[Q] Help on the new update - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

I'm running the gingerclone rom and went ahead and let the update do it's thing just so that i'd stop getting the damn notification. I'm well aware that the update doesn't actually work when rooted/rom'ed/etc.
my question is; how do i update (after odin stock, etc)? do i just go to software update? is it even possible to still update after i already (technically) did it?
my goal is to flash the new kg2 'rom' sdu posted
thanks boys.

The rom I posted/am posting won't actually look any different to you, as it's stock, it just has some backend changes called deodexing, that basically allows for theming and customization by the rom creators. If you used the odin stock KG2 from ayoteddy that was recently posted, you are already on the new update. If you only used the old KD1 odin post, then you can either download and flash my update, or just use ayoteddy's KG2 odin.

[Q] Rooted

I rooted my Samsung mesmerize and deleted some apps.
Now I have a blank screen and can't find no apps. I've
tried everything, Took out battery with no luck.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
You gotta be careful deleting factory apps.
If you made a backup first, try restoring that. If not, your best bet is to perform an odin flash back to stock (though if you're gonna do that, you might as well flash the EC10 release and have froyo).
From there, if you want the stock experience but less bloatware, just flash the pick-n-pack rom in the development forum (just make sure it's the same baseband version that you flashed via odin). The pick-n-pack rom is a stock rom with everything that can be safely removed pulled out of it, and has been modified to support third party themes. There are also addon packs which can be used to add back in whatever stock apps you might still want.

[ROM][CWM]Stock Deodexed KG2 w/Bali and Root

Following up on my ported Bali kernel, here's a "ROM" to use it with, even though this really isn't much of a ROM, but more of a base for other themers to work with. It's a deodexed version of our update, and includes Root, as well as my ported Bali kernel. Other than that, nothing should be different from the Stock ODIN update.
My test had a broken browser app, so I pulled the stock browser for KG1 and deodexed it.
-BaliKG1 port from Dr. Honk's original Bali kernel
-Deodexed and rooted
-Flash script from ayoteddy's roms
-Updated Market, and Voodoo Control app by Supercurio to make use of the Bali kernel.
This does include Bali, but the name isn't changed in settings, this will be an update to the Bali kernel when I get motivated to do it, as that is just an asthetic change, it doesn't make a difference to the actual functionality of the kernel.

Can this be flashed over a rooted KG1? I tried doing so and I softbricked. I'm in the process of ODINing to stock KG2.
Also, is it safe to restore the data from a KG1 nandroid?
This should work to flash from KG1, you may have softbricked because you didn't check your mounts before and after flashing? restoring data should be fine, make sure you wipe your dalvik-cache from the advanced menu in CWM after restoring your data so that it rebuilds.
Yea, I don't think I checked my mounts. I'm ODIN'ing to KG2, then I'll be rooting, CWM'ing, and then flashing this ROM. Thanks!
Let me know if you're still having problems, I'll do my best to help you out!
I got it to work. Thanks for giving me the heads up on the mounts. I'm sure that's what softbricked me. Thanks again!

So is this rom up to speed compared to Smooth Maximus GingerClone? I'm reading form T-Mobile support that it actually lags a lot more than stock rom. Can this be flashed from GingerClone? Or must I odin first?
This can be flashed from GingerClone, as it contains both the updated firmware and the updated kernel. This is not really intended to be a rom persay, but rather to be a base for other themers and devs to make roms with. There's no speed changes, other than the lagfix that comes from Bali.
I'm using it now. It is pretty good already with bali implemented. Other than Media Room becoming an active process periodically, the stock experience is going well. The disability of the track pad will be very helpful outdoors.
Also got a soft brick trying this. Goes to the boot screen, and the motor buzzes once, then twice in a row, pauses then does the buzzing again.
Double checked the mounts before doing it.
Can still get into recovery, but trying to reinstall packages gives an invalid signature error.
Ugh...
Then it didn't flash correctly. You would have red CWM if this flashed correctly. Odin back to stock and try again, as if you can't get into recovery correctly, you can't do anything from there. You may want to redownload to make sure that you get a good copy.
That's what I did. Odin to stoc kg2, rooted, added cwm recovery (orange) then used same copy i downloaded earlier to flash. Worked properly.
Might be worth a test, that this might not be cwm flashable over stock kd1. Thats 2 reports of it happening so far, and i am not a beginner in flashing or following directions. Just an annoyance really, odin was painless to use. (Now, having to reinstall windows on a old pc laptop, so much fun /sarcasm) ;P
I've done it before just fine, flashing on the SK4G is different from most phones, if you don't check your mounts before and after, then it will not work.
All ROMs here include a KD1 or KG2 specific kernel in addition to their specific systems, so as long as mounts are checked, everything is overwritten. /system is entirely wiped in the flashing process, and a new kernel is flashed. There is no possible way, given a correct flashing procedure and a ROM that includes a kernel (which as far as I know are all the ones here) that this would not work to flash KD1 over KG2 or vice versa.
So far, this is the fastest rom I've tried, thank you for creating it! Even if its stock.
This had serve me fantastically. Wish the same was available for kj2

Does anyone have this file still?

[Q] Droid Charge Baseband-Help

Ok..I always try to figure it out by searching the forums...could not get there this time. I had Humbles rom on the phone...then I realized I should update my Baseband...so the mission starts.. I started on Basband ep3 on both the first and second lines..after reading it sounded like I needed to flash back to stock to get the update to ee4....I first deactivated voodo by adding the file directly ...reset phone then waited while the sexy voice said it was deactivated... then I flashed the stock rom...when I powered up the the phone on stock ...it did download the update...while installing the update it crashes and does not install correctly...so after messing around I re-flashed the stock rom and then downloaded the update again.....same thing happened.....then after reading some more I thought maybe my partitions where jacked so I flashed charge.pit ...now my phone wouldn't even show signs of life...stressing a bit ....I was able to flash Hummble 4.0 which brought my phone back to life...happy that it is working I'm now back where I originally started but now I'm on Ep1...even worse than before I started..lol
Does anyone have any ideas why it would not update? any help would be great!
Ep3 is the newest radio version. Ep1 is the second newest. And ee4 is the oldest. So you were really trying to unupdate. You are fine with the ep1 modems. But if you want to upgrade flash the ep3h radios through Odin.

Here ya go - EP3 Modem
The only reason you ever need to go back to stock is if you want to "unroot" your phone or to fix soft bricks. The baseband version corrosponds to the type of radios your phone is running (how you get your signal). And the radios are always independent of your ROM. Here's a short overview of the different radios from beginning to present.
ED1: Original charge modem. (sucked).
ED2: still sucks.
EE4: Latest official update for the droid charge. This is the radio that most Froyo Roms are based off of.
<I'm going to skip over a few because they are kind of non-existant now>
EP1Q: A leaked Gingerbread Radio. Significant improvements in signal strength.
EP1W: Improves upon EP1Q radio by handling data switching better. (A lot of Gingerbread ROMS are based off of this radio).
EP3H: The newest radio and probably the best. Some small improvements in data switching and got rid of occasional "popping" sounds from EP1W radio. Most of the newest ROMS use this radio as a base (Meaning they are optimized to use this radio).
Long story short, use the latest Radios. They always bring improvements. =)

[Q] Flashing back to stock after Gingerbread

i am selling my phone and want to flash back to stock for the new owner so they can get updates. Right now im running KK4. Can I Use odin One Click back to 2.1 then let Kies update to 2.2 with out bootloader problems? Will Odin or kies change my gingerbread bootloaders. I dont know much about rules of bootloaders. Any help would be greatly appreciated and repped.
Thanks
I highly doubt There will be updates...
Stick with kk4.
Or you could just flash a 2.2 package and skip the kies step. Bootloaders are backwards compatible. Ginger boots work with earlier versions of Android.
I want to make sure kies updates just in case AT&T releases gingerbread for the captivate. Also im having battery drain problems with kk4.
hardly anyone ever gets keis to work after custom roms, and if you want 2.2 the odin flash 2.2. why odin flash 2.1 then upgrade? dont make no sense!
and when gingerbread does get released, it will be ALL OVER THIS PLACE!!! new Odin flashes, new roms, new source, new kernels, new theads.... MINUTES AFTER RELEASE. Waaaayyyyyy before you would notice by randomly checking with keis....
xda.
not keis.
The point is to get this phone truly stock so who ever buys it can get ota or keis updates if there happen to be any in the future.

Search for Stock KB2 by Adam Outler.
I just did this when I had to replace my cappy (power button wouldn't respond half the time). I flashed back to 2.1 with the one click from DG then used kies to update to 2.2 with no problem.
I like to recommend kb2 now because a lot of refurbs and later builds came with that build. Also, trying to flash a Froyo shipped device with JF6 well cause a bootloop. So, as a blanket statement I say use KB2.

2.3.6 Root questions/AOSP 2.3.x?

I have two questions...
1. I had rooted my A2 when it was 2.3.5 and deleted a few apps. When the OTA update to 2.3.6 rolled around, I couldn't update because ATT is a grouch. Anyway, to solve that problem, I had to flash stock 2.3.5 back onto the phone removing root access and everything. I then proceeded to update to 2.3.6 which is fine. that's running stock as I type this. My question is, if I root it again on 2.3.6 (I know it's there...) and I freeze apps, when another OTA update rolls around, will I be able to update again? I don't want to have to flash it back to 2.3.6...(can I even do that yet?) so any help here would be appreciated.
2. I was out and about, and was looking at one of my friend's phones. She has this HTC HD2 running Android 2.3.3 AOSP. She uses ADWLauncher, etc etc. This is a Windows Phone, originally. That got me thinking...is there a AOSP version of Gingerbread for my A2? Without Blur? I'm kinda scared to do anything to it, because I want to be able to get ICS come July. Any tips here would help.
Sorry for not using the searchbar, I was just having trouble finding this info. Thanks guys!
1. Yes. Freezing apps / removing bloat as root will almost definitely keep you from the any OTA. Its the nature of the beast. You can always return to stock and apply the updates later. Also, any major update like ICS will produce a lot of posts here about how to update from an altered rom.
2. There is development work on getting CM7 to work on our phone. Currently the only released ROM that I am aware of is lfaber06's ROM

When a major update such as ICS is released, there will be alternate ways to install such as through bootstrap. Hopefully we'll find a leaked version of ICS before that, and pull the radio get CM9 working
Okay. So I'm planning on rooting it...now...but when I flashed 2.3.5 from the fxz someone provided, it said that once you updated to 2.3.6 you could never go back...but...
I'll try it.
What's bootstrap? I've heard about it and no one has been able to dumb it down for me...could anyone do that?
You can flash the FXZ after the update. It just requires a bit of modification and care. You might want to read the noob thread. It has lots of useful info.
Bootstrap is a way to backup, restore, and flash zips before android boots.
I just rooted the 2.3.6 it's running wonderfully.
Should I install the ibfaber deoxed rom? I mean I know I can do it per instructions but is it worth it?
It depends on what you want to do. If you want to apply any themes you will need to be running the deoxed rom. He also has a supercharged rom that has a lot more customization.
