These forums are getting littered with people asking for help after screwing up their phones trying to install CM7. Why are people who don't know what they're doing trying to install a ROM that is not yet fully functional? This should be left to devs who are trying to fix issues, not people who need their phones to work. I just don't get it.
I thought the topic was taken down.
Edit: Nevermind, the topic is still there. Imo though, I think it should be taken down and only progress be shown. Might prevent the massive amounts of bricking and general failure to read directions.

Lol, gingerbread I suppose.
But yeah, they should know what they are doing. Otherwise, bricks ahoy!

Thats exactly it, Gingerbread.

I bricked mine like 3 times trying to get "simple" Serendipity to work for the first time.
Gotta love the jig though. Didn't have one brick during the CM7 process though. Just a lot of resets back stock b/c of the mistakes.

Tough luck brah.

People are people and
It's Gingerbread!!
Not sure if gingerbread is worth the risks, but I'm happy that there's lots of people trying it out so I can use a stable release in the future.

Yeah, but too many of those people are ending up in here looking for help when it goes bad. It just takes up space and energy better used to solve issues with actual working ROMs. Let the Devs do the development work that they're so good at.
Probably because CM is a big name dev and people think it'll be superior to what they're currently using, oh, and like it was said earlier, Gingerbread... I don't see what the huge fuss is about with Gingerbread, nothing huge has changed from Froyo and Ice Cream is already in development so I think Gingerbread will turn out to be like the early 2.0 Eclair build, something to skip over until a big update is available.
CM isn't what it used to be back in its hayday with the G1/Dream and MT3G/Magic, so I'm not sure what people are expecting... Nothing against the CM team of course, the entire team does great work even if the releases are taking a really long time compared to before.
I'll be waiting it out, if I get an official Gingerbread update for either of my phones, I'll do them, otherwise I'm going to wait for the next big update which is actually worth installing... But I agree, there seems to be a huge deal about a simple update for no apparent reason at all, Its not like the Eclair > Froyo update which improved performance by a good margin, so really, there isn't much to gain by installing Gingerbread other than a few UI improvements (which most of us won't see anyways since we all use 3rd party launchers).
Here's a perfect example of how dangerous this place can be sometimes.

She just joined, just got a Captivate and already she's asking about flashing CM7. Apparently, none of the warnings were enough, she's willing to take the advice of absolute strangers, some who are willing to push her onward.
It's that damn lock crt-off animation. It's our generation's version of the three sirens, and instead of sail boats, we have android phones

I haven't flashed it because I don't know what I'm doing, scared and too lazy to start messing with odin or the like, but I understand the urge. By all accounts it's stable enough. I'll probably give it a go within a few days. At which point, if I brick my phone, I'll get a new one and consider it a learning experience. Plus, based on what I read yesterday it's never going to be as simple as updating a .zip anyway, so I might as well cross that bridge sooner rather than later.

And yes, I'm not one bit ashamed of lusting for the obvious the gimmick. Gingerbread CRT out animation alone would be worth the risk, tbh, much less the whole gingerbread rom.
If people refuse to heed warnings, its their own fault.
As for Gingerbread, I can't speak for the others, but I want SIP support.
JVM improvements
Gingerbread claimed to have faster garbage collection and OpenGL among other things. It will probably have bigger memory footprint on a downside.
I will wait til Audience noise suppression support is there, which is likely never.
I will probably try it when Voodoo Sound and OC/UV are in the kernel, and all major bugs fixed. This likely to happen with the help of Galaxy S community.
I don't get the attitude towards being more AOSPish. AOSP is already out there. It is Samsung Captivate which needs native driver support to have all its internals fully functional.
I keep Torch 1.5 as a workhorse for now.

Yes, that cursed crt animation. Was drooling over it on preview vid.

There is no aosp for the captivate. Cm is built from actual source compared to piece together roms...which have been good by the way. And why create a thread about cm7 and peoples motives for flashing? Its new...that's why I flashed it! I have never used cm before so I personally wanted to see what it was like. It is the best rom I have used for speed without any lagfix. People have started flashing phones since I have been a member with no experience...it is going to stay that way. It hasn't just started with cm.

True, but while every ROM has its share of issues, I see more posts from people who tried to flash CM7 and had it go horribly wrong than any other. It is a completely different animal as far as flashing goes.
Is it me or has development slow down a bit! It seems it started out strong and lately we haven't seen much aside from Faux and CM updating their ASOP roms.
I mean we don't really have any themers either! I know if I could I would make some!
Coming from the Vibrant there was a lot of themes and dev going on!
Now I know it's been less than two months, but the way it started out I thought we would have more going on!
I guess maybe everyone is waiting on the GB update when ever we get it!
...
we waiting 2.3
gonna be here on 06/16/11
I hope GB gets here on 6/16 that would be the best B-day present I could get lol
I have a replacement unit coming the 22nd, I hope it comes with 2.3 already in it!
...
There are lots of themes. CM7 uses T-Mobile themes and they are downloadable in the market.
No reason to mod stock unless you install the cm theme support.
LG G2x CM7 2.3.4
couple things.
waiting for the gingerbread source from lg to insure everything needed will work. and dont want to release a rom at this point where i cant tell if reboots , wifi, 4g(whre it shuts down than takes a while to start again), as well as gps.
when these features are working on the phone as should than ill start the rom, but no care to spend days trying to figure out why something doesnt work when its the darn baseband that i cant mess with.
themes. the theming engine has taken over unfortunately. it does theme and is a lot easier for the themers(after they learn it) since 1 theme works on all roms. but its just not like the old days where every app was themed and such. some have taken time to write scripts and such so they can make a better more inclusive theme with it , but most of the themes for it are color changes and icons not full themes with every app themed as we were use to . I know several of the themes that are on my rom for the droid would never be able to be as complete through the theming engine. but it does ok just different. and does enable many more themes available to all roms. and its not like a this or that themes can still be made the old way. but with the old way you need to update the theme with every new build(framework) of the rom so since these roms are in constant change at this point i dont think many are spending time theming it. especially froyo.
Honestly I can't speak for everyone but I have to many projects going on and I don't want to release buggy roms to you guys. I have not stopped working but I would love to see 2.3 drop as it would be (hopefully) more stable in general as they had time to get the bugs out.
Look at it like this the more time we have to spend working on battery drivers the less time we have making good roms. LG did not tell even close to the truth as this was supposed to be a true google experience (MY ASS IT IS) so we already had to spend countless hours removing BS they left it from the O2X.
Anyways look for more stuff soon I am sure as currenlty I am working on my rom again and I know of other hidden stuff getting done. (sorry can't say what all it is yet)
Later.

i was gonna do a quick port of my rom for my own use but when i looked at the source code for g2x froyo-- it appears al they did was remove the instruction sets for the overlay of the o2x all that crud is in the framework and elsewhere and just seemed like to much hassle, so waiting for the gb and hopfully a more stable driverset and baseband.

Personally I say the more the merrier as I really do care about the end users. I hope to see more people jump in even if it is only a rom modded by adding removing a few things as everyone has to start somewhere.

more options are good.
my rom was called sourcery so it kinda had to be from source
i am not with the co0developer of that anymore so id have to comeup with another cool name. but still rather do from source than others base , but might use lg gb as a base if they release it.(hopefully without all the o2x crud) or let us make use of it 1 or the other.
but yeah all the initial launch build was is a o2x froyo themed rom.
have you played around with the animated pull down stuff. looks kinda cool and on the g2x it shouldnt hurt performance much. kinda something new.
I would love to see another rom made from source. I have been working on a 2.2 from source but not even close to being release ready as buggier then crap
Anyways I am sure the crack flashers would love another rom to try out
2.2.2

2.2.2 i think is not as stable as 2.2.1 i lost 200 on quandrant with it not sure why but from 2.2.1 same rom same mods.
Over all its ok. i released the 2.2.2 rom 3 days after the source was released. did a serious rebuild from scratch since i was about ready to release the 2.2.1
i remember i had a couple bugs i had to figure out that werent on 2.2.1 but i forget what they were .
you have any questions or need a little help drop me a pm.

@Eagle1967 Just checked your Rom out and I would love to see a port...really slick stuff there...great app inclusions and love the blue/black theme.
I'm wading into this myself...been playing around with it but any kind of release is at least a couple month away...if ever. Really makes me appreciate what you guys do.

when i started i knew nothing. i started in august last year was late september before i actaully got my first build that completed and installed and ran and first release was on christmas so took a long time but i started with no knowlege of any of it. still not always sure what i do to make it work it just does
yeah it took 9 months of my life part of the reason i stopped(part ).. but it was fun and made me feel like i accomplished something. i cant believe how popular the rom still is since i havent really done anything with it since febuary but it was the first custom rom with froyo 2.2.2 and actually was for quite a while until some gave up on gingerbread and went back i think there is still only 1 other 2.2.2 rom for the droid though.
if you have any questions feel free to pm me. ill help you out if i can.

What I know is that LG has their nose to the grindstone trying to get this update out as soon as possible and they won't quit until they are finished and TMO accepts it and sends it out to everyone. To give you an idea of the pace of development happening I received v20t about 2.5 weeks ago and the current version being tested is v21b. The version that was leaked back during the G2x launch was v20c. That's a ton of revisions in a few weeks time!

Assuming LG uses alphabetical designation consecutively, that means there have been 25 revisions since launch, and 8 in the past 2.5 weeks. And they still can't come up with an update they feel is worth releasing.
Seems time to give up on this phone, call it bad hardware or whatever, and move on.
Oh, and I don't want to hear that the update works great, they just want to make it even better. If they could get it stable at all, I have to believe they would be falling all over themselves to get it out to the public, instead of continuing to take this kind of a beating in company image.
I personally think they are fixing the hardware of the phone because it can't be fixed with software updates. That would expalin the re-launch comment. Brace yourselves for the T-Mobile G2x 2.0 in the coming weeks.

Well, I've been patient since launch day... and I am now a member of the X-G2X club. Good luck to the rest of ya'll waiting!
Why do you guys still care about this update? Being on XDA, most of you probably rooted, so why not install CM7 while you're at it? It's very stable and fixes a lot of issues with the device.
Because if we have the official update, the developers here will probably have access to hardware drivers that function in gingerbread, which MIGHT allow us to get functionality of stereo bluetooth and high def video mirroring through hdmi, among other things.

Yea cm7 is great and all but its truly not there fully...a2dp gps and sdcard amongst the most obvious issues.
Really the value of a STABLE gb rom is that a lot of the drivers and system stuff can be moved to a modded ROM. It will be great for all the ROMs when LG gets this out!

I don't know about their revision naming scheme, i.e. what constitutes an increase in revision number. And I don't think you do.
Usually more revision means more bugs fixed and better QA testing.

I was thinking about selling my Vibrant and buying a G2x, but the dev section seems to be pretty dead. Any reason why wasnt this CMs personal phone at one time?
I think part of it is LG's quick memory regarding it. Quick as in quick to forget it, and Nvidia won't release driver source so devs are forced to reuse the 2.3.3 release in order to get 100% functionality.

Does anyone know if they will ever release new drivers? So basically until they do which is most likely never this phone has been as updated as possible? I noticed CM7 is still updating which means 2.3.6 so is there much chance of ICS? Finally who are some good people to follow on twitter for good roms? Thanks a ton guys!
due to overall problems
I believe there were many more developers that planned on developing for the g2x and bought the device to do so as i did.
But with so may problems at the start i just didnt want to even attempt to rom for this device and be blamed when the phone self destructed. after much tampering it is running pretty well but i just dont trust the phone and im sure there are some others that didnt work on the G2X for the same reason. There are some very good options out there and talented people that are working on the G2x. so dont be afraid due to low quanity because there is some high quality work done.
Not sure it will grow much since its been obvious that tmobile and lg's fix for the phone is to shutup until it goes away. But the roms have the phone running pretty well and you wont be disapointed, But i would wait until oct 12th and get the hercules(even without the samsung chip) will be a killer phone or the HTC coming out the same day with similar specs.
This phone works fabulously with CyanogenMod, EXCEPT that bluetooth audio (to a wireless headset or whatever) doesn't work.
Other than that, EVEYRYTHING works. Love this phone.
Well that's disappointing to hear that I probably will never see ICS running on this device. It's a very capable device and the fact that LG refuses to update makes me want to put them in the same category as Viewsonic (unfortunately I also bought the g-tablet).

will be the best hope to get icecream running. if they do so than other rommers will also follow suite. but cm leads the way on drivers and such for most roms. so if they dont do it ussually noone does. But i wouldnt expect to see anything from LG, they have not shown anything in the way of skill or care to put out updates for their devices.
Because there ate stable ROMs out there and you can only do so much. Other lively dev sections ate deceiving - 20 variations of the stock ROM with different wallpapers and start up screens does not mean a lot of development for the phone.

I've been running cm7 for about a month now and I'm really happy with it. Every other rom I try have issues and I always come back to cm7. It makes the g2x a very good phone IMO
There are plenty of devs to follow just some took some time off to dev for other devices ... I follow fitsnugly because he does some great compiling with his roms ... Morfic has some awesome kernals and faux123 has his aosp rom and awesome kernals... doniqq has his eaglesblood roms ... whitehawkx has weapon rom... so there's plenty ... I'm a crackflasher so I'm always running something different .... I felt the same way ..Was thinking of jumping ship to a different phone but I just live this phone... Just look around the forum.. there's always somthing ...
One of the basic things I had to decide on was whether I wanted the LG camera app with an OTA based rom or all the fancy-ness of a CM7 based rom. Now I'm at the point where I just group OTA or CM7 and go from there.

I know what you mean... I use my camera often... Work and personal use and at one point was running cm7 and was comparing the different can apps from the market ... My wife thought I was going nuts , I was sitting in my living room taking pics for like an hour and a half and comparing pics... There are some pretty good free camera apps that I've used with cm7.. vignette is pretty good...

Yup. Work and personal for me too. I tried a few market apps but I just couldn't find something that I was happy with. It was kind of a deal breaker for me considering I really wanted to stick to CM7 for the ridiculous theme/customization options out there.
Swift Star is out, another new ROM. Several out there to try. I prefer those based on 2.3.3 OTA

I was running this rom up until 5 minutes ago... I just reflashed fitsnuglys 9/27 kang... Dont get me wrong the 2.3.3 roms are great... There's just something about the cm7 and the kangs that I like... There's always something new added to them and for me they seem to make my phone run better ... Sure there's no LG camera but there's plenty of camera market apps..
Yeah, I see updates for ROMs pretty often, every 5-10days, that's a good release period, and if you want to use a ROM that is constantly being developed just run CM7, a lot of people say it's not good with battery but if you flash one of morfics kernels you will have great battery life. Some people run into issues with it but if you wipe everything you should be fine. Faux's AOSP Rom+Kernel run great together also.
While development might have slowed down a bit for this phone, there's still plenty of excellent devs and roms to choose from. I have always preferred faux's aosp rom/kernel combo for my daily stable/very reliable/great performing/battery life.
Now if you want to see no development look no further then the mytouch4g slide thread. That's just sad cuz even the og mt4g has tons of devs working on it and its still a great phone.

Hey guys,
I frequent the EVO forums since my current phone is the EVO 3D. My best friend has a Blaze 4G, which I rooted for him about a month ago. I know nothing of current Samsung ROMs and while I could search and read every thread in the Blaze section, I was hoping you guys could save me some time.
General requirements for any ROM to be considered:
1) Must have working camera/camcorder (He has a 7 year old daughter he just got custody of and Dads gonna want to take pictures.)
2) Must be "Stable". My friend is a great guy but not a computer/phone savvy as I am...I don't want his phone to **** the bed while I'm at work, I'd feel like an uber douche.
Please in your responses include any pro's/ con's and why YOU like it...Thanks a ton

I understand completely what you are saying about a rom for your friends Blaze. I would recommend Dark KNight Build 8 and Tweaked ROM. Both are stable and run well. I have been using Dark Knight since the day it hit. No force closes, no random reboots, everything is working fine. Tweaked is also very stable and everything works. Also I would recommend flashing the scorched kernel as well.
Hope this helps
I agree, tweaked and dknight are probably your best options, although I think there is JMT, but I have never tried that.
Let me ask you though. Is there a reason your friend does not want the stock rom? If he's not to tech savvy as you say, if it were my friend I would let him stick with stock, all the roms have there small issues. And although some may not bother me, it may be something your friend would rather not deal with. Having said that, after setting up dknight with the torched kernel and running for quite some time now, I have not had any problems.

He wants something different. From what I've read about the Blaze 4G and its users y'all have the same issue EVO 3D users had with regards to ICS update (We were told Q1 2012...didn't get an official OTA until 7/31). We will hang out, drink some cold beers and he will play with my phone and say "Damn, Chris...I wish my phone would do that" or "Hey Chris...you think you can make my phone do *insert cm9/10 feature here*" So a few weeks ago I went ahead and rooted his phone, he loves that HE is in control of his device...even if he has no idea what it can do. I set up Titanium for him and did a NANDROID backup so that if something went wrong he has a known good flash point. He knows that when in doubt, don't mess with it or call me and we will go through it together. So in fairness to him, he is savvy enough to know not to really mess with it until he more knowledgeable...
Besides all that the man couldn't type until I got him addicted to a MySpace app, I am hoping that once he sees what his device can do with some mods he will take interest the same way and learns to do this for himself...just gotta get him that first hit ya know
