Help Needed - an idea for an app? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I'm finishing a course in Android Development, and I need to make an application as a finalizing exercise.
I'm having trouble getting a good idea, my idea's are too complicated, so i need help.
The app should be made in a 7-10 days, that how complicated it should be.
It should use one of special features of a smartphone: GPS, Sensors, etc'
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
SnapdragonX

A simple game or something that has already been done, but you could improve. Battery stats if it has to be functional for e.g.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App

A game would be too difficult as I have no experience in game programming.
Maybe something for daily use...

maybe something in which people can easily search for things they are interested in, combining information from the web in one easy to use app?

My idea for an app
Hello.
This is my idea for an app. I believe it`s possible to make it.
Imagine that situation: You are on your leave, and your boss or co-workes are calling you for something. Of course you can shut down phone, but i I came up with the idea of f an app which will play message " The number you are trying to reach is currently unavilable" for definied numbers.

Create a app for news, which offcourse will use internet, there all must be regularly updated, quite tough to maintain, but just make it and drop...

[Q] Where to go from here? (programming)

I have been programming with Java for about 6 years now. I am currently getting my masters in college for Computer Science (Programming).
I just finished reading the book Hello, Android by Ed Burnette. It was a pretty good book I must say and got me on my feet towards developing for an Android device. For those who do not know the book, each chapter you gradually build a Sudoku game. In the later chapters it discusses some openGL, sound, video. Overall the game is pointless and a waiste.
I never really liked game programming, I wish to do something such as tools, or a feature. However I have hit a roadblock and do not know where to go from here or what to read. I get the structure of the app, the XML setups, etc but the book did not give me a good enough background on the Android System for what I would like to do.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help in advanced.
Travmanx I think the way to go from here is use your Java experience to assist in unlocking these phones. I know these guys that are doing the hard work would appreciate all the help they can get.

I'm very new to android programming too and I agree there does seem to be a big gap in going from the usual tutorials and guides to really getting your feet wet and digging into proper coding.
I think the key here is to think of a simple idea and start to program it, by choosing something simple you can get the basics working quickly, while still giving you room to experiment further with extra features and improvements later on (where the real learning happens).
As to what idea... that is more difficult, I would suggest you do something which you will use so that you've got a drive to keep working on it and improve it.
i.e. If you travel, then a quick currency converter could be useful...if you play tennis then perhaps a score board...it doesn't matter much as long as the incentive is there to code it.
Look forward to hear what you decide to write!

first of all +10 for ^ meltwater
i did an app to (scoreboard) for a card game, instead of using paper and pen.
then:
i am a Java Developer to,
and recently started doing some android apps
i already have 2 of them in the market...
i am just like you, don't like to do games, i prefer tools and other staff...
however, my point is, whenever you can build an app whatever it is,... all you need now is an idea
try to find an idea and start developing it, and on every problem you face try to dig and fix it, then continue on ur main target... otherwise i don't see any advantage of reading more books, because you have to find something to do, then try to find how to do it (based on your input with 6 years java dev)
otherwise i think you will get lost.
my opinion, find an idea and start with it, then fix every block you face.
Good Luck

Looking for programmer/developer

I'm having trouble finding the right way to locate someone in assisting me with my inquiry... I have an idea for an application, but don't know where to really start. I need to speak to someone who has the brains, patience, and desire to listen. The application would be something that every single employer, company, agency, or individual could benefit from. Anyone willing to contact me via text or email? My name is Jordan.
sorry to break this to you bud, but ideas are like a**holes... everybodys got one.
best way to go about it if you really do believe you have a good idea and are driven to bring it to fruition is to learn to program yourself.

I may get told off by the hardcore devs who know eclipse and java much better than I but if you want to write apps yourself but are new to it you can use a windows program called basic4android which lets you program in a visual basic type language that is very easy to learn and it then compiles it to proper apk file (no interpreter but a proper standalone market ready app).
I started using it last year and was able to code all sorts of apps from games to anti theft ones quite quickly, and it has a great user support forum.
It might be a good option to try as it is easy to learn but very powerful and means you could put your ideas into action yourself

I still need a developer I can talk to so they can tell me whether this kind of app would be possible to create. Is there anyone on here that would be willing to contact me?
Google programming freelance
Google "programming freelance" and you will find lots of freelancing sites, I personally used odesk in the past, I had mixed success, my biggest problem was the heavy Indian accent, some things are just easier to say verbally then in writing, but if I dont understand his accent, this can be a problem

[Q] App building software no coding

Hi,
Looking for software to develop an app (preferably offline) which will help someone with no coding experience. I am proficient with photoshop & after effects but I don't know any coding.
I am sure at some point I'll require a pro to write some custom script for me but I want to get as far into the project on my own as possible.
I don't want to be bound by some websites hosting terms, with monthly fees and all this other stuff. Preferably, I'd build my app offline and go from there...I don't honestly trust these websites with little app builders then your app is stuck on their site and you're forced to use their hosting and things like that....if it's my app, it's my app!!! I shouldn't be bound to some website or whatever.
So, preferably offline app builder which someone with no coding experience can use?

I promise you I've searched extensively and yet to find what I'm looking for. AppsGeyser lifts content from the net and turns it into an app...it remains on the appsgeyser site so doesn't really fit with what I'm looking for...I just want simple app creation software without having to learn code because what I'm looking to do isn't super-unique, it's just for an add-on to my existing business.
Has anyone ever used Wix for website creation for example?? Fantastic user interface, couldn't be simpler yet the possibilities are pretty much endless especially since you can add custom coding if you wish but I've built a few sites with Wix, all function great, all look fantastic...just a shame they don't have the same service for app creation.

It's pretty much just a local directory type app mate....that's why I mentioned above that I am really not trying to do anything unique so I'd imagine there's some nice editing software out there somewhere I could utilise and have my app designed and created pretty quick....like the above example of the Wix website,...you could have a fantastic looking website up and running in a couple of hours.
Anything guys?
Still looking for nice easy app production software.
Buy the Java reference book. Helped me a lot when k was starting out. Its some 1400 pages.
Books helped me the most especially with SQL. Consult me any time if you can't find your answer on Google cause frequently ur gonna be typing code bit have no idea what it does and how it works.
Also use Eclipse. Its like ms word for programmers with auto correct and hints and things that are very useful

Just sounds like thats way more advanced than I'm looking for dude.
I want build an app to ad onto my local directory business and it really isn't doing anything advanced or unique...it's the content that separates it's from other apps, not it's functionality....an app containing a load of menus with click through links (are these called hyperlinks?) to that section of the directory then linked again to open specific entries within that section of the directory....
Surely, there's a nice easy, almost drag and drop, design software out there I can use?
I'm really put off by these app builders I see that are $50 per month or whatever but if I have to go that way, ok. Thoughts? (Appreciate everyone's input and I know it can be frustrating talking to newbies that really don't have a clue so appreciate the input and patience folks!)

I know enough to know that's simply not true...the reason for the post is that there's loads of drag and drop simple app builders out there that require no coding whatsoever....the point in the question is what is the best one and also the embedded question of why are there monthly charges that have such a huge range?
So, no...no code does not = no app.

Eclipse allows drag and drop bit you're dreaming man. There is no way you can make anything work on android when making an app without knowing some basics of code.
So get that book I told you about, get eclipse, and get the book "hello android" which helped me start out.
Android apps are way more complicated than they seem bro
Monthly charges is because to make app building software is so damn hard. Trust me. Try your hand at old school app development. You will learn to appreciate app makers cause no joke its hard as hell

But question is that why any company offer you free tool that helps you to create app without coding knowledge. So only two option is here May be company offer paid tool for that and i think so no as such paid tool available in the market.
2nd option is company offer you online tool where you can create app without the knowledge of tool, in return companies want you to buy their subscription etc... to use that code.
I used some tools for testing person and some of them give you .apk and .ipa file to test your app on device but do not give you source code of app. You can read more about 4 best app building softwares, but as i mentioned that they do not give you source code.
I hope so above mentioned information helps you.
Please don't forget to thumb up button if it is helpful. Thanks
Not long ago, people / businesses in the UK would have to pay at least £12,000 for the development of a simple website, without administration / hosting / commerce functions, etc.
Now, you can produce professional websites yourself with a little cost and effort. Downloading free templates, Adobe Muse, WebPlus X8, etc.
Adobe have now launched DPS (Digital Publishing Solutions) which will eventually become a standalone, offline solution for people that want the ability to create apps on an offline basis, with a one-off cost (no monthly subscriptions).
Without a doubt, such offline app dev software is in development now, and I cannot wait until it arrives.
For now, I use HTML5 based WYSIWYG solutions which work well in good wifi / 4g connection, but with no App Store listing and no ability to push notify, but I can create these without subscription / cloud based resources.
It suits clients that have a user base that would generally be within good connection areas and require their services in such a place.

[APP][7.0+][NOROOT] Loot Finder for CoC

Hello XDA-Developers!
we developed an App for Android that should help playing "Clash of Clans", most of you probably know that Game. Or to specify, it should make playing it more convenient.
What it does is the following:
It checks if the loot of your enemy is as high as you want it to be - if not, it presses the "Next"-Button to find another enemy. This goes on until a suitable enemy is found, you then get notified per Sound and/or Vibration.
Why is this necessary?
Because watching the "clouds", as it is called in the CoC Universe, is really annoying and can take really long. With this, you can put your phone aside and wait until you get notified. And ofc it's quite convenient.
So what is our problem, what is this thread for?
We already released it some month ago, but we have the feeling that something is not working. We use screenshot-functions, OCR,... and it's quite difficult to check for all available devices. We already got some feedback (per E-Mail and here on XDA Labs) that it does not work on specific devices, and we fixed that.
But we do not know how high the number really is where it is not working.
We also tried to message the guys that gave us a "not working" feedback here on XDA Labs, but unfortunately, they did not respond.
To improve ourselves, we would really like to have some more feedback!
We would be really thankful!
Download-Link: https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/at.frikitec.lootfinder
If you need any further information, please just contact us here in this thread, by e-mail or however you like!
Greetings

Hello, thank you for your question!
We (developers) use it since morte than a year, and we didn't hear of any problem of that kind with it from any user.
If you want to be absolutely sure, you could set the Loot to the minimum, so Loot Finder does not press "Next" for you and only operates as an Alarm when an enemy village is found.
Greetings,
your Loot Finder Team
Hi OP, I am a big fan of this app and just wanted to say that this app doesn't work anymore in Android 11. Please update it to work with Android 11 since all Android 10 ROMs are EOL(dead) now for my device and I'm only clinging on to Android 10 just for the sake of this app. Thanks for your great work on making life easy as a CoC player.
