Update (2/26): Discontinued
Note: If you flashed this without first flashing the stock RUU, you may not be able to get into CWM. If you want CWM back, either flash the stock RUU and then this modified RUU or check out page 13 of this thread
Credit goes to angelchen1111 and nyckid58 for providing me with the information needed to put this together.
Features:
-Based on stock RUU and not de-odexed
-Rooted
-HSUPA enabled
-Unknown sources option added to settings for sideloading
-Browser home page set to Google
-Removed the following bloatware apps:
AT&T Code Scanner
AT&T FamilyMap
AT&T Hot Spots
AT&T Navigator
Blockbuster
Live TV
myAT&T
YPmobile
Installation
1) Use the HTC Inspire Hack Kit here to get S-OFF so that you can flash custom roms.
2) Download the zip file here [removed] and put it on your SD card. Don't rename it and don't put it in any folders.
3) On your phone, go to Settings > Applications, turn off fast boot, and then shut down your phone.
3) Boot into HBOOT by pressing volume down and power. Once you're in HBOOT, the installation will begin. A factory reset will be performed so have your data backed up.
Funny that you mentioned it's not de-odexed, I'm actually working on that right now using Android Kitchen. I'll let you know if it works with the HBOOT loader if you'd like.

Sure, let me know. I'll post up your de-odexed version as well if it works.
What difference does de-odexed give us?
Great work gtg and whomever had a hand in helping with this.
I'm assuming we can expect the same sound quality as the stock Rom?

In layman's terms, de-odexing modifies the system apps so that they can be manipulated (themed, etc.) more easily. It's sometimes a pain in the ass though and can lead to little bugs if the apps aren't de-odexed just right, so I just left everything how it was from HTC (odexed) for now.
If nyckid58 de-odexes it I'll post that in the first post as well, but both will be kept up until we verify that no bugs were introduced in the de-odexed version.

Ok, thanks for explaining it.
I'm still here, I've extracted and de-odexed all the files, the problem I'm running into is reintroducing it to the system.img. The de-odexed framework files add fine but the apps files is freezing up my computer. I'll update if anything else comes down.
Thank you for this. I wanted a minimally invasive option, so this is perfect for me. I just wanna be able to get rid of unwanted apps and bypass ATT's app blocking.
Do you need to do a wipe first and if so how do you do that sorry for the noob question

No. This is a little different than other ROMs. Do not flash this with ClockworkMod. Follow the instructions in the OP.
I'm all ready s-offd so Ill give this a whirl. I just ruu back to stock so ill post results and what i think in a few min great work always good to see forward progress
@GTG: I got the image compiled with the de-odexed files unfortunately though it throws off the size of PD98IMG.zip by about 120 meg. I tried to apply regardless but it wouldn't take. I'm thinking there is a size constraint, any ideas?

I would imagine the system.img needs to be the exact same size. Did you create a new image or mount and modify the original image?

So how did it throw off the size of the zip so much? If you mount and modify the system.img should be the same size when you're done no?
edit: Regardless, if you're de-odexing it you might as well just package it as a CWM flashable zip instead of a system image.

System.img is the same size yes but I'm thinking the de-odexed files are throwing the compression off. I think you might be right about the CWM idea. I shall research how to do that. Thanks again GTG.

28 files in lib
2 files in lib/modules - bcm4329.ko and sequans_sdio.ko

Even if you rooted via toasts method, i would not update until a custom ROM is put out with the update included. You could lose root ability forever.
Anyone know the location of system updates are stored on the phone? I am trying to locate using the adb shell but have had no luck finding the download yet.

I'd recommend not installing it at all until the devs here have had a chance to go through it and release it themselves. You risk loosing your root if you don't. Then follow their release instructions to apply it.

The official froyo release from HTC / Sprint will definitely contain all the "Sprint Junk" and if you've given up root to one of these updates and go to apply that it will all come back. You may never get root again in order to re - clean it up once you apply froyo.
Be patient. It won't take the devs here long to cook up an update for us. Flipz had the rooted .6 update rom out in 24 hours or so...
.....
Just took a look inside the zip file. All the apk files are there, including the sprint junk...
Just installed....all is well with root...
Just like our USCC friends, I'm currently working on several mods for Cellular South's release of the Desire. I'll keep this post updated with new developments.
Linked is a custom boot.img from our stock ROM with apps2sd support. You will still need to download and flash the latest Darktremor apps2sd release and format your SD card accordingly.
How to flash?
Place the dphase-apps2sd-signed.zip file on the root of your sdcard and flash it as a zipped update.
Download Link (Cellular South, also confirmed working with Alaska Communications):
http://dphase.net/desire/dphase-apps2sd-signed.zip (2.3 MB)
MD5 checksum: 70df556ceb6891cbdcc3801d807d58af
US Cellular stock boot.img with apps2sd support
http://dphase.net/desire/dphase-USCC-apps2sd-signed.zip (2.3 MB)
MD5 checksum: e11b6f40b26811e252f0579f0ed5861c
Latest Darktremor apps2sd:
http://www.darktremor.info/files/a2sd/dtapps2sd-2.7.5.1-adv-signed.zip
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zipaligned and PNG optimized system apps:
Code:
% du -sh original optimized
62M original
42M optimized
As you can see above, I've zipaligned and optimized the images in the system apps, which shaved off 20MB from total files size. This should lead to faster load times.
To install, untar the optimized archive to the directory of choice and boot to recovery. Mount the /system partition then do the following command with adb from within the directory holding the apk's (adb should be in your binary path, if not, fix that to make life easier in the future):
Code:
adb push . /system/app
You'll then see, for example:
Code:
push: ./DCSImpl.apk -> /system/app/DCSImpl.apk
push: ./HtcDialer.apk -> /system/app/HtcDialer.apk
push: ./EnhancedGoogleSearchProvider.apk -> /system/app/EnhancedGoogleSearchProvider.apk
... (etc)
Link:
http://dphase.net/desire/system_app_optimized.tar.gz (40MB compressed)
MD5 checksum:
2dc5fe2683e657006d2a8026c4ac32dc
reserved for later use
So what exactly does this accomplish? Is it basically adding apps 2 sd to the stock 2.1 rom? Any chance it will run on my US Cell desire?
Yes, adds apps2sd support to the stock rom. The latest a2sd will automagically move portions of /data over once it sees a properly formatted card.
In theory, this should work on USCC, but ymmv.
It is likely I won't get time tonight, but if I do, I'll be sure to give it a shot. I would like to get a2sd without a full reflash

Also You have to remember to run the apps2sd after the restore otherwise you will not boot!

I guess I did it a little differently. I already had the sd card partitioned so I just took a backup swapped the boot.img and edited the MD5 with note++. Restored the modified backup and then ran the apps2sd.zip and rebooted.
I did it this way just in case something went wrong I could restore the backup that I didn't modify.
Going to try out that app optimize next.
Thank again.

Hello and yes I was running that rom but did not like that friend Stream did not have twitter. with that rom you still had to tell the phone to move the files (a little bit of command line codding). With this boot.img and apps2sd on my stock rom backup I went from 15mb to 71mb so this one works great right out of the box.
I Explained how I did it from a backup of my stock rom up a few lines hope this helps.
I too am a little lost on this push of the app optimize. Could you explain it a little more? I have done a little adb shell programming but am lost with your directions.
Thanks,

I'm not sure why anyone is changing MD5's, I included those so one could verify there was no data corruption during the download.

NFX-Sprint.STOCK.2.32.651.2.ODEX.A2SD
This is the New Update from Sprint this is a completely stock rom with everything from the factory included.
You can use this as either an update or a full reflash, it will keep you data during istall. I still suggest a full wipe but it is not needed
Included Extras:
Rooted
Busybox
ChainsDD Superuser 2.3.6.1
wireless tether 1.6.0
Quick boot
A2sd 2.7.5.2
Memory Tweak Settings "1536,2048,4096,5120,11264,12288"
Overclocked to 691
Dalvik to Cache
Newest Sprint VVM
Apps added or moved to DATA: easier removal of most junk
com.estrongs.android.pop.apk
com.google.android.apps.maps.apk
com.siriusapplications.quickboot.apk
placeholder
Quickoffice.apk
Sprint_Navigation.apk
Sprint_NFL.apk
Sprint_Nscar.apk
Sprint_TV.apk
Sprint_TVWidget.apk
SprintZone.apk
wireless_tether_1_60_htc.apk
This should be more that an optimal setup for 85% of most users. If you feel the need to tweak further then you need to remove these 2 files from system/etc/init.d/ folder
File 1: 05dalvik2cache - controls dalvik
File 2: 06memtweak - controls memory settings
and then reboot.
I set this so you can flash and use with the best experience possible.
Enjoy

Had thought about going back to stock, updating via OTA, doing the one click root and then restoring this over-top to get the new baseband...

I tried to update my rooted TF using a repacked 8.4.4.11 update.zip file (the one with all the patch files in it), but it kept failing on checking of the existing APK hashes. Not sure why, but I got around it by doing a clean install of 8.4.4.5, manually applying the 8.4.4.11 patch, then taking all of the changed (between 8.4.4.5 and .11) files and packing them up in a zip file with an updater-script file.
You should be able to apply this to any US version TF (rooted or stock as long as you have CWR) and bring everything up-to-date without losing root or any of your other install modules, system APKs, etc.
Make sure you back up first, as this is something I quickly threw together and has not been properly vetted. If you find a problem, let me know and I'll try to get it fixed and updated ASAP.
You can also download this ZIP and just take out any APKs you are interested in (the google video apk seems to be popular for example).

Unless I misread this is just an update script and not a full ROM. So this would only work for people on 3.1 though right? You shouldn't flash this from 8.2.X.X for example?
Edit: Thanks this is a great idea, and I was just ready to try this when I saw Prime 1.6 out. Keep it up, I wonder if something like this would work when the 3.2 update comes out.

...Not sure why, but I got around it by doing a clean install of 8.4.4.5, manually applying the 8.4.4.11 patch, then taking all of the changed (between 8.4.4.5 and .11) files and packing them up in a zip file with an updater-script file....

Looks like so; zip should be run on-top of 8.4.4.5.
thank you worked for me
This does not have SU in it (or anyhtign else "custom"), but when applied to a ROM that already has SU/busybox/anyhting else in it, those files will be retained.
This is an "update" in the sense that it only contains files changed between 8.4.4.5 and 8.4.4.11, so you will need to be coming from 8.4.4.5 (or perhaps anyhtign 3.1, not sure). It is nto really an "update" though, as all of the patch files (blahblahblah.apk.p) and the patch script have been replaced with full 8.4.4.11 version of the files and the script has been udpated to simply copy these over into the appropriate folders on yoru TF.
I see this being most useful for people who have modified their 8.4.4.5 install such that in will no longer be patachable using a script that pataches the existing files.
I just used this to update from 8.4.4.5_US and it seems to have worked just fine! I kept my superuser app, and nothing was touched. My apps, widgets, and settings are all in the right places. I've now got 8.4.4.11! Thank you very much rtadams89!
Thank you for this!! I've been racking my brain trying to get to a rooted 8.4.4.11 with a good CWM recovery and this did it!
thanks.
Can anyone check to see if their BT is able to turn on....?
After doing this...my BT won't turn on.

My bluetooth works fine, using it right now. Did you tweak anyhting else on your TF?
Well done!
I still have the update notification, but "About" shows x.11.
Screen seems both brighter & to have smoother transitions.

Does this also give you the Nvidia boot animation?
Is it possible to get a .zip for the WW version?

My transformer still has the "Transformer" boot animation I added - wasn't replaced when using this file to update.

That is the boot animation I use, and I may have accidentally included this in the zip. If you want the real 8.4.4.11 animation, you can download the "update" 8.4.4.11 zip file that has been posted on xda and inside you will find that boot animation.

Since I don't have a WW version myself, I don't have a need to do this and quite frankly because I don't have much free time, I don't want to say I'll do something and then not follow through. Further, I'm not sure I can install the WW versions on my US transformer. That said, I will see if I can whip one together. If you get impatient waiting, you can follow the same process I did and make one yourself:
Backup your current ROM/setup
Wipe your device (leaving CWR in place)
Install the stock 8.4.4.5 WW with the ZIP found on XDA
"Update" to 8.4.4.11 using the update zip found on XDA
Backup this new 8.4.4.11 ROM
Restore to your first backup
Take the backup of the 8.4.4.11 ROM you made last, and use your computer to "unyaffs" it
You will now have 8.4.4.11 versions of all the system files; Look at the updater-script file in the 8.4.4.11 update zip and remove any files you just "unyaffs"ed that aren't mentioned in there
Put all of the remaining files (in their folder structure) into a zip file
Copy the updater-script (and it's folder structure) from my download to your zip file
Verify that your final zip looks like the one I posted
You should then have a ZIP file that will bring all the files on your device up to 8.4.4.11 WW without touching any of your other files (like su).
My BT doesn't turn on either.
I went to this as a stepping stone while recovering from a failed root. Went to an older stock than this update. I notice a few slow downs here and there and BT not working, but that's about it.
What I would really love is an image of 8.4.4.11 stock/rooted. I like having it rooted for things like Titanium, but I still like having the stock image. I can't seem to get back to that now.

The Google Now Installer/Restorer v1.1
Purpose
There have been a lot of users with issues installing and uninstalling Google Now for ICS. This is my solution for those users.
This is only an installer for the many different variations of Google Now that were created in this news worthy thread: The Google Now for ICS Project
This installer allow user of different types of roms and devices to quickly install Google Now to see if it works for them and if it does not, it allows these users to restore their original Google Search.
This thread is not and will not be about issues with specific modded Google Now apks, go here: The Google Now for ICS Project for that. I have no problem incorporating new apks into the installer. But I will not attempt to deal with issues outside of the installer.
Testing(Green = working, Red = not working)
(Need more people to test as many different devices, roms, and recoveries)
Devices
HTC EVO 3D
HTC EVO 4g LTE
Roms
OTA_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2-2.17.651.5
Tranquility rls1b
Recoveries
CWM 5.0.2.0
TWRP s-on
So if you experience any issues, I will attempt to help, but understand that I if you are not setup the exact same, I may not know what is wrong.
Touch recovery is not active in this aroma installer, so use up and down to make a selection and the power button to confirm the selection.
Requirements
Rooted
ICS
CWM (only recovery tested, others may work, you let me know)
Instructions(should already know this, but here you go)
1. Transfer .zip to the root of your sd card
2. Boot into recovery
3. Select "install zip from sdcard"
4. Select "choose zip from sdcard"
5. Select "GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.0.zip"
6. Select "Install GoogleNowforICSInstaller_v1.0.zip"
Once the installer is up, the rest should be self explanatory, if not just follow the prompts.
I hope this helps someone.

Google Now for ICS Installer v1.1
I havent been following google now lately, but it seems that you're using stock rooted ics on evo where this works. is this also true for touchwiz phones?
will it work on stock rooted samsung?
Just checked it out on my HTC EVO 4g LTE running tranquility rls1b and TWRP s-on, works great back and forth. Thanks!

It should work on any ICS phone, but it has only been tested on the phone listed in the 1st post.
jdcasino confirms that it works on his HTC EVO 4g LTE.

yes, but if I remember correctly, touchwiz differs from sense in framework files or something. I have epic 4g touch. can anyone else confirm that google now can work on stock rooted touchwiz phone if /system space wasn't an issue?

Sure, give it a try.
edit: there may be an issue with the Installer not finding the original Google Search apk, someone posted this and basically it states that you may have a some extra characters at the end of the apk.

I don't think it has anything to do with sense or touchwiz, the modified Google Now was modded for AOSP, which doesn't have either, but has worked on HTC and Samsung.

Since it won’t let me post to the forum I thought I would just do it this way. On my Verizon S3 I’m rooted, unlocked, OTA kernel, running a stockish rom (cleanrom) and CMW 6.0.1.2. The installer said it worked but it broke Google search. In the installer it said everything was fine but nope. I went to do the restore and it said it couldn’t find the backup so I went with the one provided and that worked fine. When setting up I chose the first one which I think was v7 for arm7. If I chose wrong I’ll try again but otherwise I’ll just wait for an updated version. Unlike others I’m in no hurry and was just testing it out on my phone. If you want more info I can try to install it again and try to provide whatever you might need or want.

What do you mean by it broke Google Search (what were the indications that it did not work)?
When you restored did Google Search work again?
Check if you hae the follow "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk" in your "/system/app"
Are there other files with this same name?

How much space does it state that you have free in the /system directory?
It would seem that you don't have enough space in your /system directory of your internal memory.
One thing to try to see if this is the case, when you do it manually, don't modify or add any files to /system/usr/srec/ directory
larva_pro said:
if i go to settings>storage its says
Device memory: Total 1.97GB ; available 1.3GB.
i did installed manually with out changing nothing on the /system/usr/srec . and im able to opent he register of google now.. as soon i click im'in

To get the total /system directory size you need to run the following command in a program like "Terminal Emulator" or "aShell":
df /system

Yes I have that GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in /system/app and yes it is without the _usa after it. On the line under it it has the odex version. Then the Google search widget apk and odex. It is this way with before and after I try to install.
Just tried it again choosing mikeyxda v7 it says created backup ok and return status 0. Google now installed return status 0 once the phone boots up it says “unfortunately, Google search has stopped”. I also get that message no matter how i try to search or tap on the google app it puts on it. Double checked the permissions from the main thread and all permissions are set right, if that helps. Went to restore and it says I never backed it up but I can use the generic one which I select and get again return status 0 for everything and once the phone comes back up Google search works just fine again. Hope this helps.

That's good to know. I see that the problem has to do with your system being odexed.
The reason it FCs is because when replacing the Google Search apk there is no matching modified odex.
This is modified for deodexed roms.
Check on this thread and ask about a modified odexed velvet.apk and velvet.odex

I'm using GN on an odexed ICS ROM, no problems. Just had to delete the *.odex files for the apk's that the installer replaces.
