These are the Ruu's, but im not sure what will happen to the S-Off if you just flash one. You'll be able to extract them, root and get rid of H-Boot and repackage though.

Hi guys I want to install Virtuous Inquisition and need some help.
I am used to just downloading a ROM, and flashing via ROM manager... however in the virtuous inquisition thread it says you must install new firmware and says something about SuperCID.
Can someone please explain to me what SuperCID is, and how I install the correct firmware. I have read some of the guides but it doesnt make much sense - they seem to be aimed at people who already know what they are doing lol.
Also, if i do install this new firmware, would I still be able to go back to my old rom (android revolution HD sense 3.0) via my backup?
Thanks a lot to anyone who can help.
Install adb +fastboot drivers
Install device drivers
Nav in cmd to fastboot. (Find the sticky for supercid)
Download the 3.24 firmware. PG58.IMG and place it on your sd card.
Find the ics rom you want and put it on your sd card in no folders.
Download android revolutions superwipe script (zip) put on root of sd card.
Boot phone into bootloader (volume down plus power)
It will update your firmware to 3.24 (PG58.IMG)
Once finished choose recovery.
Find superwipe script and flash it.
Find tour ics rom and flash it. Enjoy.
Sorry for being short. Im at work and cant go grab links for you. But that is a quick run down of what you need to do granted you are already s-off and have a custom recovery installed.
Once you have successfully upgraded to ics delete the PG58.IMG zip off of your sd card.

well then you know the basic stuff on how to install ICS to your phone.
1) What you need to do now, is to follow step four(4) on this page.
follow step 4, to get CID
when you got that right, you cid should be 11111111.
2)Now, you need 4EXT. install it from here
3) you need to install Firmware. you need this FW, to get the latest android 4.0.3 with sense 3.6 to work - Firmware from 3.24.401.1 & 3.25.401.101 RUU
found Here
you download it, put it on the root of your phone, just as the ROMs you installed before.
4)you also need superwipe, to clear all errors - found here .look for superwipe. put it on root also.
5)download the ROM you want, i have this. take the XE one, if you want beats (note XE works on your non-xe also)
put it on root.
INSTLLING:
1a)now, do a backup in your recovery, before you do anything, so if your phone gets in trouble, you can go back. DO A BACKUP!!!
1b)start by installing 4EXT.
2)then install the FW (PG58IMG.zip) as if you would install a ROM.
when its done, dont reboot. take out the SD card, and delete the PG58IMG.zip file from your SD card. but sd back into the phone.
3)Now, you do a superwipe, via 4EXT (as a rom)
4)then install the ROM you want. (always check if the rom match the FW)
during the install, it might ask you different questions, so follow carefully..
If you cant go into bootloader, go to Settings>power and unbox the Fastboot. try again...should work now.
this is all

You will not have to flash a new recovery after flashing the new firmware Mac... but I do think that when you go the flash a new custom rom from here I would wipe the phone (ie) super wipe or use the builtin one in 4ext under (wipe and format) use wipe everything but SDcard.....
Thank you for the help and patience. Much abliged.

no problem, just one thing, if you have super wipe only use it with sense roms not AOSP roms, and if you are using any of the new sense 4 roms like OrDroid or Insertcoin that is builtin the rom when you install too, just read everything very carefully because of the installer (ie) Aroma installler.....

All you need to do is full wipe and flash an ICS rom + its boot.img, no need for an RUU. but why would you want to downgrade?

Well first thanks for answering ..!! second i want to downgrade because when updating to JB the gyroscope stops working .. and it wont work on some apps ... im will try this ics rom if i dont like it im back with JB thanks for the answer!
You might just try another JB custom ROM, if its JB you want. I'm on ViperXL, and was also briefly on stock rooted JB, and haven't had any gyro problems that I can tell.
Of course ICS is solid too, and in my opinion, the changes in JB are not that significant (and not worth it, if its causing you problems). Flash any ICS custom ROM same as you would a JB custom. No need to downgrade hboot or anything (as you need to do on some devices, if that was what you were thinking).
Make sure you've done the following, regardless of whether you flash an ICS or JB custom:
Factory reset in TWRP (not in hboot, as it will corrupt the SD)
Wipe cache and dalvik
Flash ROM
Flash boot.img in fastboot, if needed for the custom ROM
Don't restore any system settings or data using Titanium
Cool I found my answers here as well. Patience in reading helps lol. Thanks all

Most of the time yes you will have to install the boot .img manually coming from a different base or Rom... But say if you're on viper and your back up is the same base sense Rom you probably wouldn't have to reflash it... But if coming from cm10 or anything else yes

Be safe and flash it
Is it necessary to reflash rom before restore or can you just fastboot flash boot.IMG and just restore backup?

I believe you have to flash boot. IMG and than restore according to the comments up there
I just wish we had to option to downgrade the software/hboot without going thru all those steps listed, I remeber i had the htc inspire and you will be able to downgrade hboot by choosing a downgraded version of Ruuu files.

not sure what you mean with your last sentence... but:
in my case the ota deleted my root. but I also recommend to do a factory reset after updating to 4.1 sense 4+, just to be sure that you have a clean jb rom (do titanium backups of your apps you wanna keep).
but you have to be on stock recovery if you want to apply the ota.
after your update you can root your phone again.
applying the ota wont have any effect on flashing a higher / newer custom rom.
you only have to be unlocked and on custom recovery. but you alawys have to flash the boot.img of the custom rom after flashing the custom rom zip.

the rom you want to flash doesnt care about your previous rom, because you wiped your previous rom.
so it really doesnt matter which rom you have before if you want to flash a new rom.
its like.. you have installed windows xp, then format your hdd and install windows 7, windows 7 doesnt take a --- about the old os
recovery and rom are two different parts.
you can stock recovery and custom rom, you can have custom recovery and custom rom, you can have stock recovery and stock rom.. blaaa
