Two things I wish were changed in Sense 3.0 - HTC Sensation

The first is that I miss having panoramic wallpapers because having stationary live wallpapers kinda looks lame.
The second is that I want to be able to chose the app drawer style. I want to be able to switch between the current one and the individual ones in other versions of android.
What other stuff do you miss from old Sense?

I agree on the panoramic wallpaper, it was way cooler.

not possible since the carrousels keeps turning...the home screens are not stationary so a panaromic wallpaper is a no go

I say screw the carrousel effect. Its lame and serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Just another useless piece of eye candy HTC included in this laggy ass version of Sense....Ill tell you what I would like to see. HTC go back to the drawing board, take out the eye candy, optimize it for speed and give us more customization.

I liked the way my signal indicator was green to show it had a connection to Google, on my N1. Now I can't tell.

i wish they would make better use of screen real estate.
960x540, and i have less icons/information on the screen than on my old windows mobile - xda diamond...
pretty lame that you have to install 3rd party apps doing a better job at that.
can it be that its android's fault with that crappy 4x4 grid, only increased for tablets?

Man, in the dock, why the hell do I have to endure the Personnalize button? Why can't I replace it with something else? It's a feature I use once a week or so... wtf !

Yeah. Not being able to customize the dock sucks.
I like the carousel though, you can keep swiping and it's easier to get to a screen if you're on the last one and want to go to the first.

dead on...

I need the ability to customize the size of the widgets I put on the screen and I need to be able to add/remove pages &determinie if "I" want 3/4or 5 icon rows or columns.
Sense is too ridgid an interface for me. Launcherpro is he truth.

Its all been pretty much said, Sense 3 does have some nice eye candy but after 2 weeks I was onto good old Launcher Pro
Setting columns and rows is mint!! I have 5 colums and 8 rows totalling 45 possible icons compared to 20 on Sense 3

It would be great if we had different wallpapers, once for the lockscreen and once for home...
sorry for my bad english

I also go with being able to disable the 3D effect. And making use of the extra real estate.
I want to add a non-feature thing as well... fixing it so it doesn't keep closing and restarting.

Resisable widgets and more rows / columns.
Sent from my brain

I want it to not take a million MB of ram usage.

+1 for wallpaper landscape we should have a option. Another one is rosie rotation on unlock kind slow things down. And last news app was better on sense 2.1 more organized.

[REQUEST] autorotate animation

I don't know if thus is the right place to post this. So mods have at it and move if needed. Would it be possible to have an app that'll animate the screen during use of the autorotate feature? Obviously I have no clue on how to code

What are you trying to animate?
Are you thinking of something like the animation in an iPhone when you rotate?

Think "rotating an iPhone", he wants that fancy flip the entire screen effect present on Apple products. I love it so much, Steve may be mean - but Apple has perfect graphic and visual designers.
+1 it's extremely well polished. Granted it's not the instantaneous rotation that Android provides but it sure looks nice!

Shouldn't this be in development?
i happened to find in the market an alternate spare parts app that has a selection for rotate animations in it, just an fyi

[EDIT] Oh wait I've found it. The market version of Spare Parts. I don't seem to see any difference when enabling the fancy rotation though.

I actually thought there would be an animation a long time ago. Anyone remember the G1 zooming cube animation?
There was an animation back on 1.5 however within the source code it was commented out in 1.6 and then deleted all together on 2.1 . I read that it isn't possible to adapt to 2.1 because surface flinger lies on top of open gl. Could any developers get this running again? I'm sure it would be a lot quicker on the nexus one than the magic.
Yeah, that's definitely one of those many little things that make the Nexus look less polished than the iPhone (And don't get me wrong, I hate the iPhone )
+1 to this!
Perhaps something simple like a fading display. Or Have the background rotate first and have the icons and widgets rotate at a slower rate, so it looks like the foreground is trying to "catch up" to the background
I would take anything animated, i hate the fact that when i rotate my screen its just so still!
But i think its better for faster screen rotation.
this much talk and no developers chiming in.. don't think this is going anywhere..
YEAH THIS IS ABOUT AS LIKELY AS GETTING A FRIKKIN FLIP CLOCK THAT FRIKKIN FLIPS... AAHHHH THE OL' JACHERO DAYS! i SEE PHONES HALF AS POWERFUL BY HTC W/ THE CLOCK FRIKKIN FLIPPIN AWAY!
BACK ON TOPIC I TOO WOULD LOVE THIS IN ANY FASHION AS LONG AS THE DELAY (AND IT WILL SLOW THE TRANSITION DOWN) IS MINIMAL! HOWEVER I USE SENSE SO ROTATION IS A WHOLE NOTHER GAME THERE!

*Explain your home screen layout*

I thought it would be cool for us to share the reason behind whatever our home screen setup is, rather than posting a screen shot.
Do you like the home page to be empty & clean looking? Do you organize everything into folders?
Hopefully this thread will bring out some different ideas on how we can organize our home screens.
I personally like the home page to be blank so I can see my wallpaper, other pages with my most commonly used apps.

I llike my most frequently used widgets and apps on my home screen, but I agree, I would like it if my homescreen was just my walpaper... but I guess I am more of a functional person than an appearance person.

Fancy Widget clock shows time, weather, and date.

Below that is my 4 basic app shortcuts (Nav, Market, Camera, Email).
Nice and organized, and gives me all my most important info at a glance.
To the left of my screen is my list of most used contacts, and to the left of that is my work apps (VNC, RDP, terminal, network testers, etc.)
To the right of my homescreen is my shortcuts for most used apps, semi-grouped into categories (such as games, music related, astronomy related, etc.)

Thoughts on Launcher 7

Just curious to see what people think of Launcher 7, for those who've tried it. I gotta say, I put it on yesterday out of curiosity, and was surprised by how much I like it. I love Android, and balked at Launcher 7 at first because it was a completely un-Android UI, but maybe it's because I've been on Android for like 2 years now, but I find it really refreshing. I like its simplicity, efficiency, and different sleek look.
I'm curious to see how it does with battery life. I used my navigation/GPS a lot today so my battery went pretty fast, not a good test of Launcher 7. I'm running it over Synergy (lightest Sense ROM I could find) and under battery use it's not even showing up so I'm guessing/hoping it doesn't have a big effect.

Many home launchers don't use much power, i've used GO/LPP and both are normally floating around 1%. Now I used the L7 very long ago, back on my MT3GS, and it was pretty nice to have IMO, I did like the UI's feel overall. But at that time it was still buggy so I think that's why I had abandoned it. I'm a fan of eye-candy so I prefer something more flashy with fancy effects. Which is what GO gives me, it has this cool sphere effect for the app drawer.
Your biggest power drainers will be idle/standnby and Signal, and GPS.

And screen if you're running a Sense ROM. I've always wondered why on a Sense ROM Screen will be like 70% under battery use, but on AOSP only like 5%. I mean, the same screen is being used on all these ROMS right? I've asked that a couple times but never found an answer. Oh well. I'm sure it has something to do with how the ROM is utilizing things, but who knows lol.
Yeah I've been a loyal LPP user for my 3rd party launcher for a while. Love the widgets and the customizable dock. My brother runs GO on his Samsung Galaxy S and is always telling me I should try it, haven't yet but it does look very cool. I've seen pics o that globe app tray thing, looks sick. Is it smooth though?
So far Luancher 7 has been VERY smooth and seems to have minimal battery influence, like you said about 2% I think it wound up being. More than if you weren't using it, but solid nonetheless. I'm doing a lot of driving to new places this week so I'll be using my GPS a lot, it's going to be hard to get an accurate guess of average battery life but as far as function/style I am a big fan.
I will say though that the strength of launcher 7 (simplicity) might turn out to be its ultimate downfall lol. I'm enjoying it now, but it's just been a couple days. I can certainly see myself getting bored with it after a while. It's very functional but there is certainly something to be said for style and flare, and that's one thing it doesn't offer much of.
As an add-on question along with what people think of Launcher 7 in general - I'm curious to hear from any users who are using the donate version - does it offer better performance and features? Or does it just remove the ad in the app drawer? I think it adds a folder feature, which is probably worth the $1.50 in itself, but curious what else it offers.

I think i read somewhere that you can change the autobrightness and stuff of the screen and that sense has theirs up more or something, i don't remember.
But i use adw launcher ex and never see it on my battery stats, so i'm guessing that's good. And it never lags for me either, smooth as butter.

I didn't really notice a difference with the donate version when i used it other than it looks alot better without the annoying ads.
I installed Launcher 7 and used it pretty exclusively for a while.
I got to really like how the UI operated, and found it very quick. But I eventually stopped using it and uninstalled it.
The idea, for me, was to get to a LiveTiles experience, where I could see at a glance how many new emails and social postings I might like to read, upcoming appointments, etc... without having to deal with the rest of the crummy WP7 interface. So I suppose my goal is probably different than many. But I couldn't get there with Launcher 7 (no surprise, since it's built - and named - as a "launcher").
As a simple app launcher, it was decent, for my most-used apps... though the second I needed to use less-used apps, I was somewhat disappointed/frustrated trying to find and run them.
That and, while I eventually understood it wouldn't take me all the way to LiveTiles, the fact that it didn't have (at the time) a clock/date widget that looked decent within the interface (seems like a stupid thing, but actually became a necessity for me) made me opt for something else.
Haha, yep - after about 4 or 5 days, I'm off Launcher 7. It WAS very good and functional, but as I predicted I got bored pretty fast. I play with my phone too much to not have something flashier and more interactive.
Wound up trying Go Launcher Ex, and have to say - it's way better than LPP! Loving it so far!
Question if you read this: how do I get that sphere app drawer thing? Can't find it?
EDIT: NM, I realized they only come up with horizontal app drawer, I had it set on vertical.

Look in the settings of Go launcher, look through all the settings, i've ended up on LPP again b/c it has the Sense3 widget skins, and appears to be running faster for me on miui. With GO I would get many fc's and it would lag sometimes, this started on the newer versions of GO though. Sphere is the app drawer effect, look in effects, when on home screen, press menu, goto preference, and look for effects. Sphere effect is with chariot, binary, random, and the other animations.

having just recently moved from a WP7 to an Android phone Launcher 7 made me feel "back home" instantly. I like the WP7/Launcher 7 home screen with the big tiles; IMO it's a nice, fresh look compared to a large number of Android launchers or iOS. I never liked the 2nd page of the WP7 home screen - a one-column alpabetically sorted list of all installed apps? Boring and not very flexible.
I now use Go Launcher Ex and while I still like the look and feel of the Launcher 7 tiles, I do not miss it.

Non sense roms and their lack of decent widgets.

Hi all,
Tried runnning a non sense rom, miui and c7 and i have to say i struggled to fill the pages on my desktop, theres no full screen weather app half as good as the sense widgets, infact theres no clock as good looking as the sense clock either, the phonebook on non sense rom's doesn't match up contacts with their fb and twitter counterparts and it actually does lag at times, i thought i'd give it a whirl but i have to say i was left wanting.
Any ideas as to what weather app, main clock, bookmarks widget etc that you would use?
Because unless i'm being silly, there really wasn't a great selection out there.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

just to tell you, the Evo3D 3D camera is terrible. Well, not terrible, just... the 3D effect isn't as good as the Optimus3D. I've had a friend who took a 3D picture of me in 3D with flash and I took of him in 3D without flash. Both agreed that my picture was much better. And I tested out his 3D flash in a dark place. Trust me, it's not that good. When its light, Optimus3D has better 3D pictures. When its dark... the flash in the evo3D gives some light, but 3D effect is much much less too.
What I'm saying is, I wouldn't give up the excellent 3D image technology that LG has just for a tiny not useful brief of light from the Evo3D. Truthfully, the tiny flash isn't too helpful for the 3D. If you really want to take 3D pics in a DARK place, better to carry one of those huge and super powerful flashlights.
Sensation? Sense right? I was saying before how sense wasn't worth the time and effort to port. My reason is because, although its nice to look at, it also does drain more battery and takes up a lot of memory. Most of the people I know with Sense ended up switching to another launcher just days after using it. I'll admit that Sense looks BEAUTIFUL!!! But, after looking at it for a while, even pretty eyecandy gets tiring. The friend who had a Evo3D was very happy with Sense. However, he didn't feel anything special about it after about 3 days. I should also say that he quickly switched to Go Launcher EX after I showed him the Sphere transition effect in the app drawer. He hasn't regretted not using Sense yet. Don't think he will.
Porting a rom is possible, but a very long and complicated process. There's compatibility and stability issues to look at and fix. Its not worth the effort to do it especially when you think about how it'll be a never ending battle with bugfixes.
Personally, if you're just after gingerbread best to wait for LG to do it. People has waited this long, they can wait a bit longer. They've first announced the update to be in September I believe and then they announced that they'll delay it till this month or possibly next month for testing purposes. Just keep waiting, at least they tell you the reason its being delayed. Better than them just delaying the update for no reason. At the moment you know Gingerbread is almost here, but they're just at the stage where they want to make it as stable and bugfree before release. Personally, I feel that's much better than releasing some halfassed rom that has more problems than you can report. I'm sure some of you have been there. Haste makes waste right?
The testing stage for a product typically takes a long time. Some people spend months to test something before they release it. Its not like they can just develop something, throw it onto a phone, use it once then release it.
So, for those who are too impatient for the soon to come gingerbread release, my advice is just wait a bit more patiently. The more you rush them, the more unstable the release might be. Though, I believe most people are just upset due to an inferiority complex. Don't like to see that other people are getting a newer version of Android while their own is prehistoric. Don't worry too much about that, not like you'll always have the best and latest.
I agree to @DevJackey
moving from HTC Sense to other UI , it may take 2-3 days to adjust!
I am alive evidence of both HTC 3D EVO & LG-920 & LG-SU760 (special edition of LG 3D for SK Telecoms)
after several hours and capturing few pictures , I rushed back to shopkeeper to return the set and got back the LG 3D from him...Thanks God , I already experienced LG else could thought HTC EVE 3D is reality as best and this is how 3D works ... hehehehehehehe
LG works good even in room light. I think it just software issue and LG will release something to trigger FLASH in 3D. So better to wait for while , if LG will not do it , I am sure our XDA Developers are wonderful guys
First decide, What you want from 3D ?, 3D experience or UI (sense) + 3D Flash (and how many pictures you capture in dark)?
And don't forget the Real3D framework from LG. If you port the Evo 3D ROM you gain Sense and GB, but you lose Real3D, so no 3D app from LG will work on that ROM.
Thanks for your advice and also I say dark I Meen with my bed side lamp on but it just looks orange and grainy but I took a 2d image in the same lighting with flash and it was so much clearer
If your saying sense isn't that great can you maybesuggest a loader that uses little memory but Is sexy n smooth atm im using ice cream sandwich loader thanks

I suggest Go Launcher EX.
Wish I used it before I bought LauncherPro and ADW, but I guess the money's gone to a good cause.
Go Launcher is free. It's light. Its smooth. Its sexy.
A lot of themes on the market. Has its own Go Launcher Widgets that are pretty good.
Lots of customizations for the appearance.
Lots of beautiful transitions in both the homescreen and the app drawer. What stole my heart was the Sphere transition effect in the App Drawer when its in Horizontal Loop mode.
You could have folders support inside the app drawer and delete apps straight from it. There's a feature borrowed from iPhone where you can create folders and then drag apps and drop them onto those folders. Cool part is the app drawer transitions work inside the folders too.
Go give it a try, play with some settings, download a few themes, fall in love, have a happy romance, and enjoy the good life.
Since its free, no reason not to try right?
I think maybe I should work part-time as a App Promoter.

I'm using sfNewGlass for the icons in homescreen and app drawer.
Looks very beautiful with Vortex Galaxy Live Wallpaper. Hmm.. want to see a screenshot?

Home Panel. Its the panel that has the most widgets I guess... You can definitely see how the theme is.
App Drawer. Looks nice in the App Drawer too.
Fav Transition. Yup my personal favorite transition effect of Go Launcher is the Sphere.
Just incase you were wondering how come I have empty spots in my home panel...
its a circlelauncher
