[APP] Spotimote - Spotify remote - Android Apps and Games

Spotimote
Control Spotify on your PC with Spotimote !
(requires the installation of Spotimote server on your PC : http://www.evolu-on.com)
Features :
- Control Spotify : play/pause, next/previous track, volume, shuffle, repeat, track pos
- Access Spotify database and search for tracks or artists
- manages your favorites (tracks, albums...)
- import playlists in your favorites
- access your playlists (Spotify premium account required)
If you have any trouble using spotimote, please send a mail or leave a comment on the web site.
Spotimote communicates with the server component over Wifi. The connection is automatic, you don't have to specify an ip address or anything.
After the installation of the server component, when you launch it for the first time, you may be prompted by the Windows Firewall. You have to authorize the server component to access the network or it won't be able to communicate with your android device.

It works! Almost perfectly!! Nice job, well done!

Any plans to release a mac version?

+1 for mac.

crash on start
I have a crash on the start of the server, i check every task running, no one using libspotify.

Dedicated message between two IP address (PC to PPC)?

Desktop PC to PPC - dedicated message
I wish to run a program on my desktop PC, then have that program send a message to my PPC ...
I could try using SMS and IM, however that requires third party controls to include in my development project.
Is there any application out there that does a dedicated message system between PC and PPC over IP address via internet ( not Lan)
Any ideas ?

Please read my blog: I've also elaborated on TCP/IP based P2P messaging / chat applications there. I recommend MS Portrait the most; see http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&cat=158

astro SMB module

Hello guys,
Do you think you could help: I was trying to use astro SMB module - but no luck. What I did:
1. open ASTRO -> Network -> New -> Windows server
2. I entered following:
: Label: Transfer
: Server: 192.168.1.12 (also tried "windows name")
: Share: transfer
When I click "TEST" I get the message: "Server not found".
Details button opens message: "jcifs.smb.SmbAuthException: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password
Server is Windows XP proff - and other PC's are connecting to the "share" without username/passwords (use simple file sharing).
I am trying to connect using my network's WiFi.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
I have not figured how to use this module in a Windows environment either. One thing I noticed comparing it to the OP is that I do not have a ASTRO -> Network -> New -> Windows server option. Instead of Windows server I only see SFTP, SMB and Bluetooth options.
Is anyone using Astro to browse Windows shares?... If so, can you outline the steps you took to get it to work? Maybe this requires a Samba client in the Windows host? I'm using the latest version available in the Market using a Samsung Captivate.

Hi,
i've like you sftp and smb but it gives to me the same error than tazbo.
Can you tell me what is the right configuration?
SMB, you must enter the username and password of the account with which you log into the Windows machine. The IP address goes in the Server field. No need for a Domain unless you are on a corporate net with domain controller.
It works just perfectly for me, but the machines I connect to require that I log in (Windows login).
I've used this to connect to my Ubuntu file server in my house. While I didn't have to enter a username on the windows boxes that connect to the server, I did have to use "guest" as a username with an empty password field.
Good Luck!

So again, thanks
Please give a link of the module, i cant find it in the market

this is what must be done to use your regular xp user name and password -
1. open windows control panel
2. double click on administrative tools
3. double click on local security policy
4. hi-light security options
5. double click on network access:sharing and security model for local accounts
6. change to classic - local users authenticate as themselves
Thx a bunch, feinmark
I followed those steps you posted, but I still kept getting the same error
These are my setup
===========================================
Server: XXX.XX.XXX.XX (MY computer IP, not my router IP )
Label: Transfer
Share: 'Empty'
Domain: 'Empty'
Directory: 'Empty'
Username: 'my user name'
Passcode: 'Empty' b/c I do not have one for my comp
=============================================
This is the message I still get........
jcifs.smb.SmbException: Failed
to connect:
0.0.0.0<00>/XXX.XX.XXX.XX <- my computer IP
jcifs.util.transport.
TransportException
java.net.ConnectionException:

Can someone please help me :O.....
Disable windows firewall.
If you use win7, make sure your in your network as: 'HOME network' and not as 'PUBLIC'.
Thus fixed it for me..

[APP Idea] server app

Ok, the basic Idea of this App is to provide an easy setup for an ftp & or web server (should be customizable) which also provides a shortened url for easy access.
also my idea was that the app can do this over different of protocolls, bluetooth, w-lan usw.
is something like this technically possible?, i know there are ftpserver apps out there but it is not quite the same.

Easy ftp and web server apps already exist that work over wifi. bluetooth is tricky, as a normal web or ftp server won't be easily usable (but bluetooth already has methods of doing file transfers that works quite well, and there are apps to handle this, like Blutooth File Manager). What is USW?
AFAIK, there is not an app to do those things over ad-hoc wifi - they all require connecting to an access point. Being able to open up an app and have it set up an ad-hoc wireless network with another android device and allow easy high-speed file sharing would be awesome.
As for cellular data, there's a major hurdle to overcome on some carriers. Verizon, for example, does not allow incoming connections over cellular data. So you can set up a web or ftp server, but you won't be able to access it. The way around that is to have the phone establish the connection to some server, then have that server act as the gateway. Bandwidth is not free, though, so I suspect you'd be hard-pressed to find an app that includes that feature, unless it also requires that you set up your own server gateway. I'd like to see something like this - an app that establishes general-purpose 2-way comms with a server application on command (by hitting a "start" button in the app), which then allows you to set up different types of servers (ssh, ftp, web, etc) that are routed through that gateway machine that you set up.
One way to accomplish that whole scheme is to use a VPN - when a VPN is established (even over 3G), you can access any server you want to via the VPN-assigned IP address.

[Q] Personl Home Server...

Greetings,
I love this site and I have been coming here for ideas and help for many years, however I need some help with brain storming and maybe a few ideas. With all your personal information everywhere one starts to wonder, want cant I do this myself? The goal of my project is to house all of my information I can locally. However you might be asking how I will backup this information such as email, music and other data. Simple, at my friend’s place I have a small Linux server running SSH that does daily backups with full backups at the end of the month.
I wanted the abilities of Dropbox, Evernote, email access, tasks, Pandora, etc
Here’s what I have so far:
• Home wiki server just for my information, it’s also private and I am the only one can access the information - for my Evernote solution
• Home media streaming server with Subsonic my Pandora solution
• Home email server – my personal email solution
• Home backup server that’s uses SSH – backup solution.
• Home VPN for remote access
What I am still looking for and planning to deploy:
• A Funambol server for data sync this will include Calendar tasks and contact information. Does anyone know of a different server that would work?
• Remote wipe Application and a location finder such as Lookup out. Would Where’s my droid work for this?
• Firefox sync server for all my bookmarks
Can anyone think of any other neat syncing projects? I guess when you think about it this would be my personal cloud. If you have a question on how I did something fell free and ask. All my Linux Servers I have install scripts that I have made that include packages I installed with commands.
Thanks hope to hear back from you!

We think it's the most complete server app on the Play store, but we would love to hear what you think of it. The trial version can be found on Android Play and is fully functional. The only difference between the trial and paid version is that in the paid version you can run more than two servers at the same time and it doesn't expire.
Download Servers Ultimate from Play
Or support us and use unlimited servers at the same time:
Download Server Ultimate Pro from Play
It would be appreciated if you leave a reply with what you (dis)like about the app! All feedback is welcome!

Server Ultimate Pack B
Server Ultimate Pack C
Server Ultimate Pack D
Server Ultimate Pack E
Server Ultimate Pack F
No feedback? It would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know what you think of it.
Thanks.
Runs nice! Will you be implementing php at all?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Great to hear it runs nice However, the only library available for php on android requires SL4A.
So depending on the requests we might implement it.
Also, no other features you are missing?
Really nice testing it today! That way you don't need a media share device for your Phone like my Galaxy S3. Just enable DLNA and you can stream it to the TV Hope it works that way
I will test this app later.
But can i stream videos or music from a device having this app installed to another?
Great you tink I could run ruby on rails here?

Thanks for the feedback!
@saschb2b That's correct, it works that way. Let me know whether it all works ok!
@mikelodean7 Yes, you can. You could use the webdav server or dlna server and on another client use a player that support webdav or dlna. Let me know whether that worked!
@haffid Unfortunately not, we don't support php or ruby on rails yet. We might implement php but ruby on rails will take a lot longer..
Let me know whether it worked, I'm really curious whether it all works ok.

I´ve tested the DLNA server option. very very easy to set, but i have to find the best DLNA player ( MediaHouse UPnP / DLNA-Browser worked perfectly)
now its running very smoothly. exactly what i was looking for weeks ago. thanks man!!!!
@mikelodean7 So you are playing media using another Android phone from the DLNA server? Great to hear that works. Maybe you could post a little description about it on the google play reviews.
How is everyone else using the app??
So anyone else using the app? Would be great to get some feedback or maybe a review on Play. Worked quite hard on it.
Looks pretty sweet! However I currently don't have a use for this... but I'd definitely be willing to pay for PHP support (Ruby would be awesome-er!) since I'm a web developer and am looking to take my environment on the go.
I just busted out my HTC Hero G3. I hope this works!
Installing on my Viewsonic G-Tab running Jellybean. Going to test running a small mailserver on it. Will let you know what I find.
@dekaru Since more people are asking for it, we'll look into it. But don't get your hopes up, it's quite hard to implement
@LPPalScore Let me know whether it worked!
@indymx Ah, let me know whether it worked! The mail server is quite simple, and if you have problems setting it up you can try the putty to check some raw commands. All the raw commands for smtp and pop3 should work.
Great to hear so many people enjoy using the app!

It doesnt save settings when adding servers, domain names & users.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Could you please describe the steps you took and what Android version you have?
It should work doing the following:
1. click the add server button and select email server
2. fill in a name
3. press back and a popup should ask whether you want to save the settings
4. press yes and it shows up in the list of servers
5. if that works just edit it and add domains and users
And if you get the error that the port is in use you should press the button "Get random port" for the pop3 and smtp port.
Let me know!

It works fine on my Samsung Infuse.
I did all of that, and it just doesn't save anything. Not exactly sure what its doing wrong, but perhaps it's a permissions issue.

So to be clear, the following does happen:
- When you add a server, fill in a name and press the back key a popup asks whether you want to save it.
- When you click yes you get back to the start screen and no server is listed?
Could you try going to the settings page of the app and check the option to save the server settings to the sdcard. Does that work?
And did you ever have problems with other apps?
