[Q] Noob Q's about BLN potential/LED? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I might be tripping out but i think i saw a red led on the front of the phone.. is it possible to use this for notification purposes like a BB?
Also, can anyone please explain to me if/how we can get BLN to work? Im using the Infused ROM and wasnt able to figure it out
Thx

I'm not quite sure what that thing is myself, but I'm pretty sure it can't be used as a notification LED. As for BLN, you need to be running a kernel that supports it. I think the Defused kernel does have support for it but it's buggy, but if you can wait a day or two bedwa is trying to implement BLN support in the next version of his Infusion kernel. Either of those can be flashed over the Infused ROM without a problem.

BLN Just Wont work (flashed 3-4 roms)

I have Infin1ty rom on right now, before that was stock, then oxygen, then zulu and opensoju.
All these roms had one thing in common----BLN wouldnt work for me.
I tried reflashing, wiping, doing EVERYTHING that i can think of! and BLN just wont work. I have NO clue why, i reflashed roms, bought the pro app and still didnt work.
The test notification works fine. Im running the stock messaging app and GO SMS, and for some reason nothing works.... im getting annoyed it works for everyone else accept a dozen or so of us xda members.
BLN works fine for me using Opensoju. Make sure to download BLN from market.

It's not the Rom which is important but the kernel.

I have always had Netarchy kernal! in every rom i put that kernal on! its the newest one as well. I might be switching to trinity however.....but im so confused why this doesnt work for me!!
i have all the correct kernal and everything, im so confused
I use a Trinity kernel with NSCollab, and it's ok.
Sorry, i can't help you :-(
So i just flashed the trinity kernal (one in the first post) and it still doesnt work with BLN.
all that happens is phone vibrates, i see my widgetlocker theme, then phone shuts off and the bottom keys arent lighting up. Whats going on?
I followed what this guy did here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088690
and it works for me.
It's not a perfect replacement for LED indicator. It only works on new messages, i.e. it won't stay until you clear your notifications.

There is an app in the Market called LG 2X/Black/3D Notifications that works with the G2X. It worked without root with 2.2 but apparently it requires root with 2.3.3 due to some changes LG made to the phone.
Yup I use the one phburks suggested works very nice, the developers of the app fixed the root issue with 2.3.3, works flawless
thx
just got it, works perfectly thanks!

I wouldn't call it fixing the root issue. I just downloaded and installed the app and it required root permission to make the file writable and has to do so at every boot. So if you are not rooted it will not work on 2.3.3 on our device.
Does not work for me.

is there any other app in the market that will do the same thing without rooting?

No it is not possible. LG changed the permissions on the file that controls the soft key lights in Gingerbread. It is now a read only file. In order to write to it and turn on the lights you must be rooted so the app can change the permissions.
Their always the no led app

I think this one sucks compared to the CM7 one. CM7 one has slightly better options and less annoying. That is, unless someone can tell me how to not get this one to "pulse" the lights and give the option to cler with touch of home key.

No. it basically turns your screen on when you get a notification and shows icons depending on what you have...mail..txt..etc. It keeps the screen on until you check it (i think you can set it on a timer tho). But yeah..its a battery drain.

Phone shutting off during the night.

So, I've got this annoying issue where my phone decides to randomly shut off in the middle of the night while charging. Well, of course it turns back on, but to the battery charging screen. The problem is, I need my alarm, and for two days now I've woken up late due to this. I'm on stock Froyo, UCKH1. Rooted and CMWed. Does anyone know what could be causing it?

My thought on this is that the phone could be crashing from something. Check what apps you have running. Have you ever noticed your phone reset during the day.

It's not a bad phone. It's something software related clearly, but I've done stock recovery. I feel the next update will fix a lot of things, including issues not everyone has, so I'll just wait it out and get a real alarm.
EDIT: One of the biggest issues I've seen with this phone is that the Froyo it shipped with was kind of half-assed. I mean, it functions, yeah, it works, but does it work like it should? Not really. The Froyo on this phone is buggier than a picnic taken over by ants.

My wife has been having the same problem with her captivate.
She's on MIUI, I thought it was a problem with SetCPU, but I put her voltages and everything back to stock.. it must be something software related.. gotta keep tracking the little bugger down

Use a kernel with BLN support. It will use your captivate buttons as a makeshift LED notification.'

Does it work well?
Well, sort of. When I had my Vibrant, I could make the buttons really pop out and see them from across the room. With this, if I can see the buttons, then I have a notification. If I don't see any buttons, then it's because the lights are off. It's not as bright and nice as the Vibrant, but at least I can look and see if I have notifications. If you use CM10, there is an option in settings for it, under Advanced.
You can try this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.led.notify&hl=fr
Works well, no need for specific kernel
