[Q] Do I need to unroot to get the OTA GB update? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Bit of a noob question, but do I need to unroot my g2x before the 2.3.3 update? I'm not running any ROM's I just rooted to freeze the bloatware. Will I brick my phone if I run the OTA update without unrooting?

Some ppl are unrooting, but the update will remove it anyway. Head over the General section for more detailed info.

No need to unroot, its safe to run the OTA without urooting. I had my phone rooted with stock recovery and I ran the OTA just fine with the LG tool. Now whether you want to wait for OTA or run the LG tool is a different question. Most people will want to stay away from LG tool and wait for the OTA.

Has the OTA update been pushed to everyone yet? I just loaded the stock 2.2 ROM and back to stock recovery, and it still says I'm up to date (still rooted)

Sam issue for me. Still reads... You have the current version.

Did you get the OTA update yet? Nothing for me.

[Q] Remove root/relock after 3.1 update

OK... so I originally had a rooted WiFi Xoom and then unrooted it to wait for the update then got impatient and re-rooted it to flash the update via clockwork recovery.
I'd like to go ahead and remove root and relock the device. I don't care that much about installing new kernels for SD card since I've got everything stored elsewhere and overclocking doesn't really interest me.
Is there a method of un-rooting and re-locking the device after updating to 3.1? I didn't see a thread on it yet and am unsure how much the unrooting method from 3.0 would have changed.
Thanks
I don't think that Moto has released the stock files for 3.1 yet, that you need to unroot and stay on 3.1. And there have been numerous pleas for help on this forum from users who have tried to relock and ended up bricking their Xoom.

Thanks for the info. I figured I would ask before trying it since I didn't think the 3.01 files would work for 3.1. Guess I will just be patient

Yeah, your best bet would be to relock using the stock images and then wait patiently until you receive the 3.1 OTA.

So to get back to stock from factory, the stock images will work with 3.1 rooted? I want to be on 3.1 not rooted. Thanks

[Q] Updating after root

I searched through the rooting thread, but that only said it was ok to root the phone after installing the latest update from verizon. Now that my phone is rooted, can I still apply the updates verizon pushes down?

No no no NO!
You will lose root.

You wouldnt even get the updates Verizon pushes. You could manually flash the RUU's and you would loose root or you could just wait until the ROM you use starts basing their future versions off of the updates which wont lose root.
If you look on the TB forum sites you will usually be able to find the update for rooted phones to if you are not using a custom ROM.

Can't upgrade to OTA gingerbread to receive july baseband

I've tried both going through the phone prompt to check for updates, and using the LG updater tool, and both ways have failed for me when I try to update my phone to gingerbread. I was on CM7, but I flashed back to the stock rom and re-flashed the stock recovery. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Did you remove any apps? Because I dont think itll continue if you remove the bloatwares..

Will not work if any bloat is removed, if you don't want the bloat but still want to get updates just freeze the bloatware don't remove it.

may want to try this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180331
Or you could try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
follow the instructions for the version (w/bloat) and then you will be up and running with the 2.3.3 update and able to get future OTA updates should there be any..
Side note/ if you still dont want the bloat just freeze it dont remove it.

While that does get the OP to the OTA 2.3.3 gb update it won't restore his baseband and or flash the newer july baseband, which was the whole point of his post.
well then you could try this:

If it works it should flash the new baseband and return his phone to GB stock!
Good luck hope this helps..

[Q] If your phone is rooted can you still get the ota updates? And One more ?

If the skyrocket is rooted can you still get ota updates? If so How? I am new to this. And also what is the current OTA update?
If its just rooted yes and it'll remove your root if you are on a custom ROM then it'll tell you you have one but it wont download
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
If your phone is rooted when an OTA update is released, you won't be able to download it. Unfortunately one have to be on stock to be able to download it, with bloat included and everything.
It told me I had a update but said server was down then I went back to it today and it says my phone is up to date
From what I understand if you are rooted with stock recovery you can take the ota update. If you are rooted with cwm recovery than you cannot take the ota. The beautiful thing I think is than even if you are rooted with cwm, and an ota releases (that you for some wild reason can't wait to have) its easy as pie to flash back to stock. At that point you should be able to take the ota. Heck maybe even just flashing the stock recovery itself would do the trick.....I dunno
As for current ota, most of us seem to have gotten stuck with 2.3.5. But there were quite a few folks who received the 2.3.6 update.

cdshepherd is correct. I was on stock 2.3.5 with stock 3e recovery... and was fully rooted. I was able to take the ATT OTA 2.3.6 update and kept superuser root access.

+1. I got 2.3.6 and kept root access, too. I'm also on stock recovery.
If you are not SO interrested in OTA
cdshepherd is correct, but, when 2.3.6 came out a few weeks ago, several folks were able to get it posted somewhere as a RAR file. you might look around if you are just dying to have it.. I think it was back around 11/21/2011 when I saw it the first time. About 290mb if I recall correctly.
Good luck!

I was rooted and still allowed the OTA update 2.3.6.. and still have root access

Ok people heres the deal. To take an ota update you can be rooted but . You need to have stock recovery, and all bloatware intact. It can be frozen but not deleted. And no one knows yet if the 4.0 ota will remove root. 2.3.6 ota did not. So we can hope.

Atrix 2 restore

He guys i got a ques ...i have rooted my atrix 2...now if we get an ota update i cannot do it because i have rooted and maybe some files have been modified by sulercharger script or some other app....so it i clear my user data from the settings-privacy then will it remove my root and make my phone like stock new...i have never installed any custom rom

Wiping won't unroot I don't think, but root should not affect the update. You will lose it when you update, but there will probably be a way we can make some changes before the update to avoid that.
The supercharger script might be an issue but probably not. It should have an option to unsupercharge anyways, but you should be fine without it.
The update will check to make sure you have not deleted any of the bloat that is not removable without root. so if you have done that your best bet would be to fxz back to stock if it will not update.
Nopes....didnt remove any bloatware....ok so wont that brick my phone as uts rooted...i read somwhere in xda forum that an atrix 2 was soft bricked because the guy rooted
Normally if you are rooted and download and install an OTA update you will lose root. I always have. However, this handy free app has been tested and it says it will preserve your root if you OTA update. Check it out here: OTA Rootkeeper

that won't work for the ICS update. at least with the leaked international ones. No it won't brick you, you will just loose your root. If you wan't the updated to stay rooted, don't do it right away and give us a few days to figure out how to keep it.
Even if you did softbrick you could almost certainly fxz back to stock.
Thanx alot sir..... i wont update until an official update or till we get a fully working ics custom....no hurries
