DO NOT RUN Advance Task Killer period. It does nothing but cause problems for the phone on eclair. Google recognized this and added a task managment solution built into froyo that works much better and won't cause random BS. If you think you know how to run ATK then you probably don't so read up on exactly what it does. Just remember people, when you boot up the phone, it starts most of these services because they are essential to the phone operating properly... imagine that. Don't try to be smarter than the phone. You are not going to save battery by removing processes out of memory. Period. Let them run. If you wanna save alot of battery, turn your display off automatic and run at a lower brightness level and turn your 3G radio off when not using data. Its that simple.
As for the speaker problem, remove the back and battery off the phoen and with your trigger or fore finger aggressively tap 1 time on the speaker grill and your sound should work when you boot the phone up. This action could be described as thumping the grill with your finger. I know this is a caveman way to repair a phone and is closely related to the beavis and butthead "kicking method" but it works almost every time.
Hope this thread helps. Your comments are very welcomed. Tell me what you are thinking....
Thanks for the info. I use ATK, but not in a harmful way (haven't experienced issues or random shutdowns). I have an extensive ignore list (of things that need to stay open) and security set to high, so system processes won't even show up, so it's impossible for me to kill them.

BTW... Just to qualify myself a bit. I am samsung certified and I am running a Captivate on the Leaked froyo, rooted, sideloaded, overclocked to 1.2ghz, verizon market fingerprint build.prop mod, LCD density mod = 210, startup sound mod, battery percentage in task bar.
well thanks for the inside scoop. so we can expect a major OTA update around christmas for the US market?
i will be removing my ATK program today. I've also been using Captivate Keep Alive, which apparently opens up a ton of applications to keep your phone active and prevent it from entering that "comatose" state i think.
Thanks for the info!
Can you recommend another easy way, besides ATK, to shut down all of the unwanted AT&T programs that load during startup?
Great info, thanks!
Hope you are right, but software issue is hard to explain my case. The first one I got had shut down 4 times within a hour(worst case, usually 2 or 3 times a day), and the replacement been used about 2 months, never had an unexpected shut down. Both of them are unroot, no side-loading, and never use ATK.
danalo1979, since you have the inside scoop, will there be any GPS improvements, or is it as good as it will ever get?
Thanks for the info on the speaker problem. I just had my phone swapped out for this problem. I wish the person I called into at AT&T would have told me about the Cave Man method.
Thanks for the interesting information.

Root your phone, get root explorer, go to system>app> go to desired apk file that you want to disable and rename to.bak extension and the os wont recognize the program. Its reversable just rename back to apk. Reboot phone. Don't do this on anything that is required for the phone to run.

So the random shutdown is only an issue for eclair roms? Kinda explains why I haven't had any shutdowns since flashing cognition.
Also, I find it kinda funny that an AT&T employee has his captivate sideloaded (no offense! Just wondering why AT&T would even want to block sideloading apk's..)
And the ETA for the OTA sounds very disappointing.... late Dec~late Feb...
Just had a shutdown, running Cognition 2.3b4. Have had other shutdowns while on Cognition.
I've been on 2.2 of some sort since it leaked. Mine has shutdown as often as 3 times in a day. from 100 to 50% battery charge. There is no ryme or reason that I can identify except: While running system panel; When you look at the graphs for the time period that a shutdown occurs I notice that the battery charge graph will suddenly drop like a rock, like 50% of what's left and then when i turn it on it initially reports the lower amount but by the time it boots it shows a "correct" representation of the battery charge. THAT is consistent for every shutdown. Sudden drop (50%ish) and it reports low on startup and jumps just the same.
Random shutdowns on Froyo but not Eclair
Well I'm on my second captivate, first one random shutdowns from day one.
I have gone months with no shutdown while running stock Eclair. The day I flashed the leaked Froyo or Cog I recieve random shuts within a few hours. I tried flashing back to stock/master clear/ battery stats all with the same results
For me with stock Eclair no random shutdowns
with Leaked Froyo or Cog I get random shutdown within a few hours
Frustrating

Flash Stock J6 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
after going back to stock 2.1 no shutdowns for over 2 weeks.
Last week flashed cog 2.3B6 couldn't take being on 2.1 anymore....shutdown within a few hours, installed CPU tuner and no shutdowns for 5 days so far running cog 2.3b6
If I had one shutdown running stock 2.1 I would return it
Dear OP, first off, I believe what who you say you are and what you wrote. Thank you for being open and honest. I am bone stock ATT 1010 v.004 phone build with a 09-17-2010 battery. When phone is completely stock it does not shutdown overnight. As soon as I add an APP, I get the overnight shutdown regardless of battery condition. I see that many apps say they need access the power keep alive function of the OS. Now I am not running homebrew apps or any mods as mentioned. I tried basics like Kindle or eBay or Chase Bank. I am 7 days into my phone and need it to stay on, so I can use the alarm etc. What do you recommend I do? Just keep returning it so I stay inside my 30-day window? Jump to a WM Samsung? iPhone4?
Can you also PUSH PUSH PUSH ATT to get this corrected. Samsung and ATT did not publicly acknowledge the problem on the three times I called, but only said if I returned the phone and got a new one, I would NOT have the problem again. Why is that? What do they know?
Thanks!

LOL.. I agree
I've only had the phone for less than 24 hours and I'm ready to send it back. Someone help me out please.
My phone keeps shutting down randomly. I rooted, installed CWM (Yes the nvFlash), Installed Evils ROM from the dev section.
The phone shut down right before bed last night and it must have done it sometime through the night because I had to restart it in the morning. Today it turned off a couple of times and my logical thought was that it was the ROM.
I switched over to EaglesBlood 1.0.5 hoping it would be a little more stable. It took a little longer, but it still shut completely off.
Nevermind the battery life I just want it to stay on. I'm no genius, but I'm pretty decent with ADB and terminal if I can fix it. Let me know if I'm overlooking something.
this phone has several issues. check the rest of the forums. what you are experiencing is one of them and it only gets worse from here.....

I've read most of the issues. I was hoping there was a way to fix it. I talked to a customer service rep at the Tmo store today. He said there is supposed to be an update released by the end of the month.
I rooted so I never have to worry about releases. Usually Cyanogen and his team are all over this kind of stuff. (Cue G1)
I really wanna know why it's doing it and how to fix it.
You by chance have an app that flashes the home buttons as a notification? When I deleted that, my random shut offs dropped...
Is it shut down? Or is the screen black? I get the occasional black screen... if you hit the power button the screen gets a little brighter... if it's that you can just do a hard reboot, power+volume up

Still not working
Okay I think this will help out. I'm been trying different ROM's for a couple of weeks now in an effort to get this to stop this is what's happening.
1. The phone shuts off completely and you need to pull the battery out to get it to turn on with the power button.
2. The phone turns off during a call or during use and starts up again with the boot animation.
3. Shuts off while charging in the middle of the night or while on the car charger.
What app needs deleted or removed? How do I do it? I'd like to post the solution up for anyone having this same problem.

After about one day of this GB update, what can we tell? Still any issues? Some people bricked their phones, so is there any idea why? Can we recap on what has been achieved this far? Are there any flashable ROMs with all good stuff?
The phone is still buggy. I have been having issue with BT and the phone locked up on a call once.
Basically, sometimes when I turn my BT headset off, it will still say it is connected on the phone. I will need to turn the BT off and then back on to get it to work correctly again.
As for the phone locking up. I was on BT and switched over to the speaker phone and the phone just died. I had to do a battery pull to get it to turn back on.
So it really just sounds like they need to work on BT more because I never had these issues on Froyo.

Did you update the baseband?
I'm curious about this too! I was about to start a tread, but this one shall do.
Questions -
1. (People having reboots before update)
*Did it fix the reboot issue?
2. (People with signal problems before update)
*Did the new baseband fix this/ do you get better signal now??
3. Another problem I have is that wifi and 4G constantly battle each other to see which one gets the signal. So I have to turn wifi on and off until 2G/4G go away.
(For people that have this)
*Did this get solved?
4. * Does GPS lock faster/work better?
I've had three different phones and I've had same issues with all three and even trying different roms. A different rom might fix one issue, but not the others for me.
My main concern is the reboot and signal issues!
These are questions for people that have same or similar issues.
NOT for people with no issues before update.
So please NO "There is nothing wrong with my phone!" People.
Thanks!!
....
For those who are still having problems after the update it might be wise just to do a factory reset because froyo and gbread is very different...
* GPS locks much faster now, often instantly, and indoors.
* Switching between 2G/4G seems to be smoother; doesn't lose the connection for a few seconds like it used to

I had reboot issues before and so far haven't had any, but to make a proper conclusion I'll have to wait, as even before the update sometimes I would make it days between reboots/shut offs and sometimes only hours.
GPS appears to be very good now, as for wifi/4g/2g I always turn off 2g and use only wcdma setting, and haven't had any issues with it, I leave my wifi and BT on at all times too even when not connected and don't have too bad battery strain.
some things I noticed, in the gallery now when I hit share I don't see the gmail option, the camera reverted back to stock, which is a shame because I loved the things the LG cam app had, but there are a lot of camera apps (I love vignette) so that's not a huge issue, if anyone has the lg app I would love it back though.
I did have some sluggishness especially this morning, I downloaded some widgets though so it might be more of what I added than the update itself.
one surprise was that I thought it was supposed to wipe all data etc. from the phone, but everything was set up the same as I had it before with launcher pro, so I was happy I didn't have to start from scratch. Also I have been getting occasional force closes with launcher pro that I didn't have before.
as far as quadrant scores go I'm getting consistant 2600+ so that is good, I had Faux's kernal and OC to 1300 w/ pimpmycpu and was getting 2800-3000 so without OC I'm more than happy with 2600. Now if only netflix will make it's way to this phone as is, and hopefully we can root soon as i really want ROM Manager, pimpmycpu and a few other root only apps to work again! Love this community, everyone is so helpful and creative, keep up the good work.

Has anyone figured out why some people have bricks trying to update? To be honest I still hesitate to do the update because I still don't know why this happens
MOST of the situations seem to be because they didn't want to follow directions, and insisted on doing it their way...then, "OMG! LG BRICKZORD MY PHONE!!!"
I'm sure there were a minority few that had some other difficulty, but from what I read, almost every "brick" post I read had failed to list "nvflashed stock recovery" as one of the prerequisite steps.

I wish that were true for me. As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm still getting 90-180 second TTFFs, which is about where I was with stock Froyo. I hope someone will reply to my question in the other thread about the system settings they have that give them such good results. I've fiddled with all of the ones in the hidden menu GPS Test section and haven't found a good combination (and I don't know what the factory settings are supposed to be any more); it's hard because of having to wait a few hours between tests to let the ephemeris data expire in the receiver so I won't just be getting a carryover hot fix.

As for the camera, I think I actually like this one better. At least, it seems to do a better job of taking close-ups with the flash. With the original LG camera, close-up flash photos were always blown-out and overexposed. I took a couple of test shots in a dark room with the flash, and they look great, about as good as you can get with an LED flash, I think.

If I recall, once you reach the % range....the install range, it tells you, do NOT disconnect. Some of the pictures people were showing were in the Analyze area, before the actual download and install. I think if you get past the analyze phase you can install. I don't believe you can get past it with CWR installed.
Even still, the anticipated failure rate of an update like this (Bricked), is like 8 digits to the right of the decimal point. Even with the problems MS had with the NODO update on the Samsungs, the total # of failures was like 8 World wide. (or just over half their sales. )
So the process is pretty well tested and known.

Hi all,
Since updating my O3D to the latest firmware via the LG Update tool, it has crashed a few times (at least three), so bad that I had to reboot.
It happens when I use the keyboard. Twice while typing text messages and once in Dolphin web browser.
Keyboard and messaging app were the stock ones from LG.
It seemed like the keyboard 'app' crashed and wouldnt respond to presses any more. I could press the home button at the bottom of the screen, but the keyboard stayed on screen taking up space and everything move up to the top. If I held the home button I could switch apps but noting worked. Eventually I just held the power button and powered off. I had to choose power off twice before the phone did anything.
This was the same each time it crashed.
Anyone else seen problems like this? Never saw it before I updated the fw but then again I've only had the phone a couple of weeks.
This is my second update since having my Optimus 3D and yes this time I have noticed one problem that I didn't have before which is that if I leave my wi-fi enabled then the phone will reboot after about twenty minutes of it being on yet if I switch the phone off the phone works fine.
So yes it is possible the firmware update affected your phone in some way. In your case you could try a different keyboard app but in mine it is the built in wireless so no solution as yet but maybe a keyboard app and or alternative messenger app will help solve your problem.

same here I had problems once I updated from D to K and then 10J, the phone will just keep rebooting, I tried taking out the SD card as some have suggested but that still did not fix the issue, last night I totaly wiped the phone to Brand new condition, then re-installed everything via the market, No root and the phone so far has been working perfect, 14 hours no reboots with wifi set on always.
after updating to LGP920-V10k-SEP-17-2011 my phone reboots ever 20 min.
phone is completely wiped no root. just standard.
Not sounding good. I do have root on my phone and I also leave WiFi on from when I get home until when I go back to work and my phone doesn't reboot on its own.
The last time my phone crashed was Friday or Saturday but I havent used the keyboard that much since.

So, I don't know what happened. I didn't touch a thing on this phone, haven't changed any settings or installed any apps for weeks. However, just now, my phone has decided to start acting up in a bad way.
I'm on Paranoid Android 2.52, and I have been for many months now, with no stability issues of any kind. However, without any warning or cause on my part, something got reset. The first thing I noticed was that all of my settings reset to the default Android settings. I had to go through and change all my settings back to how I want them. Then I discovered that there's nothing I can do to get my lockscreen to work again. I have it enabled, I've tried every variation of lockscreen on this ROM, with delay, without delay, but the lockscreen just won't show.
Then I noticed that my notification bar won't display any notifications. It'll show the time, battery, Wi-Fi and other small logos. But the alarm, timer, text, e-mail, etc. notifications will not show on the bar at all. My phone will vibrate when receiving and e-mail or text, but no notification will appear.
Then I noticed that in SMS Popup, which I use, I can't un-hide the message on the popup. I have the privacy set such that I have to tap the little eye logo to display the message. But now that logo no longer responds. It will change color on press, but will not un-hide the message. All I can do is close the popup with the message unseen.
Then I noticed that my home button doesn't work. Either short- or long-press. Short-press should take me to my home screen, long-press should take me to recent apps. It does neither. My phone will vibrate when I touch the home button, but it does nothing. I've checked my settings, and they are as they should be. The button just won't do anything.
I'm sure there's many, many more issues I'm yet to discover. What on Earth happened to my phone and how do I fix this?

Yeah, I ultimately decided that the only thing I could do is just go back to stock and work my way up to BeanStalk. I enjoyed PA for a while, but all the BeanStalk discussion piqued my interest.
Anyway, I just wish I knew what happened to cause my phone to spontaneously fail so completely. It's seriously of a case of it working before I put it in my pocket, and it being completely ruined when it came out.

If you go back stock and run it for a day or two should let you know if it is a hardware issue.

Yeah. As soon as I went back to stock, everything was immediately back to normal. But, my past three phones have all lasted anywhere between 21-24 months without any problem, and then suddenly falling apart like the Blues Brothers car and becoming completely unusable overnight, just in time for me to upgrade to new phone with a discount. And, since my contract is up in a couple months, I wouldn't be shocked if my phone's about to have its end-of-term breakdown.
I'd really like to avoid the introductory prices on the S4, though... If I could keep this phone going until about June, I'd love that.

I don't have contracts and I've had phones with faster, newer, better hardware and I come back to and enjoy my Infuse more. As long as there is this kind of active development for it I will keep picking up cheap Infuse.

Yeah, I'll admit Scott's solely responsible for keeping my interest in this phone. A year ago, I was still on Froyo and I was getting bored with it and wanting a new phone, but I stumbled across PA somehow and thought I'd give it a shot. Three PA roms and Bean Stalk later, I'm still loving my Infuse.
The problem is that the hardware's just not holding up anymore. I'm having the famous power button issue. I'm going to try to gut my phone and clean the button myself, but beyond that, there's not a lot that can be done about it. I'd really love to dedicate the Infuse to an alarm clock/media player when I get my new phone, so I can still have something to mod. But I just don't know how I'm going to adjust to the sudden lack of customizability when I get the S4 with a stock release of Android.
