Please Help!
(b4 I start, I have searched everywhere!)
I am running 2.1 eclair.
The issue is that I rooted my device with z4root. I have reset the device. And verified that I am rooted, I can see the superuser app.
The issue is that root explorer doesn't show the mount r/w button. So I did some searching which suggested that I download busy box. Busybox says that I am not rooted! Further, android ins't asking me if I want to allow these apps root access.
What can be done?
afaik z4root is for froyo
try universal androot (or search another method up on google)

I've downoaded z4root, busybox, terminal and titanium backup.
z4root announces that I've accomplished a temporary root.
Busybox and Titanium Backup says I'm not rooted.
At the terminal prompt, when I enter "su" then it says I don't have permissions.
I'm convinced I'm not being rooted.
I've prowled the forums and don't see where I'm going wrong. I hesitate to try the permanent rooting method, until I see there are no problems with the temporary root.
Froyo 2.2
USB cable off
USB debugging checked
Unknown sources checked
If I do run busybox installer, it does say "BusyBox was not found!" However, when I initially ran z4root, I went the route of 'problem' and it installed BusyBox. I can see it in my list of installed applications
I'd appreciate any troubleshooting guidance.

PS. I'm also open to trying Universal Androot or another temporary method, but I'm not finding consistent information or a reliable download source.
If you are on Froyo 2.2.1? you might want to try SuperOneClick root instead.
Thank you. I read where others had a problem with a temporary root but not with the permanent root. I went ahead and tried the permanent. It worked without a hitch.

Iive tried z4root, universal androot, etc. Temp root always works, but not permanent root. If i do a perm root itll reboot. And root is gone. Its like su doesnnt stick. And if i try rebooting into recovery it says E: cant open cache/command and it wont let me uuse the trackball to select different options. Its running Android 2.1, model # LST-M98A101200359

Hmmm...I tried searching on google for VISIONary but I didnt find anything relevant to a root called VISIONary? Do you know a link for it?

I found info about VISIONary, but apparrently its been removed from the Android Market. I'm liking the option 'Run on Boot' that it offers. Beings its a temp root it will run everytime the system is restarted. If only z4root or Universal Androot had that option. Someone needs to come up with a Universal Permanent root for knock-off brand tablets. But anyways, any ideas of where i can download VISIONary beings its not on the Market anymore?

So I tried your idea of VISIONary, it installed perfetly to my Android Tablet. I opened the app, and I checked:
-Temproot on boot
-Run visionary.sh after root
-Set system r/w after root
And when I click Temproot now, it will go through the process, but when i open Supperuser, it forcecloses, and if I open ROM Manager, it'll say there is no root found. So then I click Attempt Permanent Root within VISIONary, and a bubble popup shows up and says I need to run Temproot before attempting perm root.
Universal Androot works flawlessly for Temp Root, but is there a way to run commands or something to make in run temp root every time I boot up my Tablet?
After an hour searching Google, I came across z4root on these forums, which said it could one-click root my Samsung Acclaim. So I sideloaded it and let it do its permanent root magic. It rebooted with a Superuser app installed, so I assumed it was rooted. I downloaded a terminal emulator app to check this (I looked it up and it said that if you type in su and get #, you're golden) and it said PERMISSION DENIED.
Uhm... ok? I don't know for sure if I have root access. There's still a permanent root and unroot button on my z4root interface, should I try hitting those again?
Download root checker from the market. You might need to install busybox for some root apps to work.

busybox should install with z4 it did on my captivate and superoneclick is good also and it installs busybox also!
Alright, so I tried Root Checker and it says that I'm not rooted when I try "Permanent Root" but it works when I try "Temporary Root." What else could I do to achieve root? Also, it says I'm low on space suddenly.
Try using z4root.

Rooting Samsungs
sdx developers website has some info regarding rooting the acclaim. My advice is to dump any Samsung phone and go with an LG or HTC device. they are much more friendly when it comes to rooting and ROM development.

So I have an SE X10 which I rooted with superonechick which is supposed to have rooted and dl busybox onto my phone. Now what exactly is busybox for and how do I find out if my phone is actually rooted? I know there's somewhere in my phone that I type su and it tells me but I can't remember where to go
And now root checker is saying that I'm not rooted but I have busybox. Which is funny cos when I go to busybox it says that I'm rooted but it's not installed.
Download terminal emulator from market and type in su and got the arrow on KB. If you get a #sign and says terminal emulator has been granted suoeruser permissions you are rooted

Please help. I rooted my evo last yr but have now switched to verizon and need to root my revolution.
I have read many of the threads on this site as wel as others. It seemed that z4root would work and be the simplest way. But now I hope i didn't screw up my phone. Heres what I did:
enabled USB Debugging
downloaded z4root.apk from 4shared onto my SD card
downloaded astro file mgr from the market
started z4root, selected permanent root
it said running exploit in order to obtain root access
then installing shell
then it crashed
i tried again but the z4root app wouldnt open
I uninstalled z4root app, the reinstalled it
Selected temporary root this time
it says running exploit in order to obtain root access but its been like that for about 40 mins.
The circle in the center just keeps spinning.
Should I let it continue? Close it out? Pull the battery?

Currently, we only have root access on these devices. I am currently working on a recovery build, and I have plans for CM7 and CM9 builds in the future. Here's how to consistently and easily get root access on the Tracfone V768G and almost certainly V768 (I have a V768G):

The only functional root exploit I have found is via an obscure Chinese program called VROOT. While there is much speculation in other threads as to the nature of this program (and potential for malware), I have had success with it on multiple occasions where no other tool I tried worked. I have seen no evidence that it installs anything other than its strange app market (as an easily-removable user app!) and a superuser program called KingRoot (as a system app, where it should be). While it appears entirely benign and functional, I personally prefer to use superSU. Therefore, the below instructions will include the removal of KingRoot and installation of SuperSU in its place. It is assumed that you have ZTE's preloaded drivers installed and that you have confirmed adb is working.
Unfortunately, VROOT is a Windows-only application, though it works perfectly in a Windows virtual machine (that's how I use it!).
Download VROOT and the newest SuperSU
Install and run VROOT. It might take more than one try to succeed.
Confirm that KingRoot is installed, and uninstall the 100% Chinese app that is also present. At this point, your device is rooted. You can simply keep KingRoot, but I would advise continuing to install superSU.
Extract "common/Superuser.apk" from the downloaded SuperSU zip and install it on the device via adb or the file manager.
Open SuperSU and grant it root permissions when KingRoot prompts you. Swipe over to the settings pane and select "Switch superuser app".
Follow its instructions. After rebooting the device, simply install SuperSU again, open it, update the su binary when prompted, and select "Install SuperSU inte /system" from the settings pane. You're done!
VROOT installs a app "Superuser.apk" not Kingroot

When I install VROOT via windows, it installs an app called 'Superuser' which I suppose it is to manage root access permissions for other apps. I see no 'KingRoot' app as you mentioned. I only see this 'Superuser' app and a Chinese app.
Either way, this 'Superuser' app appears to not working properly because I am not getting any prompt to either deny or grant root acess to apps like TitaniumBackup or even Root Checker.
I can get root acess via ADB Shell with the su command, but on the phone the 'Superuser' app from VROOT is not prompting me to allow/deny root access.

I was working on getting a custom recovery,but then I ended up getting a Nexus 4 (and then later a nexus 5) and abandoned it. Ill take another look at it. Now that I dont need the phone its less of an issue if I brick it,so I can be a little more agressive.
