ADW Launcher EX - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

Is friggin awesome with CM7. The included free version of ADW was nice but EX is SMOOTH and ridiculously customizable. Just wish there were more ADW themes.

I agree. I just slap the adw backup file from my G2 onto my Fire sdcard and restore and I am home, sweet home. Its like butter.

Yeah, the backup option is awesome.

Was looking at several loaders. Trying to figure out which one to get. Is this one really neat, worth buying? I won't mention the others in your thread but one is kinda expensive for what it is. Already using the free one.

ADW Launcher EX is nice. Runs smoothly. It does have one little bug pertaining to the density hack(makes your icons bigger for tablets).
Menu>more>AdwSettings>ReSTART ADW
Unfortunately you need to do this after every bootup if you want the larger icons. Other than that, it's great. Check your inbox. I sent you a PM.

If you're referring to SPB Shell, I've heard mixed reviews. I'm just not real comfortable paying $15 for any app that can't do my laundry...

Better than the GO one?

Ok, more details. How do you get ADW Launcher EX on my CyanogenMod 7 install? It runs Ok with the standard ADW but I'd also like the ADW EX version.
Can't I just download it from the Market and install?

Yes. Though you may or may not need to rename the regular ADW.apk that came with cm7. You might not even have to. Some have issues with it some don't.
ADW EX seems to move so much smoother. And I will say in advance that the Density Hack has a little bug that won't apply it after a reboot until you go to menu>more>ADWSettings>Restart ADW. Really is a great launcher even with the minor bug.

Got ADW Launcher EX installed with no problem. Only thing, I had to re-do all my widgets and icons. That takes a little time. But, it's working fine. I didn't have to re-name or move anything so far.
Thanks

I got this installed and loved it! Just one question...any way to hide icons like there is in Go Launcher?

In Go Launcher, when you go to the screen that shows all your apps, you can hit the menu button and get an option to turn off icons that you do not use or don't want showing. Does not appear that function is in ADW. Minor gripe but I rather not look at all the system type apps all the time, mixed in with the all my downloaded apps. You can another list of them but I have found nothing to hide ones that you want to kep installed, just don't want them shown all the time.

I was a huge fan of ADW Launcher EX, but then I tried Go Launcher due to all of the hype about it and I have to say it lived up to that hype, its fantastic.

I tried to download and install the standard ADW Launcher onto my stock KF (6.3.1) but it says that my device is not compatible. This was through the Google Play store.
any other sources to d/l this launcher? I'm currently using Go Launcher EX

GO Launcher/SMS

I use both GO Launcher and GO SMS as of today....very amazing.
Beats LauncherPro and ADW IMO.
Allows a folder style just like the iphones in the app drawer where you drag and drop apps on apps to make folders. It also allows different app drawer styles....left to right scrolling or top to bottom.
It also has re sizable widgets...just like launcher pro plus.
Its overall the snappiest launcher i've used.

I really like GO SMS, but I'm a huge fan LP+...don't see me switching anytime soon. Plus the dev of LP is planning something huge in the app development. Which I hope is coming soon, with the release of ADW EX.

Go launcher is the only one I use as well. Lp is kool but I really like that built in app uninstaller and task stop. Its pretty tight especially on the synergy rom.
I haven't used GO Launcher, but I am using GO SMS right now and I am impressed. It seems to be pretty laggy for me, but that is improving with every update, and that I have now set message limits. Also, the turn on screen pop up function is lacking.

I have paid versions on LP and ADW Ex. I am currently using Go Launcher. It is fast and unobtrusive. I always worry that by adding more features the launchers get bogged down.
I will probably try customizing ADW some more but right now I like Go launcher. I used LP for the longest time before.
People keep requesting more and more features in the Go Launcher thread in the Android Apps section. I actually hope they don't add to much.

Just gave both a try. I really like the go launcher, but its missing a few things I like. I would like the ability to shrink the dock size and put a custom background. I like the app drawermuch better than lp or ADW.
not too shabby

I really wish it was a way for stock to have 5 options like launcher pro. That would make stock the number 1 launcher. I'm sure it many others who would like to see that one day.
i like Launcher Pro Plus the best. the way im able to hide icons/notification bar/etc and also do swipe gestures, diggin it!
I've been using Launcher Pro Plus ever since it first came out, and haven't really tried anything else. The number one thing that makes it better than stock for me is the scrolling dock.
I would try ADW or Go, but I'm too lazy to set up all my screens again.

I have used LP, LPP, Stock, ADW, and ADW Ex.
LP and LPP are smoother than ADW, which is smoother than Stock.
ADW Ex has been the smoothest over all for me tho, I have had zero issues with it.
I haven't heard of Zeam or Go, but the other 2 I have tried i didn't really care for were Panda and Open Home.

Lol, I mean I like my icon layouts and am too lazy to recreate them in a new launcher.
I love ADW EX, but he has to implement the ability to change the dock background. The transitions on cm7 are just wicked.
I was a HUGE LP homer until ex dropped, but once the LP re-write is out, if ADW still doesn't have the option to chaneg the background then I'm afraid I'll be going back to LP. The only thing I miss other than that is the bookmark swipe ability..the market has everything else.

It used to be but the latest update killed the hidden dockbar! There is lots of angry comments in the market about it but I can see why he removed it.
Instead of having a normal 5-icon dockbar... and a hidden dockbar (mainly used for tablets) which unlimited icons, he just revamped the app to allow the 1 dockbar to work better.
Right now, the dockbar can have up to 11 icons which is full screen on my Transformer. If I reduce the number of icons, the dock gets smaller to accommodate. I personally don't like it as much as the "always fullscreen hidden dock bar with unlimited icons".
I'm sure he might either add it back in, or put in options to "recreate" the style of the hidden dockbar.
ADW Launcher EX is still on for $0.10 as part of the 10 billion donwloads promotion.
The hidden dock is still available on 1.33.55 all that is needed to access it is simply swiping upwards on the default dock...

You can "hide" the dock bar by removing all icons and making it an invisible picture.
edit: forgot to add the quote. whoops
ADW Ex can act and look just like stock you just have to change the settings.
Instead of 5icons at the the bottom put 3. Even the presets under fast can stop it from doing those crazy pin wheel animations when switch home screens.
ADW Ex as one poster said is the Daddy of Launchers and whoops the rest if you configure it. Especially now you can make your desktop fullscreen and icon dock can appear with just a swip up...now thats money right there.
From my personal experience cm7 is hella laggy and sluggish with the given adw launcher. I always put ADW Ex on my cm7 rom when I have it. A lot quicker and more features.

I have tried ADW, LauncherPro (used for 6 months) and finally used GO Launcher. I have been using GO exclusively for over a year now and love it. Its free and has a ton of add-ons and themes and the GO Team is constantly making updates and improvements. I think there has been like 3 updates just this week alone. Anyway my vote goes to GO Launcher. I use the ICS theme and its pretty sweet, and GO has a ton of performance options.
Definitely Go Launcher
I find GO Launcher to be very sluggish and slow, using FTL or Zeam myself for the speed increase.
I doubt GO Launcher can be sluggish on an Xperia Play WodgeFTW...
It's got decent RAM and a good processor.
I was always a huge fan of Go Launcher but I got sick of it recently (it occasionally failed to load my widgets after a reboot) and wanted a change.
I'm currently using Nemus Launcher and love it. It has a scrollable dock bar, can resize widgets and is lightweight and silky smooth. I don't miss Go at all.

Im trying to pick one too, GOLauncher seems best so far, now that I see I can be rid of those annoying + signs in the dock. Im using it alongside DesktopVisualizeR to make that whole, magazine page tile look.

I use to use GOlauncher, and it was ok, then i switched to ADW Launcher Pro (PAID) and i love it! I am about to try out ssLauncher though its suppose to be 100 times more customizable.

Actually, I find go launcher needs to be restarted every few hours or so for unless I'm running cm7. The stock roms don't seem to be able to run it well. Also, my ZTE Blade which I bought for £89 off contract has more ram (512mb vs 400mb on the play) was able to run it considerably smoother without needing it to be restarted, and it's really mystifying why Sony decided not to have 1gb in there to begin with.

I love the style of Windows phone.
All the tile options allow me to express myself.
My phone is like rainbow at the moment and it is a joy to use.
I've tried ADW, GO, and several others, and I found one that is lightweight and extremely customizable. It's called ZEAM launcher. try it out, it's not even a half a megabyte, if I remember correctly.

So... deleting Xperia Home.apk is probably a stupid idea?

I'd pretty much rather use anything other than Xperia Home, but my main is launcherpro.
It's weird... LauncherPro's damn near abandoned, yet it's still more stable, smooth and battery/resource-efficient than everything normally receiving updates.
...even though I use LP, I notice Xperia Home likes to pop up every now and then just to suck up 15-30MB of my memory. Am I gonna end up causing myself sheer hell if I just rip it outta the system/app folder?

You can't realy change lockscreens because part of it is in the sony framework,
all a third party lockscreen app does is sometimes disable the stock lockscreen.
Or you can just 'freeze' it instead of you don't want to delete it

forget about go launcher and its family it's just gaz-machine , I use holo launcher , it's basically ICS launcher for GB with lot of options , you can lock it to memory when you don't play games and unlock it when you do , plus it have a jellybean-like locker called holo-locker witch is just beautiful

I tried it, couldn't use custom icons. Might as well stick with stock.

what ?? you just have to hold down on an icon and tape "edit" plus it supports all others icon packs now !
I actually prefer the xperia home launcher since it's not on my VZW xplay by default but that's just me i guess.

Yeah but the custom icon ONLY shows up on the home screen NOT in the app drawer which IMO makes the custom icon feature useless.
