unknown volume - dalvik cache wipe - T-Mobile LG G2x

every time I do the wipes b4 a push, as I enter advanced > wipe dalvik.. it pauses for a few seconds before it goes to the yes/no screen.. then at the bottom, it says: e:\unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]. I hit yes to wipe, and it says dalvik cache wiped.. So all is good. I'm wondering if this is normal behavior or something to be concerned about?

It happens to me all the time too. I shouldn't happen but as for now is normal behavior lol.
It does wipes the dalvik cache though

Thanks brother..

The error shows up simply because you have no /sd-ext ... meaning an ext partition on your sdcard. You probably don't need one with this phone either.
On phones with low internal storage (such as the Nexus One) this feature allows you to create a partition on your sdcard and utilize it as if it was part of the phone's internal/system storage. With the G2X we have 1+ GB solely for system use.

[Q] hanging at splash screen... no dice at all.... please help

Good evening folks.
I followed these directions TO THE LETTER
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
When it comes to the reboot after the the rom installs, and we wipe the data and reboot again.
once it reboots, it just hangs at the gtablet screen.
I did notice when i wiped the settings, it said something about apps2sd not being found. not sure if thats related.
would LOVE some help on this. just bought it due to a friends recomendation (sold my ipad) and want to get it running.
thanks
Can you reboot into Recovery (start up while holding down the Volume Up key)? If you can and you have ClockworkMod installed clear cache and wipe data. Restart. Let us know what happens.
If you can get it to recovery and wipe of data and cash still gives you no full boot reboot into recovery and repartition.
From the post you linked,
Step 7. Re-Partition your Tablet: In order to make sure the Android Market works correctly after installing any ROM, we must re-partition the device. Select the advanced option at the bottom of the ClockworkMod menu, then go to “partition SD card”, for the first option select 2048, and for the second option select 0. This erases data on your tablet. Be prepared.
did it
i have done the wiping etc a few times. im doing it again as we speak and ill post the results. BUT here is the exact error i get when i run wipe data
No apps2sd partition found. skipping format of sd-ext
not sure if that matters.
EDIT : and yes, i can still get in to clockworkmod np, and run all the commands. but im just not getting it to boot after following all instructions. still hanging at the splash screen (gtablet)
Try an SD repartition next (also in clockworkmod, under Advanced). 2048 and 0 for the settings and it will take about 10 minutes to run.
Also, this will wipe /sdcard and /data, so keep that in mind.
yeah, it will wipe the entire internal memory. but i have done that 2-3 times now, full wipe, redid the entire process again. no go.
i will give it a go again though. and yes the partitioning does take some time
EDIT : SUCCESS... i didnt go back and format again. all i did was re-run the zip install without reformatting, then wiped cache, then cleared the rest. now im in to the OS at least. now to see if market works
What rom are you trying to install?
The apps2sd message is normal BTW.
Edit: glad you got it working.

CM Recovery: wiping/formatting options

On CM Recovery 5.0.2.0. Trying to figure out definitively which wipes/formats to perform before new ROM/kernel... there are several options, some of which seem to be redundant.
Main Menu (these are the only two I've done in the past I think):
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Mounts and Storage Menu:
format /sdcard
format /system
format /cache
format /data
format /boot
format /wimax
Advanced Menu:
wipe Dalvik cache
Most instructions I've seen say to "wipe" system/data/cache/dalvik/boot 3x each. The 3x seems funny to me, but whatever, it doesn't really take much longer. So I'm guessing I want to do just about every option above, minus my SDcard obviously. What about the /wimax option though? I never have heard that one mentioned...
Thanks!

When installing a new custom rom & not just updating it to a newer version it's advisable to, 1: Advanced menu: wipe dalvik cache. 2: Mount & Storage menu: format system, cache, data & boot! You're riight about the minus sdcard wipe obviously, & usually in my experiance if you're just updating to a newer version of your existing custom rom, usually just wiping your dalvik cache & a reboot will surfice! No idea about the wimax part so don't bother, but I've never seen a dev instruct anyone to go through the process of wipng 3x???

[Q] ROM Fallout Evolution 5.0 - Fallout Tweaks problem

Hi,
I've just update from Fallout v.2.0 to 5.0, wiping chache + Dalvik.
No problem, everything's ok. But I can't see "Fallout Tweaks" menu, neither in configuration nor in quick configuration option.
I've flashed it two times, everithing's working, but I can't see the ROM option... What can I do? Wipe all?
Thank's for the answers!
For such a big update, a full wipe is always recommended.
I assume you know to tap on the operator name to see the quick settings?
A full wipe is probably the only solution.

Sure, I know to tap on operator name to qs...
OK, full wipe...
Thank's!
Sorry...
I'm going to do a full wipe. On device there is 4EXT Recovery. I've backuped everythings with Titanium on sd card.
Now which is the right voice? "Wipe data/factory reset"? --> But there's the full-deleting warning, including sd card...!
Otherwise there is "Format all partitions (except sdcard)"...
Which is the right choise, to flashing Fallout 5.00 Rom and restore my data later?
Thank's a lot...

Well. And then wipe cache, and wipe Dalvik cache?

Format all except sd card already wipes cache and Dalvik cache, so you don't have to do that separately.
Well, done. Everything is working... Thanks to everybody again.
Now I hope to have solved the worse problem: sometimes I don't receive a sms; I get notification and sound, but can't find any message. But it was sent from somebody!
And it's a random problem!
Hoping... :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Bootloop TF101

Hi Everyone,
For some reason, TWRP is not able to format /Data.
It keeps saying "failed to mount /data (Device or resource busy)".
This doesn't prevent me from updating the ROM to 4.4.2-21.
However, once updated it keeps on booting over-and-over.
Is there a way to - sort-of - a forced format of the internal flash.
Or at least the /data partition as it seems to be corrept.
Thanks - Will
Hi,
With twrp use the wipe menu for installing kk 4.4.2
Wipe cache-dalvik cache-data-system-internal storage (if you need a complete clean install), after install menu, flash the rom and the gapps, return to wipe menu, wipe cache and dalvik cache again.reboot.you`ll run on the new rom
(Ps : don't used mount sd and format menu).

Thanks for the (quick) response.
I'm coming from 4.4.2-19. However, on previous occasions I was able to upgrade without going through a clean install.
So I tried the same this time with 4.4.2-21. However, as it stands, this release tends to end up in an ever on-going boot sequence.
Even a clean install or going back to the previous version (4.4.2-19) doesn't work.
Compared to previous installs, the only difference I can see is an error stating that /data can not be wiped.
Any thoughts on this behavior?
Thanks - Will

Hi, which release of TWRP do you use ? in 2.6.3.0 and lower release, on wipe menu you have an advanced wipe menu, go on it select format and type data, this will format data partition

Tried formatting the data partition. It comes back with "failed" - no explanation.
Any other suggestion?

Cache Bug?

Clearing cache from storage settings doesn't work actually. Every time i clear the cache from there it shows that i got rid of it but in the background it increases the size of the "other" folder present inside the storage option under settings. it feels like the cache is getting transferred to that folder and not wiping off.
I also tried clearing cache from recovery after clearing it first from settings but the "other" folder size remained intact. I think clearing cache doesn't work. Also the size of the "other" keeps on increasing everytime i do this. It's kinda loophole.
Has anyone observed it?
Does anyone have a pixel phone that they can try this on with the a b partitioning? I'm curious to know if this happens across the board or if it is just a OnePlus 6
Yea I noticed that too, clearing the cache in recovery (TWRP in my case) doesn't clear the cache shown in storage, but it doesn't go to the other folder either.
Literally nothing happens.
Not a bug, a feature. The cache doesn't exist as a partition on this phone. Clearing it in recovery does nothing.

Yes I know there is no cache partition on this phone. This happens when you clear all app cache and it happens when you clear the cache in the recovery both
you do it in stock recovery
cant do it in twrp or OS
what i do is when installing full rom zip update, ill reboot recovery clear cache then reboot fastboot install twrp and flash magisk and kernel
