Update (2/26): Discontinued
Note: If you flashed this without first flashing the stock RUU, you may not be able to get into CWM. If you want CWM back, either flash the stock RUU and then this modified RUU or check out page 13 of this thread
Credit goes to angelchen1111 and nyckid58 for providing me with the information needed to put this together.
Features:
-Based on stock RUU and not de-odexed
-Rooted
-HSUPA enabled
-Unknown sources option added to settings for sideloading
-Browser home page set to Google
-Removed the following bloatware apps:
AT&T Code Scanner
AT&T FamilyMap
AT&T Hot Spots
AT&T Navigator
Blockbuster
Live TV
myAT&T
YPmobile
Installation
1) Use the HTC Inspire Hack Kit here to get S-OFF so that you can flash custom roms.
2) Download the zip file here [removed] and put it on your SD card. Don't rename it and don't put it in any folders.
3) On your phone, go to Settings > Applications, turn off fast boot, and then shut down your phone.
3) Boot into HBOOT by pressing volume down and power. Once you're in HBOOT, the installation will begin. A factory reset will be performed so have your data backed up.
Funny that you mentioned it's not de-odexed, I'm actually working on that right now using Android Kitchen. I'll let you know if it works with the HBOOT loader if you'd like.

Sure, let me know. I'll post up your de-odexed version as well if it works.
What difference does de-odexed give us?
Great work gtg and whomever had a hand in helping with this.
I'm assuming we can expect the same sound quality as the stock Rom?

In layman's terms, de-odexing modifies the system apps so that they can be manipulated (themed, etc.) more easily. It's sometimes a pain in the ass though and can lead to little bugs if the apps aren't de-odexed just right, so I just left everything how it was from HTC (odexed) for now.
If nyckid58 de-odexes it I'll post that in the first post as well, but both will be kept up until we verify that no bugs were introduced in the de-odexed version.

Yup, this thing is mostly untouched stock so everything should work as it did from the factory

Ok, thanks for explaining it.
I'm still here, I've extracted and de-odexed all the files, the problem I'm running into is reintroducing it to the system.img. The de-odexed framework files add fine but the apps files is freezing up my computer. I'll update if anything else comes down.
Thank you for this. I wanted a minimally invasive option, so this is perfect for me. I just wanna be able to get rid of unwanted apps and bypass ATT's app blocking.
Do you need to do a wipe first and if so how do you do that sorry for the noob question

No. This is a little different than other ROMs. Do not flash this with ClockworkMod. Follow the instructions in the OP.
I'm all ready s-offd so Ill give this a whirl. I just ruu back to stock so ill post results and what i think in a few min great work always good to see forward progress
@GTG: I got the image compiled with the de-odexed files unfortunately though it throws off the size of PD98IMG.zip by about 120 meg. I tried to apply regardless but it wouldn't take. I'm thinking there is a size constraint, any ideas?

I would imagine the system.img needs to be the exact same size. Did you create a new image or mount and modify the original image?

So how did it throw off the size of the zip so much? If you mount and modify the system.img should be the same size when you're done no?
edit: Regardless, if you're de-odexing it you might as well just package it as a CWM flashable zip instead of a system image.

System.img is the same size yes but I'm thinking the de-odexed files are throwing the compression off. I think you might be right about the CWM idea. I shall research how to do that. Thanks again GTG.

I had problems getting it to work on my Nook Color, but finally did.
First question is whether you power cycled the phone after installing the edited Build.prop file? You need to do that to get it to recognize its new "identity."
Second question is whether you have the Netflix app installed to your main memory, or the microSD card? If the former, move it to the card. This thing eats up a lot of memory when buffering so will crash if it's not on the card.
At least, those are the two steps I needed to do to get mine working.
However, I did have another question. In your OP you said you don't have Root. If you don't are you actually able to get in and swap the Build.prop file to begin with?
I was looking for someone to post up one with the build.prop already edited so that I could get it to work is what im saying
My bad, I thought the second post was yours.
I currently don't have a Charge (will be ordering in the next few days) or I'd put mine up there. In any event, the file needs to be put in the /system folder, which I believe requires Root to manipulate, so if you aren't Rooted, I'm not sure you're going to be able to do anything.
Good luck!

Just want to pose the question of how to edit the build.prop now that we have fairly stable root. I was going to use ES File Explorer but I can't get it to allow the root features. If I can get into it (yes adb is foreign to me outside my trusty Nook) could I make it a Nexus S? HTC Vision? Ideas or guides welcome. Thanks all.
so, let me get this straight:
are you talking about the system build.prop for the whole phone or something that specific to the Netflix App?
Where would I get the netflix app?
tried to build prop change, no go. pretty sure we have to have 2.3 to get it working
I'm talking about the system wide build.prop file.
I enabled Netflix on my NC by editing the build.prop to say that it is the HTC Vision.
About the actual app itself, it is on the market, or if not found there just do a quick google for it and you can have it in no time:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
My Charge would do all but stream. We'll get there!
Apple has a contract with Netflix. We have to wait until it expires before we get Netflix on most Android devices. Same thing with Skype.
I used the netflix apk from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
Didn't work. Couldn't stream. Would editing the build.prop. enable streaming?
To the best of my (limited) knowledge, this could work. However I am "studying" and have been stripped of my Charge.
1. Backup your device by whatever means you may.
2. Get a root file explorer and go to your /system file
3. Make a copy of your build.prop somewhere other than /system before doing anything.
4. Go back to the original build.prop and change the lines for product model and manufacturer to match this:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
-or-
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
*Must stay in their appropriate pair. I.E. HTC does not make the Nexus S, it won't work.
5. Save the new file and REBOOT (necessary)
6. Open Netflix, login, and try to watch something.
7. Let me know if it works please!
Now Netflix may be installed before, after, 3 quarters the way through the steps, whatever floats your boat. I installed before the first step when doing this to my Nook. Best of luck.
*I assume no responsibility for you messing up your device, but if you do I will try to talk you through that hard time.

I read the same thing on another site, but I didn't know if it's legit or not because changing the model to "Nexus S" seems too generic. I figured Nexus S wouldn't be the "real" model name.
But I'll give it a whirl and let you know.

Did not work.
Edit:
Samsung Nexus S model number is GT-I9020T. Changing the build.prop to that model didn't work either.
Edit 2:

Odd, I'm sure there's some way to get it up and running. Thank you for letting me know so quickly. Huge help! Where there's a will there's a way, and I want me some Netflix over 4G so I will keep poking around.

Not that I would pay for Hulu, but I watch their free content sometimes. This is a travesty.

HULU works on the skyrocket........
just use one of the deodexed roms(like this one-- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341616), which will let you edit the libs of the Flashplayer. use the Libflashplayer.so hack that is on xda replace it and give it the proper premission and BAM!!!! you got hulu
have been watching hulu on my phone since melvin dropped his first rom.
if for some reason you just cant manage to find the Hack i will post it up for you and give credit to the Dev.

I know that but what I consider stock is a ROM that hasn't been messed with at all.
I normally run Cyanogen Mod 7 but it's not available yet.
No, I don't like the crap bloatware apps.
Thing is, I will not die without Hulu and it's not enough reason for me to grab the first thing that comes along and install it.
I am actually enjoying the stock rom on this phone. Can't do everything I am used to but, I have to say that it's been pretty nice.
I will likely consider Cyanogen when it comes out for this phone but I am going to have to think pretty hard at this point. That rom has caused nothing but issues for me on multiple phones in regards to GPS which I rely on quite a bit. I know there are fixes and I got my GPS working after a lot of hassle on my Evo but never had success fixing it on my Inspire. Been nice having my GPS working without an issue on my Skyrocket. So... At this point, I just don't want to mess with the stock rom until I have a chance to evaluate it more.
My phone is rooted and that seemed to be all I needed to edit the needed files in the past but I guess not in this case.
Didn't Hulu come out recently and say they are supporting all Android devices now or was that Netflix?

I agree the Stock rom on the SR is great thats why im not even worried about not having 5 or 6 roms to choose from. i thinks its pretty nice as is. but i like to be able to edit certain files. and i think all you need it root explorer and you CAN edit pretty much everything on the phone.
but i didnt notice that you cant edit the build.prop, or the libs. i had to pull the build prop and edit on my comp and push it back.
and CM7 is a buggy nice little rom one of those things were you deal with the problems cuz its so damn nice. same with miui.

may i ask what files you are seeing in the Lib folder on the com.adaobe.flashplayer.
you shouuld have four files in there already right? i have seen it where it is empty sometimes and that means this wont work. ALSO if you unistall flash and reinstall flash 11 it repopulate the lib folder and i have had luck with this as well. once you get it will stick though. you wont have to this every reboot or anything.

this is true, but even with root on the stock rom(odexed) i dont think you can edit the lib files.
im pretty sure.
this is for Rogers users who have wifi calling in their plan.
How to get wifi calling working on htc sensation.
You need lib files from Rogers EVO, I found them in KingCobra3Dv1.6 ROM
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267131):
libganril.so
libhtc_ril.so
libhtc_ril_switch.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
Copy them to /system/lib
then you will also need apk for rogers wifi calling from kineto. I've found one on this forum (googled it):
MS-HTC-SHT-GB-2.3-48407-06.1.apk
This file is from Rogers EVO uploaded here by nice user(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216683&page=2). You will need to put it in
/system/app
Last step is to add to your build.prop this line:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
restart, enjoy!
Hey folks,
does anyone have Android 4 (ICS) ROM for EVO 3D with Rogers?
Im looking for lib file from this ROM ----> libhtc_ril.so
WiFi calling wont work after upgrading to newst radio , the lib is outdated

I have done some research on how to root my sgs2. Once I do that today I will try and install the fix you have suggested. The lib files can be found in the file tree of the mod you suggested? I can just browse its folders, correct? No need to actually install it on my sgs2? Thanks for your help.
How is the workaround working for you? Are you getting uma without issues? Does it drain battery like alot of evo users have been reporting?
Ive followed everything you described step by step. It doesn't work. I see the icon when i click on it, it launches but exits from the app two seconds afterward. No error..
In the app it says wifi calling "enabling..." with the checkbox being checked of. I can click on other menu options and it doesn't close the app.
I can also assure you that I have wi-fi calling access on my account.

Yes, the libs are in lib directory, all I did is just copy them to lib on my phone. You may want to extract the zip on pc.
As for battery, it is in fact better since it turns off radio once it connects to WiFi.
There is no issues so far and voice quality is pretty good considering my moderate internet speed of 1.3M

Well. First question; after reboot did you get a window pop up saying something like " did you know that your phone can make WiFi calling" ?
This indicates that the libs are working, apk itself won't work. Also is the icon red, kind of Rogers like? If its not then you have T-Mobile apk which again doesn't work.
If it works , you actually don't open the app, it will turn on automatically when signal is too low. There is no force mode to use WiFi instead of GSM.
You can in fact open it with winrar or any zip software and search for rogers string, to make sure.
Also its good to check if the prop.build file has the line I've mentioned. I had my system dir in read-only mode and it was not saved.
I put the line at the end but I doubt it matters.
Otherwise I'm pretty sure that is all you need.
Oh, yeah, Im sure u have the feature but if you have a chance to test it in any blackberry, give it try. I checked mine before.

I wanted to follow up. I did everything that was described and had the app on the phone but still couldn't make calls. I added the one line in the build.Prop file. In theory I did all that was required then I noticed my imei was gone. It took me 2 hours to get my phone back to original state. Clockworkrecovery mod saved me and I ended up restoring my phone. I would still like to get this thing to work as I am going nuts without signal coverage.
I come from the world of blackberry and I know uma worked.
I wish there was an easier way for this to get going. I am a persistent noob when it comes to android, so I know I will get this working. I appreciate your help in this manner.
Rogers should release an app on the market allowing all android and iphones to have this, it would only benefit everyone involved. As a rogers employee I will continue to lobby for this to happen.
I will need to revisit this once my exams are done. I will do more research on this as well.
PS. I did not get the pop up when I booted my phone. There was an htc file in there. Does it matter that I have an sgs2?
The libs are from rom for sensation, I'm not sure if they work for Samsung. In fact I think not. But the apk should be fine. It's made providers. See if you can find similar lib files from sgs2 ROM

I'm wondering if we cant just remove the "Tetherguard" app from the phone via Titanium. I'm not sure if this is what prevents us from tethering, or the app that phones home... but we might have some luck.
Other than that, can we use other apps that will bypass this?

Unfortunately that didnt work, I just tried.
I uninstalled teatherguard via Ti B/u tried to run my tether app, no luck. Tried to run the factory installed hotspot software and instead of getting denied it just wouldnt turn on. If I went into settings I could make changes and try to turn it on however it would just act as if it was loading and eventually do nothing.
At that time I went ahead and installed barnacle and no luck there either, again it wouldnt deny but it wouldnt boot up either.
Hmmmm
Okay so after playing with the app "WiFi Tether for Root Users, Muller, Lemons, Buxton" I finally got it to work. You will need the app downloaded and installed, go to settings, select profile and select "generic ICS" should be the 3rd option, then hit the menu bar again to select re install binary files.
After that turn on the hot spot and connect with your device!
Actually I'm using the HTC app for tethering!! I did this that a saw on a Vivid ROM thread, I think it was on Dark Raider's..... so I don' deserve any credit, I just want to help because I got my One X yesterday, rooted it and tried it and it works perfectly!!
You'll need SQ Lite Editor:
1) Dialer Storage
2) telephony.db
3) carriers
4) 12 Entitlement 310410
you shoud change the value under "apn" from "broadband" to "pta"
5) Please restart your device and you will get it!!
Enjoy my friends!!!
Thank you for that fix!!!!
I search hih and low for the entitlement check in all the databases. I would have never thought to look in telephony.

Donpiero278,
I like your method, but I need a bit more clarification on how you did it.
So I need to purchase SQLLite Editor? What am I going to edit with it? Where do I get the HTC Tethering app? I also don't understand your 1-4 steps.
Thanks

It's not for the timid.
find the telephony.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases copy it to /mnt/sdcard
edit it with the sqlite manager of your choice. I used the firefox extension.
Find line 12 and change it from broadband to pta.
copy it back to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
reboot phone
You'll need root explorer or similar file manager with root access to get to the file and put it back
After that I just added the widget

I'm not timid. Your extra guidance is all I needed. It works! This might be harder than installing an app but the end result is better. Thank you so much.

You're welcome. I googled the file location that took a while. After that it was cake.
the maker of CWM also made a tethering app, it also claims that it's almost non-detectable by carriers since it does it with proxies and works with non-root https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether
just another option. If you use ssdroid, this is another tethering method that does it with proxies and also is nondetectable that i am experimenting with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25818971

pretty sure you should use a root file explorer to remove it from system/apps because you have to remove the odex as well as the apk. not saying it will work but it might. since you already removed the apk with titanium you should use a root file explorer and remove the odex file that's probably still there and see if it fixes it. im trying it now and will report back.
I searched like crazy and I can't find what PTA stands for. I know APN stands for Access Point Name. I also found out that PTA is an APN that is only utilized by LTE provisioned accounts.
Phone daTA ???
Personal Telephony Account ???
Phone Terminated Access ???
.....I don't know ....possibilities are endless but the curiosity is driving me nuts. Does anybody know?
Sorry that I wasn't here yesterday to help you out guys. I hope it's all figured out for you!!

Did you guys leave Tetherguard.apk in place when you did this? I get stuck at the "Processing..." toast message when I try to turn the hotspot on now.
