Tried to do the nandroid back-up but only the system, data, cache and md5 got generated.

The thing is - there is a sd card. Tried several times, but still the same.

/sdcard is not an sdcard on the TF. MicroSD cards and USB devices get mounted under /Removable. /mnt/sdcard and its symbolic link at /sdcard are just a way of accessing /data/media in the way that is expected by apps. The Galaxy Nexus does something similar about it.
So arguably if your /data has been backed up then your /sdcard is as well, with regards to the TF101 anyway. The other stuff AFAIK knows how to deal with e.g. the fuse mount on /mnt/sdcard.

As Spidey01 said, /mnt/sdcard is the internal storage of the TF. If it is just a symlink to /data/media then it will be backed up with it in data.img. The script output looks OK. What are you missing? SD-ext is a partition on the physical SD card that is used e.g. by Apps2SD script (not sure if someone ever uses it for the TF) to store apps (allows more capacity for apps that do not enable transfer to SD card). If you're not using such a thing and did not format your sd card that way, the nandroid backup naturally won't back it up.

I don't know what it is and assume you already Googled it. I also don;t have a large enough MicroSD to back up everything yet.

My nandroid does not have the ".android_secure.img 2.06k".
It work just fine, I have done a few nandroid restore and never a problems.

Thank You. Very assuring - did several back-ups earlier and still the same. So why some have, and some don't have. Mystery.
Anyway, time to get dangerous - going for Revolver ROM first.
Thx Spidey01 - noticed you are on Prime ROM - so, you didn't do any backup? You're taking some risk there.
Eh, well that is kind of how I ended up with Prime. When I tried to root with nvflash my display went funky, so in search into how to unbrick my one day old, I ended up flashing Prime v1.4 and kept it, since it was close to stock+optimizztions and that's what I want. In the process of roach's Prime saving my bacon, I gained CWM for backing up; so I didn't have one back then. Can't say that I care much for the ICS style tweaks of later 2.x.y but the tiamat quick controls are good.
It is also very stable and reasonably well maintained (so far), so I'm happy.
When I can get around to getting like an 8gb or 16gb MicroSD, i'll probably do a monthly backup in CWM. I already do use Titanium Backup fwiw. Being my *main* computer, I consider it important, but all the important stuff resides in the cloud or in git repo's.

Hmm, if I'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong), the 'android_secure.img' is the backup of the area, where you can store applications on the sd card (the move-app-to-sd feature that was introduced in Froyo), so if you do not have any apps on sd this way, there would be no backup.
Actually I also do not do a backup with every ROM change or update, but I always have an earlier backup ready to revert to if needed. As Spidey01, I keep most important stuff in the cloud and mostly copy any new documents to my desktop within a few days after I create them. But it is nevertheless a good habit to backup, even more if you also flash using CWM - it's just a few clicks away.

So I just switched from Prime to Revolution ICS. I made a nandroid before I flashed, as well as a full system+data backup in TitaniumBackup, but when I went back to try to restore TB in ICS there was nothing there. Oh, of course, I thought. I should transfer it to the external SD card so I can get at it after I flash. So I go back in and nandroid restore the Prime ROM, but it hangs on the boot screen.
Is this because ClockwordMod 3.2.0.1 skips the internal /sdcard? Did it then get wiped when I flashed to ICS? Because if so, that seems like a major flaw of which I was never warned when flashing that recovery. I tried to extract TB from my nandroid using unyaffs, but I can't find anything useful.
Any idea if I can get my old TB back?
TB works fine. Look in the TB folder on your internal or external card wherever you have it and if files are there then it should be okay.
Did you flash prime kernel when you restored nandroid? Recovery doesn't make back up of kernel so you need to flash one after restoring backup that's why it probably hangs on boot screen.

Dangit, I was hoping to get back to edit my post before somebody noticed my stupid mistake. Forgot to flash a new (old) kernel when I nandroid'ed. I'm flashing up to ICS now to copy a HC kernel to my external SD, so I can nandroid restore the old ROM and kernel together.

Well, I got restored okay... but the TB folder is nowhere to be found. I'm thinking the SuperWipe script cleared my sdcard (internal) since it's basically empty. Good to know if I ever wanted to, you know, not erase all that stuff that CWM nandroid skips. I'm a little perturbed about that, but it's partially my fault for assuming it all worked the same as my Evo. Live and learn.
Well super wipe script does erase the internal card, at least that's what it says. Personally I always change TB backup folder location to external card as soon as I install titanium.

So I spent my weekend playing with some roms, and somewhere in the process something got hosed.
CWM shows my backups.. starts restoring my backups.. then gives me an error about E:..
Trying to recall for sure.. I think it said sd-ext is an unrecognizable format, and wouldn't restore anything.
It would take a new Rom ZIP from the external SD card and install it just fine, just not the backups I had made. I can access the data just fine..
Any suggestions on exactly what the problem is and how to fix it?
Current CWM (5.0.2.0)
Rom Mngr 5.0.0.7
Running Weapon 3.0 ROM

Check your SD card, you should have folder called "clockworkmod" inside find folder "backup". Inside this folder are all rom backups that you made. I think your backups got corrupted. Once you are in the folder try renaming your backups(change the name of the folder) like 2012-02-original or 2012-04-22.MIUI, 2012-04-29.CM7(just samples you can use your own labeling but try to keep same format.) Hope this helps, if not format SD card and start all over again. In the future make sure when you have everything set on your SD card to make a backup to your PC.

that's pretty much all you can do, other then that report exactly what the error said, i assume that these were all on the same recovery, how much space is on your sdcard. Was there an error when the backup finished? What are the files on your Clockwork Mod Folder list the files with on one of your backups...
mine has these folders.
boot img
cache.ext3.tar
data.ext3.tar
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar
any of those in there? my backup is something like 520mb...

Well happened to me before all i did was wipe all data, cache, and dalvik before i restored and it worked for me

Ahh, I just assumed that he would've done this prior to trying to restore, That is probably the issue. I've seen it before, I think on my MyTouch 3G.
When doing a backup in cwm, this is what it says right before completion. What does this mean?
Also, can you not rename ur backups. If you have more than one. How do you tell them apart?

That's normal. If i remember correctly, its a partition inside your internal sd card for your external sd card and it's not mounted in CWM by default.
And you can rename it. Once you back up I'm CWM, boot your phone and go into your sd card. Inside clockworkmod/backups there's folders with date and time as the name, rename it to your hearts content

sd-ext is an ext4 partition on the sdcard in addition to the normal fat32 partition. Just as an fyi, the defacto "standard" for alternative sdcard partitions also includes the ability to have a dedicated swap partition.
I have a proper sd-ext partition and get the same message, so it's likely that CWM isn't set up correctly. Nothing you can do about it unless you want to rebuild CWM
I also believe that partitioning the sdcard through CWM also doesn't work properly.

Everytime i renamed backup. It would never let me restore, if needed too. Due to MD5 checksum error (or something like that)
i googled why it was happening and read changing backup name will cause the issue.
So next backup i made, i didnt rename it, annd restored as expected. kinda sucks would like to no which back up, is which.

that's weird :/ I always rename my backups and it's never gave me that error on all 3 android phones i've had (htc thunderbolt, wildfire s, and the blaze). something like "Current-10/3-preICSkies" and it never hurts. of course, I always copy my backups to windows to store on my hard drive before I rename

correct, phones of yester-year had low memory and storage. people devised ways to make apps2sd prior to froyo and thus an ext partition on the sdcard was born. i didnt include it as any device since the sgs1 has had plenty of space (the samsung galaxy prevail's /data partition was only 140MB's which included things like google maps updates etc)
you can use rom manager to rename backups, but cwm generates an md5 sum off the folder name, in this case a very specific date

Can't you just make a folder name what you would like then put the back up into the folder that has the name you wanted to be able to tell them apart?

I used the tutorial to root and unlock my S3 and I do have SU. I have been flashing ROMs on my Thuderbolt with never an issue. So I thought I knew what I was doing.
After creating a nadroid backup. I wiped my data and cache in CWM 6.0.1.0 I tried to install a Liquid S3 Rom but couldn't find. I then mounted my ext. SD and then I was able to locate it. I then installed the zip and it Soft Bricked my phone. So I followed the procedure to restore it and that worked.
I then tried to find my backup and nothing was there.
I then tried to create a new backup. It said it worked but then when I went right back to restore there was no backup. I then mounted my ext. sd and tired to create a back up. It ran the procedure and then said it couldn't find my card.
I am completely lost... I just want a new rom. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Definitely going to need to Odin to be safe.
What type of SD card is it? 32 or 64 GB? If it is and the default format for the card is ExFat, like most that size are, CWM and TWRP cannot read them. Your card needs to be formatted FAT32 or use the internal SD to flash like I do. ExFat is not supported by any recoveries but the stock.
I just copy backups to SD through a file manager or pc. I never bothered to reformat my card.
If not that. Then make sure to check your md5sum as a mismatch means it won't flash well. Usin GooManager is great as it checks by default for you when the download completes. And if it fails it deletes the failure so you don't use it by mistake

Its a 32GB card. I did reformat the card using through the settings menu. Not sure if that will put it in FAT32 format?
I was just able to backup on my ext SD and it shows a 1970-02-27 date. If I can find my backup does that mean CWM is reading the ext SD now?
I am scared to try and flash again because I haven't been able to find my restore. Last time I backed up to my internal SD and then after going through the PureMotive guide the backup was no longer there. What steps should I take?

That's normal. The no sd-ext happens on this device for some reason, but your backup was made correctly and us on your internal. There is a forum on how to get them on your external here somewhere. Rom manager will not allow it to happen. I've just been using internal and making a copy on my cpu just in case.

If you mount the ext-card I am backup there. Otherwise the default location is the internal card. Seems to be working on both.
First off - You have to format your card to FAT32, you cannot do this on the phone using the settings menu. Use these directions to format your card: How to format card to FAT32
If you would like to know why you are having issues with the SD card backups read this: CWM does not support the exFAT filesystem
Also, in CWM you can specify where to save your backup: Options are internal or ext. SD card.

this! everytime you odin back to stock via puremotive's guide or mine it will wipe the internal sd...so yea thats why your backups are lost. as mentioned above, format your sd to fat 32, then when you navigate to backup/restore in cwm, you will see the option "backup to external sd" . i will notate this in my guide when i get chance!
Having never gotten the rom I was using 100% working I, stupidly, did not set up a full backup. Long story short, things went sour, I can't boot into my rom and I'm hoping I can get some backup help.
What I've done:
Tried everything I can think of to get the rom working
Copied the sd card to my pc
What I would like to do:
Somehow get my installed apps (and hopefully app settings) copied back onto a clean install of the same rom.
There is not enough room to do a nandroid backup 2g free. Is there anything else I can do/can I use the copied sd card as part of a restore?

You can do a nandroid of /data in recovery. But if the problem is in that partition, restoring it will just put you back where you are now.
Does a /data backup do everything I need? I assumed android_secure was required and that's a whole 3 GBs too big.
android_secure is where the apps are stored when you move them to your sdcard. But if you can't back that up, it's academic. /data might save some of your app settings and files.

Because it partitions the storage (stupidly).
If I copy android secure, could I just put it back after a restore, or would that mess with things? Alternately, if there clear files I could delete to make room for the nandroid of android.secure I could do that. Nearly all of my apps are in there, meaning the data backup is a bandaid on a pretty huge cut.
