ASUS Transformer Root ToolKit V7.1 Universal (Windows) | 2011-09-22 - Eee Pad Transformer Android Development

New tool for rooting all eee Pad versions. Get it here: Asus Transformer Root ToolKit V8.0
Universal root toolkit v7.1
Hi all. Universal root toolkit v7.1 is now available. This is a upgraded version of my old v6 script. It is now universal and it creates the modified boot image and the CWM Recovery image with your own stock images. This is like the Universal script from Rebound821 but ported to Windows and with a GUI (graphic user interface) and some more tools. After several beta versions, at last the v7.1 final version is available.

This method still doesn't work for B70 revision Pads
Note: some users have reported that with this script they have successfully root their pad. It seems that some B70 rev. pads don't have the new bootloader
What you can do with this tool:
- Root your pad in a simple way
- Backup boot, stock (and system)
- Restore backup
- Flash custom rom (in NVflash flavor)
Screen shots:
What you need:
- Asus Transformer Eee Pad with Asus USB cable
- Asus sync and drivers installed in windows
- Know how to get to APX mode
- Know how to turn USB Development on (in android)
- Install built-in nvidia drivers
- Read the instructions
- Know what you are doing.
- dot.net framework 4.0 (download from microsoft)
NOTE: I still need your help to get this program better. I tested the program myself with my pad and it worked fine., but if it doesn't work for you don't just say it doesn't work! Please make a print screen of the error, and send it to me, with a description of what happened and pad version. Only this way I can check if there are still errors in the program.
Thanks.
After installing CWM with this tool, please go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213723 and update CWM recovery to last version available.

Hi all,
This started has a front-end for the "Pure Root" method original from Mashi, and has grown to something more than that. I've to say thanks for all the other members that have help me with this, because this has become a community script, I'm only one part of the gear that "makes the world turn". Thanks to you all.
Why "unsecure"? Because this method changes a security flag in the boot image that allows to push superuser binary, superuser.apk and busybox through ADB. I call it "unsecure" instead of "insecure" because this method doesn't turn you pad to a insecure pad, only opens a window to make superuser available.
For history purposes:
I've created a batch script, using mashi "Pure Root" original scripts and implemented some others, that makes rooting transformer more user friendly.
I added some other functionalities, like backing up current (or stock) boot and recovery, and also scripts for install busybox, install stock boot or(unroot) and stock recovery (you need this for install OTA updates).
Original 8.4.4.11 Root Boot images are mashi work, so thank him for is work. Thanks Gee One for HC3.2 US unsecure boot.img and for the explaining on how to unsecure images. Thanks rebound821 for your great script that makes it very simple. Thanks Rayman for the BlobTools and the BootTools.
Disclaimer:
As is usual, use this at your own risk. You can open the script to see what it does (there are no tricks here). If you find a bug please report it.
If your pc OS is Linux you can root with this script: Universal root for stock firmware. It makes everything very very very simple
Please read FAQ before trying to root your pad. Please read the menu from top to bottom before trying to do anything. This script has worked for many people, if it doesn't work for you it's because you have made an error in the process. Read FAQ again and start from beginning.
Unzip the file and double click "Brk.RootKit.bat" file and follow the menus.
Read About/FAQ option in menu for instructions.
Notice that you still have to install APX driver (driver folder included) and ADB need to be able to communicate with your pad.
To install APX driver:
1- turn off your pad
2- Connect pad to computer (windows)
3- Press Volume UP + Power Button at same time
4- Windows should pop a sound like it found a new hardware
4.1. Pad screen will stay off/black
4.2. Find the icon of "searching for driver" in windows
4.3. Click in the option to make windows stop looking for driver.
5. In control panel open system>Hardware devices
5.1. Find a yellow icon with exclamation mark saying APX
5.2. right mouse click and choose Update driver
5.3. in wizard select to find yourself the driver
5.4. Point driver update to usbpcdriver in rootkit folder
5.5. let windows intall apx driver
6. Continue with batch script

OLD version
For HC3.1 and HC3.2 beta
V5 beta 6 update:
For people having rooted 8.4.4.11, it's easy to flash Roach's 8.6.5.6 US or 8.6.5.6 WW CWM zip update (I recommend this!).
If you have a rooted 8.4.4.11 with CWM Recovery pad and you insist on using this method to update your pad, to make OTA update install you only have to restore stock Recovery, you don't have to restore stock boot. After that you can install OTA upgrade and then you can root again with this method

Thank you for the script, it works with my ww Version.
But i have problems with de recovery. I can not boot into recovery. I have always a normal rebbot when i try to boot in recovery.
I have flash back to Stock Recovery. When i try to boot into recovery, it shows a green Android with a yellow exclamation mark in the middle.
What can i do?

Does this address the "issue" of people not being able to install clockwork? Also, is the us image included here already? (i know it wasnt when you posted it in the pure root thread)
I was close to attempting to root my TF (latest update 4.11) but read a lot of people having issues not being able to install clockwork
Thanks

There was a bug in the script that was not flashing CWM. I think now is ok.
If it still doesn't work, please try the recovery.img from my last post.

I think it does that, if you flash stock boot and stock recovery, I guess your pad will be unrooted and with stock recovery. You just have to uninstall superuser.apk

If I flash the stock boot and stock recovery, wouldn't it wipe your data? I am hoping the unroot script will not wipe the data... I think the "one click root/unroot" for Samsung Captivate doesn't wipe my data... It will be great if someone will create a similar script to do the same for Transformer...

It doesn't wipe data, it only writes back boot block (includes boot and kernel). Data isn't touched.

Nice work! being a droid noob this helps a lot!. The FAQ's are outdated

Um the 3rd script "install clockwork" just sits there..Nothing happens. NV flash Started and curser just blinks...Which ultimately sent my tablet into bootloop 'us pad'

This problem is solved in v4. I'll upload it in a couple of hours.

Just to ask, will this method works with the new firmware, 8.4.4.11?

Root the ASUS TF300T tablet without unlocking the bootloader, great!

Hi,
I've found the following link about rooting the TF300T:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588 ,
but I got a question, though. It looks the script needs to be installed on a Win PC, but how is the connection and setup procedure on the side of the TF300T tablet?? I am new in the Android world, so I'm not all to sure about things.
Oh, btw I forgot, I got JB 4.1.1
The method you just posted is for ICS users only. If you are on JB, you cannot successfully use it, and you must unlock your bootloader to get root.

My TF300T is already unlocked, it even shows at boot time a message saying it is unlocked.
So, would the procedure in the link in my previous message work?
If you think it would work, then what procedures and settings should I fix and follow on the side of the TF300T?

The first post in previous link has two attached ZIP packages from which one is the package with the drivers, called:
ASUS Android USB Drivers.zip - [Click for QR Code] (8.28 MB, 25376 views)
I've downloaded and extracted it on my Win7 64bit PC, but I cannot install them, there isn't any installer to install the drivers. All there is are *.inf files and when I right-click them and then click install, I get an error message.
So, could anybody tell me how to install the drivers in Win7?
Hope sparkym3 is reading this.

Tried it out but got stuck at the Win7 cmd command:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery tf300t-jb.blob
I got an error message at that command saying cannot load tf300t-jb.blob , and indeed tf300t-jb.blob is nowhere to be found in the downloaded folders Fastboot+recovery and Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed on my Win7 PC. However in folder Fastboot+recovery/Fastboot there are the files twrp.blob, but I don't dear to run it. I figured I'll ask first where the tf300t-jb.blob has gone to? Maybe krabappel2548 could shed some light on the issue, if anyone can contact him/her.

As a newbie I'm not all too sure, so I got another question. At instruction number 7, it says:
7) Copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed to the internal storage of your tablet. then reboot into the bootloader again.
So I assume Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed must be a FOLDER, not a file? And where exactly should I copy that folder? In the root of my Asus JB tablet alongside the other folder like Android, .frb, Download, Music, Pictures, DCIM, .MoVend,... Or should I copy the folder Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed somewhere deeper into some other folder on the tablet?
I got a SuperSU error message saying:
"There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it.
This is a problem!"
The point is that I don't really know how to install onto my JB Asus tablet the folder Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed. Could anyone explain, step-by-step, how to install the folder once I've booted into RCK on the tablet?
Thanks in advance
Ok, here is Part 3 from the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30516010&postcount=1
== Part 3 BEGINNING - Install recovery and rooting ==
Let's start with installing the recovery
1) Download these 2 files:
- Jellybean recovery with fastboot files: Fastboot files + JB recovery
- Root files: Root Files
- You can also download the new CWM Touch recovery if you don't like TWRP: CWM Touch recovery thread
2) Extract the recovery with fastboot files zip and open a command prompt in the same folder of the adb and fastboot files (Shift + Right mouse)
3) Reboot into the bootloader of your tablet, type: adb reboot bootloader
4) When your tablet has reached the bootloader navigate with volume down to the usb icon and press volume up to confirm.
5) To flash the recovery type:
- TWRP: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery tf300t-jb.blob
- CWM: fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery CWM-Touch.blob
6) A blue bar will appear and the recovery will be installed, when the blue bar is filled press volume up + power button to reboot into the tablet.
Now we will root the tablet
7) Copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed to the internal storage of your tablet. then reboot into the bootloader again.
8) This time you need to select the RCK icon with volume up to enter the recovery image.
9) In recovery flash Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed and reboot into the system
10) Install Supersu from Google Play
11) Open up Supersu, it will ask you to update the binary, choose yes.
12) Now your tablet should be rooted
== Part 3 END - Install recovery and rooting ==
So, I copied the folder Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed in the root directory of my tablet along side the folder TWRP.
I managed to boot into TWRP and got the screen

}
Then I pushed the button REBOOT followed by the button SYSTEM.
Then I followed 10), 11), en 12) but my tablet does not go into root and SuperSU gives me the error in previous post. Also Superuser app does not work.
I'm not sure about if I have flashed the folder Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed properly.
Can anyhow give me some instructions how to continue from 7) onwards.
Go back into twrp recovery, and tap install, then select the superuser zip file you have on. Your internal storage.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
I just did that. Selected Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed, which is btw a folder and not a ZIP file, and then pushed install button (very top-right on the tablet screen, looks like a square-like button), and then I got the message "Updating partition details..." which just keeps on being there with no movement nor any progress whatsoever. So what's up with my tablet???
After I tapped Install in the twrp menu, I got two panes. The left pane shows the 2 subfolders of Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed, and the pane on the right shows /sdcard/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed at the top but the right pane itself is empty. At the very top in twrp it says Select Zip to Install. However, I do not have any ZIP. I only have the folder Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed with 2 subfolders called META-INF and system. So how should I proceed from here?
PS It is after midnight, so I am off. CU later.
The folders you just mentioned are the contents of the original superuser zip. Download the zip file from the guide, put the zip on the sdcard folder, and try twrp again. Twrp installs zip files.

It works!!!! Million times thanks to funnel71. The instructions in the link you've provided me earlier (see also my post #10) are a bit misleading. In 7) its says
"7) Copy Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed to the internal storage of your tablet. then reboot into the bootloader again."
But in stead of Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed (which is a folder) it should be Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.ZIP, which is a file. I got mislead and thought I had to unpack the zip file and them transfer the folders.
Now I got another problem. The reason why I needed root was for running Undelete/Recover Apps, and those I tested don't work. So I'll be opening a new thread soon.

Do you connect your Android device to your Windows PC using a data cable? That is not the case with me, my tablet is connect to my PC using the POWER cable. The power cable is plugged into the tablet and the other side of my power cable has a normal Standaard USB (2.0) Type A connector, which goes into the wall plug adapter. The power channel/port of my tablet can also carry data from and too the internal SDcard of the tablet.
I'm not sure but probably your Android device should be able to get connected to you Windows PC the same way as with my tablet.
Data and power ?
Only one cable for data (pc to device) and power(charger to device)
What do you smoke?

[FASTBOOT][RECOVERY] omap4boot for P940

omap4boot for P940 (Prada 3.0)
This is a modified version of the omap4boot work done by wkpark (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971014).
This version is designed especially for the P940 to allow fastboot access. A (signed) Clockworkmod recovery is included. This allows you to easily root the device from the recovery and/or flash custom roms.
No need for installing any LG driver/tool crap for rooting.
Furthermore this version works for both Windows and Linux (drivers for Windows included).
Download builds
How this works
Download and extract omap4boot-for_prada.tar.gz
(Windows only) Pull the battery and attach an usb cable to your device. In device manager an OMAP4430 device will show up briefly. Hurry up and right-click > update driver software and install the drivers from the usb_drv_windows directory included in the archive.
Execute start_fastboot.bat (Windows) or start_fastboot.sh (Linux)
Follow the instructions shown.
(optional) Boot into recovery by holding CAMERA + VOLUME DOWN + POWER and do stuff: root your installed rom via a special update.zip tailored for the p940 (http://milaq.net/downloads/android/p940/p940_root_stock_su3.1.3.zip), install a custom rom, etc.
Celebrate

Is it normal that there are no files in "usb_drv_windows\amd64\" directory?
Is it normal that omap device appears only for few(1-2) seconds and then disappear? or this is my device problem, maybe to small power from usb port?

yes, that's normal. you have to be very quick. but once they're installed there is no need to do it again.
or just use linux, no driver installation required there.

Hi, I have a bit of trouble with P940, could you please help me XDA?
I can connect when I start-fastboot.bat, however when I choose that I want to install custom recovery, the script hangs on waiting for device.
Prada shows fastboot v 0.5. I tried all the circusy things with drivers, now I am using fresh WIN7x64 install and with cables. Any help? (I have fresh V20D, but also ADB is not working - it stops on device (num) offline.)
you probably need to install fastboot drivers. use the generic ones from the android-sdk.
if you are booted into fastboot and are connected via usb your device should show up in the device manager as "lg p2 device" or such

after 42 reboot it cought up and installed recovery! Thanks a lot. Now just realize root through cwm...
Maybe a stupid question. Can I use this way to root an stock 4.04 p940 and have then root rights and cwm? And is cwm then always accessible via the phone key combination on the phone to flash your custom roms, make nandroids...
I'm familiar with S1 and S2 but the P940 sounds always way more complicated for me and it is my daughters phone. She will kill me if I would damage it Actually she has often trouble with no network and with SMS so I thought this wat to root and got cwm + using milaq's 10.1 ROM could be a good solution. I also need to know if the Prada look and feel will stay in 10.1 then.

yip, this will enable you to flash an - already included - recovery. you can then root the installed stock rom via the generic superuser package quoted in OP or flash custom roms, etc.

if you keep to the description and only flash the recovery and leave all other partitions alone, you are safe to do so. but be sure you have read everyting in the OP and are aware of any potential risk, although the p940 is practically unbrickable (if you dont do anything real fuzzy).

better off in the respective thread but nevertheless: you wont have the prada ui but stock aosp resp. cm flavour. but you can use the inbuilt theme function to make it look like the prada ui (black/white).

Dear Milaq,
After backed-up and restore, I saw clockworkmod work incorrect, because Prada has 2 partition involve system
_for mounting at /system
_for moutong at /system/app
Clockworkmod defaut mount 1 partition at /system, it doesnt mount partition at /system/app. So, backup will not work properly when I restore.
Please fix it

Just a tip I forget to share. While flashing on win7 64bit I stuck in the fast boot screen. As solution I open the device manager again and let the device reload the driver. Once this was done the process immediately continue until the end with no more problems.

Installed stock ICS V20D, then CWM via fastboot with no problems but rooting (installing a flashable zip with su, busybox and superuser.apk) does not seem to work...
Looks like a custom bootloader might be needed....
Therefore the walhalla method included some patched bin (a piece of ROM)
because lg decided to have a system2 partition mounted to /system/app.
su package installed just fine but the superuser.apk doesnt get used because of the mounts. try "su" in a shell and you will see that rooting went just fine. you can then manually push superuser.apk to /system/app

Does manually mean copy/paste with root browser, using adb/ fastboot command ??
Root checker says I'm rooted but some apps like Root Browser and Root App Delete say I do not have a proper root access
Maybe it's sth to do with permissions ? Also I noticed busybox is missing ..
I used Superuser by Koush flashable .zip

Well, for me root access worked fine after
1. flashing the rooting update.zip, which was posted by milaq in the first post and
2. flashing the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip (http://androidsu.com/superuser/)
So maybe something of these two zips is unnecessary, but at least it is simple and should work
i just wanna ask,, will this work to stock gingerbread? or should i update first to icecreamsandwich?

Introduction
When creating this thread i never expected that this topic would be this huge, let alone become a community place for fellow phone users to help each other and even create new improvements to our phone. Now as of 20 oktober i decided to make a rehaul of the guide and i hope it will make it even easier to understand and follow for newcomers.
I want to remind people that i am not responsible for any damage that might be caused using these methods, so use this at your own risk! ! Also know that by rooting your device your warranty is void. Since i am not the one who created this method, i want to give my special thanks to Mihalyh2 from the 4pda.ru forum. All i do is created a simple guide to root the phone and share this to fellow users.

Installing CWM
Rooting your phone
Before we start to root your device, we need to make sure you are downloading the correct files. In order to do this you need to know what version of android you running. To do this is by starting your phone and follow the following steps.
1. Start your phone
2, Go to settings
3. Look for the option: About phone (should be the last option below)
4. Look for the firmware and check what version you have. You either have 4.0.x (also called ICS) or 4.1.1 (Jellybean)
Once you done that you are ready to start the guide. Below you will fine the necessary files.

Installation Part One (ICS)
Install The Alcatel one touch manager and upgrade (preferable on the default path)
Extract the ROOT ICS Android 4.0.x.rar to C:\ONE TOUCH Upgrade S 2.8.0
Start your phone and make sure you enabled debugging via USB.
Turn off the phone
Restart your phone in to factory mode. You can do this by pressing the Volume button (-) and the power button at the same time.
If done correctly, the phone should start and show a black screen with on top the word Factory mode. If not then restart your phone or pull out the battery.
Connect your phone by using the USB cable, wait until Windows stopped searching for a driver (in my case it did not install the driver)
Go to the ROOT ICS Android 4.0.x Folder, in my case it was at the following location: C:\ONE TOUCH Upgrade S 2.8.0\ROOT ICS Android 4.0.x
Press shift and right click within the map, there should be a option called: Open Command Window Here. Click on it.
It should now have opened the Command Window with the following line: C:\ONE TOUCH Upgrade S 2.8.0\ROOT ICS Android 4.0.x> Leave this as it is.
Now go back to the folder ROOT ICS Android 4.0.x, and start the application called Install Root. This should start a command inside the Command Window, don't be afraid of the Russian words. Now it should restart your phone 3 times without any error.
See the following Screenshot: http://imgur.com/Wcs1HHP
Download Root checker from the Play Store, once installed you start the application and press Verify Root access. If done correctly you should see the following message. Congratulations! This device has root access
Click to collapse
Installation Part Two (ICS)
Extract the files and install SP Flashtool and the MTKdroid application (prefferable on the same path)
Download the Entire folder from the mega link (MTK Backup)
Put this folder in the MtkDroidTools\backups.
Replace the default boot.img with the patched one. (make a backup of the old boot.img), rename the patched one to Boot.img.
Start the Flash tool
Press the button at the right called "Scatter-Loading"
Go to that folder and look for the file called "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc" And press open.
You will be returned to the Flash program, you might wanna extend the size of the application so you can see all the files that are loaded.(like Preloader/DSP_BL/MBR up till ANDROID)
Now uncheck all those boxes, so dont forget the ANDROID one.
Check BOOTIMG and click on BOOTIMG, it should open another windows where you have to choose your boot.img. Now choose the new boot.img that you put in the backup folder..
Once you done that, go do download and press yes on the upcoming error. Shut your phone off and connect your phone with USB to the phone. Now it should turn red to yellow and should copy the recovery to the phone. At the end you should see a green ring. (you might need to put out the battery and back in again to let it be recongized)
Restart your phone (might need to pull out of the battery to start it) and keep your phone connected to your pc.
Now we are going to check if the installation worked by doing the following things, Go to your MtkDroidTools folder and open the "adb" folder. Inside the folder, press the following combination (Shift + Right click), it should bring up the following option "Open command window here". Press this option.
You should now have started a command window in which you are able to type commands (in this case for ADB). Now the only thing you want to do is type the following command "adb devices" and press enter. You should see the following answer: http://imgur.com/NsTiCVv (There should be a device attached now)
Second way of knowing if the installation has is by doing following this guide: Right-click "My Computer" on your PC, click "Manage", click "Device Manager". If the ADB driver is installed properly, and if you enabled "Debugging Mode", it will be listed under "ADB interface" or "Android USB Device". http://imgur.com/pdQR3gG

Step 1. Shut down the phone.

Step 3. Choose your device and just follow the applications instructions.
Step 4. The download and install time will take around 20/30 minutes. If for some reason the application crashes (mostly this will happen at the 100 % mark) .. then disable your firewall and anti-virus and maybe try a different USB port.
To see if it worked:
1. Download root checker once again and it should tell you the device is not rooted.
2. Shut down the phone and press the power and the volume button (+) at the same time. It should show you something else then CWM (it should be yellow and telling you the following message: "Android System recovery <3e>

Thanks, rooting worked for as well. But I have another question. My 5035D is Android 4.0.4. Anyone already found a way of upgrading it to 4.1? Both OTA and One Touch Upgrade don't deliver that (yet). And is there is no custom ROM yet....

So far no idea.It seems the upgrade to jelly bean is localised to certain countries. For example the Philippines have jelly bean on their phone. (not sure if it's pre installed on the phone or by upgrade?)
That's why I was hoping by unlocking root and Cwm and linking to the Alcatel source code someone would be able to create a rom or start with something along the line.
Ps: I requested on the cyanogenmod forum for a port. You might want to vote yes. This does not mean they will create one but at least we are heard.

What I understand is that Alcatel first released the phone with 4.0.4 but the next shipmemt was 4.1. The latter phones get updated but the first released phones not yet (see mail Alcatel)
mail from Alcatel customer service:
Dear ,
We have One touch X’POP shippment with Android 4.0 at the very begining, then we begin the shippment with Android 4.1. If your phone can't be upgraded to Android 4.1 with OTU, then it doesn't support it at the moment but maybe later.
We sincerely apologize the inconvenience!
Should you have another request, do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for choosing Alcatel!

Well let's just hope they will be releasing that upgrade soon. Thanks for the email though, didnt knew it had something to do with shipments.
Update #1
Just a small update for the guide:
28 May 2013
- CWM Thread: Added an alternative method for installing CWM (by using my recovery, should be easier and faster)
- Progression Thread: New tweaks and tips will be added for the future (now includes a way to increase the audio for your headphone)
To the people that responsed so far, when possible could you test my recovery method to see if this works?
Thanks!

[Q] Noob needs help installing KatKiss ROM

Hi there!
I am a super noob in installing custom ROMs and desperately need some help!
I have an Asus Transformer tf101 (duh), I don't have the keyboard dock. I want to install the KKKK ROM, but I have no idea how to. I know I have to wipe, boot rom, flash kernel and reboot, but I really have no idea how to. I do not have an SD card (and I don't think my tablet can take one), but there is a folder on the tablet somewhere called sdcard. So... Can you help me? I have searched through the forums but I am not sure if descriptions for other devices go for mine as well...
Concluding: I have the TF101 without the keyboard dock. It runs stock android (updated as far as I could, just checked it: Android 4.0.3). And I want to run KatKiss' KitKat ROM.
Can you help this noob installing a ROM (and not bricking the device?)? It would be very much appreciated!
Michelle
Plug the tablet into the PC > USB
Turn off your tablet
Put the Tablet into APX Mode (Volume Up & Power button)
You won't see anything on the tablet screen, but the PC should recognise it, that is the only indication that you have successfully entered APX Mode
Install APX Drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942
Run EasyFlasher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Depending on your tablet serial number you will need either SBK1 or SBK2 selection in EasyFlasher - easiest way to know if if your tablet serial starts with B4O > B6O it's SBK1, anything above that and it's SBK2 (Some B7Os are SBK1 but not many)
You need to select TWRP Recovery from EasyFlasher and flash that first
Once you have successfully flashed TWRP, you can flash any ROM you like from TWRP Recovery by booting into recovery
(Volume Down & Power until white text appears at the top of the screen, then release buttons and press volume up once)
Your TF101 does take Micro SD cards, it's a small slot on the lower right side of the tablet edge
Because you are coming from stock I would at this point suggest wiping everything from TWRP, but as you are not using a Micro SDCard, Im not 100% sure where you could store the ROM before wiping, so...
Copy the ROM & Gapps to your SDCard folder on your TF101 before wiping anything / before booting into recovery
Now boot into recovery and wipe only SYSTEM, CACHE & DALVIK CACHE
Now go to the INSTALL menu and find your KatKiss ROM & Gapps
Flash ROM then Gapps
Now back to the WIPE menu and wipe only CACHE & DALVIK CACHE
Now reboot
You should be booting into Kat Kiss now
My advice: Buy a MicroSD Card to make things much easier and have a way to recover your tablet if you accidentally wipe everything including your Custom ROM zip while you're inside recovery
Thanks so much!^^ I do have some questions still though.. (so afraid I'll brick the thing)

To install the APX drivers, I first wipe the drivers via device manager, and then install the new drivers via device manager? Which file should I click on? The zipped folder, the unzipped folder, or one of the files? (I use Windows 8.1, don't know if it matters).

Haha, that must have sounded so very dumb. I am so sorry. I use a cover for my tablet and there’s no opening for the SD in that cover, so never noticed it before, haha. Okay I have an Micro SDCard for it. So what exactly should I put on that SD? The KatKiss zips and the .zip.md5? Or the kernels? Or something else entirely? And what are/where can I find the Gapps? Are you talking about the ROM and Gapps already on the tablet or the new ones from KatKiss?

When you have the TF connected to the PC USB and enter APX mode, it should show up in Device Manager as ! unknown device or something similar, extract the zip of the Universal drivers and update the ! entry in device manager manually by pointing it to the drivers you extracted earlier - it should install the correct driver for you

No, just choose SBK2 and Flash TWRP recovery
Here is EasyFlasher with the latest version of TWRP recovery 2.3.2.3 included, it will save you having to update your TWRP later

Great, yes now you can copy the ROM & Gapps zip files to the Micro SD Card, and once you are inside of TWRP recovery you can now wipe SYSTEM, CACHE, DALVIK CACHE, DATA, INTERNAL STORAGE etc etc (Everything apart from External Storage which is your MicroSD Card) if you do not want to keep anything at all on the TF101 and just start a fresh with KatKiss

Don't know where you got that ROM from, but it's not named the same as the actual ROM from the main page
This is the ROM you want
http://downloads.timduru.org/android/tf101/K.A.T/KatKiss/4.4/dev/KatKiss-4.4.2_018.zip
See how yours is called KatKiss-4.4.2_2018.zip
Actual ROM doesn't have that 2
KatKiss-4.4.2_018.zip
Another Guide for you
Hi
Frederuco also did quite a good guide HERE
It might help you too.
Okay, thanks. So I'm doing this, but can't seem to boot into TWRP... APX, EasyFlash all went great, but when I try to boot into TWRP (Vol Down+Power and when text comes vol up) it just boots into my tablet (you know, asus, android, but no TWRP).
Am I doing something wrong? Or should I press earlier or later on the vol up?
Detection: My bad that was a typo, i actually have downloaded the good version but it seems that the md5 is not correct.
I already wipe the system and havent a microSD card yet. So i can't change the file on the /sdcard. But i have a SD that the dock can read. And also 2 USB. But it is possible to use them in TWRP ? With a mount command or something ? Otherwise i will buy a microSD...
MichelleChristiana92: When the text come up, you have only 5s to press VOL_UP

You could use ADB in TWRP and push the new ROM to the TF via ADB commands
Put ROM in same folder as adb command is being run from on the PC
So if ROM is on C:\ROM, make sure Command Prompt is like this:
C:\ROM> adb push nameofROM.zip /sdcard/
Hit Enter
That should copy the ROM to the TF internal sdcard
Thank you for help.
But actually adb does not found my device :/
Is there something to configure ?

Check Device manager and install these drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942
Or use Ubuntu, once you install the adb tools you should have no problems connecting to the TF using ADB - I use VMWare Ubuntu install for that
Hmm.. I press the vol up as fast as I can, but every time when I press it it goes to that second text screen with "OS will cold boot to stock linux, you have ten seconds to press vol up or vol down for..." or something like that.. I don't even think I have 5 seconds. When I press it it immediately goes to that second text screen, and then just boots.
Will try again tomorrow, if you know anything please let me know (but its probably just me though

Try using EasyFlasher to Root your TF, and then install this App, it will let you press it to reboot into recovery
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.transformer.recovery&hl=en
It sounds like the TWRP install didn't work though, but could be wrong
Also, if you manage to root it, you could flash TWRP using GooManager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&hl=en
GooManager > 3 dots menu button top right > "Install OpenRecoveryScript"
But you need to be rooted for either of those options to work
As you can see in the attachment below, i already have APX Driver installed.
But abd devices does not recognize my device when i boot my tablet in the APX mod.
When i boot in TWRP, the device appear as USB MTP device but adb still not find it...

Yea Windows & APX don't play nice together from my experience
Install Ubuntu somewhere and use that instead, I use VMWare, I guess VMPlayer will work too if it can see USB devices, and it's free

Or boot your PC on a Live Ubuntu DVD / Flashdrive and do it from that
Thank you! I am on KitKat now!
I downloaded and installed EasyFlasher again, from a few diffrent sources, and one of them worked and I rebooted into TWRP! Everything went smooth after that and am on KitKat now!
Thanks so much!

Vodafone Smart first 6* NL *(EU) Rooting and More!
Done & Closed! After a wild chase finding the correct tools and apk's this took me 2 days to complete an fully rooted and Simlock free Vodafone branded Smart Firt 6.
Most of the files can be downloaded from below here on XDADISCLAIMER:
Rooting your phone and using custom Recoveries and ROM's have risks and may Void your warranty and can result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturers. In case of any mishap I am not responsible if you brick/ruin your phone in any way.
Basic computer skills are required and minimal knowledge about the phone and phone utilities also.
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.
It may be that you get an *softbrick *(bootloop) because Vodafone still pushing update's for their Firmware patching and upgrading the software!
To be safe please use methods given by: Androrooter and or Kirito9 !
#Rooting:
1# Download the root.apk onto your phone or SD card and install.
2# Now start the app and you will see it's all in Chinese, just click on the Root Shield Badge ontop of the screen.
3# Let it do its magic installing the scripts most likely it will auto reboot your phone without rooting it,
you must restart the root app again and click on the Badge (like done at step 2#).
~Now you are Rooted but the Superuser is Chinese and what i have noticed it's a temporary Root, if you lose root again just redo step 2#!
4# Download and install SuperSu-2.46 now launch an root app most likely the Chinese app will popup granting
for root permission, you must click on the colored (grant) button to accept.
5# Download an Root browser i.e. File Manager and let it gain Root permission, if SuperSu wont ask for Root it's now save to uninstall the Chinese app.
~From now on you permanently Rooted, don't go installing/modding stuff yet until you made an systems backup!
#Twrp or Cwm Recovery (PC version):
1# Download ADB Driver and install on PC. Download from here; http://www.datafilehost.com/d/2267ab98
2# Download TWRP Setup (thanks to Dees_Troy & Yuweng) and unzip on your PC.
3# Activate USB debugging under developer mode* and connect with USB to your PC.
(done by *tapping 7 times on the build number in the about phone section)
3a# Open the Twrp setup.exe and click on the next button.
3b# Just wait till the installation is completed followed by credits.
3c# On the next window, click on yes to proceed.
3d# Select Start Easy Magic TWRP Installer for MediaTek and click on ok
3e# Click on Yes to auto port.
3f# Now make sure your phone is connected, adb driver installed and usb debugging enabled, then click on OK.
~if you get any pop up msg on your phone screen just click on yes.
Just wait for a few seconds while the setup is been completed,
if the process was successful, your phone should automatically reboot into recovery.
~Now you need to make an full backup with Twrp so that all the files are safe!
#More Updates following Soon! To be safe please use methodes given by: Androrooter and or Kirito9 !

Kingroot 4.8 worked, so I ran the TWRP Setup and guess what another way to ruin the phone even further. Stuck in a boot loop now.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUYS GUIDE! It will most likely break your phone from start to finish!
Please provide a reset copy of your system.img and recovery.img for people who have lost their phones due to this guide, it would be very useful as the devices can be restored if adb / fastboot access can be achieved.

Well well QuantumRevenger,
Sorry to hear that this method didn't worked out nicely for you.
Maybe your firmware got upgraded and the recovery didn't stick?!
Did you try the combination Power + Vol Up while the phone is off and enter
the Recovery menu clear Cache + Dalvik after this reboot.
I can't help you with the systems files because i ditched the vodafone firmware for Vanilla 4.4.2 Android.
The only thing i can do for you is point to this thread where i moved towards myself-> MTK devices
Here you will learn an little how your MTK device works, also you can search XDA for an different Easy Magic TWRP or CTR or even Philz!

Hello RHodgett,
It most likely would work because this model bought by Vodafone for their (EU) market.
As we all know it's a cheap china phone suited for Vodafone requirements!
~Not speaking for the firmware updates they push once an while~
But rooting can be done very easy with the given root from my post or even now with the updated
Kingroot 4.8 said by QuantumRevenger. And like for the custom recovery it can get tricky mentioned by QuantumRevenger, i had no problem with this at that moment.
But i urge you to read my answer to QuantumRevenger problem from above, after that you can decide at your own risk.

Good Luck!
Thanks, I'll give this a go when the handset arrives in a few days and report back.
Can you explain how to then install the Vanilla 4.4.2 Android firmware? (or any other suitable stock firmware for the device)

No Problem & you're welcome!,
For flashing roms you need an custom recovery otherwise you can't Flash.
Nobody here is tailoring for our Vodafone branded(China) smart first 6 so you have to go where i send QuantumRevenger towards and where i am. (See post answering QuantumRevenger).
Here you can use the roms and learn more about our MTK devices in general.
For flashing roms you must install in the recovery as an zip file and then you're done!
MTK has other methodes to install but that's for advance users only.
Enjoy
&
Goodluck.
Hi, I've root using the Chinese apk and root checker says the device is rooted but I wasn't able to install SuperSU 2.46, it keeps saying the binaries need to be updated and it fails every time I update.
Rebooting using the TWRP setup just shows the Powered by android splash. I'm not sure what to do now?
Edit: Ok I've flashed a recovery from the threads you linked, finally got a bootloader working. Now to flash a ROM Got CM12.1 running, thanks!
DID not work for me
So I followed all the steps and everything seemed to work fine. The TWRP software said it was going to reboot into recovery but it is stuck at the android logo screen.
When I hold power button + up key its the same, stuck at the android screen.
When I hold power button + down key it boots into vodafone android.
I'm kind of stuck to what to do now (sorry I am really new to this)?

Try another Magic installer use CWM or Phillz, they can be found here or via google.
So weird i bet Vodafone did a firmware push on there bootloader or not all EU firmwares are the same(dat would be pretty nonlogical).
Sorry for the troubles please try the above solution and report back if that fixed it.
Goodluck!

That's the problem. SiInce the file is in ZIP format, downloading into the SD card and then doing the Power+Vol up, and update from SD zip, gives me an aborted message.
Putting the Zip file in the Phone memory (not the sd card) just doesn't open the file, saying format not supported.(casue it is ZIP)
What am I missing? please help with a step by step idiots guide, if you can .
Thanks

The root is an normal APK there are only two zip files here; the TWRP and the SuperSu.
TWRP.zip is an magic installer for your PC with the given USB drivers and Debuging turned on(See my guide).
Now SuperSu.zip can only be installed via an custom recovery like TWRP.
I'm noticing you're trying to flash without an
custom recovery?, that's an no go.
1# Root with given or Kingroot 4.8.
2# Install custom recovery TWRP, CWM or Phillz (Must be an magic installer version via PC) all these versions can be found on Xda.
3# Flash SuperSu via custom recovery and replace the first installed Root!
That's all there is to it, no deeper layers on how-to install.

Good luck!
OK got it. THe only way I could get the APK into my phone is via the phones own browser from this site. I could only move from my pc as a ZIP file only. Hence could not install. But now its done. I think I am rooted now. Root checker still says not rooted, but I can use ES file explorer and have managed to remove a few app. Does this mean it is Rooted?
Can I remove the Rooting apk from the phone now without any adverse impact?
I have also managed to load the TWRP on the SD card. IF I want to Flash a rom, how do I go about it? Can you link and stable ROM which I can use? Need a small tutorial.
AND very many mahy thanks for your support on here and input.

Okay Onlydongles,
I don't think you have Root (yet!), Es browser has an side menu.
Here you must scroll down and select Root Explorer, that's the real test if you got Rooted!
If not install Kingroot 4.8 via your phone browser.
For ROMs you have to go where I send everybody towards ->MTK Devices (link given in answers above).
Flashing ROMs is easy done by custom recovery select the downloaded ROM zip and flash with the given creator instructions B).
Enjoy

Good luck!
