Internal storage memory - Verizon Droid Charge

So my cpu is down for another week or so.. So I'm stuck with stock touchwiz.. Every 8hrs or so my internal memory jumps to like .02gb free and I have to reboot. Because it won't open programs them after reboot it goes back to 1.15gb free. And it happens all at once. Its not a slow steady increaswe This its a pain. Any ideas? Thanks

Any way to free up RAM in CM7?

Hey guys, the longer I leave the phone on the less RAM I have.. I am down to a measly 62MB of ram at the end of the day.. I thought that android 2.2+ didn't need task killers? Anyone have any apps or ideas to help with that?
Edit: Please move this thread, I posted it in the completely wrong section I didn't have my glasses on, sorry.
Don't use any task killers but if you need a memory helper def go with "autokiller" from market. Its free and will def free up some ram for ya.

Does your phone slow down? If it's not slowing down, don't worry about it. Apps stay asleep in ram and don't run, this just means they don't have to be reloaded and are saved in the position they are in when you left them... this is the pseudo multi-tasking. If it's not slow, don't mess with it. Mine runs down that low fairly often with no loss of speed. But you can adjust the minimum settings in autokiller as suggested above if it bothers you that much
you can always enable some swap space.

Are you talking about compcache?
And my phone seems to progressively get laggier throughout the day but a reboot every morning seems to be sufficient.
Using autokiller with the optimum preset keeps me with 120 mb free and things still run fast and smooth. . .

I use advanced task killer and it works fine. Under settings I have auto kill set to safe and to do it when screen turns off

Comp cache will be slower, and isn't necessary for phones with as much ram as ours. Swap is far different than comp cache, and may help some, but I notice no difference.

I don't recommend anyone use this.

one thing that I do is use Titanium Backup to roll updates into the ROM. it hasnt caused me any issues yet that a reboot doesnt solve.
If you long press on an item in Titanium Backup...you get an option to integrate update into rom. Doing that will free up a small bit of storage, but for multiple apps it might add up for some people. My phone is smooth as butter running CM7

Maybe running donut or eclair, but anything post froyo has absolutely no need for a task killer, simply use google search.

App storage space is off after ICS?

I've installed the stock 4.0.3 incremental on my i9023 when it came out in December.
Now, the thing is, when I go into Settings->Storage it says I have 300mb of app space left (internal memory, not sdcard). If I go into Manage apps, it shows the same thing, but if I wait a bit (~5-10 seconds), it suddenly tells me I have 480 mb left.
Now my question is which one is right? Anyone else ran into this?
I'm thinking that some services might not take into consideration the fact that some apps are actually on the sdcard, but that seems stupid to me, and possibly wrong.
Yes, it happens to me too. It fluctuates between 300mb for me within seconds. Weird.

Okay, it stopped for me after I did a hard reset. Now the phone flies at all tasks. No noticeable lag, no more launcher restarting after using an app. No more 0.00 ram. I'm glad I did a hard reset.
Full disclosure: I unlocked the boot loader and rooted. Also installed wallet. Everything else was restored from Google servers.

Interesting. How's battery life after the hard reset?
I'll let you know within a couple days. I need a few days of normal usage.

[Q] about ram and multitasking

Is ram availability on this phone based on time or physical availability?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
What do you mean time? Ram is a physical limitation. But since sense is hogging up quite a bit atm, we might be able to squeeze a bit more free ram in the future.but 1gb is fixed.

I know it's physical but some of my apps don't hold their spot after time vs availability of free resources.

Apps only get dumped from the RAM by the OS when the OS runs out of RAM to use.
So just time wouldn't affect an app getting dumped from the memory. Your problem is probably stemming from an app that continuously is using up more and more RAM.

Actually, Sense also kills apps after a certain time limit (around 10-15 minutes) even if there is sufficient RAM. So, to answer the OP's question, YES, the physical limit of RAM as well as the arbitrary HTC Sense "time limit" will both kill a back-grounded app.
You can test this yourself easily. Reboot phone. Load two apps, then make note of your RAM usage. (You should still have a fair amount left with only two apps open.) Let phone sleep. Open phone 15 minutes later, verify RAM is roughly the same as you left it, use recent apps key to select an app, and boom, one or both apps will reload. :-(

not true. the OS will dump an app if its been idle in the background for too long even if there is a sufficient amount of free memory. I post a similar thread about it the other day.

[Q] How Long Does NAND Backup Take?

I'm sure this has been asked, but since the search function is down right now, I'll just ask in a new thread. How long should a NAND backup take? I am using CWM 6.0.1.0, and it's been churning for about an hour now. It's not stuck, and it's making progress, it's just really slow. I am backing up a ROM based on stock.
Admittedly, I am not using an ultra-fast SD card, but this still seems long to me. For those of you that flash a lot, do you typically backup to the internal or external storage? Is the internal storage perhaps faster than an SD card that is a few years old?
Thanks!
How many apps do you have on there? I know that that can make a difference. An hour seems long to me. It takes my DX about 8 or so minutes
Sent from my DROIDX using xda premium
Mine typically just a couple of minutes for both backup and restore. My Thunderbolt took an eternity.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
i have made many back ups on my S3. I personly make 2 backups. 1 on the Internal SD and one on the External SD. i do them both at the same time. I do that just incase maybe my 32gig ultra card goes bad.
Takes me around 10 mins or so to do both. I have a lot of apps but they are not big in size. Have fun

takes around 2-3 minutes

Media battery drain

I'm having an issue with media draining my battery at 55 percent usage. I was moving over a nandroid backup from my internal sd to external sd card when this issue occurred. After formatting my external sd card the media is still at high percentage. Even after removing my sd card from the phone the usage is still high. Anyone know how to fix this?
I get that every time my phone boots up too. It just started doing that on Saturday for me. I found out that if you go into your battery usage stats and select it (after the phone has been running for a few minutes), select it, and then force close it, that I'm good-to-go until I reboot my phone again. I'm not sure why it started doing that, but at least I found an easy "fix" for it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
What the media drain is is its scanning and organizing databases for your info on your sdcards. give it a few hours to do its thing and it'll go away. If not then just keep it on the plug for a couple hours and it should be good when you unplug it
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
There's an app called, rescan media root. Maybe try that.
