NVIDIA and Qualcomm seem to get all the love when it comes to processors for Android devices. While these are powerful processors, we can’t forget about our good old friends from Texas Instruments (TI), whose processors are very capable of running all your content. To prove this, Texas Instruments has just announced they are the first to partner with Netflix to run the Netflix HD app coming to OMAP 4 Android devices.
Netflix HD will be able to stream your favorite movies and TV shows at 1080p at about 30 frames per second. The OMAP 4 Netflix certification will support Android 2.3 Gingerbread. But according to TI, support for other Android versions is coming this year (probably Android 2.3+).

I am not expert on these things but is it really time for XBMC on Android tablets and phones?

In light of the upcoming Atrix 4G with their media hub, this would be perfect for a portable xbmc which you can take anywhere with you (especially when you have to travel).
Open the doors and bring forth XBMC........ please?

Those are two very specif SOC reference designs with limited availability in todays market. The Nexus One for example runs the MSM SOC, and Tegra2 phones were just announced this week.
It chapped my hide to find out that there are nearly full blown XBMC installs available now for iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone 4. How can there not be one in development for the Tegra 2 with existing tablets using that processor already available for purchase for less than $400...?
Yeah, with the elocity a7 @ $299 boasting a tegra 2 and 512 mb of RAM someone should jump on it.

the majority of the libraries aren't a problem in a distribution sense, the NDK has support for that. the problem is the core ones, libc etc. Those which means a custom compiler. This won't do for market inclusion I bet. You can surely do a custom rom and just use the standard arm compiler but it would never be acceptible on market.

just a thought what if it is coded for android live?
Ios version works really we on my iPhone 4. I was completely gob smacked to find out there wasn't a version that could run on my android tablet. Make no sense at all that to open source system dosen't have It while the Analy retentive ios has a fully fledged functional version.
I wouldn't mind some news on this either. I had an Ubuntu 10.04 box, built from spare computer parts, serving as my XBMC hub. I wouldn't mind a smaller more portable version.
I'd love an update too.
It won't work until someone compiles all the libraries XBMC depends on (it's a lot) for Android.
Someone had said they were going to do that, but that was about a month ago and no one has chimed in since then.

i use xbmc on my apple tv 2 (the thing is USELESS without it...) and would really love to have this on either my phone or an android tablet if/when I decide to buy one.

I have been waiting for this since before they released it for ios devices. I would pay good money for the ability to run xbmc on my android devices! If I knew how I would have given it a try but maybe someone who is talented at these things could do there magic. If there is anyone out there working on this it would be fantastic for all of us Android/XBMC users. I just think it suits the android devices better anyways bigger screens faster processors more freedom. Thanks and Please!!
If I buy a Tegra version of a game will it work on the Optimus 3d?? OMAP4 is more powerful but is it compatible?
You can play the games on any modern android phone, Motorola Milestone onwards.
The mileage you get will vary with the processor your phone has.
The games should run better on the 3d due to the chips superior processing power. (Quadrant 2700ish)
Just grab the game from the usual Market, instead of the Tegra thing, to be on the safe side.
If i recall correctly, the tegra zone is just a showcase of the games that show off better gpus like the tegra. once you click download in the tegra zone app it takes you right to the market where anyone can get the same download without tegra zone. The tegra zone is just a way to get news and organized game info.

Well, I don't have one of the netbooks. I do, however, have a Mele 2000 Android based set-top box, which is also based on the Allwinner A10 SoC. In general what I have found about this SoC is that it has kind of a slow CPU by today's standards (single core A8), but it has a very capable GPU, perhaps surprsisingly so. This makes it so the unit is kind of sluggish at general responsiveness, but plays video very well indeed.
For example, Netflix is rather slow to load to the point where it responds to user input. Once it is fully loaded, it works perfectly and plays video very well. YouTube is reasonably responsive and plays video very well even at 1080p (if your Internet will load it fast enough; I tend to stick to 720p for live streams because of my Internet speed). DailyMotion and Vimeo are similar to YouTube, except that their apps tend to be buggier. If you download a Neon enabled VLC, it works very well. General browsing is kind of sluggish compared to more powerful Android devices. Other video streaming apps work well. I find this quite capable as a set-top box. I'm not sure if the SoC is quite as appropriate for a smartbook.
Another possible consideration is that most A10 based devices are quite capable of booting to an alternate system from the SD Card slot. If this is true of this smartbook, that could make it more interesting. You can run Linux on other A10 devices. The only caveat is that video acceleration (the strength of the SoC) is not really working on Linux yet. However, an open source accelerated driver for the Mali series of video chipsets is in development and showing some serious promise. So in the future, this could be a fairly capable Linux device, while still holding it's original value as an Android device. I would try to confirm it's capability to boot from the SD Card (like other A10 devices) before I counted on this capability though.
I'm not complaining or asking anyone to port it, but it just got me thinking: The Shield just got HL2 and Portal, and the Vita is getting Borderlands 2, and by a side-by-side specs comparison the Shield is leaps and bounds more capable than the Vita. So the question is why isn't Borderlands 2 for Shield being made? The only real reasons I can think of are that 1. Android is linux based and BL2 hasn't been ported to linux, which I would imagine would make porting it hard. The reason the Vita got it is because it shares a lot of technical similarities with the PS3. And 2. Nvidia would rather have people only GameStream it so the unfortunate people with AMD cards are forced to go buy Nvidia if they wanna play mobile BL2 so badly. Just some food for thought.
well psvita has a tricore cpu a-9 for gaming(like tegra 3, but one is used for system, its a quad core chip, with the gpu of the ipad , and another thing is if NVidia is partners with the devs, if they are not, and cant make a deal, then it probably wont be ported.
Fun fact: Borderlands 2 for vita runs like a steaming mess.
would love to see this happen though, seeing as Borderlands 2 on Vita runs terribly, was such a disappointment..

Borderlands' engine doesn't have a Linux port I believe. Further, the studio isn't interested in a port that won't earn them huge money. FPS on mobile/tablet is a super niche category. They wouldn't spend the money to divert their "AAA" developer team to making what was essentially a tech demo of an old game for a platform that would not make them money.
Valve, on the other hand, embraces Linux as a way forward and another equal platform. Having their main engines be Linux compatible lowers the porting time and cost for porting it to Android, especially if targeted mainly at Tegra4 and above console style devices (Shield, Mojo, etc).
Trine also works on Linux natively, but that team did some extra shader and effects work to show off the K1 when they ported it.
TL;DR -> If it isn't easy, cheap, or going to make big money, only a studio's attitude toward emerging markets will get them to make ports of games.
I am looking for an Android TV Box that actually has Netflix HD. It must be able to be rootable. Able to add Kodi. Stream H.265. Must have at least 2 gb of Ram. Bluetooth. Able to do 2k. Netflix HD is a must though 1080p or 4k don't matter. If it only does 720p don't bother.
