Totally Bricked Charge? Non-responsive - Verizon Droid Charge

Calling all Android Superheroes!!
I think I've done it. Turned my Charge into a paperweight. Was trying to flash the latest GummyCharged 1.91 package using Odin. It failed 3 times, but having read many accounts of similar failures I retried using different cables, different ports etc. After every "Fail" I unplugged the phone, rebooted, shut down Odin and started all over again.
After the last "Fail" message the phone simply stopped responding to anything. Won't boot, won't go into download mode, won't boot to recovery, doesn't show any sign of life when plugged into the wall.
All my reading about bricked Droids all seem to have some kind of responsiveness so don't seem to apply to my situation.
If anyone has suggestions or can point me in the direction of further resources I can research I'll be most grateful.
The worst part is going to be telling the wife when she asks what I'm doing.....
Thanks in advance for any / all help.

Call verizon tech support and give them some crap about how your phone was powering off by itself and you were dropping 4g, 3g, and 1x consistently and now your phone wont even turn on. They'll surly send you a like-new replacement phone.

I was having odin problems with my Charge as well, every rom failed... I figured out I had to uncheck 'reboot' and keep the battery in to get it to flash right. I know this doesn't really help but its similar

Thanks Sleek. I bought mine through Costco so I think I've also got the option to head back to Costco and get it swapped out. However, I've made my way through life believing that I should never surrender to the challenges presented by technology nor my own stupidity, so I'm pride-bound to at least try to make lemonade out of this situation.

Thanks anoninja - I'll keep those tips handy for the next flash attempt. And there WILL be further attempts....

I had this happen to me on the second day I had my Charge. What happened was, I was flashing what I thought was the latest version of Humble EE4, but it wasn't, it an old .md5 file for my Epic. I didn't even look at the file name, I just looked at the file extension and it would not turn on, wouldn't show that it was charging (no pun), or any sign of life other then the phone would get hot due to something with the battery.
My solution was that I called VZ customer care and said something like, "For some reason my phone will not turn on. I plugged it last night and when I awoke this morning, it will not come on. I tried pulling the battery and it still does nothing. Is there anything you can do to help me?"
So the customer care lady tried to walk me trough a factory/data reset, and you guess it, "it didn't work." After another five minutes or so of her "trying" to help me, she said that they would replace it under the warranty and she overnight-ed me a new phone and I had it the next day. I did have to send the bricked phone back to VZ, so for good measure I ran an electromagnet over it, you know just in case.
You can try it that way or go into the carrier store and play dumb (like you really shouldn't have a smart phone) and have them replace under the warranty.
Good luck!!!

Take out battery, plug into rear usb ports (if you're on a tower. If you're on a laptop it doesn't really matter. If you want to know why just ask, otherwise just do it). Fire up Odin3 with administrative rights (right click, run as admin). Hold down the lower volume button and cross your fingers. If it still won't power up into download mode, your phone has tapped out and needs to be replaced.

Some times the phone looses power during the flashing process even though it's connected to the computer. Keep the battery in the phone while flashing to alleviate this issue.

Do everything he says but odin recovery.tar its in the humble ee4 section. After that reboot phone go to settings, then development, and turn on usb debugging. It took me 2 days to figure this out. Did the same thing. From now on before you odin make sure usb debugging is enabled. Hope this helps.

Just checked that forum and realized recovery.tar is not there. If you want it just pm me and ill email it to you. Its a lifesaver in your situation.

try this;
with battery out, keep the phone unplugged and hold down the volume down button and put the battery back in (not usb cable) and see if your phone responds to download mode this way. If it does, plug the phone in and see if odin now sees your device (with the battery still in).]
This worked for me in a similar situation.

My phone got hosed so bad that Odin would error out.
I finally found this and it managed to recover my phone:

Hi all. I appreciate all the suggestions. In the end I solved my problem by exchanging the phone. I couldn't get it to come back to life no matter what I tried. Thanks again to all.

[Q] Bricked Charge?

I hate to post here, but I've searched everywhere and have not found a solution to my particular issue.
I rooted my new droid charge using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657
I flashed the debloated ee4 stock rom with PBJ with voodoo lagfix and it all worked fine. Today, I decided I wanted to try gummicharge and decide to flash it, I forgot to turn off voodoo before doing so, and the flash froze up before finishing. After a series of flashing/reflashing and turning voodoo, I eventually got to where the phone would only boot to CWM, and now will not turn on at all, or go to download mode (yes, I know how to do it).
I'm out of ideas, I feel like my phone might really be bricked for good. Please help! Thank you in advance for any advice.
Edit: the battery was low when I was flashing, but the phone was plugged in. I've read to leave the phone charging for a while and that might help, but I've charged it for 2 hours so far and nothing.
I know this doesn't help you at all but I am about to use that guide to root my droid charge. Did you like the pb ROM? I cant decide which to choose. I really dont want to do one and switch to another and screw up haha.
The pbj kernel was really solid, worked very well. I just wish I hadn't kept messing with things after they were how I wanted them =(
I know you say you know how to get to download mode. Have you tried the method where you poul the battery out then push the two volume keys and hold them while plugging in your usb cord(all while the battery is out)? Then I recommend flashing one of the full stock odins from p3droidin developement section in all roms.
I had tried this before, still nothing. I even read that sometimes Odin will detect a phone even without the screen coming on and decided to try, still nothing.
I forgot to mention. Have you tried pulling the sd card? Sometimes that helps. Pull it then try.
No SD, no SIM card, and no battery in it, still nothing.
I should add that the phone was getting hot to the touch, is it possible that the phone fried and this wasn't a result of a bad flash?
I'm no expert, but I was unable to enter CWM while plugged in. However, I was always able to enter download mode while plugged in (and battery removed). Try leaving the phone alone for a while? Heat definitely isn't helping things.
Well, I've got the insurance on the phone and I feel like the heat (not rooting) was my issue. I hate to give up, but I've tried everything I can think of.

Welp, that's why you paid for it. I would be crying in your situation because I never pay for insurance. You might as well; you can get rid of any tiny scratches or imperfections while you're at it!
Same thing happened to my charge today. Was charging and got pretty hot and shut off. Now when I charge it the 4 buttons flash and I can't get into do dl mode with or without battery. Gonna let it charge for a while and report back but I think its fried. Was running stock.

[Q] Please help, bricked Nexus S 4G

I did search, both here and google, and have not come across a similar problem.
I picked up a nexus s 4g recently and unlocked the bootloader using fastboot oem unlock, flashed clockwork mod recovery on, and installed cyanogen 7. I then found out I'm a complete idiot because that rom was made for the GSM phone, and the radio doesn't work.
Tried to use fastboot to load an original rom back on, which failed, so found a windows machine and installed Odin, followed a tutorial on how to flash back to stock, Odin reported a pass, but the phone will no longer turn on.
No amount of taking the battery out, button combos, or charging has changed this.
I had about 70% battery when I tried to flash with Odin, so I'm fairly sure it's not a battery issue.
I also tried to adb devices with the phone hooked up, and nothing was found, so it shouldnt be an unresponsive screen.
Help?
did you make a nand?
I did not. Not sure if it would help, because I can probably download someone elses nand but I don't know how to do anything with it with my phone not powering on
I could be completely wrong about that, not very familiar with nandroid.
You can't get it into download mode?
Correct.
Essentially the phone is dead, it will not respond to anything.
Very similar to the battery not being installed, but I know for certain the battery has a charge.
I just checked the battery, and I retract my previous statements. 560mAh and 3.08 volts. Would that be low to the point of it not taking a charge through the charger?
I have it on a special charger directly on the terminals right now, I will post results once its through.
Read in the fascinate forum that a guy purposely flash a rom from a different device ans used Odin to revert back, also he gave a tip that one should keep trying to use Odin if the first try didn't work. Not sure if this will help never happened to me...

Fully charged battery did not help
Try what they used to suggest with the epic when it was stubborn. Remove the battery. Plug the usb cable into the phone then into the computer. Try to put it into download mode. If that doesn't work, I can't think of anything else. If you have insurance, maybe they'll swap it when they see it's dead for a refurb. Be nice and play dumb. Tell them something like it froze one time and you pulled the battery and after that it wouldn't turn back on.
I could use my insurance, but its $100 bucks now. Sprint really changed their policy on that.
I also don't really want a refurb phone, when mine was NIB 3 days ago. I realize it's my fault but still.

[Q] Hard Brick

Question, was in process of using ODIN when USB became discoed. Reconnected tried the process over but unresponsive. Decided to start over, pulled battery and now the phone won't power on. Anyone else experience anything similar or am I hard bricked to anyone's knowledge?

How much charge did the battery have when you started this process?
90% or so. Been charging it on the wall charger for the last 2 hrs but it's still not turning on.
Even though your screen Wont turn on sometimes Odin will still recognize it. Try this: turn Odin on pull battery from phone hold down volume buttons plug USB in put battery back in. see if Odin sees the phone. You may need to try several times.

It was just another example of my noobness. I didn't bother to try download mode. I forgot + and - with usb, so phone came on right into download. Only thing was Odin would not recognize phone. Hiemdall would but I couldn't seem to get that working. Then I moved the USB cable to different port on PC and ta da! Odin recognized the phone and the rest is history. Finally rocking the latest Valhalla.
Thanks again everyone.

That's great. These phones are very hard to brick!
OK, so I don't have to start a new thread and waste space (on the internet?), I wanted to try and piggy-back off of this one; feel free to move it.
Basically, I thought it would be OK to flash a Vibrant ROM over my girlfriend's GS4G. That was a stupid, stupid idea. I'm thinking hard brick, but cannot be sure. I've tried all sorts of button press/hold combinations, batter in/battery out, usb in/usb out and I get ZERO response.
Suggestions, or do I need to find a replacement phone and girlfriend? She works in Social Media and kind of uses her phone ALWAYS!
Well, hopefully worst case scenario you have to replace her phone. Make sure to plug the phone up to wall charger and let sit for an hour to make sure it has juice. Next, take battery out place it back in. Hold the volume up and down buttons together then plug in USB from PC to phone. This should get you into download mode. If you can get this far then there should be hope for fixing the phone.

OK, I think it was shot. We ended up going to T-Mobile, told them we did a software update via USB and the gal said, "yeah, you may have gotten a corrupt file. That'll happen." Then we got charged $20 for processing and she'll have a brand new phone by next week.
Thanks anyway.
i guess 20 isnt too bad. never flash a rom that is made specifically for your phone. dam, if you did this next week, you could have paid a little (and by a little i mean like 150. lol) and upgraded to a sgs2.

$50.00 dollars to whoever can help unbrick my phone.

Ok heres the past 12 hours of my phones life. I instalaled Zeus V5 with the ICS theme, I flashed Entropy's latest daily kernel. I was setting up my phone back to what I had it at before I restored it. It was working perfect at about 3:00 AM CST. I plugged it in and went to sleep. When I woke up at about 11:00 AM CST. My phone was off. I assumed it just shut off so I tried turning it on...nothing. I tried the 3 button push and nothing. I then took my battery out and put it back and still nothing. I've tried removing the sd the sim and the battery and then plugging it in. I've tried DL mode in several different ways. I've used different computers, different cables, different wall outlets. No matter what I can't get a single thing to detect this phone and it won't respond to any amount of button pushes...So if anyone can help me fix my phone I will send you either 50 bucks through paypal or a 50 dollar giftcard. Please I'm begging you. Anyone please help.
Do you have a different battery you can use? Sounds like it might be the one you have in there.

Mine did this, but it was when I was messing with different ROM's and kernels, etc. It just plain shut off. Nothing would work, not the 3 button, anything. So I pulled the battery, put it back in and plugged in my jig I bought from Mobile Tech Videos, $8 at the time, and it went into download mode. From there I went to GTG's Ultimate Unbrick, and I was fine. Try it, if you have a jig. If it works, then cool, and you don't owe me a thing.
try following the GTG unbrick up above with the odin.
i recall a post a while ago from someone who had bricked their phone and it seemed to be like yours, and one of the responses was that even though the screen didn't show up as download mode, it was still connected and able to odin properly.
when you plugged it into your computer in download mode, did odin pick it up?
You guys don't pay attention to what you read. He said, Nothing comes up on the screen and he can not put it on DL mode.
I would try getting a battery or if you know someone with an infuse, barrow the battery and see if that works. If that doesn't work, try the Jig. I'm sure with the JIG you will be able to bring back your phone from SOD...
GL
Ok guys, took it to AT&T and the guy tried like 4 new batteries. It is NOT the battery. He doesn't know what's wrong with it but then again I didn't tell them about the ROMS or rooting(duh) there is not physical or water damage at all. Anyone else??

Based on the description, since it had a functional ROM and died later on not in the middle of a flash:
1) Battery dead as a doornail - I BELIEVE that with certain types of jigs (potentially not the standard one) the device will turn on without a battery so this could be confirmed. If so, you might be able to fix it with a new battery OR topping off the battery in an external charger.
2) Total hardware failure of some sort, highly likely going beyond a brick. (e.g. even if you JTAGed a good bootloader it would still be dead - probably because the bootloader is still good.)

but seriously ..read it ALL!! and follow instructions very carefully ..i had to download ubuntu.. my phone "died" just a blank screen and this got me back!!!
good luck !!
Like I stated before. Mine did the same thing. Black screen, no power, 3-button didn't work. My jig popped in into download mode, and GTG's unbrick from there. I leanred a long time ago, to always have my jig with me. Love my jig! Thanks MTV! best $8 I ever spent.
I'm sure you tried this but I actually never use three buttons to get into download mode. I just insert the battery, hold down the two volume buttons and, while holding the buttons, I plug in the usb that's plugged into the computer. Flame me if this is obvious but I didn't see anyone suggest it.

I'd rather not try the unbrickable thing because my phone as of right now is in warranty I'd rather not void it. And yes I did the two button DL mode. Not 3.

Yes I do have it installed.

No response.

Phone was working fine this morning, screen flashed and phone vibrated, I went to unlock it, nothing. Tried to power it on, thinking it had powered off, nothing. No response at all. I had just plugged in a MicroUSB to USB adapter with a USB flash drive plugged in when this happened.
No boot to recovery, no boot to download mode. No charging light when plugged into wall or laptop.
Any help?
If I return it to my local store, and ask for a replacement exchange, what are the chances of them finding out it's rooted? If I can't turn it on, can they?

Verizon doesnt give replacement phones in store unless its under 14 days old. You just need to call them and they will next day air a replacement. As for the phone when you plug it in does it show a led light or the battery icon on the screen? Also was the battery extremely low when it went off?
Wasn't aware of that, thanks. This was my first phone to have an issue...
When I plug it in, there is no light. No reaction of any kind. The battery was ~90%, I had taken it off the charger and made a call or two.
P.S. Any chance a USB Jig would be able to get my phone into download mode? Once there, I would have no problem getting to stock and starting from scratch...

TWRP, but I can't get it to boot at all.
does it vibrate?
Last resort would be something called heimdall or something like that. I don't know if it will work but supposedly on older samsung phones it is the ultimate last resort even when odin doesn't work. Just google it and try to find some info.
Doesn't vibrate. Isn't heimdall for Mac?
Just downloaded and ran Heimdall, no recognition of my phone with stock cord or after market cord.
Edit: I guess at this point I just want to make know if there is any way for Verizon to find out my phone is rooted, and the exact process of getting it replaced?
Heimdall wont do anything for you since it connects to the phone the same way odin does, and you still have to be in download mode. If it doesnt vibrate or react in anyway when pluggin it in then its safe to say its dead. You should be safe switching it out as a dead phone with verizon too. You should call them early in the day so the phone will get sent out that day too, if they dont offer to next day air it then tell them you need the phone asap and they will free of charge (you may just need to tell them you need it and you lost all ur data, ect and they will help you out). Sometimes they will say you will receive it in 2-3 days free of charge, which is unacceptable.
Alright, I'm guessing I just ship mine back to them in the same box or...?
Thanks for the help, too.

Ya you will get a replacement phone with no back cover, you keep your sim card and back cover. There will be a shipping label for the return shipping which you can either drop off at a fedex or usps location. You have 5 days to return the bad phone from the day you get the replacement. They will explain everything to you on the phone.
Alright, so I'm really nervous about making this call. If I send it in, and they get it working enough to run their tests, and it comes up rooted, I don't have the money to pay for the phone at full retail price. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? I know a lot of people brick their phones by misfollowing instructions, or flashing things they shouldn't be, but I did neither of which. The phone just shut down, and won't turn back on.
Sending the phone to a 3rd party service is also not possible for me, at this time.
Edit: Just found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981582), which sounds almost exactly like what happened to mine. So I guess my chances should be good of getting a replacement, without any troubles. I tried to find other threads involving people who sent in bricked phone to find their experiences, but I didn't know quite what to search for..
