from two directions, first is envy. The second was this vision that the Nexus device should be this flawless god of phones. It is not, it is a dev phone, a playground for people to experiment with, and most people don't really get that.
its bassically a Googles test rabbit or rat.
I haven't seen any negative topics about the Nexus S for about a month now. Maybe about certain aspects of Gingerbread, but that's it. You should have been here when it was first released. Man, it was annoying. As Kah-Neth said, some people think a Nexus S phone is the god of all phones or have to set a new standard for other manufacturers to follow.
IMO, NFC is going to be a standard which will be implemented in other phones soon enough. New processors such as dual cores isn't much of thing to set a standard for since a 1 ghz single core processor is good enough.
You missed the "Nexus S shines against the...." thread. Apparently there are people out there who dont even own an NS and whose sole purpose for posting on this board is to call us fanboys because we dare discuss on a NS board how the NS is a better device than these "superior" DC phones like the Atrix.
Seems to me that envy must play a part...if it was not out of envy for a high end, latest Google running frankly awesome device like a Nexus, certain people would be on the HTC wildfire forums or something droning on about how low end that device is (no disrespect to wildfire btw).
Seriously though, instead of being jealous, just save your pennies up and buy a second hand nexus S
Honestly I dont see why people envy this phone. I would have been content with keeping my g2, I feel like support between the g2 os and gingerbread is equal because we dont have alot of support as far as this os. This is why I'm currently in the move of trading for a iphone 4 they have constant updates and support whereas we are still waiting for support from skype who keeps backing out as well as other things that should be mandatory with the phones launch. When people see the phone I have they are more excited than me. I guess cause I'm rom'd out and dont have anything else to do with the phone. Who knows.

Not only is there envy -- theres pomposity -- check this out from an unnamed nexus s owner i found whining somewhere off XDA
"I purchased a Nexus S under the assumption that Google would not be releasing a new version until a new iteration of Android was released. Now, with the rumors mounting that this may not be the case what if anything will be Google's response to users who already purchased a Nexus S? In similar cases, Apple has consistently offered refunds to consumers, will Google follow suit or will you choose instead to alienate some of your most loyal user base? I can honestly say that if the latter is true then I will be reconsidering continuing my support of the Android platform."

Yes that is my question. Where did I say anything about not wanting other people to have it? If that bothered me why not complain when the at&t version passed through the FCC. Nor did I ever say that Google should do something for me personally. I've owned my phone for over a month. I don't expect them to cut me a check. I do expect them to do something for the people who buy it close to the announcement. So now expecting morality from a company whose motto is "don't be evil" is pompous or ballsy?
Heck I don't expect them to do anything at all. Period. I posted that question to let Google know I was frustrated with this situation. If either of us is being pompous or ballsy it is you for making some pretty bold assumptions about what I meant.

The answer is simple: expectations.
People expected very much from the Nexus S. It is a phone from Google after all. When the first rumors came, the Nexus S was going to be the first phone with dual-core, it would have Android 3.0, and it would be just awesome. When the Nexus S turned about to be something completely different, the crowd was dissapointed.
In that regard they were right. The Nexus S isn't very 'new' in terms of hardware. But as a smartphone it is very well build, and I'm not talking about the build quality. And that is what people seem to forget.
Also, the crowd showed the same reaction when the Nexus One was released. It wasn't really that special. But when the Nexus S was released, they were al saying: the Nexus One is so much better!
I don't know why everyone had that kind of expectations. Probably because it is a Google phone, and Google = Android. So it has to be good. Or something. But Google brought out a solid, unique phone, and I thank them for that.
the ns is fine for me. battery life is 100 times better than my vibrant, have flash support, ffc, quick updates, looks nice, fast. i could care less about dual core because i don't play games on my phone. anyway that's just my opinion.
and yeah, haters gonna hate. screw em.

I don't know why you would even want a dual-core phone if you don't play games. I do play games, but only games like Angry Birds, and the new released Chalk Ball! Simple games, yet very good looking and very fun to play!

I'm not against dual-core! Certainly not. I think you misunderstood me. What I'm trying to say is that the 1Ghz processor in the Nexus S makes everything smooth: from swiping through homescreens to playing Angry Birds. So what can dual-core do for you then? Play better games!
Seriously, it is just the same as with computers. Only reason they get better is because of games. I've said that like a hundred times, but it is the truth.
I'm not against dual-core, I just think it's funny everyone always wants the latest hardware, even when the old hardware is still running fine!

Its just trolling. Every single phone has some of it for a few months (exp: Atrix forums got trolled by Inspire users).
What made the Nexus S particularly a good target for trolls was that fact the Nexus One set a standard for Android handsets for an entire year. Google went to HTC and said "We want the best and brand new android phone hardware to push the industry and set a standard for the year to come"
Did Google do this same thing of asking for the best hardware for the Nexus S to set a standard for an entire year? Unfortunately no. Still a great niche phone for people wanting stock android but not a game changer by any means like the original Nexus.
Thats why people were pissed and made fun of the phone. They were looking at what it could have been and got mad once they saw the failed potential of the Nexus line so they decided to take out their frustrations on the forum by trolling...

I agree, the MT4G is a very nice phone. I actually had one for a few weeks before switching to the Nexus S (never looked back), gave the MyTouch 4G to my mom -- she loves it to death.
I hated the face of the phone. Very ugly to me.
Just Curious, anyone planning on upgrading to the Galaxy S II when it becomes available?
(Also, is a rooted / custom ROM phone also unlocked?)
Nick
IIRC, the Samsung Galaxy S II has an unlocked bootloader, so yes, developers will probably start writing custom ROMs for it.
For me, I'm going to keep this phone until my 2-year contract is up. Even if I had a chance to upgrade to Galaxy S II for free, I wouldn't, because I personally don't like Samsung phones.
I don't understand these questions...This phone just came out what in Feb? Most peeps are in a 2 year contract. I know I am....
I know there are some who buy out of contract but really why ask here and not in the forum for the phone you are in question of?
Most people are going to answer you with a no.
i plan to get the HTC Holiday off-contract but only if it has an unlocked bootloader

I will preface this by saying while I make really good money( and work damned hard for it) I am not rich.
I have 2 inspires, one off contract and one on, and you can bet your sweet ass I will be getting the gs2. That is provided it lives up the hype and has proper dev support, which I imagine it will. I understand that in the inspire forum your gonna have a hard time finding anyone saying its not the best phone ever for all time, but I am not the typical owner. I dont have a "pride of ownership" complex. While I lOVE this phone, its far from perfect. The battery is a joke, the bluetooth radio is really weak, the cellular radio has a hard time, and the bottom/side covers fit poorly. Not my opinion, just what it is. The only thing that may be a bit subjective is the cellular radio signal. Buttttt I have tested 5 brand new inspires against a captivate, aria, iphone, and a dumbphone and it always has the weakest signal (in db's not F'in bars). I have flashed every radio/ril known to man, and while it will fluctuate a bit from one to another, as an average its mostly the same. I am talking strictly in signal strength (both edge/hspa) no stupid bars or speedtest.net results. I also tested the bluetooth on 3 inspires myself and had a friend test 2 and all did the same thing. It will start to break up bad if you cover the antenna(side cover) with your hand or move away from the source. This again is something I dont experience with my other plethora of phones. I tested it with 2 headsets and 2 different aftermarket headunits(car stereo). As for the battery, well come on do I really have to explain myself there. While I have gotten to get my phone to last most of the day, its still sub par.
Now dont get me wrong I absolutely love this phone, if not why would I buy 2, one off contract. Its fast, beautiful, made of quality materials, has an awesome screen, and best of all has AMAZING dev support. I only explain my issue cause I know Im gonna get flamed. I am just one of those guys that doesn't think that its the best because I own it. When we own stuff we tend to overlook issues and focus on the positives, which is fine provided it doesn't cloud your judgement. I love and have owned mustangs and camaros. I have also owned and loved yamaha's,honda's,kawasaki's,suzuki bikes. I love toys/gadgets of every maker and flavor. Hell I own an svt lightning but still dig the srt-10 and the cheby ss. And yes I have a drawer full of smartphones from htc, palm, samsung, and yes even the rotten apple.

I'd think hard about what you really want.... If you try love android as much as you say you do, you won't be happy with an iphone and you will spend more time kicking yourself then just being happy and staying on top of your studies while balancing phone stuff like a responsible adult...
That is not a flame just an honest statement.... You really should be able to moderate yourself... Checking the forums once a day and flashing a rom once a week sounds like a comfortable amount and will not distract from your studies
But if you really have to force yourself away from what you actually want then you can do that as well

iPhones typically have the best resale value but by the fall the 4S will be so old that it's hard to say. I sold my 64gb iPhone 4S for $550 to help cover the cost of my HOX, and it was beat up all to hell. I would keep the One X, just because it is the better device. I will warn you though, switching to the iPhone is not going to keep you from playing with your phone. Between jailbreak mods and games, I was on that thing ALL THE DAMN TIME. It is a slick little device, and is just as tempting to fiddle with as the HOX is.
to answer your question tho, the iphone 4 will probably sell for more than your one X when the iP5 drops. The reason for this being HTC will already have a newer, better phone out by then. Not to knock it, im posting from an Android but the bottom line is i could sell my unlocked 32GB 4s and buy about 3 of the best flag ships Android has. The reason for this is that there is only 1 iphone per year(sometimes more) so when u get the iphone u know u will have the best apple offers for at least a year. When u get a HTC/MOTO/SAMMY, and its their flagship---u have maybe 4-5 months. With the only exception having been the GS2.

Apple stuff holds the reale value very well.
Android phones drop in value a LOT faster. I don't think I'd go to an iPhone just to be tempted not to play with it. After all they can be jailbroken too.
Buy the one that you can actually unlock and use overseas. That's what matters.

exactly. and that's NEVER an iPhone (at least not on At&T)
Jail breaking and rooting/custom roms is very different. I'd think hard about it because it's us just so plain and boooooringggg

totally agree but there's still a lot to play with on a jailbroken iPhone so that part of the argument still is relevant.
Yeah jailbreaking an iphone is nothing like rooting and ROMing an Android but there are still some cool mods and tweaks you can do (that usually end up mimicking native Android features lol). That said, the iPhone is anything but boring. It is a great little device. Limited, but great nonetheless.

Is not about the phone, it is you. I am a smoker. Can I choose to smoke Cigar instead of normal cigarette so that I will smoke less or quit smoking? I don't think so.

You can buy your unlock code from eBay for something around $5. Or if you wait a few more months (end of this year), you can get the code from AT&T for free.
iPhone, you will have to entirely at the mercy of AT&T.
Android is more internationally friendly

Agree with this general notion. Med school (then residency and then internship) requires a ton of dedication, discipline and self control. If having one phone versus another is going to capsize your study habits, you have bigger issues to address than what phone to own.
I'm thinking of trading my HTC one x for an iPhone 4s. Should I go for it or not? The only thing that's holding me back right now is that this phone is legit brand new I just got it a few days ago and bechus it's still brand new I'm kind of second guessing if I should go through with the trade
So I'm asking my fellow xda people for any opinions
But pls don't say "stick with the one x" only bechus you don't like
or hate the iphone or vice versa
I want some real honost opinions pls
Thanks in advance

Yeah that's true I've been seeing prices higher on the iPhone's 4s side than the HTC one x non store related..but one of the main reasons I kind of wanna do the trade is that you can buy so many awsome cases/accssories for the iPhone 4s & no matter how old the phone may be its always gonna be supported as to android devices the phone stop getting its support as soon as a new device gets released and the support and price point gets lower and lower
I'd keep the One X because it has a nicer display, battery lasts longer, and you can customize it.
I'd trade because you probably wouldnt like modifying your phone anyway. You might as well get the phone that everyone else bought.

Yeah that's another reason of why if I should do the trade or not..the one x does have a bigger and better display
And as far as modding goes I used to be a mod/flash freak ever since the original Motorola droid days lol
But I've gotten bored of doing the whole modding and slowly got tired of it so I'd figure I'd go for an iPhone.
Yeah I can still jailbreak it but as far as android modding it doesn't even come close to it
In my eyes the two don't even compare. It's like apples and oranges. The XL is better in every sense.

The One X is definitely a better phone. However, my biggest disappointment with android phones in general is the lack of third party support (and sometimes even manufacturer support) when it comes to accessories. The One X lacks even a dock! So, if you are interested in things like that, I'd do the trade. Just be prepared for a slower phone

But really I would NEVER trade my one X for iPhone, downgrade for sure. If you got bored with customizing this phone you will be EXTREMELY bored with the iphone...
I set up phones all the time at my job for my clients and I got really bored with the iPhone 5 just by setting it up... the OS is outdated and over rated. I hope for Apple's sake they step it up this year...

Hell, I wouldn't even trade my One X for an iPhone 5. The One X ****s all over the iPhone 4S and even wipes its ass with it.
1. Trade your hox
2. Get the iPhone
3. Trade/sell for something better and more android-y
4.??????

I replaced my iPhone 4 with my HOX so I'm probably well qualified to answer this question.
It mostly comes down to iOS vs. Android and the larger screen.
I wanted a much bigger screen. Not everyone cares about this.
iOS tends to be smoother and snappier on a stock phone but is quite dated when compared to Android. If you're thinking of jailbreaking, stick with Android. There's not much you can do with a jailbroken iPhone that you can't do with a rooted Android. And iOS really starts to slow down and get unstable the more you mod it.
The iPhone 4 is heavier.
As noted, there are far more accessories for iPhones. This is probably the only thing I really miss.
Thanks for the honest opinions guys,I went ahead and did the trade. I was liking the fact that the iPhone is supported by so many 3rd party stores,so many accessories, and I like the fact that even though it is an older device since the iPhone 5 came out its still managing to get so many support

He'll be back....they always come back. iPhone's are indeed snappy and grandma friendly but once the comfortability sets in so does the boredom. Then theyre left wanting more access and more control...BAM! Jailbroken iPhone which turns into a heap of crap. And thus returning to android when they get tired of dealing with it the lag and freezing.

Well, the whole iOS vs. Android debate is pretty opinionated. It's based off the user, so I am going to give you my opinion.
First off, this is someone who went from the HTC Hero, to the iPhone 3GS, to the iPhone 5, to the Evita. I was able to jailbreak the 3GS, and it was pretty good (so as my iPads as well). Then I got the iPhone 5. At the time it was not able to be jailbroken, so it was not really special. Sure it was slim and fast as hell, but that's it. I didn't really get any custom-ability with it. Then I got the One X, and rooted it three months later (avoid warranty issues), and never looked back. Even though I could jailbreak the 3GS, I get MORE features with the One X. Not to mention, different ROMs. With the iOS, you can install tweaks from Cydia and a few themes, but at the end of the day, it is still the software that Apple wants you to have. With Android, you can go from 4.0.4 to 4.2.2, and get FULL control over your phone. As far as jailbreaking vs rooting, they are both the same thing. Giving the user access to the system files. If you enjoy your One X, then I would not trade it in. With ROMs made for the Evita, it runs fast as hell. I never messed with a 4S, but my iPhone 5 was pretty fast. Not to mention, you will lose screen size (4.7" to 3.5"). If you want something new, then go far it, but I would suggest playing with an iPhone 4S, before you make the switch.
P.S. Siri is a cool feature which is a selling point (for novice phone users), but isn't something that should be sold on alone. Google Now is a close competitor, and does things as well.
At the end of day, the choice is yours. And to to give you an answer: I don't think you should do it.

Like I said guys just chus you may hate the iPhone doesn't mean other people "HAVE" to hate it as well.and I did the trade not chus I feel like the iPhone is better or not chus I hate android but because iPhones have the most support in every aspect of the device. I really don't care about rooting and using roms or jailbreaking.i feel if you need to root a device and use a rom to make it more smoother and better to your liking why not just get something that you will like in the first place so you don't have to do that. So no hate intended on both android or iOS. I just did the switch because if you didn't notice once an android device gets released it gets support shortly after once a new device hits the market that device loses all the support and it gains to the new device as to where the iPhone it's always gonna be supported no matter what. So if your gonna hate on me just because I did the trade chus you hate on the iPhone then I apologize.like I said in the op just wanted some opinions and that was it. Thank you again to the ones who gave honest opinions
With that said I feel that this thread is no longer needed and am requesting to close this thread
I bought an iPhone just recently. I like it a lot but its missing basic features that android has. Such as mass storage or making a freaking ringtone without using a computer. I always root and run custom roms on my android phones and really enjoy them over the stock rom. Mostly roms like CyanogenMod. Of course I'm jail broke and I find it extremely hard and expensive to customize. Unless you warez the jailbroke apps. Android is extremely easy to root and backup apps or uninstall ones that come with the phone. Side loading is as simple as pressing install however Ios blocks this completely, unless you jailbreak. There are no widgets, alternate keyboards (granted you can download an app to type somewhere else on the screen then cut and paste where you want it, defeats the purpose doesn't it) , messaging replacements, launchers, or pretty much anything that you love about android. You like it Apples way or the highway.
In my opinion everything that it does is smooth and works great. Android gets second hand games, for example plants vs zombies. It's a good game on android but if you ever play it on iPhone you'll be upset. Only half the game was provided by ea games on the android version and its the same price. Most other games such as tapped out the Simpsons are released way later. But the main reason is the compatibility issues devs face. There are 5 or so iPhones but thousands of android devices with many different types of hardware making it extremely hard to code and optimize compared to iOS. Updates are pushed to the iPhone family frequently and you run the latest version with having to wait for Sammy, HTC, Sony, or other manufacturers to push out an update. Unless you want to jailbreak of course then you have to wait for devs to find an exploit to allow you to jail break.

Now you realize that this being a forum specific to the HTC One X, that the vast majority of users here own and love their One X. So suggesting to get rid of it, is not going to generate the most objective feedback. If we thought the iPhone was a better device, we wouldn't be here!
