i haven't tried dialer codes yet but the GPS app Is now called angry GPS. it can be launched with launcher pro activities. will see what the dialer code is soon. otherwise I'd imagine the Nokia server and msbased mode will still help, putting those in the gps.conf would probably still help.
ok after having major issues with my gps i got something that works. for some reason i cant seem to turn off secure socket without issues but it turns out supl.nokia.com works just fin with secure socket set.
i started with jz3's gps.conf and removed the last two lines then put it in /system/ect
angry gps is accessed by the same dialercode as lbs test mode, *#*#3214789650#*#* if you dont know
i set it to msbased operation mode
it is set to hot start
gps logging off
supl server set to supl.nokia.com
supl secure socket is on
agps mode is set to control plane
now im getting 7 meter locks indoors. my second lock was to 35 meters and i got it in 9 seconds also indoors.
+1 to this fixing my gps that was basically non-functional. I was trying nokia but with ss turned off. I guess google wants to make sure that they're the only one's who are tracking your location.
I will try this too....gps has been working fine since dloading gps fix from the market and clearing gps state bit hey....if i can make it even better i am all for it

if i open maps and try to find my current location, it's fast. when i'm in the car and driving... and my wife uses the google nav to get us to a new location... it can't lock on my location. i've left it on for 10+ mins and it cannot find my location. this has happened on multiple roms and in multiple locations.
i'm currently using mdj's cm7.
I had this issue before as well. After some researching on these forums and HTC's forums, it was known that for some reason, our phone takes a while to retrieve the navigation data. It can take up to 20 minutes to "warm up." HTC is already aware of the issue and they're trying to come up with a fix.
However what I do to prevent the phone from warming up all the time, I just leave GPS on and this worked! Instead of waiting 10+ minutes for navi to work, it takes no more than a minute. Sometimes even instant. So just try to leave gps on all the time and you should be fine.
I do leave the GPS on. I found a thread in the dhd section about GPS issues with some tips. I'm going to see if any of those help.

This works. Sounds general, but make sure in Settings>Locations 'USE GPS Satellites is ticked(check-marked....or whatever )
I have faster fix, it's already set to north America. I don't have sense. I think the problem is a result of me running the nav app while driving. I think I have to get a fix before running the nav.

I had to reflash the radio once to get my gps working right. No matter what I did my gps wouldn't use the satellites but after the flash I was all good.

This mod seems to greatly improve initial lock and accuracy for many. Basically, what this does is forces AGPS, changes the server to supl.nokia.com which is much more reliable than google, and some other tweaks. Some users report better results by toggling different settings. Give it a try and post your findings, YMMV.
Instructions: (must be rooted, not CWM flashable)
1) Replace or edit your gps.conf file with the attacmment below. Don't forget to back-up your old one.
2) In LBSTestMode change or verify:
>Operation Mode: MS Based
>SUPL/CP Settings: Server:supl.nokia.com, Port:7275, Secure Socket:OFF, AGPS Mode:SUPL
3) Reboot
4) Making sure GPS, wifi (if available), and data are active, fire up GPS Test or Maps.
Code:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
DEBUG_LEVEL = 3
INTERMEDIATE_POS=1
ACCURACY_THRES=5000
SUPL_HOST=supl.nokia.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
CURRENT_CARRIER=common
DEFAULT_AGPS_ENABLE=TRUE
DEFAULT_SSL_ENABLE=FALSE
DEFAULT_USER_PLANE=TRUE

Yes, just extract and push to your phone or use root explorer. Always a good idea to backup your current file.
i never tried the nokia server but it makes total sense. nokia holds many of the patents that gps uses, seems they'd have a good supl server. also secgps.conf on my phone was set to ms based. first things i did was change it to standalone and tested it, good result not having 2 configurations, then i tried ms based for lbs and secgps.conf and it works amazingly well, maps always performs funky if the secgps.conf and lbs settings dont match, could be the "gps issues" people report on many phones. ill have to try the nokia server now. should try that on the captivate as well.
Any idea on how to access LBSTestMode on the Infuse?
The Shortcut or the keypad method appear not to be working.

If you are using LauncherPro, another cool way is long press on blank spot on home screen>shortcuts>activities>LbsTestMode>first option>ok.

Make sure packet data is enabled.

May I please ask a kind soul to post the default values for the gps test app? I want to see it reentering them would save me from having to wipe and restart.

I was having problems until I read into it a little. What I did was download the app GPS Status off of the android market. Once opened pressed menu, tools, manage A-GPS State. I clicked reset first then did the above again and then clicked the download option. Then I turned on all 3 gps settings (vzw, google, and local gps) and bam it just worked. I hope this helps a little.
I am running VB FB Edition and one thing I have noticed is that my Gps does not work. I would like to use the navigation feature but it seems never to get a lock on. There is many apps in the market that say they fix Gps issues. But what does everyone use to get Gps working? Can some advise me? Thanks for all your input.

Somewhere within the VB black thread I think the apk for angrygps is posted. That was suggested for a while to fix the gps issues.
I have not read anybody else with gps problems on FB's VB. You may need to reflash, or clear caches and fix permissions.
Ok I found my issue under development for some reason I had enabled mock gps location enabled. What is that feature for?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
It can enable you to set a different location from where you actually are. For example, if you use any of the maps/location features that show you stuff around you, say hotels, you can use a mock location of where you're headed (say New York City) vs. where you are now (on the highway in New Jersey) to get what's close to that location.
Clear as mud, right?
Also, you can use mock location for development purposes in case you're making an app that uses a GPS location and you don't get a real GPS location, or testing to see if your app will work with different coordinates and how it will react.
EDIT
Woohoo this was my 2000th post!

I am having a similar issue, but mine takes a good 10 minutes to lock on a signal. This is with a clear sky view and using google maps.
It seems to be getting worse lately. I am on Root66 with the bootloader still locked by the way.
I'm having the same issue as well. It was working like a champ before I flashed CM10.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I truly think it's because we all know Samsung makes great phones, but they lack in the radio department.mine takes a while sometimes even with a clear view of the sky.I think a good update to fix these radio issues would help out allot, unless our xda community can step in before especially now with an unlocked Bootloader

This fixed my issues as well
I'm also seeing trouble with my gps not locking. It's only been in the last couple days, and I've changed nothing since the time that it had been perfect.
Makes me think there's something satellite or google related?
Download "GPS Test" app from the market. Open the app. Go into settings and clear AGPS, then update AGPS. That worked for me. Try that before you Odin back to stock.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
As previously stated, I am NOT using CM10... I tried to download "GPS Test" 5 times and got an error 491 all 5 times (with wifi on or off, did not matter).
EDIT: I restarted my phone and then it downloaded just fine... that is another annoying issue!
GPS
My phone with the stock Rom would generally asquire a GPS lock quickly, but tended to lose it more often than other phones. However, on CM 10 I have had trouble locking as well. For me if I put my phone on the dashboard I usually get a lock in about thirty seconds. I know that doesn't fix it for you, but it is the workaround I've been using so far.
Put a modified gps.conf on.
Use fasterfix and pick a local NTP server.
Turn on google A-GPS (Location services).
It still doesn't lock through objects as well, but it's quick outdoors.

I can confirm that this worked for me as well. Also, when I have locking issues in Maps or Waze, I just launch GPS Test and wait until the "In Use" # of satelittes is 2 or more. When I subsequently go back to Maps or Waze, I get an immediate lock.

I wrote up a lot about this for my previous device, the htc mytouch 4g slide. See this thread for some gps.conf info:

GPS is a real big deal for me, I use the smartphone to get to/from work daily, and my job takes me all over the country so I am never familiar with where I am.
The SGSIII locks quick and accurately outdoors with only gps turned on for location services.
Totally stock, and haven't put it through it's paces yet, but been wandering around in west virginia all day and it's been great.
Clear view of the sky is necessary for good gps function, so trying to use indoors or even under lots of trees is a stretch.
Outside, maybe in a parking lot or field, would be the best place to try to use gps.
Sent from a digital distance.
I found that flashing back to the actual verizon f2 build and then rooting without flashing a deodexed stock rom helped to retain gps with other TW roms like beans or synergy.
Right now I still think that CM10 is risky and you might need to flash stock back on your phone if things stop working like they used to.

thanks
I came from the samsung fascinate which had horrible GPS service for the first 6 months. OTA's were sent out to fix it but it never really worked well. I tried all sorts of programs and configs and deleting files, etc, which might have helped some but never great until one of the devs fixed the issue in the kernel. After that I could get instant lock indoors/outdoors/cloudy skies/etc.... super annoying to go back to a crappy GPS.

I tried this app, it didn't work as I had hoped. At first the app was successful at getting a quicker GPS lock than Maps, but after clearing & updating AGPS, it takes even LONGER for it to lock!
Has anyone else found another method to fix this?
PS: my phone is stock.
others have also suggested using Gps Status & Toolbox, similar to Gps Test.

That's my preference for on the fly.
I took a look at the gps.conf file, seems like it could be better then it is stock at first brush.
Not sure how much or often I can give time at the moment, but tweaking it is on my list.
