Hey guys Just wondering if I can restore my phone to stock if I use the "permanent" root listed in this forum. Any thoughts? I'm not 100% sure I want to keep the phone. Really hate TW so a new ROM might be the thing to make me fall in love. Thanks.

Since ur question wasn't answered, yes, u can restore ur phone back to stock easily using Odin. Its a real easy process if ur used to doing it. Really self explanatory. Go to the development section and look for one Factory EE2/EE4 Odin threads, u will find all u need there.

To make your life easier looking for the SGS4G Bible. It's generally on the first page of the dev forum anyway, but there you have it. It is full of amazing things you can do!
Flashing a custom ROM would be the traditional thing to do. I'm assuming you've never flashed a custom ROM before, much less on a Samsung phone.
So things to look out for would be learning Odin and ClockWork Mod.

In he bible i see a list of things to do but im so new to this i dont know the order of it all what do u recommend i do first??
The first thing I did after rooting was use this thread to learn how to flash my first ROM. From there you should be able to figure out where to go with your SGS4G fairly easily!
Im confusedddddd !!! jjajaja ill get it .... thanks so much !!
do i make the changes with the phone plugged in via usb or on the phone directly?? sorry its just im not fully understandig here
after you read that guide. download odin from the bible under the "useful files" section. then follow the noobs guide to odin (also in the bible) to odin "bali 3.3uv". i think it was posted by fbis in the dev section. this will give you the latest clockwork mod for the phone. with this...you are ready to flash. go to the dev section and choose your rom. when you figure it out. let me know and i will walk you through it.

Search around the forum and see what sounds good. Make sure you read carefully too, before there's another "OMG, I BRICKED" thread. Even in the event that happens, be sure to search around the forums for immediate answers too.
We can't really tell you what ROMs to flash, as everybody has their own personal preference. However, if you just want something simple to flash, I think nothing gets more simple than Bionix Frost by Team Whiskey. As long as you read carefully, there will be no problems.
Good luck.
First you're gonna need CWM, which comes with the Bali kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195860
Next you need a ROM, lots of people were using this rom (icbinb):http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157593
If you're not willing to read and follow instructions then please don't try to mod your phone, you might brick it.
As many will mention to you and have mentioned, the bible thread is your friend:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554
Read and click, read and click.
How about icbinb 2.3.4? I an currently running bionix frost

http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...harge-full-factory-tar-flashing-software.html
just want to make sure this is a good way to unroot
That should work, yes, also check out the "Fix your phone" topic in one of these charge sub-forums. that will also get you back.
Thanks man

Moving to Q&A
Can anyone please post on this thread on how to install a Rom on a Samsung Infuse? I have downloaded the current ROM for it and do not know how to do it. I have found some directions on YouTube but to no avail. This would help others.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318160
And this belongs in the Questions section.
What ROMs are you referring to exactly? All custom ROMs are flashable through CWM recovery. The "official" gingerbread leaks from przekret are only flashable through Odin or Heimdall. Directions for both of these methods already exists in infuse general and infuse q&a sections. I would suggest a google search with something like this:
Code:
site:xda-developers.com samsung infuse how to install ROM via Odin
It'll tell google to ONLY search xda-developers.com for your search term. The xda search sucks (IMO).
yo have to root the phone and have CWM instaled then you can flash what you want....and this is not a development question...please post in right section
I know but seemed like I wasnt getting a good response so I decided to quickly ask here.
I am referring to SGH-I997_I997UCKL2_UC_ATT.RAR
I promise I will remove soon and put in the correct section to help others with similar question.
I do not have rooted phone so I downloaded the ROM that was non-rooted

If that is the leak from prezkret thread, you'll need to extract the rar and there should be a tar.md5 in there (if memory serves). You will need to use Odin to flash this on your device so being rooted is not necessary. Put your phone into download mode, connect it to your pc, fire up odin and put the tar.md5 that is within this rar into the pda slot. That's all you'll need to do.
there is a tar.md5 this really helps. thankyou

So, because you were impatient, you felt a need to break the rules of this forum and post in a section you are explicitly not suppost to post new threads in unless the thread is for something YOU have created?
What makes you think you are so special and are allowed to break the rules?
Also, I just looked through your posting history - you didn't even TRY to post in Q&A.
The bible will give you everything you will ever possibly need...

I think since you posted this question here and by some of the things you have said, you should wait on doing anything to your phone. I'm not trying to be mean but you really don't seem like you know what you are doing and that you need to do some research first. If not you'll have another post asking how to unbrick your phone. Do some reading.

That I'd what I did. I read all of the instructions from every rom thread and then hung out on IRC before I even attempted to flash a ROM
I still bricked it a few times, even partially broke download mode
Plenty of information on this forum to help you. All you need to do is search.

@OP - Did you get it figured out?
FOR GODS SAKE READ THE POSTS CAREFULLY XBSALLS THREAD IS FOR REPAIRING BRICKED PHONES NOT DOWNGRADE THEM
Please dont qoute the whole thread when replying !!!! Its so annoying
OK I made this thread cuz many people are constantly asking about should they root their phone or not
..well first root is gaining access to system files..that's a small definition.
Why should u root ?
Rooting it self isn't benefitial its the things after rooting ex(flashing roms .kernels etc)
1-custom roms and kernels improve performance and speed and many other stuff depending on the rom .
2-u can use modded apps like defcomg's camera mods for gb or ics.
3-u can use some os versions that are not officially out for your phone like (xbsall who ported ics for p920 and there is no official update till now)
4-use custom recovery for backup and restore.
5-modify many thing ex..boot animations .
6-over clock your device to make it faster .
Is rooting safe ?
Well in one of the worst scenarios .the phone gets bricked and u need to flash a new os..
What is getting bricked?
Its when the device becomes a brick due to system or boot failure.
Can it be fixed?
Usually yes but sometimes u get hard bricked and u can't fix it but this won't probably happen if u stick to the instructions and read them carefully.
How to root?
Don't ask me go search the forum every firmware has its own way of rooting and they are all mentioned in the forum.
What do I need to know before rooting and flashing roms ?
1-by rooting u are voiding the warrant if your device and u can un
root.
2-u may brick your device and u need to learn how to fix it ( its all mentioned in the forum)
3-there are different kinds of bricks ..the easy ones that's can be fixed by simply restoring a backup.and some tough bricks when the device can't even go to download mode or recovery (also fixable)..in some of the worst scenarios u may get hardware bricked and u need to take the device to the manufacturer for replacing parts but this won't likely happen If u know what ur doing.
4-u may loose your imei when unbricking and u can restore without the need of octopus box or other restoring ways.
5-fixing a bricked device isn't easy u need to try more than a way sometimes.
Is it worth it? ??
For me yes it is..
A piece of advice when u brick your phone and u will don't panic just search for the solution and u will find it..if u couldn't find a solution u can ask in the general section and users will help u..
Also read alot alot alot ....read every thing every single post about your problem before trying something or before posting a new thread.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask

Good morning. Let me try to help you out... There are a ton of detailed instructions in the forum for your device. Below I am giving you the link to the General forum. Check out the thread titles to find the things you're looking for, and definitely read the stickies at the top of the forum. Nobody is going to retype everything that's already right there, but there are helpful people who will answer questions if you have them after reading the guides for yourself first. Check 'em out:

If you haven't rooted the device and it has Android on it then you are on the stock ROM right now. So, follow any of the guides written out for your device (link above), which will tell you how to first root the device, then to install something called Clockworkmod Recovery ("CWM" it will be called), and then to make a backup of your stock ROM ("nandroid" it will be called). From that point you can read more about custom ROMs and start to have fun. Read first though, trust me. It's worth the time to make sure you don't brick the thing by doing something you shouldn't have.
Enjoy.
thanks a lot friend i ll try it for sure

I don't know what a root file is, but if you go to that forum all the root guides and links are stickies. Thank you so much. I needed that. Lol. You literally just quoted the answer to your own question. Like, someone asked a question, I answered it (last summer lol), then you quoted my answer to ask the same question. Oh, this made my day. Thank you... lol.
In case that's unclear... my answer to your question is the answer you quoted. Ah, I love it. Cheers, mate. I don't mean this as rude, it's just hysterically awesome. :good:
you can find it on galaxy s2 subforum for custom rom, custom recovery and root tools
if you have installed the custom recovery and root, do a nandroid back up of your current ROM (system, boot, data) in case you want to go back to your old rom

*Yeah right...you cannot insult people and then saying 'no mean to insult'. Just letting you know smartypants... I dont say this to insult you...as you say
Thread given in link was far to complicated and needed TO MUCH search (my opinion). I found the file to another thread. By saying root file I mean the file I need to root my phone. I found a file called SU or smthng like that. Thank you though mate.
