Hello guys. I recently purchased Tmobile HTC Sensation. I have few question, any help would be greatly appreciated.
1- How to unlock my phone for other carriers? Apart from the usual online services. If anyone would recommend me or tell me if i can do it on my own
2-Once its unlocked, what precautions i need to take while playing with roms, mods, updates so that i dont lock it again.
Thanks a lot guys
Well to answer your questions
1. Use the search button
You have 81 posts and 18 thanks, you should know how to do this kind of stuff.
Unlocking your phone to use with other carriers has nothing to do with rooting, which is where you can install roms and mods. Your asking two different questions in one....
how to install drivers on HTC Sensation 4g TMoUS? im finished to get my hboot version.. sorry its my first time on HTC/Android phone.. tnx.

I already used search button and i do know it has nothing to do with rooting. What i was asking is, we all know sensation can be unlocked for different carriers, and different online vendors are charging for it. My point is, can i do it on my own?
Now that the bootloader is unlocked, flashing radio image or RUU from unbranded sensation should solve the problem. I dont know which part holds the locked carrier mode.
Thanks

Hi all,
I'm wondering how I can check if my HTC Touch Pro is unlocked for installing custom roms. I bought it without a carrier with no simlock.
Don't know if that matters?
Hope that someone can tell me how to check this...
Thanks

If you did not buy it from a carrier, then it should be SIM unlocked, which means you can install anyone's SIM card and the device should work. NOTE - use of a SIM card implies you have a GSM-based Raphael. There are also CDMA Raphael's out there (for North American carriers) which don't use a SIM card.
In either case, if the device is unlocked, then you can go ahead and install any of the Raphael ROMS being developed in the Raphael ROM forum. Be careful, if you have a CDMA Raphael, go to the CDMA forum.
Security Unlocked is something else, and this is only required if you want to flash the RADIO from another device, such as the Blackstone or Quartz models. This, you have to get done by someone else. There is a sticky thread in the Raphael ROM forum where you can get more information.
Personally, I just stick with SIM unlock, since the Raphael-based radios are working just fine for me.
you should probably put hard spl on there just in case to be safe
Ok thanks than I am going to install a custom rom tonight.
Hope it works!
You need to flash hard spl before doing anything.
Oke, does any one know where this is explained?
So just a short explanation about what to do in what order to install custom roms etc...
Thanks a lot already!
Uh, try the noob flashing thread and the hard spl thread in the rom forum, and the flashing thread at fuzemobility.

Hi all, guys!
First of all I want to say thanks to all who get this great forum updated with ROMs, guides and tutorials! I've read all of the most interesting threads and I'm ready to put my hands on my Desire S I'm waiting!
I need only a little advice. The Desire S I'm waiting is branded by my national operator. No SIM lock or other, only some personalizations.
I think I'll debrand it at light speed, flashing an official ROM and then proceed to unlock it / root it.
And here I need ur advice: do you think it's better to flash an old official ROM to unlock and S-OFF with Revolutionary, or to flash the latest and unlock with the HTC tool?! What are the benefits to have S-Off / Unlock VS S-On / Unlock?
Thank you in advance!

If you unlock with HTCDev HTC may notice what you did to your phone. So there is a bigger chance of voiding your warranty.
Also if you s-off you will have much more possibilities for customizing your phone. And everything you do will be much more easy (flashing ROM, changing radio, kernel etc.)
So I would really recommend you not to use htcdev but to s-off your phone by yourself

Ditto.
But if this is the first time you're doing all this, i suggest a few days worth of reading about RUUs, CID, Goldcard, Misc_version, etc, before you contemplate changing branded phone firmware. You may not need it, but knowing this stuff is like having a condom - It's better to have one and not need it, rather that need one and not have it!
Thank u for replies!!!

LOOOL, u're definitively right (about condoms first!!!) !!!
As I said in my post I've read hundreds of posts and tutorials about goldcard and debranding, warranty, S-OFF and many others stuff.
I've downloaded the possible and the unpossible about Desire S!!! And I haven't the phone yet!!! LOOOOOL
Make sure you read the sticky thread in development section. It really helped me a lot when i started. As for roms to enjoy your mobile phone since its new i would suggest not to go to ics yet since some stuff are not functional. Go for 2.3.7 roms mostly. Welcome to Android side and hf.

Thank you nikolaaas.
I know ICS for Saga is not fully functional (yet?! ;D ;D) and a little buggy.
Hope developers may find better solutions when ICS will be official for Saga!
In my case I'd like first of all to debrand my phone and then try some custom ROM (I've read great things about MIUI or Runnymede based ROMS).
By the way I'm not really new in Android experience. As you can see in my signature, thank to great people, I use Android 2.3 in my reallllllly old Polaris since 2 years (with some problems, obviously, but nothing really bad!)! I think that these are the things that make great Android and this group of developers!!!!
Thanks!!!
Ok, I posted a question here yesterday which a mod locked and I'm not sure why since my questions asked two questions and the thread was locked only with the response we don't really do best roms here.
I was more concerned about the unlocked portion of the question. I bought an Inspire 4G unlocked. I am able to insert a SIM from another provider into it and it works; however, I want to root it and install a custom rom on it. In rooting it am I going to lose it being unlocked and have to unlock it again?
Also having problems finding a simple link to all the ROMs like I did when I flashed my thunderbolt.

No, simunlock has nothing to do with root. Once your device was unlocked by IMEI you do not lose that.
Thank you

Hi, i know this is a noobie question, i tried google-ing but i find the answers insufficient. Aside from bootlogo and apps, What is the difference of Vodafone branded and the Local ones?
I got this HTC sensation VF from my friend and I want to flash custom ROMs/firmwares. The phone is already openline but is still on stock rom and unrooted. I am just wondering if I will get problems if I unlock it and then flash firmwares. if so, is it already the same as the local ones?
I came from Samsung phones and I am just new in HTC phones and i know it's more complicated to work around.
i just found answers to my questions, thread closed.
Hey guys and gals! My att one x is on the way. I trying to find out as much as i can, before it arrives, for development and custom rom usage on the new device.
I have been out of the forums since i sold my att note.
I know this is alot to ask for some, but...
Can someone please lead me in the right direction for rooting, recovery (cwm if possible), and rom.
My goal is to use a net 10 sim and unlimited plan with this device. This might/would require a carrier unlock code? I can get the code if i need it but id really just appreciate someone summing up these basic questions with basic links or knowledge of the processes. I feel my contributions to our xda forums warrant these inquiries.
Im sorry that i cannot take the time to read the entire att one x forum and subs. Im literally in constant overtime at work. If someone here has the knowledge and guidance, I would appreciate every bit of help.
Summary : Information needed for...
Root
Recovery
Rom
Misc. Information i need to know, including cross-platform rom compatibility (i. e. One X and att One X)
I want to thank you guys in advance because I know at the heart of XDA lies a caring and gifted community of talented people who feel good helping others.
I promise to run with the information and do as much research and reading as possible when time permits. I have done so with all of my devices and being a creature of habit, well...
Thanks again and please dont expect an immediate response of gratitude, personalized to individual replies, until this weekend when i can get back on here and start the one x root process.
Check out this thread, it's got links to pretty much everything you'll need:

What he said. Also i suggest twrp over CWM. It is touch based, plus it works with plenty of roms. You do want to make sure you are on a version where your phone can be rooted.
Good luck.

Is this an AT&T phone, as I suspect from your post? If so, I hope you can still return it.
There is no root method for AT&T One XL phones on 3.18, and there may not be one for months if ever.

This is very true. If the device is from AT&T and has the 3.18 Jellybean firmware, its can't be rooted. Although its possible there is some old stock at some stores with older firmwares. Anything but 3.18 can be rooted. I think someone posted on here just a couple weeks ago about getting a new phone from an AT&T store that had 1.73 (the version from when the phone was released!).
OP should check the firmware version in Settings, and go from there.
