[Q] Google Voice on the Infuse - Samsung Infuse 4G

I am using/attempting to use Google Voice as my voicemail system and I continue to be 'logged out' of the system and keep being forced to Set up Google Voice anytime I reboot.
I can go through the steps for set up fine until I get to Set Up Voicemail. There is a Configure button which I push and am I'm given the selection of using Google Voice or My Carrier. I choose Google Voice and then put in the number for my Google Voice account. Then I get a message that says 'No Changes were made.' I click OK and then I'm taken back to the 'Set up Voicemail' screen.
I have the option to 'Skip', which I have to do to finish the setup. At this point I receive my voicemail notifications until I reboot my phone, then I have to do this process again.
Has anyone else encountered this? Oh and I am on ATT. I am running Infused 1.53, but I originally set this up when I was stock and flashing Infused did not changed anything.

yeah, took me a while to figure out but the app isn't running the mmi code but you can run it manually.
go into voice.google.com or www.google.com/voice click on you're voicemail access number or the phone tab. make you should see you're cell phone number and carrier in there. if not there should be a way to add them. next to the cell number it will say in blue "activate mailbox" or something to that effect. xlixk it and it will give you an mmi code. then from the cell phone type the code into the dialer and hit the call button. you should get a message that conditional call forwarding has been setup. test it by calling yourself feom another phone and rejecting the call. once you leave a message refresh the google.com/voice page and it should now show deactivate mailbox as an option. the app should show a new vm and transcribe it for you.

Did it all from the laptop and had no issues.

Google Voice

I'm running CM 6.1 so I don't have Sprint VMM and I setup Google Voice using my cell number and went through all the steps to activate Google Voice, I then created a greeting but whenever I call my number and let it go to the voicemail all I get is "Could not complete your call, please try again." The phone I am calling my cell with is not broken or anything like that so I know it's something to do with Google Voice. What am I missing?
What color did you want it? I'm having trouble understanding what you are saying here.

What maybe the issue and what was in my case, go to settings call settings and then voice mail number, mine was like *38 but after I put in my number everything fine.

You also need to go to the voice homepage on your pc and activate it there for your phone.

On google.com/voice my phone number is listed under "Mobile" and it says it is activated. My number is also correct in the google voice application on my phone but when I call my phone and let it continually ring, it still acts like I have never setup a voicemail and just says "Could not complete your call, please try again."
Need some more information.
What is your carrier?
You do have Google Voice set up to send all calls to your cell phone, right?
Did you go to voicemail settings in your phone and change your voicemail provider?
Yes it says my voicemail provider is google voice but I think I found the problem. Under Call Settings > Voicemail Settings it says Voicemail Number 9165381466 so I press it to change it and it says "To set up Google Voice as the voicemail provider on your phone you need to enter a special provisioning code." So I dial the code it tells me to dial and everytime I call the provisioning code it connects for 2 seconds then disconnects.
Sprint is my carrier.
And I just want Google Voice to receive the voicemails that people would normally leave on my phone. Basically I just want it to act like Sprint VVM. And I'm running CM6.1 if you're wondering why I just don't use Sprint VVM in the first place. If I can't get voice to work I guess I'll just flash VVM.

I set mine up to work like that. You only have to call the "provisioning code" once. It is just like forwarding, it sets it up to redirect calls to google voice if you don't answer. I have Sprint, also, and loved the VVM, but google voice works great.
I know how to fix this I wrote a post on this about a year ago. Sprint voicemail is terrible. This same thing happened to me and i didnt realize people couldnt leave me voicemails for about 2 months lol. Forget the provisioning code it means nothing after you do this. Listen close because heres what you do....
1. Go to google.com/voice on your computer and at the top right it says settings.
2. Highlight settings then click the drop down arrow and select voice settings.
3. The 1st tab says phone/your google voice number, select that and change your google voicemail number.
4. Once you change it, you have to delete google voice from your phone then reinstall it to finish this. Go thru process as normal when setting it up.
5. Now the final step, go to settings on your phone, then CALL settings then make sure voicemail service is set to GOOGLE VOICE, and right under that theres a tab in CALL settings that says VOICEMAIL SETTINGS. Select that and you will see VOICEMAIL NUMBER, press that once and you will get a pop up box that says a bunch of junk just hit ok and open google voice once and it should be done.

Google Voice Problem

anyone have trouble setting google voice as their primary voicemail?
when i download the app, and go through the initial setup, i sign in with my account, hit "next", select "do not use google voice to make any calls", hit "next", hit "configure", then i select the "google voice" option instead of "my carrier" - and i get an error message that says "call settings error: failed to retrieve and save current forwarding number settings. do you want to switch to the new provider anyway?"
i select "yes", and then i get another error message that says "call settings error: forwarding number change unsuccessful. please contact your carrier if your problem persists".
anyone else run into this issue? even if you haven't run into this issue, any suggestions for how to get around it? i only want to contact my carrier as a last resort, because i doubt at&t is going to know how/care to solve this issue.
any advice would be appreciated - i only want to use google voice for my voicemail! thanks in advance.

The first time I did it it didn't work - after reinstalling going through setup, letting it fail, and then doing the steps, and then rebooting it worked perfectly. So yeah, thanks!
I got it to work but it changed my voice mail greeting. Can I not have the generic AT&T greeting while using google visual voice mail.
could somebody please post the EXACT steps, step by step, of how they got it to work? i.e., when you reboot, when you uninstall/reinstall google voice, whether you set it up through google voice settings or call settings in the general phone settings...
i've tried every permutation of every post on here, and i still can't get it to work for some reason.
edit: turns out that, even though it says there was a failure in the forwarding, it still works... when i call my phone, my google voice mailbox picks up - and when i leave a message, google voice gets that message and gives me an alert... strange. people actually got it to setup where they didn't receive an error? it works, but my voicemail settings in the phone's call settings doesn't say "google voice" - it still says "my carrier".
I don't think he's being clear in his post, I don't think there is way to get it to work through the GV app. Dialing the *004*+1#* changes your voice mail provider on the phone, but doesn't change the dialogue box in the phone options, it will still say "My carrier".
I used the *004* method and my phone forwards to GV and notifies of voicemail just as you described. That's how it should work =)
I pretty much followed his post. I visited the GV settings online, deactivated the phone using the codes they gave me, uninstalled the application. Reinstalled the app, then activated the phone on the site using the codes they gave me and rebooted my phone. To test it I called myself and it went straight to google voice, then upon launching the application it went to the inbox instead of the set up. This worked for me, and I don't think I'm missing any steps.

this is what i needed to hear all along.
i was waiting for the settings to take effect in the call settings (i.e., switch from "my carrier" to "google voice"), but this isn't going to happen on our phone.
however, even though this doesn't happen, google voice still becomes your primary voicemail.

Sorry for not being clear - it still says my carrier - but works with GV... same thing on my phone.
I had the same issue as well.
Mine is now set to "Google Voice" under Voicemail Service. This is even after a reboot but GV voicemails were fine even when set as "My carrier". So not sure why it changed.
I just made sure under Settings -> Call -> Call forwarding that my GV number was set for
"Forward when busy"
"Forward when unanswered"
"Forward when unreachable"
When I select GV as Voicemail Service, it gave me the same error but it stayed. Strange. But GV has always worked for me no matter what it displayed. Long as it was set properly under the "Forward ..." options.

In case people didn't realize the Google Voice setup just sets up forwarding nothing else. Also forwarding is at the line level and not device. So if you take the SIM out and put it in an iphone or anything else it will continue going to Google Voice until you change it manually. Just FYI,

Google Voice stopped working after updating to 4.0.4

when i am receiving a call it goes to my att voicemail instead of gvoice. when i try changing my call voicemail settings to google voice, i get an error that says. could not change could not change your call forward settings. failed to retreive and save current number forwarding settings.
When i bought my hox a few months ago, i had an issue getting google voice to work. after reading the thread on xda i managed to get it working. however, i just noticed that my google voice is no longer working, and i think it stopped working after my phone updated to 4.0.4 when i tried the same instructions that i used in the old xda thread. it didnt work.
edit: gvoice started working again. played with the settings for awhile, not sure what i did to make it work.
I've given up on gv because everytime I flash a rom it screws up gv and I got tired of having to jump through hoops to get it set up again. Sad because I really liked it.

Instead, after you download and install the app, open it, and go through the normal configuration. You'll choose to set Google Voice as the voicemail app, it'll reject it, etc. After it's done, you need to set call forwarding by dialing *004*1-area code-google voice number-#. Then hit call. It'll briefly flash an imei code message, and then say call forwarding successful.
For instance, if my google voice number was 321-456-7890, I would dial *004*13214567890#.
That's it. If you then look in your dialer settings, it's still not going to show google voice as your voicemail app, but it doesn't matter. It will function fine. You don't have to do anything else.
I'm somewhat of a flashoholic, and I do the exact same procedure every time I flash a new rom, and have never had a single problem with google voice, including on 4.0.4 based roms.

I've only done all this once since getting this phone. Ive flashed many ROMs since. All I do when I get a new ROM setup is install voice, allow access, go to call -> settings and set Google voice as voicemail. It will "fail" but my voicemail always redirects to GV.
But excellent advice for those who haven't done this at all.

There's another way to do this. It doesn't change the voicemail number but it does work.
1. Open settings
2. Go to "Call"
3. open "Call forwarding", it will say Reading settings... for a few seconds.
4. Change "Forward when busy", "Forward when unanswered", and "Forward when unreachable" to your OWN google voice number.
5. Ensure that "Always forward" is "Disabled"
6. Profit
That way you're forwarding to google voice even if the voicemail settings are not correct.

Hi guys. So I cant get the AT&T's visual voicemail to work on the CM10 ROMs due to the way audio files are saved and played (still not sure).
I tried to set up Google Voice and when setting up the application after install, I STILL could not get the voicemail forwarding to the Google Voicemail to work.
HOWEVER! I finally got it to work... Thank you useless AT&T customer service.
The problem was that google voice app tries to set your voicemail on the phone app-->press phone settings--> voicemail.
HERE's THE FIX!
Go to phone app --> "press menu" --> "press phone settings" --> press call forwarding
NOW! In call fowarding settings change the numbers of the following to your google number (make sure to insert +1):
a) forward when busy
b) forward when unanswered
b) forward when unreachable

Last time I was on CM10 and AOKP, it was as simple as setting it up as changing the Voicemail settings.

This finally worked, however not the first time, I had to get a new google voice number and I DID NOT "activate google voicemail on this phone" in the settings. When I pressed the "activate google voicemail" I was getting error messages when I would try and test it.
This is working atleast for me after days of trying.

Got Visual Voicemail to work
Hi all, I actually had the SKY ICS rom installed and I backed up the app and data using rom toolbox and it worked.
Interesting, I'll check those settings.
However, I've never gotten the Google Voice app to set up voicemail correctly even on stock ROMs. The solution has been to leave it set to "carrier" and then follow the instructions on the Google Voice WEBSITE.
The instructions are carrier specific, so for AT&T:
Open the phone app.
Enter the following exactly as written, as if you are dialing someone:
*004*15559991234# (with "5559991234" being your GV number.)
Press "Send" or "Call" on your phone to dial that number. When you see the confirmation message on your phone, you are done!
This changes the forwarding settings on the Carrier's end.
AT&T VVM never worked on CM9 for me but on CM10, I've had zero problems even when everything else is FUBAR.

I tried all the tricks google said and att said to do. this is the only way for me to have google voice as my voice mail.
I've noticed when setting up Google voice with its built-in setup, you have to switch the tick in voicemail settings to Google voice, then hit the back button til you get back to Google voice app, DO NOT press the configure button in voicemail settings, you must back up til the screen swaps back to Google voice, then it will automatically start the configuration process, and setup is complete. Let me know if this works for you (it took me a while to find it out, found it on some random thread somewhere)

I tried this, but I kept getting error. The in app setup of the voice mail will not work unless you're really lucky. What my method does is that it changes the fowarding number in the SIM I believe. That's why now, if you flash new ROM on top of the previous, the fowarding number will still remain. I found my method to work every single time.

FWIW:
OK this an ATT thread, but this fix works on T-Mobile as well. In fact, it should work on any CM10 phone, because all it's doing is setting the same things that Voice would be doing were it not wonky.
I'm pretty sure your carrier can manually set these numbers on their end, too. But as I just found out tonight, you'll have a hell of a time getting Tier 1 tech support to even understand the most basic premise involved. However, I have, in the last year, had TMO successfully set this number as the transfer/voicemail default.
Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, I thought there was a USSD code you could enter from the keypad that would set this transfer number, too.

Can't set Google Voice as Voicemail?

In phone settings, under voicemail provider, the only option I have is Voice Mail, there's no Google Voice option like they're used to be. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google Voice, went through setup, still no option under voicemail provider. All voicemails open with the standard phone app and it dials into voicemail...

The stock Samsung dialer will never show Google Voice voicemails. You still have to either use the Google Voice app for that, or the Google Dialer. Set it up with conditional call forwarding with your carrier and you'll be set.

It has shown in the stock dialer in the past. I think maybe the new Google Voice update broke something? Because after going through proper setup after reinstalling Voice, I can't get it to work at all. Stock phone app notifies me of voicemails, clicking that takes me to my dialer where I have to call in to check voicemails, and that sucks... How do you set up conditional call forwarding, within the Voice app? I've never had to do that before, and I've been using Voice since the beginning.
Again, to be clear, I'm not looking for Google voicemails in the stock dialer, like in hangouts. Open phone app, more, settings, scroll down to Voicemail - Service Provider. Normally, Google Voice is listed there as an option (instead of using your stock voicemail, you can select to use Google Voice for voicemail). This is what's missing. So every time I get a voicemail, it goes to the one where you have to DIAL into your voicemail! No voicemails go to Google Voice.
OK, I will repeat, because I must not have explained it properly:
You must set up conditional call forwarding. This is step #1, and it absolutely must be done.
Your carrier: T-Mobile Change carrier
Note: This feature does not work with T-Mobile prepaid phone plans.
Follow these steps to have your mobile phone use Google Voice for voicemail instead of your carrier's voicemail. You can always go back to using your carrier's voicemail later if you want, by entering another code. Learn more here.

I appreciate the help, I'll do this later today when I have a chance. I will say, though, that these steps are ABSOLUTELY not necessary for my T-Mobile Galaxy S7 Edge. For some reason, my fiance's regular S7 won't use Google Voice. So again, I'll try these steps later for her, thanks!

Don't forget the pound sign after your phone number. This method did work for my fiance's S7. I never had to go through all this with my S7 Edge, though.
I have the same problem. I tried the code above and get this error:
Call forwarding
Connection Problem or invalid MMI code.
I had the same issue. Noticed recently I wasn't getting my Google Voice voicemails when my phone started telling me to install Verizon's visual voicemail to view my voicemails. Setting Google Voice also wasn't an option all of a sudden in the phone app, as it had been for years. I also noticed when I opened the new Voice app on my phone, it promoted me to pick a new Voice number, so the recent updates must have broken something.
Anyways, this is how I fixed it.
1) On a PC, go to voice.google.com (log in, if you aren't already)
2) Hit the menu button, scroll down, and select 'Legacy Google Voice' (should open in a new window)
3) In the new window, you should see your Voice number and then your cell number below that
4) You should see a link that says 'Activate Google voicemail on this phone'. Click that.
5) A box will open telling you to dial and call *71(Your Google Voice number)
6) You should be good to go, I placed a test call and it worked like it always had before except for an a couple extra rings before voicemail kicked in.
I also did the following to get it to go straight to voicemail after the normal number of rings...
Under your cell number, hit 'Edit' > 'Show Advanced Settings' > 'Forwarding Options' > Select 'Go straight to voicemail' > 'Save'
YMMV but I hope this helps someone. It certainly had me stumped for a couple days lol.
Call forwarding
I have a new SM j32 7T1 and it won't let me set call forwarding to anything but the pre-programmed MetroPCS voicemail everytime I put in my other phone number which I have two phones it says there's a network error which I don't think is an error I think it's the software will not allow me to put in a different number
Yeah, I got that "Connection Problem or invalid MMI code" code too after typing in the **004... code. However, I was able to successfully set up forwarding to my Google Voice by following the second step of instructions given. (Note: I recently bought this Galaxy S7 unlocked, previously T-Mobile carrier and need to set Google Voice as my voicemail - it was all set up on my previous phone, so I've done everything in Google Voice to set it up, and I had to of course install Google Voice on my new phone). Anyway, here's the instructions for setting up Google Voice as my voicemail on Galaxy S7:
(1) Tap phone icon to open phone app
(2) Tap 3-dot menu upper right corner
(3) Select: Settings
(4) Under CALL SETTINGS section select: More Settings
(5) Select: Call forwarding
(6) As the other person's instructions stated: leave the "Always forward" setting turned off, but tap the other 3 settings ("Forward when busy", etc.) and enter your Google number. Voila, all calls that you don't answer, for whatever reason, will go to your Google Voice where the caller will record a message, and you'll receive it via your Google Voice app.
