[Q] Is it possible to have Vanilla? or Sense? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi quick question is it possible for these phones to use vanilla or sense roms? and if so would someone be willing to make one Froyo or GB?
because personally I hate T-wiz and I use ADW with every rom so far but I would love to have a vanilla ROM I know Sense is HTC just dont know if these things are even possible

hey! this topic has been addressed a lot of times and other threads discuss this.
basically, its very difficult to port over sense because it is completely different than tw. its not really worth the dev's time in some cases, but there are other options, like themes for launchers that are nice. beautiful widgets is nice for the clock and since you like adw, you can get a theme, or look into go launcher. that is a very flexible launcher.

ok but what about Vanilla? and if this is posted somewhere else i havent seen it sorry about that. I have Fancy Pro with ADW ex (Also have Launcher Pro just dont like it as much so I dont install it) and I am able to make it look stock but would just prefer stock rather than having 2+ launchers

If you don't like the launchers, flash to icbinb. And get the theme. It had a cool launcher that I think you will like. try out zeam launcher as well if you get a chance. It's very minimalistic and works great. You can delete tw completely once you get another launcher.

Yes but make sure you already have another launcher before you do

nope, can use adw launcher ex? upgraded one to get few more things. Best thing to do is delete the bloatware you dont want/need to make it as stock as possible.

what do you mean by "nope"?
and you can use any launcher. install one and then delete twlauncher via titanium. look into sweet acid theme, it has a nice launcher

I can't fully answer this question, but if you want a Vanilla FEEL, then yes, it's definitely possible. Just download the Gingerbread launcher from the market. It'll give you a Vanilla feel.

Most people who don't like adw don't really know how to use it.
i hear ya!
Thanks, I hope recognized, the main function can be used normally
It would be nice to have a listing of what works and what doesn't work so folks don't have to refer back to another thread.
ADW EX FTW, everyone should try that
ADW Ex is a paid app on the market. Do you have permission from AnderWeb to include it in the ROM?
I would remove that paid app. thats pretty messed up bro.

GO Launcher/SMS

I use both GO Launcher and GO SMS as of today....very amazing.
Beats LauncherPro and ADW IMO.
Allows a folder style just like the iphones in the app drawer where you drag and drop apps on apps to make folders. It also allows different app drawer styles....left to right scrolling or top to bottom.
It also has re sizable widgets...just like launcher pro plus.
Its overall the snappiest launcher i've used.
Here's some screenshots of my setup!

It isn't much different, does it offer custom docks, swipe gestures, widgets?

I really like GO SMS, but I'm a huge fan LP+...don't see me switching anytime soon. Plus the dev of LP is planning something huge in the app development. Which I hope is coming soon, with the release of ADW EX.
He's gonna rewrite the app instead of basing it off the android launcher...been at it a long time tho

Yeah, that's what I saw on his webpage...hope it drops soon.
Go launcher is the only one I use as well. Lp is kool but I really like that built in app uninstaller and task stop. Its pretty tight especially on the synergy rom.
I haven't used GO Launcher, but I am using GO SMS right now and I am impressed. It seems to be pretty laggy for me, but that is improving with every update, and that I have now set message limits. Also, the turn on screen pop up function is lacking.
It looks nice...MIUI'ish

Still doesn't beat LP or ADW, it lacks everything those two have and the overall layout looks ugly.

have you even tried it..lol
I have paid versions on LP and ADW Ex. I am currently using Go Launcher. It is fast and unobtrusive. I always worry that by adding more features the launchers get bogged down.
I will probably try customizing ADW some more but right now I like Go launcher. I used LP for the longest time before.
People keep requesting more and more features in the Go Launcher thread in the Android Apps section. I actually hope they don't add to much.

Just gave both a try. I really like the go launcher, but its missing a few things I like. I would like the ability to shrink the dock size and put a custom background. I like the app drawermuch better than lp or ADW.
not too shabby

Is there any way someone can port touchwiz 4.0 from the T-Mobile galaxy s 2 to work with our kj6 roms? (Valahalla, octane v3, etc). I know about touchwiz 4.5 but its very unstable on my phone for some reason and its app sorting in the app drawer does not work. I love how smooth tw4 is compared to others like launcher pro and adw and I just think it looks soo much better. I appreciate it if anyone can help. I'm sure other memebers would like this as well. Thanks!

Heres the post that he got the zip from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158266
Follow the instructions and it will work.
Furthermore, I'm running Valhalla- it comes with this launcher, the modified touchwiz 4, on there. You do not need this for valhalla.

That's tw4.5 though..... it has made my phone reboot ever since froyo days. Whenever I do something ram intensive on that launcher, my phone reboots. I never experience that with others like launcher pro. And how the app drawer doesn't sort properly is a pain. Thanks for the help though..

Actually I made the cwm zip from an apk I found while googling for touch wiz 4.0 apk lol it worked so I thought it was worth posting. I've never used 4 or 4.5 and I got the wrong one, lol sorry for the confusion. It was mislabeled and I have no experience with the either of them. The 4.5 comes from the fact that it was a modified version of 4. This launcher automatically comes configured with the stay in ram feature selected- it's been awhile but I am sure that Launcherpro has that feature as well, but it is by default off. Try disabling that and see if it just fc's the launcher (thus resulting in a restart of the launcher) as opposed to your phone crashing. Thats really the only thing that would separate it from other launchers. You can turn the 3d effects off as well to help with the ram. I always make sure to kill passive processes- then again I do not use octane so I am not sure how it runs.
I never had problems with the app drawer. You can change the sorting preferences in the preferences menu of the launcher. It is by default on unrestricted, but you can change it to alphabetical.

I tried turning that off, launcher won't even open anymore so I had to reinstall it. Tried running it for a day but it just doesn't work on my phone which is currently running valahlla final. I have the app drawer set to alphabetical but it still doesn't sort properly. If I install a lot of new apps or delete a lot of apps, there are lots of blank spaces and the only way to get rid of the spaces is to manually move each app one by one which is really a big pain. I just want stock touchwiz 4. I hope someone can get it to work on this phone. After playing with my brother's galaxy s 2, none of the launchers on the market feel anywhere close to that smooth.

Yeah go launcher is pretty good. Still isn't as fast as launcher pro though. I really wish we had a stock touchwiz 4 launcher for this phone. Tw4.5 freezes too much and no other launcher out there really comes close to how fluid tw4 is. I've tried like every launcher in the market too.

Why are you resurrecting old threads and posting the same thing in each one?

ADW Launcher EX

Is friggin awesome with CM7. The included free version of ADW was nice but EX is SMOOTH and ridiculously customizable. Just wish there were more ADW themes.
I agree. I just slap the adw backup file from my G2 onto my Fire sdcard and restore and I am home, sweet home. Its like butter.

ADW Launcher EX is nice. Runs smoothly. It does have one little bug pertaining to the density hack(makes your icons bigger for tablets).
Menu>more>AdwSettings>ReSTART ADW
Unfortunately you need to do this after every bootup if you want the larger icons. Other than that, it's great. Check your inbox. I sent you a PM.

Ok, more details. How do you get ADW Launcher EX on my CyanogenMod 7 install? It runs Ok with the standard ADW but I'd also like the ADW EX version.
Can't I just download it from the Market and install?

Yes. Though you may or may not need to rename the regular ADW.apk that came with cm7. You might not even have to. Some have issues with it some don't.
ADW EX seems to move so much smoother. And I will say in advance that the Density Hack has a little bug that won't apply it after a reboot until you go to menu>more>ADWSettings>Restart ADW. Really is a great launcher even with the minor bug.

In Go Launcher, when you go to the screen that shows all your apps, you can hit the menu button and get an option to turn off icons that you do not use or don't want showing. Does not appear that function is in ADW. Minor gripe but I rather not look at all the system type apps all the time, mixed in with the all my downloaded apps. You can another list of them but I have found nothing to hide ones that you want to kep installed, just don't want them shown all the time.
I was a huge fan of ADW Launcher EX, but then I tried Go Launcher due to all of the hype about it and I have to say it lived up to that hype, its fantastic.
I tried to download and install the standard ADW Launcher onto my stock KF (6.3.1) but it says that my device is not compatible. This was through the Google Play store.
any other sources to d/l this launcher? I'm currently using Go Launcher EX

Stock launcher vertical scrolling?
