2.3.4 KG4 GPS settings? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So I'm having issues getting a GPS lock after installing deodexed KG4. I can't access LbsTestMode like in Froyo to mess around with the settings. Any ideas on how to check the GPS settings in Gingerbread (SUPL, standalone vs MS based, etc)?

try out gps aids donate. it has yet to fail me.

Ack. Even with that I can't get into the settings. I'll give it another whirl and then let it sit forever to get that first lock.

sorry. i should have been more clear. download gps aid. go to gps doctor, and click regenerate. the phone will reboot. then go to gps status and let the phone sit for 5 min, but keep the screen on. then reboot and try the gps again

Ya, I just started that. Got a lock in the status section TTFF 231 s, then went away. I'm leaving it for a while and we'll see what it comes up with. The first lock was a good sign, no doubt. Thanks jager.

glad to hear it, man. it is horrible when the gps doesnt work. i've gotten myself into very interesting situations because of it...

So this app (donated version) will fix the GB KG4 Issue with GPS? I am in the same boat.. no lock-ons. And I've been battling with it for a little bit now.. I've tried GPS Aids lite, but it seems to do nothing to help.. doesn't even d-load the "XTRA" file... refuses to even with a perfect net connection and GPS view...

I got a few quick locks with the help of GPS Aids, but overall it was just too slow to lock so I'm back on Froyo now (ICBINB). I get sub 30 s for TTFF, and 1-2 s afterwards, which I'm just too used to now in every app that needs location awareness.
What I want to try next is flash a GB rom and not restore my data. Maybe the Froyo LTO or XTRA is messing up GB locks. I've just been too lazy at nights to work on it; need my phone 100% in the daytime.

I'm guessing there is no overall big fix for the GB ROMs? Or particularly, KG4?

Jager here to save.the day once again

JI6 no more GPS lock

Upgraded to JI6 via ODIN, a while back from JI7 that I got over the air. Anyways, now waiting official froyo now from sammy. The rare time I need a gps came the other day. Apparently my phone no longer locks any satellites. Haven't played with the LBSTestMode Settings but shouldn't the gps at least be usable with the default settings? What programs do you guys use to workout and test the gps. Google maps doesn't even use my gps when its on. What should I try or should I downgrade to JH7 and call samsung?
I'm not very savvy with my phone yet but I found a couple tricks to make my gps work better. I downloaded an app off the market called GPS Status and toolbox and changed the settings to update gps assistance every time I open the app. It sometimes takes a minute but does better than it used to.
Also, how long are you waiting? Just curious. Another trick you may use is something I found off the forums. Take off your battery cover. Seriously. It helped me get a signal quicker and stronger. I have a phone case that keeps my battery in pretty well without the cover, so I don't have my cover on half the time.
These are both really annoying issues, hardware and software, but I haven't given up yet.let me know if this helps you or if you find something that works better.

If you want Froyo and don't want to wait for Samsung's crap stock version, I just loaded the newest Cognition. GPS works great.

Oh yeah! I just tested gps on Cogv2.3b4, it really rocks, took 20 seconds for the first fix, and get fix in 3 sec for the next time~~~
It's the best performance I've ever seen! on Cogv2.4.1 it never get a lock, so I believe that maybe the problem of that Vibrant rom.
Ive been usig gps status, i left my phone outside with a clear sky view for about 15 minutes and gps status never even finds a satellite let alone a fix on it

updated to Cognition today. It actually finds satellites after a few minutes now, still can't lock any. It was pretty cloudy today but that shouldn't have affected it much.
Is it GPS Status from EclipSim? Try going to settings - gps & sensors - auto download AGPS data, and set it to update if older than one hour or six hours... And seriously try taking off the metal battery cover. If only as an experiment for my sake. I want to know if it's just my phone. Other than that, be patient. The first fix of the day always takes the longest. And GPS Status has a help and release note section for more info. Take two and call me in the morning.

No GPS fix after update to 2.3.3

Always was a dificult to get fast fix with my NS but after the update can't get at all
With Gps status App I can see the gps is seeing 1, 2 or 3 sats but never fixes.
Is anyone experiencing the same after update?
Nope 10char
Sent from my MattedBlues CM7 Nexus S from the XDA Premium app.
No GPS problem ever since i got the phone . now on 2.3.3 RC2.
No issues with GPS here.
Since 2.3.3 for me. GPS takes 1-2 minutes to lock on, even then 20 meters is best accuracy...
wasn't like this with 2.3.0 to 2.3.2

Is there any chance to be a carrier issue because it uses A-GPS?
Never experienced any GPS problems since I purchased the phone.
I´ve been doing some tests and my conclusion is that the GPS on 2.3.3 is little bit better. For me, it fix better but if in movement, it takes too long.
I use GPS test to monitor the signal... before, I was able to see (not to lock or fix) the signals in my living room. Now, inside the house never get a single satelite. But if you go outdoor, even on cloudy day (its been raining for 10 days now) in less than a minute took 8 sats and lock some seconds after.
it is obvious that if you want a real GPS, buy one...
Never had a gps problem.
i have the same problem! I Purchased my NS few days ago and this is devastating since i use gps a lot, I think if rooting will not fix this, I will sell it
Did you guys activate:
Settings -> Locations & Security:
1. Use wireless networks
2. Use GPS satellites?
these two have to be on for GPS to work.

i never used GPS, but yesterday facebook updateded their app and now i can use "locations" since that i had GPS on all the time, but it online worked for me the first time i turned it on, then i have to reboot the phone to find my location
GPS lagg? ?? Never! !!!
Getting a fix with 2.3.2 was a piece of cake, very fast and accurate, now with 2.3.3 it’s an odyssey to get the first one, almost 2 minutes. Any suggestion to improve the time that gps needs to get the first fix?

not really.. the first one has to ALWAYS be on if you want location, with the first one enabled only.. it'll detect your location via towers / network
with the second one enable, its able to precisely track your location providing accuracy on the street.
3rd: turning WiFi on
turning all 3 of those on will guarantee pin point position. but usually i only have to go to at least 1st and 2nd for it. these tips were found in Google Maps
I had a slow gps lock problem when I went to 2.3.3. I flashed the radio image and my gps is working like normal now.
I tried the older radio myself last night. Got GPS fix in less than a minute. I later put kb1 or kb3 back and just takes too long to get a fix position. 1 to 2 minutes and even then its slow at updating my location on screen. Cuts out alot.

I use "GPS status" app from the market.

Is there a reason why the GPS sucks so bad?

Is it just because of the 4G? I owned the OG Droid and Droid X before this. Both of them would get a lock within 5 seconds. The TB takes at least a 45-60+ seconds to lock on, and even then it's not always very accurate. I tried the newer radio but it didn't help. I started getting random reboots so I'm now back to the stock radio.
I love my TB but the ****ty GPS is really disappointing.
Noticed some people have issues with BAMF ROM gps signal...as I tended to have issues with stock. Try a different ROM as some have different tweaks and settings.(Would suggest Liquid Thundersense) Kernel's and Radio's also affect the GPS which could also be the issue.
Id do a search in the development threads. I remember I few discussions on how to improve that. One that works for me is to disable the Google gps services in settings, and only use the Verizon and the other gps option (i forget which one it was )

I sympathize. My BlackBerry would lock very quickly, whereas, without the GPS Status fix, my ThunderBolt took ~60 seconds. Not anywhere near as bad as cold-starting a GPS that doesn't have location-assistance.
In the GPS.conf file, chandelier north-america to us
There is a fix that involves downloading the GPS Status app from the market, let it receive a full lock, then reload your map application and it should lock quicker. I have no idea why this works but it worked wonders for my phone. And if its a placebo effect, I dont care because I got some fast locking GPS now

Nope, Don't work for me. I'm on stock not rooted. I can't seem to actually get a fix period sometimes.
The GPS Status app has done wonders for the GPS lock. Before it took about a minute to lock on, now, about 5 seconds and I get an accurate lock.
The fix I mentioned deff seems to be kinda hit and miss then but I have heard it help a few people in the thread that mentioned it. There are other fixes you can find by searching throughout the forums, there are some in the General section as well as the Development forum. Just keep searching until you find a method that works for you.

It can take 5 minutes for it to finally lock on weith the app, you know when it does when it shows how accurate in feet it is. Restart maps and the lock is very quick from then on.
Yeah - but how long does it take the GPS Status app to get a lock? It seems like that app takes just as long as the Google Navigator to get a lock so what's the advantage? Right now, I'm going on 5 minutes and still can't get a lock on my location.

Kind of misrepresented in a way...the app helps get a quicker gps lock by downloading data assistance much like a-gps. You might need to clear your gps cache data from that applications settings then let it try to lock on....I also noticed the fastest lock is with all 3 gps options selected.

Then when I reopen Maps I get a very fast lock.
It's hard to say HTC rushed it out after all those delays, but HTC rushed it out. The thing lags more than it should, the battery isn't all that, the GPS sucks, and no GB. I regret my purchase every time I see that LTE pricing hasn't gone up!!! I bought this thing first day because of that unfounded rumour... Now the next LTE phone is in the B&M stores and the pricing is still unchanged.
I love using workarounds on a stock device... I cant even get a good version of CM7 on this thing!!!!! It's sad when "the phone after that" isn't even as good as my 2 previous phones. (vPhone 4, D1) I actually reactivated the vPhone and use it exclusively since its battery can last longer than 6 hrs of moderate usage...

You don't have to do that every time you use GPS though, right?

[Q] flashed back to stock gps still broke?

So I used the cwm recovery restore to return to stock, but my gps is still shotty. I tried Krylon's fix and gpsfix but Krylon's was for 2.3 and the menus look nothing alike. I thought about flashing the cwm fix but being for 2.3 I'm pretty sure it's not going to work. Has anyone else had this problem after returning to stock? Found a solution?

Did you flash to Gingerbread build? I did that on one of my g2x's and the GPS seemed to start not locking even after flashing back to stock. It would find satellites but take 10 or 20 minutes to lock on. I tried all the GPS stuff and nothing really worked. GPSfix seemed to help but hard to say for sure.

Yeah I flashed Bionix, the the leak, now back to stock. I do gpsfix then go to navigation and it works until I leave navigation and come back in. I have to run gpsfix every time before I go to navigation or it never gets a lock.
so i get on t mobile live support chat and the guy runs through a list of the simple stuff, then tells me to download gps test and somehow it makes the settings stick. dont know how but it works
Update: even a stock G2x does this. When AGPS data is cleared it takes awhile "cold start" to prime the GPS. Running GPS Test or GPS Status or the #*1809*#999 GPS test for awhile primes the GPS.

GPS Troubles on Nexus S 4G

I have tried running a few different ICS roms and had very bad luck with the GPS working. Is there something I should be doing prior to flashing a a new rom or after flashing that would help get the gps to work?
I have tried GPS Status, GPS Test and GPS Fix but nothing seems to work.
I have read tons of posts and nothing seems consistent in gettting the gps to work.
I have used AOSP 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 and vhgomez roms.

this will be moved into a different forum. dont post questions in development...but to answer your question, if you use those gps apps you sometimes gotta wait a while for it to pick up gps, u cant just hit clear agps data, redownload agps data and boom gps works. sometimes u gotta wait a little for it to find a signal. I've never in my whole history of owning an android phone have had gps issues that i couldnt fix by using those programs. and i've run the aosp oICS rom and had perfect gps.
If your GPS is not working at all, and you've tried everything. Try un-rooting your phone, go back to stock rom, see if that gets GPS to work. Then try to root again. I read on a Google forum that this guy did not have GPS working at all. He though he had a bad GPS chip or something. He un-rooted to return phone to Sprint and for some odd reason the GPS started working again. My GPS does not work also. It did prior to rooting. Im wating for the official OTA to un-root then root in hopes of getting it to work. I dont use GPS much so its not a issue for me at the moment. Good luck.
GPS seemed to be off for all the ROMs I was using, mostly in apps outside of the Maps app. I went back to 2.3.7 stock since I figure ICS OTA should be arriving soon.
Good to know I'm not the only one. I love ics too much to go back. But at least its a known issue. Anyone have any idea why?

Try the QBANIN GPSFix app if you haven't already, otherwise try using your GPS in different areas.
For the longest time I would rage because I had no GPS (or so I thought) when I attempted to use google maps or anything. Tried all the GPS fixes with zips and various apps, unrooted, same thing.
A month later I was on a trip out of state, opened up google maps and got a lock instantly! When I got back home checked gps again, still wouldn't lock.
Turns out for whatever stupid a** reason... about a 1/2 mile radius around my house GPS will not work but as soon as I get out of that area, its almost instant haha. Hopefully you have the same issue as I did

Thanks I will try that next time.
At the moment I have a working GPS all the time again.
On another thread a user indicated he shut all the location services off, then used GPStest or Status to clear the GPSA and then request a GPSA download. They he went back and turned all the location services back on. Sounds strange but it got my GPS working.
