msn for android? - HTC Sensation

ok, might be a stupid question as MSN belongs to windows but i know that iphone users can install MSN, so gonna try my luck.. is there a possibility to install MSN on my sensation? i mean the real MSN we use on our desktops but just for mobile devices
thanks

There is no official Windows Live client for Android. You can try something like IM+ or a variety of other programs. But don't feel bad, not even Windows Phone had a client before the Mango update.

but if i install one of these clients, will i be able to see and communicate with my friends who are on windows live client?

sure, the best one imho is Epinephrine: fast, simple and easy to use. Latest version can also send files!

Agree with that, Epinephrine is quite good. IM+ is very nice as well, but files are uploaded to their server with this one... I hate that. I want my files sent directly. Epinephrine can do that, but only pictures and sounds I believe. Not TXT files, APKs, whatever. MSN Messenger: Mercury Free can send all types of files directly, but is otherwise inferior to the two alternatives I mentioned.

I prefer Trillian, they have a desktop client and Android client. They both work really well together and it supports a lot more than just MSN.

Looking For Free IM App For WM6/SmartPhone, and free SSH app

Hi. I'm running a T-Mobile Dash with Windows Mobile 6, and I'm looking for a free IM client that can connect to AIM, at least. I know Windows Live gives me Pocket MSNIM, but only a tiny minority of my friends use that. The on-board Oz Instant Messenger refuses to work with AT&T, and I just get error messages, so I'm kind of at a stand-still right now.
The other thing I'm looking for is a lower priority, I'm trying to find an SSH client for my SmartPhone too. PocketPuTTY, I've heard of, but I can't seem to find it. Again, I'm cheap, so I'm hoping for something free.
There's one catch to all this: I'm running a Mac, so EXE installers are no-go. CABs and SFX (Self-Extracting ZIPs) are usable, but anything more complex isn't going to work.
Thanks for all the help!

Welcome to XDA-Dev
Rule of thumb: follow my articles - I've published full Bibles and roundups on almost all aspects of handheld computing. Your question is answered in the Smartphone General forum, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323654
Let me know if you need help in extracing the CAB file of any EXE installers - I'll upload it for you.
Oohh, useful!
Well, thank you. Your article was thorough, and (in the end) informative. I was aware of Mundu, IM+ and Imov messengers, and I was hoping someone had an alternative to them that was free. Your article eventually lead me to the Basic version of Imov, but the problem is that it's one of those set-up EXEs that I can't seem to crack. I've managed to find a download of Imov Basic 1.22, and I'd be willing to provide it for you.
Thank you for the offer, and all the help.

Since I don't see it mentioned, you may be able to use PocketPuTTY,
http://www.pocketputty.net/ ,
for a SSH application. It works for me. The file that you download while named PocketPuTTY.exe is a Windows Mobile binary. Just copy it to your phone and run it. Hope it works for you.
So regarding IM clients Do they all use webgateways provided by the Makers. Are there any that directly connect to the AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN Servers?
Not that I walk around wearing a tinfoil hat. but I just like to know where my data is being sent.
Octro Chat uses one. But I can't find any info as to if mundu uses one. If they all use it I will get over it but I was just curious is anyone knew.
pocket putty doesnt run on smartphones just ppc. i am also looking for a free shh client for smartphone (wm standard)
if your looking for just aim..this is about as good as your gonna get lol

well actually... there's one client that uses the front camera:
ever heard of Netmeeting? it existed way before msn and yahoo.. at that time we (only) had mirc and ICQ those were the days..
anyways microsoft made a netmeeting client por ppc which uses the camera.. never tried it, tho. and the software only works by connecting to an ILS server (much like netmeeting). if you've never heard of Netmeeting, just go to Star->Run-> Conf.exe
about the ppc client.. you can _try_ here: http://research.microsoft.com/~jiangli/portrait/

yups, I use Smaper (formerly known as mChat by mGSLab.com)
http://smape.com/smaperfiles/wm/smaper106w_pe.cab
It's not easy to find the file (or even the description) on smape.com; but with babelfish and some russian translating it's fine (the program is not russian, it's multilanguage)
still waiting for the devs to get filetransfer working again (used to work until june or so, mgslab.com server is routed to smape now) but everything else is fine (ICQ, AIM, jabber, MMP, MSN...)
EDIT:
www.mgslab.com is rerouted, http://pda.mgslab.com/files.html and http://pda.mgslab.com still working. smaper 1.06 is the newer one though, it's an improvement over mchat 2.3.0.x
just my five cents hth

Tks for the link. When I click on it; it diverted to http://research.microsoft.com/mcom/portrait/ AND Microsoft Portrait doesn't work on Kaiser http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387327
this is one of the things that rly angry me in the wmob world.
had that idea long ago when i bough my magician: we had gprs (33.6k baud was more then enough), we had a built-in camera, we have im applications, how cool was to webcam mobily?
and now after 3 years microsoft didnt even cared to pull a wrapper for the phone camera(s).
care to know why not? THE CARRIES! that way they couldnt pull out the astronomicall but lucrative rates on video-calling.
f*ck the exploited capitalism. america has to pay now
i use slick and it works pretty well also free
trying them out
i am trying all the ones that you guys said you like and i looked up aim and got AIM mobile but whenever i try to connect i get " Connectivity error 12029"
and i dont think my wifi is working correctly.. any pointers
qip.ru has a WM client that supports ICQ und Jabber. Im using it on ICQ and Google-Talk. Very stable an no other Problems, even if running for more than one day over GPRS.
ICQ
If you want ICQ-only client,Pigeon is the best on Raphael. I have tried any others, but they have problems playing sound notifications.
Pigeon fulfills all my requests on ICQ client perfectly:
- History in textfile and fast to read back
- Vibration and sound notifications working
- Easy and fast to use
- Nice design with cool smileys
Don't forget to prove whether you client stores some data on the client's provider server! Agile Mobile and Palringo both use a web gateway to connect to Jabber or ICQ. In both cases all your massages and passwords travel through foreign servers. This isn't really nice.
QIP 2040 works really fine on both ICQ und Jabber, and there aren't any problems with notification, vibration etc. And it directly connects to ICQ und Jabber-Server. So there is some privacy!

Sorry for all,I forgot to write, that sound notifications won't play in standby(instead of Pigeon).
Yes, but I've disabled this cause of this anoying Uhoooh It still vibrates.
IM with video
Yo guys, still a bit confused here. Is there or isn't there a mobile IM application that let's you make mobile videocalls to MSN or Skype users?
No. See post #3, 8 and 9.
Pigeon! problems with Vibration
I just installed Pigeon on my Vario IV and everything's working perfect- besides notification with vibration. The sounds work perfectly...
Does anyone no what the problem is?
Do I have to mark both vibration modes or just one?
When I just pick one nothing happens.
Thanks for helping...

[REQ]Looking for developers, Spotify for mobile!

Hello. I'm sure the majority of this site know what Spotify is. And I've discovered some great stuff, that maybe could be ported to a WinMo device.
I'm really, really bad at coding, so I don't know if this is possible, but hey, why not, it's worth a try, right?
So, to the subject. Some Swedish hackers have hacked spotify and made a program to connect to their servers and stream music. It's all opensource, altough no GUI is available.
So my request is, port this program to a WinMo device, and make a nice graphical interface!
Here is the link to the program.

despotify can't be ported to windows mobile. even though its possible, winmo doesnt have a native python runtime, the app would be huge, and to slow to actually be usable.
a new app would have to be programmed in C/C++ or C#
i would love this app two im a big spotify fan and use it alot
+1, seriously now spotify exists for Android and Iphone!
I have been working on a Windows Mobile Spotify client called mySpot.
The first alpha version is complete and I have uploaded it to the forum today.

i read on the blog that they are coding a java version. cant we just throw the java **** on your phones and run it in java?
I've ported despotify/jotify to C# (compact framework), and will release a working Windows Mobile client whenever I manage to build a nice GUI.
Maybe, some day, I will combine it with my old Grooveshark player, and create a all-in-one music app.
Stay tuned

Just look at this explanation!

Why can’t I download Skype Lite or Skype for Windows® phones?
Unfortunately, Skype Lite – a version of Skype for your mobile phone – and Skype for Windows phones are no longer available for download from our site.
We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience – much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and which is now available on Symbian phones. Our focus is on providing a rich user experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop.
We felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones were not offering the best possible Skype experience.

What is skype. I've heard about it for these past 2 years but never bother to check it out.
I just went to the official website and the only thing I got from it was People paying for a skype credit to use skype services such as "free calling" and not using mobile minutes.
Can someone tell me what use do you use skype on their HD2 for? It seems like its great but I am not convinced enough to try it out.
I can upload to u a skype cab. but I suggest to use fring, since it allows to speak with earclip. voice experience provided by skype.cab is very bizzarre...the only loadspeaker will work!
I have Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile which must be executed from your PC and an Active Sync connection and I have it installed on my Rhodium and it works great via Wi-Fi and wherever I have 3G. As just mentioned there is a CAB version available as well. I don't get this decision to make it unavailable to Windows Mobile users given that Verizon Wireless has Windows Mobile devices in their stable and if you get your hands on 3.0 for WM devices why no love for these devices?

Which OS/device for Outlook sync?

Hi there!
I don't usually start posts 'cause reading yours I find what I'm looking for. But since a long time I have a general question for a particular issue. I found people with the same trouble, but the answer is not clear for me.
Let me make an introduction:
I now own a HTC HD with Windows Mobile 6.5. I'm very satisfied with this device and OS because my needs are fully covered. I'm very comfortable with the speed boost from a custom ROM I installed and it does what I need (calls, music, photo, SMSs, GPS). The point is that this device is getting... old. It has 3 years and... well, it has received several hits... :| So I'm thinking that soon I'm going to need another one. And here's the question: which OS? I don't mind if it is Android, WP, iOS, or whatever... But I've got one essential requirement: Outlook. .... I've got about 15 mail accounts I must control, and thousands of data saved over the years saved in my Outlook on my PC. Now I only need ActiveSync to synchronize the contacts, calendar and appointments. Because of that, don't propose using Gmail or similar. I've got tons of data in my PC and lots of accounts. And I don't want/need a continuous data connection because I DON'T NEED IT and, here in Spain, the prices are abusive...
Another application I use a lot is GPS. I'm very happy with my Tomtom (fast, accurate and I update it when I want) and I HATE WIFI-GPS. What I've seen on friends devices made me hate it. I found it very poor accurate. Maybe it has improved... What do you think?
Well, I see Android and iOS devices of my friends and they didn't think Outlook sync can be done with them. Is it true? Can it be done in some way? Must I keep WM6 to do this? I can't believe that an old concern like this (Outlook is even present in Office 2013) can't be done with these modern and powerful devices!!
So that's the question: can I sync Outlook with a OS/device of nowadays? In which? If not, is there any alternative I may choose?
Thank you for your time!
The best for that purpose would be windows phone. It can be done with android/iOS but its way easier and native on windows phone.

Thank you lars1216 for throwing a bit of light.
I heard someone who said that Windows 8 won't be compatible with Outlook sync... Hope he was wrong!
So Windows Phone... OK.
