Best APN Settings for Bell Sensation on AT&T - HTC Sensation

spent the last few hours trying to find the APN settings for the bell sensation to work on the "4G" AT&T network. Tried quite a few and merged some info from the Galaxy S2 xda forum. This is what I have come up with:

I'm getting about 4.5 down and 1.5 up. Prior to using these settings I'd be lucky to get 1 down and .5 up.
I'm on the unlimited 4g plan and living in Phoenix

Hi,
Thanks for what you wrote but are you geting the "H+" or just the "H"?

I'm having the same issue...do you know if it is just the speed?
what is average H+ speed on AT&T supposed to be?
i'm starting to wonder if the stock roms on AT&T just lie about it being faster than H, given some other threads on the atrix/inspire forums.

I just got the bell sensation today...and I'm getting only Edge speeds on my phone
I also have SGS2 and with the same apn settings i get 1.5 - 2Mbps down, but with sensation im getting only 50 - 100 kbps down. Something is wrong, do i need to flash some different baseband or anything else i need to do to get decent speeds on ATT?
EDIT: And I'm on the $15 unlimited data for Non-Smartphones.

I am running 100% stock software, radio, baseband from bell canada on at&t network and achieving pretty good speeds compared to other devices I own.
I could be wrong, as I don't work for at&t, but if you are on the non-smartphone plan I think that will be limiting you to the 2g/edge network only as your account on that line isn't provisioned for 4g data. The plan you are using is for old flip phones like the motorola razor.
When you are using the Galaxy S2 - is that also on the non-smart phone plan? What if you take the sim card from the S2 and put it in the sensation? same results?

Hi,
I was exactely in your situation because Bell settings arent configured for AT&T HSPA, all you have to do is install from the market program called "APN Tweakker" & run it for "AT&T Voice & Data" & you will get the "H" rightaway.

Yes same sim as sgs2 and same non smartphone data plan. It started working fine after sometime I posted the question here so no issues
And also the medianet $15 will not reduce speeds. I have tried the 4G att plan with tweaked APN settings on both sgs2 and sensation, they give me same speeds as the medianet plan.

Does the network indicator on the Sensation distinguish between HSPA and HSPA+, at all?
I'm on TMobile with the Sensation 4G. Of course they changed they "H+" indicator to "4G", since they call HSPA+ 4G. I have never seen the "H" indicator on my device, only "4G", "E", "G" etc.

Don't think so, it only displays H, 3g, E in my case. SGS2 displays only H+, 3g, E. Both cases speeds are same.

Will these settings work for the Bell Incredible S on AT&T?

Stock ROM vs Custom APN

When I got the Inspire, they hadn't put in the IMEI and I got the "H+" with a check mark. They fixed that and the check was replaced by the up/down arrows. I noticed that the APN had virtually no settings:
APN - Phone
MMS Protocol - wap 2.0
MCC - 310
MNC - 410
everything else is "not set"
When I rooted and installed AFR001 and later AFR002, the APN was hard-coded to:
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Port: 8080
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: *
I no longer get an "H+", but simply an "H". I have read conflicting reports that the "4G" connection won't work with the APN settings I have as they're 3G only. So the question is, how do we get the "4G" APN on the phone? If I make a new APN and set the settings manually to what appeared in the stock ROM, I get no data connection whatsoever.
Don't quote me here, but I'm pretty sure the afr001 and afr002 ROMs don't have an H+ icon since they are the European Desire HD ROMs. So you may be getting 4G HSPA+, but it doesn't have an icon for it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I believe the best thing to do now is to just wait for the stock ROM to be rooted. It looks like the Desire HD ROMs are not 4G compatible.
Not compatible, really!? I have no other issues on AFR002 than that. I thought it would be simple

AFR002 is based on the Telus ROM, not the European ROM, however it may not have the H+ icon either, but I'm sure that it can support HDSPA/HUSPA just fine.
I was hoping to find out final clarification on the APN question as well. If I use the 3G APN, will I need a new APN to get 4G speeds. If so, what are the settings for the 4G APN?
Sent from my Inspire using XDA App
I get the same speed results with both of them, wap. cingular and phone settings. The only difference is when I switched to phone I got a message saying "conection failed" but I was able to use data. I'm using AFR001
Ok, thanks for the info. I'm guessing the APN issue is pure speculation @ this point anyway until AT&T's backhaul is complete.
Sent from my Inspire using XDA App
It's unclear. After my imei was updated, I checked the APNs and there are two with lock icons. Maybe if we could check with someone that has real H+ service who could check download speeds with and without the 3G APN.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
+1 I've been playing with APNs all day trying to figure it out. Network info shows HSDPA.
to clean up the APN issue: The APNs with the lock are from ATT with only one or two settings off to control tethering. When you use the custom APN settings you get tethering even on the stock ROM without a special tethering plan.
When I talked to AT&T they told me there is no special Sim card or APN setting for 4G. 4G is a hardware issue, but AT&T has only released 4G speeds in SOME areas, LA and Orange County do not have it yet. The whole network will be up and running by year end. The H+ is just an icon that AT&T put in the ROM, they don't even have the H icon, if you are on 3g or 4g it will still say H+ because this is there way of marking something they don't have yet. Mush like the EVO when it first was released Verizon didn't even have 4g running anywhere but they had commercials all over the place for a product they could not deliver.

Can someone please provide me APN settings that will enable me to send MMS on AT&T network.
everytime i try to send MMS it just fails with a red ! mark on the MMS.
I have tried several At&t APN's but no luck, I am on the EDGE network with the edge data plan and I would like to send MMS.

i was thinking the same thing, after att takes over..probably the new devices will have a wide 3g/4g spectrum, att has alway says that they need the aws from tmbile 1700/2100
Seeing as inzaneip has a Fido (Canada) symbol, I would not be surprised if this "Sensation 4G" is actually the Bell Canada model that works full speed on AT&T.
Another thing it consider is that if you do manage to get the HTC Sensation 4G (Bell/ Canadian Version) that has the 850/1900 Mhz bands, will ATT detect that you are using a smartphone and automatically give you the 30 dollar 2GB limited data plan which you cannot get rid of?
I currently use a Samsung Vibrant on ATT and only have a 15 dollar unlimited data plan. However the Vibrant has 850/2100 Mhz bands in which the 850 mhz is the onle that i use to get data. However, I feel that data fluctuates way too much from location to location. It jumps from edge to 3g to 4g back to edge within a block. Also, there are known reception issues with the Samsung Vibrant (kind of like the death grip on the iphone 4). I am also one of those people considering a HTC Sensation 4G (bell version) or the HTC Incredible S as a substitute IF ATT does not charge me the 30 dollar limited data plan.
Shouldn't happen
I got away with the dumbphone data plan for a long while on my Nexus One until Google gave AT&T the IMEI numbers and they realized I had a smartphone... So as long as AT&T doesn't recognize the IMEI it could be a Motorola V3c with some wicked data usage for all they know!
Do you think ATT will recognize the Bell version of the Sensation because the HSDPA runs on the same bands and I think it was either Bell or Rogers that had some relation with ATT? Not sure if they gave ATT the IMEI numbers though...
The general pattern seems to be:
If your unlocked phone is a model NOT sold by AT&T in the USA, nor is it an iPhone or Nexus, then AT&T won't recognize it as a smartphone.
If it's a model also sold by AT&T, albeit from a Canadian carrier (e.g. a Bell Atrix or Rogers Infuse), there's some chance they might recognize it. The Sensation and the Incredible S are probably safe.
Also the TMo Vibrant has 1900 3G but not 850. It has poorer building penetration than 850, so it's not surprising that the 3G drops out a lot.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
That sounds pretty practical. I'm looking to buy an HTC phone that has both the 3g Bands for ATT. But with that vague merging between T-Mo and AT&T, not sure if it would really matter in the near future.
The merger should not affect compatibility of phones that today already work on AT&T 3G. Be aware the Bell Sensation does *not* have the T-Mobile AWS band if you were thinking you wanted something for both networks at once.
Yea, I'm well aware of that. T-Mobile sucks around my house because I have a big tree in front. I'm only concerned about AT&T but thanks for the warning.

How to know if the phone is in LTE mode?

Hey guys,
When browsing, and it says 4G on the Rogers One X...is that LTE? Mine always says 4G, but NEVER said LTE..any ideas how to find out if it's using LTE?
When I go to phone status, and network status, it shows HSPA or HSPA+...
i believe it says 4G then lte right under it
your probably on hspa+ ?
When on LTE, it will say LTE.
When on HSPA+, it will say 4G.
The Rogers LTE network is still extremely small, so you might not be in a serviced area. You can check their map here: http://www.rogerslte.com/lte-in-your-area

hkalltheway iam having the same issue as you! They actually replaced my device and gave me a new htc one x, switched my sim card twice and have escalated my problem to senior tech support. APN is correct, lte is on auto. I even tried forcing it into lte by going into the phone menu by pressing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting LTE only.
My plan is lte as the last 2 phones i have had were lte (sgs 2 lte & raider). They both never had an issue receiving an lte signal. I'm close to downtown toronto so im in an area where the LTE signal is strong.
I'm wondering if you are having the same issue as me. At least it seems like it. Call rogers and have them open up a case. It has been a week and they still haven't fixed the issue.
did you have an lte phone prior to the one x?

I agree with a few of the others. If you're using LTE, it will actually say LTE in the Notification Bar, right above the signal strength bars.
If it says 4G, then you're only on HSPA+.
If you're not getting the LTE to display, and you ARE in an LTE area, then I would definitely call Rogers and have this issue resolved.
Peter
I'm having a similar issue unfortunately, albeit mine is with Bell. I've unlocked the device and purchased an LTE sim card and in multiple LTE service areas with only 4G connectivity. Speed tests are in the 6-10mb speeds for HSPA.
Curious if this is an issue with the phone as others are having problems too.

I was having the same problem with my Rogers account and it turned out it was an issue with the account not my device. In my case they added the LTE to my account but it is incompatible with older data plans in my case I have the 6GB for $30.00. They have since told me that in order to get the service to work I need to update to an LTE data plan which I really don't want to do as it will cost double what I am paying now hahaha so I think I will live with the 6-10mbps I am getting now

Actually, Rogers routinely comes out with DATA plan deals. I have 10GB for $50, which also comes out every so often. The more common "6GB for $30" is offered frequently.
Yes, it's true that you need not just an LTE SIM card, but to have your account set up for access to their LTE network. I just didn't realize it costs more. It didn't cost me more.
Peter
Addendum: My plan, 10GB data, 200 minutes talk, and unlimited Texts in/out is about $83 per month.

The information I have is there isn't a specific LTE APN similar to Rogers. I'm using pda.bell.ca as my APN. I'm mainly curious if Bell requires a specific LTE data plan or other activation parameters to connect. The people I've spoken to states that this is not required.
If anyone is wondering, I'm on Telus' Flex 60 plan (older plan from before they had LTE) and I did not need to make any changes to my account.
LTE worked off the bat with the standard Telus APN. Although Bell/Telus LTE coverage around here is spotty, I'm just outside their LTE zone on the map.

I bought my HTX One X online, took it to ATT, they had to do a sim card upgrade for $25. I took it home and realized that I was only getting 1G speeds. When you say "One X" do you mean the One XL (AT&T branded) or the international One X. If it is the international, it isn't 4G/LTE Compatible.
Check your Mobile network > Access Point Names
and make sure "ATT LTE" is listed
Also, are you running 1.85 or 2.20?

Yup. APN settings for HSPA and HSPA+ are completely the same. Its the same network. The improvements done to upgrade to HSPA+ don't affect how your phone connects to the network, they are done in the background (fiber optic backhaul). The only thing that determines whether you get HSPA versus HSPA+ is whether the backhaul has been done in your area.

Anything is better than the 1G I'm currently getting..
When I moved from my iPhone 4 to the galaxy nexus I was unable to get HSpa+ , only HSpa. Your plan has to be provisioned for hspa+ or late to use specific apn's. The hspa+ APN is "phone" and lte is "pta".
The imei for the international hox is not going to register as a "4g" phone so they don't have the option of putting you in the right data plan.
I fixed this by searching YouTube for a video of someone showing their imei of a att 4g phone. I called att had them switch my phone imei to that and then they were able to put me on a lte plan. My gnex didn't support lte but the pta apn is faster on hspa+ also. If your still on an unlimited data plan you also have the added bonus of being throttled at 5gbs instead ofn3

The APNs didn't work for me. Are IEMIs not unique per phone? Could you provide me with the correct one?
what does it say in the boot loader? Evita or endeavor, even easier go to settings about and then hardware information what does it say under Processor? Quad core or dual core?

Getting hspa+ on T-Mobile

I unlocked my girlfriends hox and was pleasantly surprised to see the H on my notification bar. Unfortunately hspa+ doesn't take advantage of the Hspa+42 but H+21 but hey no time to complain when I was expecting Edge. The real downside is that H is spotty at best and goes in and out of H and E. Not to mention drive a few miles and I am "living on the Edge"
Anyone else using hox on t-mobile/simple moble getting 3G?

If you're in an area where t-mobile is using the 1900mhz band you'll get hspa.

I get it here in Philadelphia. Shows H+ all day.

You might be able to edit the build.prop to enable HSPA+ 42.
In build prop you will see ro.ril.hsdpa.category=XX According to the spec sheet for the MSM8960 (the chip in the One X), it includes support for Release 9 DC-HSPA+ up to 42.2 megabits. To enable, change the category to 24.
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=24
I'm not sure if it actually works since I don't have a DC-HSPA+ network to try it on, and I don't know if the phone has the right antenna(s), but it's worth a shot. Doesn't seem to be slowing my phone down any.

Speeds aren't so much an issue, the spotty "H+" coverage venture out of my bubble and its all WE. But thank you that is very useful information

Anyone have the settings?
I'm on t-mobile and I just picked up an X but I cna't get HSPA to work, does anyone have the settings? Obviously they do offer HSPA and LTE here in my area so I'm hoping I get this working.
Thanks in advance.
(I have searched and used the nexus 4 setting with no luck)
You could try flashing a new radio. I used to get absolutely no signal at my lease but flashed the 2.40 and now have full edge everywhere out there
