When I try to wipe Dalvik cache it says "E:Unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]"
is there a problem or it is normal?
i asked this same question a few weeks ago. this error is in relation to the ext4 partition on your sd card. if you do not have one, then this error is normal. most people have partitions on their sd card to use programs like link2sd. if you have a partition and you get this error, then something is wrong, but if you do not, then once again, it is normal.
so it is a problem, I have a ext partition (2gb) and a swap partition(64kb) and using link2sd. you think my partitions are not good?

I get the same error. 2 GB partition no swap.
anybody knows the answer?
maybe try to repartition? is it ext4?
I used the CWM to partition the SD, it didn't asked me about the file system so it should be the default setting. but in link2sd, it knows my file system as ext4.
if link2sd works, then all is well, but if not check out this thread:

how do i format sd-ext2???
how do I go about clearing everything and starting again? there is a option in the wipe/format menu, called Wipe all Partitions (DANGEROUS!), does this clear everything? I dont want to do it without checking with experienced forum members first, so if you can help, please leave below....
You've got one solution
Make a backup from your sdcard on your PC, and format partition and increasing the size of three of them ( system, data, cache, sd_ext and ext2) with your recovery on EXT4.
Like this:
- system => Ext4
- data => Ext4
- Cache => Ext4
- SD-ext => Ext4
- SD-ext2 => EXt4 or Ext3
- sdcard => fat32
then, restore your files on your sdcard.

Use the EXT4 recovery as suggested, although are you sure that you'll need this space as the DS had over 1GB of internal user storage available to you by default. Mine has over 700mb free with all my applications installed.
The un formatted message relates simply to the non existence of the partition and isn't anything to worry about.
To wipe everything, the easiest way is to simply perform a factory reset, either from bootloader or from settings
The wipe all isn't what you are after as this is used by ROM cooks and wipes all partitions, which should only be used when installing new roms

Hello!
My problem basically is that i can't use Link2sd - i'm currently running the latest CronosX mod - because it can't create the mount scripts. I keep getting the following error:
mount: mounting /dev/block/vold/179:2 on /data/sdext2 failed: device or resource busy
i have a trascend class 10 8gb SD, i have a 6,5 gb Fat partition and the rest is EXT2 (now). I formatted it with minitool partition magic.
I have googled the problem for days now, seems i found nothing useful..
so far i tried:
ext3, ext4 -- then still couldn't create mount scripts, but i also had the following error msg in OR:
"can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (invalid argument)"
although in SD utilities when checking the ext partition it recognised as EXT4 or EXT3..
with ext2 it seems working as of i don't see that msg..
still no link2sd. I read in the mod's forum that the app is supported, so it can't be the problem.. or is it?
Same issue, resoved by using FAT32
I had the exact same issue you're having. I tried using EXT2,EXT3, and EXT4 but couldn't get it to work. I finally got it working by using a FAT32 partition.
I know this may sound a bit dumb (like myself in android technicals) but
1. Do you have the specific kernel modules loaded to recognize these filesystems?
2. Are the devices attached to the PC with memory card access? [should not be].
3. Maybe you should try partitioning with a linux distro or some specific tool (might want to check out some instructions.
I am operating Link2SD with a fat16/32 partition (I don't know which )
I have same problem does someone solved it ?
i had no solutions whatsoever.. currently i'm using the mod's built in app2ext
i made an ext2 partition which i transformed into ext3 with openrecovery.. now i have an app folder which is automatically used to store my apps.
no link2sd for me anymore :\
although i have some other issues for i'm about to open a new thread
I found the solution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713478
linksd mount solved
with the phone plugged in to pc/mass storage i formatted the ext2 partition again. in link2sd mount in ext4.

Mount as ext4 is not a problem. It should work.
Sent from my XT720 using xda app-developers app
how you can solve this problem, is to make the second partition a active partitons with MiniTool Partition.
When de second disk is a active partition it wil boot before the boot of the system.

you must re-partition your sd card, BUT, just do it for your sd-ext only:
with Partition magic
1. delete your sd-ext partition (JUST YOUR SD-EXT PARTITION)
2. create partition
3. set as Primary
4. and CHOOSE ext4!!,
5. ok and then,
6. Apply
I hope this will help you..:good:

I had the seem problem and I solved creating 3 partitions. The first is not utilized but it must be create because as the Link2Sd as the AndroidOS search the data partition in the second (or last for AndroidOS) partition. I have created the first more small as Linux Swap, the second in ext2 fot Link2SD and the third in Fat32 for SD-Ext Data.
So the App works fine.
Sorry for my English.
Much Appreciated

No apologies necessary, i believe you were clear enough, well what do you know i must say inverting the order does seem to work
1. swap 2. Ext and 3. Fat/ Fat32

if i do that then i cant connect my usb storage to my PC, cuz if you create partitions with minitool, only the first partition is read as usb storage, so if you make the first part e.g. a swap file, then PC wont see your usb storage when plugged in via usb... and in minitool i see all partitions without drive letters, just .* sign after i format and create partitions.... and nothing helped me with mount script error either...

Connect Phone to PC in Mass Storage Mode
Open MiniPartition Tool
Format the 2nd Parition as EXT4
Disconnect the Phone
Open Link2SD and you will see acript created and mounted already (for apps in SD card)
easy solution work for me ;D
after create partition ext 3 , just go to root file manager and change system file from read only RO to read write RW and recreate mount script on link2sd . hope it works happy new year!

Zachary had the solution for me! Just convert link2sd to system app (function of link2sd, after that my phone crashed and restarted) and clear the ext3 or ext4 partition (or reformat). I used Minitool Partition Wizard under windows. Don't forget to select primary partition!
I have the latest stock Gingerbread ROM, AmonRA, ROQ kernel and I'm unsing link2SD.
I'm getting short of space on my data partition and I would like to recover some space from my cache partition (that is now 64Mb big).
Is there anyway to move some Mb from /cache to /data?
Possibly recovering a whole NAND backup.
I saw scripts for "Cusotm MTD Partitions" but they all looked for different phones.
Thank you very much

u can't change internal partitions in p500. but u can change the size of SD-ext partition that link2sd uses to store apps. U can do that with the help of ur recovery. But remember that changing size of sd-ext partition will format ur whole sd crd. so make the necessary backups

I'm running out of space in /data partition, /sd-ext is ok.
I see I can nandroid backup all partitions: can't I edit them somehow and then recovery them back?
BTW: I would use a Windows partition resizing software on the SD mounted in my PC to do what you meant, that should not lose any data

when u backup ur partitions it just means u r backing up the content of ur partitions as a whole. So editing them won't do any good.
instead flash an app2sd script which moves dalvik cache to sd too. like this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668247
My dalvik cache is already on SD, using LInk2SD; the problem is the /data content; it would be great to move the data to SD too
I also used link2sd till recently and switched to S2E (simple2ext) from the market but I think it only works for cm7 and cm7 based roms.
If you use a lot of apps including games I would suggest making the ext partition 1gb when using set script.
Backup your apps with titanium backup, wipe the phone clean, flash the rom.
Install S2E, open it.
Press menu key and go to Settings, and enable “Mount as ext4″ (mandatory).
Close and reboot.
Open S2E again and select the folders you want to move to SD card. I recommend selecting Applications, Application Data and Dalvik cache. Leave Private apps and Download cache unselected.
Reboot and changes will take effect. (This reboot will be slower than usual as your dalvik cache will be rebuilt.)
Done.
Now you can restore from the titanium backup and you shouldn't have any more problems with space.
p.s.: don't backup or restore link2sd, it will mess with s2e
You mean it will move the /data folders too, in contrary to Link2SD?

Is it correct that, in the steps you listed, the old sd-ext partition is not needed? S2E won't read it, right?

The sd-ext partition is very needed. that's where all your apps and data and dalvik cache will go. S2E works basically like Link2SD only it moves data as well, to the same place.
When I said wipe the phone, I meant formating the system, internal and ext partitions + dalvik cache so you have a clean slate and bug free installation.

Use the script mentioned here. it moves ur \data partition to ext. it will give u ample amount of storage. and remember that u should increase the size of ext partition only if u have class 6 sdcards or else ur phone will suffer serious lag
Sorry, I meant the content of the sd-ext partition before this upgrade: I have to reinstall all apps, I don't need the old installations in the sd-ext, right?
Thank you!
I finally upgraded the ICS Plus by Hehappy from CM 7 GB and I increased the ext partition from 1 gb to 2gb as i was falling short of space. However the ROM is not recognizing the new EXT4 which I partitioned using Mini tool partition wizard. It don't show on Titanium Backup or S2E app. Then I converted it into EXT3 it still recognize it. Can you tell me what the problem is? Am I missing something?
I was using EXT2 with GB which I created using Clockwork recovery. But now I wanna use EXT4. Can you help me? Thank You.
Tried formatting with CWM
I formatted the the sd-ext partition with CWM and it was recognized by the phone. TB and S2E showed the information of the partition. However when I checked the information on the Mini partition tool, It shows that its a EXT2 partition. How to get EXT4 working on my phone?
If you have formatted ext partition using CWM it must be ext2. CWM uses ext2 format
Just try to format whole card from the start and partition it using only either CWM or Mini tool partition manager. If your using the tool make sure you do this using the card reader.

I partitioned it with Mini tool partition like I have mentioned in my first post. It was not being recognised. It was only after I formatted the sd-ext with CWM that the sd-ext was being recognized. What am I doing wrong?
I dont think you are doing anything wrong. Maybe its bug in rom which causes the problem. There are same issues reported by some members who do not have ext4 working.
You can try amonra recovery and format partition to ext4 and see if it helps

Flash AmonRa recovery. Backup your SDcard. Erase SDcard from Settings> Storage.
Partition SDcard through recovery. Upgrade it first to ext3 then to ext4. You can see these options in AmonRa.

Thanks I will try that but after I get back to my normal routine. Right now I am traveling. Till then I will go with EXT2. But I am facing a heavy battery drain. I have my wifi on almost all the time. Probably that's it. But its almost twice as that it was with GB. Any solution to it? Also the volume of the phone ring seems to be less than GB at its highest level.

If you are sure its already ext2 then you just have to flash amonra recovery and upgrade it to ext4.I never used ext2 so i cant tell you any advantage of ext4 over ext2.
Download wifi TX power from playstore and reduce wifi txpower.. See if it helps.
Edit: Battery drain is due to v3 kernel.. No solution to it yet.
which one is better? ext2, ext3, ext4 or FAT32? and using what tools I should partition the sdcard?
I am using cm9.2.2
before that, I partition sdcard with Amonra Recovery with ext2 and use link2sd and have a problem, some times sdcard removed unexpected, when I reboot sdcard is not read, I pull out the sdcard and insert, and sdcard read normally. I reboot and sdcard not read again, I do this many time and finally can read sdcard. but it happens over and over again. I try to format the phone and install app, move app like unrooted phone, the sdcard work fine..when I try use ext2 with link2sd some times its happend again.,
help me..sorry for my bad english, I am Indonesian.
thank you before..
If you want to know what other people use to do this here I come:
How I make the ext partition:
Minitool partition wizard (windows)
Gparted (Linux)
Clockwork 6.0 (only for CM10+)
I didn't have any trouble with that programs, but be careful with the Clockwork because formats ALL the SD card, the ext and the fat partition, so make sure you do a backup of the SD.
Format of the second partition:
Always ext4
Link App
Link2sd is the best, other caused troubles over the time (reboots, not reading the sd, not reading the ext partition, etc)

I used ext4 in all CM from 7 to 11 and no trouble, but always formatting after every wipe with gparted or minitool, because Clockwork 5.0 seem to not format well the ext partition, so after every wipe you should reformat with those programs.
From my experience use ext3, it is good and compatible with everything, allmost
