root without data loss
I used the batch script pure root method. It was easy to do and you will not lose your data.

How to Root Nexus S Without Wiping All Data?

I'm looking to root my NS to overclock and dab into the voodoo stuff (heard it can really improve sound and screen quality) but all the root methods I've seen will totally wipe the phone. I have a lot of valuable data on my phone along with data in games that I don't want to lose. Is there any method that doesn't wipe the phone clean? I'm on a Mac btw.
to my knowledge, no. when you unlock the boot loader, it wipes you clean.

There is no known way to root without wiping. If you have any data you want to preserve, you can use cat or sd in terminal emulator (or perhaps adb shell) to copy the data files to the sdcard. Then backup the sdcard, as it too will be wiped. I can help you out with the commands to backup any apps that I have installed. Perhaps some one else who's rooted can give you the paths & filenames for your other paid apps.
Which apps are you looking to backup?

i would love your help with this, i got a replacement phone and i need to transfer data from one app. i have a mac and pc available
Gingerbreak, I did it.
2.3.2 or lower only
There is no way to NOT wipe but you can backup your data in several ways. Often when I have to change ROMs you need to wipe data as well, so I find apps to backup my apps (titanium backup) and other important data like texts and things.

[Q] Backing up apps and saved data for root

I want to root and install a rom, but I know this will wipe all my data. Is there a way to back up apps and data, and intall them to the new rom after root? I would use Titanium backup but it requires root.
The current rooting and s off method does not require a wipe. So titanium might still be your best bet

root first
then backup apps etc using TB
then install custom rom (wipe / no wipe)
if you dont wipe u lose nothing
if you do wipe you have TB saved - just restore what u like

[Q] How to backup unrooted phone with 4.1.2?

Hi all,
So I have a Nexus 4 on order and would like to backup my Nexus S. I'm currentyl running 4.1.2. I'm willing to root my phone if necessary, but have heard that it may not be possible to back up the phone since I am on 4.1.2. Could someone please give me direction? I'm looking to backup save games such as Angry Birds.
If you're talking about backing up your apps along with saved data such as those for games, I suggest you buy titanium backup pro from the Play Store. It's a very robust tool and you won't regret buying it.
However if you are talking actual ROM or what we call nandroid backup, then you really have to root your phone.
Try "my backup" from the market. I used it once when I rooted my wife's phone..... might need paid version to load data to another phone though......
Craft. Beer.
Both of these programs require root. But when I root, won't I lose all of my data and have to wipe the phone? Or is there a way to root 4.1.2 without wiping the phone?
Sorry.....thought my backup saved data for apps also..... don't believe there is a way for you to save your data without root.....and rooting will cause you to wipe your phone
Craft. Beer.
Will either of these methods work?

[Q] Rom flashing help

I have a rooted Galaxy tab 3 running the stock rom. I would like to flash a custom rom, but would like to know if I can do this without losing all of my data and settings. I have access to my corporate email and calendar via Maas 360 app. Currently, one of the requirements is not having a rooted device, but I was able to fool it using root cloak.
I have Titanium Pro installed and have everything backed up. I also have TWRP recovery installed. Is it possible to flash a new ROM and reinstall all of my apps (data, settings) without messing up the Maas 360 account?
Thanks!
Hi,
If you install a custom ROM on your device, all data will be lost (excluding the SD card).
If you backup and restore your apps/data using titanium backup all the apps will be the same as before. But some apps may not work.
I advise to make a full nandroid backup using TWRP to recover your phone if anything goes wrong.

Temporary Root or Root without Wipe? - Need to run root App

Hi Guys,
I wanted to root my phone temporarily so I can run this DiskDigger software (which I had used in the past with another phone with good results) that requires root in order to recover deleted photos.
Now if there was some sort of temporary root solution then that would be great as I don't actually want to root the phone properly mainly because I like to use some banking software that doesn't allow it...
If temp root is not possible then is a root without a data wipe possible? I am not entirely sure if my data will be lost by wiping the data partition as some of the files I want to recover also belonged in the secure folder app, which I think has its data stored in /mnt/secure but I am not 100% and I am also worried about the partition being re-encrypted again after a wipe, which could mean new encryption keys and I can't restore old files?
Any advice here is appreciated.
Thanks
I know the thread is old, but I want to backup some apps with data and no one solution (ad backup/restore is not working) like Titanium (but requires root) is working.
I'm looking to have a root shell with an exploit (like payloads on the consoles, or thethered jailbreak on iphone) so I can backup the data manually.
Any updates on this matter the last 2 years?
