Hey, I've searched through the cyanogenmod 7 thread looking for an answer and I couldn't find one that helped to solve my problem. Every time I try to install the rom I keep on getting the status 7 error message. I took the advice of some and formatted the phone, cleared the cache (all of them) twice each and still no luck. I saw one poster that recommend replacing the update script but the link he gave is no longer active. I'm very new to all of this and I've tried search as much as I could but came to find nothing that helped me out too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Use the CWM recovery linked in the CM7 thread
I've already installed the CWM Recovery and the Voodoo Kernal. I tried installing it after the CWM and I got the error so then I installed the Voodoo Kernal and got the same thing.
Ps. this is the CWM Recovery I'm using, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16115419&highlight=cwm+recovory#post16115419
(sorry it wont let me post the actual link, but its the CWM3_CM7
Get the one from the fascinate CM7 thread. Why are you worried about installing a voodoo kernel? Sounds like some more reading would be a good idea before flashing anything.
Is this the one you're referring to? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
I only went for the voodoo because it was suggested by someone else.

No. The Fascinate CM7 thread.
I did as you suggested and now it installs, but when I try to boot up, it is stuck at the "Galaxy S Gyanogen (mod)" screen. Thanks for your help again though, I've at least made some progress haha.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G Gingerbread 2.3.6 Update and Root
So i found this over at http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6794946
if anyone has tried this let me know what happens and what you think. I bought this phone used a few weeks ago. I had no idea about rooting and unlocking and roms, I basically learned everyrthing thru research here....so naturally im a tad skeptical of things outside of this forum....silly
Ive rooted and unloked my phone. ive flashed several roms. right now i have the octane v2.3.5...smooth resposive fast
Not sure it's much if any different from what you can get out of the forums here. I'm running rooted 2.3.6.
I'm a 'better to be safe than sorry' type. Looks like that links makes a coupke of references back to here, anyway.

Don't use anything that isn't on this forum or in RootzWiki. You'll just get flamed for hard bricking by using something from another site.
Rooting and deleting bloat
I got this T959V last week and knew there had to be development on it. I got a Pandigital novel last christmas and learned some good lessons about android over at slatredroid. I was happy to find so much good work here and jumped right into flashing after slogging through this swamp (that's a compliment!) of info and choices. My phone arrived with Froyo 2.2.1 and stock T959VUVKD1. After getting my mind wrapped around the possibility of bricking the thing (which, thanks to the nature of the device and/or the excellent developers here, seems less likely than with the Pandigital) I used Odin to flash right to FW2.3.5, then tonight to FW2.3.6, T959VUVKJ5, kernel 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKF1-CL270364
I have not removed my sdcard (unlike w/pandigital flashing) or sim card on either of the three stops in my upgrading. HOWEVER, when I followed dsexton702's guide to rooting I did have to remove my battery - the red blowfish after loading his first rooting tarball nearly had me dropping a load in my pants. Couldn't power down with the button, so I pulled the battery and hoped. Put the battery back in, powered on and it booted. I thought factory reset, then reflashing 2.3.6 and forgetting about rooting. But I do want to remove some of the bloat from the device, so I just used odin to upload the second rooting tar and prayed! It worked! Thank you, dsxton702!
At least it seems to have worked. When I open titanium it now recognizes the device as rooted. I am using the freebie, which may be my real problem. But, anyway, here's where I am. When I try to delete preinstalled software like slacke by doing FORCE REMOVE APP in titanium I get this result:
finding update package
unknown volume for path [SYSTEM:/app/slackerradio.apk]
Can't mount SYSTEM:/app/slackerradio.apk
Installation aborted
Given these choices, I tried #4 first, then #1:
reboot system
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
The app remains. I know I have to buy the app to freeze other apps; the error message tells me so. But to delete, is my problem that I am using the titanium freebie, or am I doing something wrong with the freebie?
So has anyone tried it? I just want to make sure someone has confirmation before I try this one.

Neon - Use the GB Ext4 Starter Pack - It works.
Or use The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection - It works.
Or use ROM-ODIN-2.3.6-Gingerbread Offical - It works.
If there were torrents for downloads things would be much easier:laugh:
Help me with Valhalla Custom ROM flashing
Hello. I just thought this forum to be the appropriate one for posting my issue. I have SGS4G. Using XDA forums help I have been able to upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6. lumin30's "[GUIDES] Fresh out of box Galaxy S 4G | Heimdall One-Click For Dummies" I have flashed my Kernel and installed CWM. Thanks a lot lumin30 for your guide. It really helped a noob like me.
However I am facing below problems
1. From the same link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470716 I chose Valhalla Black FB edition. And when i choose "vb-fb-build-4.zip" download link it downloads very slowly and evenif the total file size initially shows as 143MB, however only 20-40MB files are getting downloaded. I have tried several times. Same issue..not sure why. Anyone has any link from where I can get the latest Valhalla Black FB edition?
2. When I tried to take the Valhalla Black FB Edition from "https://github.com/teamacid/valhalla-black (Valhalla Black FB Edition on GitHub) and downloaded it it was around 141MB. The name was "teamacid-valhalla-black-build3-4-ge768021.zip". not sure if this is the FB version or not. Anyway when I try flashing this ROM I am getting "update opening and installation aborted" on top it says "choose the update file from sdcard" or any other location kind of information..
Could anyone help me with these questions. It will really be a great help as I need to flash the ROM. Do I also need to install some more files along with the ROM?
Please help!!

i didnt wanna have to post and seem dumb but ive searched through and tried every last thing i could find and manage to do. I found the thread for the phone i used this thread right here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759) i figured easier was better right? well got through that but i wanted to add the bionix frost ROM and no matter what i try i can not get into CWM mode, i went to the thread with the download for the update.zip, didnt work, i also tried the thread i found online using Odin 1.7 to try and put CWM on there and nothing is working when i tried that route the phone stayed on a connect to pc symbol and i had to completely redo the odin with stock + root, is there something im missing? i typically can find the answers on my own, but im now stumped as what to do and been reading through attempting things for hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You sure you went to krylon's CWM FINAL thread? The link should be working.

Hey,
I'm trying to install the [ROM] Team Tiamat Xoom Rom 2.2.2 - Moray [9/10/11].
I've got CWM installed (version recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img but also tried latest version from ROM Manager).
Each time i try to install the .zip it get's to opening package and then just exits to the CWM menu?
It's probably a common thing, but couldn't find anything from a search? Anyone got any ideas?
This has been covered many times so take the time to do a search.

I had to thank you Muffycheeks for your excellent answer. I am not sure why you did not at least give an indication about where to find the answer or what the issue is? Lucky this was posted in Q&A and not in the dev thread!
I am new to Xoom (only got it since yesterday) and have managed to get the bootloader unlocked and custom recovery installed. For some reason when I reboot the device the recovery is flash back to 3e (I suppose this has been also debated millions of times but I cannot find it yet...)
I had been able to flash one of the custom roms but it gets stuck in bootscreen. I wiped everything I could think of and followed a couple of advices and still not working.
I am downloading the other rom (as far as I can tell there are only 2 customs with one of them based on the other one) and will see if that works.
Sorry Addicteddddd for highjacking your thread but I have been searching for a while until I found your thread and I thought my issues were over to find the standard helpful XDA answer. Some people might have had their device for years but some other are quite new to this.
K.
EDIT: It seems that one of the recoveries do not advise if a ZIP file is bad and therfore comes back with no message. I suppose this is why this is happening.
I downloaded 3 ZIP files and they are all corrput. Not sure what is happening here but anyway.

I don't know if you used this guide but there is a bit of discussion of some issues regarding cwm recovery versions and some pitfalls while trying to flash.Check it out if you haven't
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
Also, how are you downloading the file? Are you getting the right version? If you are using the R4c v3.2.0.0 it should be called solarnz, not tiamat. The guide has the correct link.

Good day everyone.
I've run into a rather frustrating issue I haven't seen anyone solve, especially for this specific phone.
I'm running CM9-alpha5 right now, and I'm trying to flash one of the newer versions but I keep getting this "(status 7) installation aborted" no matter what ROM I attempt to flash now, even when I try to flash alpha-4 in which I was previously running.
I've made sure the permissions are set to read and write for everyone from within my computer(running pangolin ubuntu right now) and alas, the status remains 7.
Luckily I'm able to still re-flash alpha 5 and use my phone but... what gives?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I feel I should clarify that I've been downloading these from get.cm like I have been, and transferring them directly to my sd card.
It feels like an odd permission screw-up, but I'm wondering if either that's not it or if there is any easier route to take than backing up and completely formatting my sd..
You didn't mention what recovery you're on, but I'd suggest trying a different one. There have been issues with some of the ROM Manager versions. We've had good success with:

Thanks for the reply! I'm running CWM non-touch v.5.0.2.7 right now. The strangest thing is I came home, downloaded the 6-20 Nightly, and flashed it with success! so I guess the previous point is kind of null now, but I still feel I should update my CWM. Do you have any suggestions as to how I should go about updating from my old non-touch to the new touch? Thanks again for the reply!

Installing on linux... not so fun. I said forget it and came to use my parents windows machine to just easily use ODIN real quick. I wasn't sure if I had to do any specific backups or anything before flashing but, nope, it was simple enough. Thanks again for your help!
Yes, I'm a noob,to XDA, but I am pretty tech capable otherwise.
Yesterday, I unlocked the bootloader on my OneX, installed TWRP 2.3.x recovery, flashed CleanRom, ended up with a soft bricked the phone (still not sure what happened, but I think it was my stupid ancient work computer), tried to reinstall it, but the zip file was no longer in the SD card, tried to mount in recovery, but it was unsuccessful, tried to reinstall the 2.20 RUU, but it failed (all of these were probably B/C my work computer again). Gave up and came home. Got home to my modern PC, reformatted my SD, transferred Zips again and was finally able to get CleanROM to install correctly. All seems good, I setup the phone last night.
However, I have a problem with hyper-links that Scott has already acknowledged here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38936130&postcount=9922
I would have just asked this in that thread, but I don't have enough posts to write in Dev forums.
So, does anyone mind directing me to some basic instructions for 'flashing' the Link Fix Zip that Scott mentioned? I am assuming it is not the same method as installing the ROM.zip from TWRP, or is it?
After soft bricking yesterday, I'd really prefer some hand holding on this so that I don't mess up the successful CleanROM install.
Thanks in advance.
